Supreme Court: States Can Require the Burial, Cremation of Aborted Babies
The U.S. Supreme Court Tuesday ruled that states can require the remains of aborted unborn babies to be buried or cremated, upholding part of a 2016 Indiana law that was signed by then-Gov. Mike Pence.
Meanwhile, the Supreme Court declined to take up a case involving another part of the law banning abortions based on race, sex or disability.
The U.S. Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals had ruled both parts of the law were unconstitutional.
But the Supreme Court, in an unsigned opinion, reversed the appeals court’s ruling on fetal remains while letting standing the other portion of the law. The court said it was expressing no view on the merits of such abortion bans and left the door open for taking up a similar case later.
The Supreme Court’s ruling came without hearing oral arguments.
“This Court has already acknowledged that a State has a ‘legitimate interest in proper disposal of fetal remains,’” the court ruled, pointing to a 1983 decision, Akron v. Akron Center for Reproductive Health, Inc. “… The Seventh Circuit clearly erred in failing to recognize that interest as a permissible basis for Indiana’s disposition law.”
The law, HB 1337, requires aborted babies be “interred or cremated.”
“An abortion clinic or health care facility having possession of an aborted fetus shall provide for the final disposition of the…

Texas Church to Host ‘Drag Queen Story Hour’ after City Library Cancels Event
City officials in Leander, Texas found themselves mired in controversy after the city’s library announced that it would host a “Drag Queen Story Hour” event. Then, a church in the community announced they would rent a room at the library and host the event themselves.
Open Cathedral, a relatively new church which meets in a local elementary school, will host the event on June 15thbecause “We must never stop striving for safe spaces for our kids to be unique and loved no matter what.” The church’s pastor, an ordained minister in the United Church of Christ, said he founded the church because he “was tired of church sucking.” On its website, the church claims to be “open and affirming,” saying that they want “to be ever more open to and affirming of all people by embracing similarities and embracing differences in age, race, ethnicity, income level, ability, sexual orientation and gender expression.”
The city announced the library would not be hosting the event late last week. Mayor Troy Hill said, “Our library, which is run by a company contracted by the City, chose to wade into social issues water without approval from City Staff. Since then it has led to predictable outrage and divineness that is the reason to avoid these issues. I would be curious if those favoring ‘inclusiveness’ would feel the same had it been storytelling time…

Rep. Ilhan Omar Says Pro-Lifers Are Hypocrites Who Do Not Truly Care about Children
Rep. Ilhan Omar told the House Thursday that pro-life activists do not care about children’s lives.
According to Life Site News, the democratic representative from Minnesota was responding to Alabama’s new abortion ban, which makes abortion illegal after six weeks, and another abortion ban in Georgia.
“Religious fundamentalists are currently trying to manipulate state laws in order to impose their beliefs on an entire society, all with complete disregard for voices and the rights of American women,” she said. “The recent efforts like those in Alabama, in Georgia, are only the latest in a long history of efforts to, to punish us when we don’t conform to their attempts to control us.”
Omar added that if the “religious right” cared about children, they would also be concerned about “the children that are being detained and those that are dying in camps across our borders. Or the children who are languishing in hunger and facing homelessness.”
“I am frustrated every single time I hear people speaking about their faith, and pushing that onto other people, because we know, those so-called religious politicians, when it comes to their life, their choices, they want to talk about freedom,” Omar declared. “But when it comes to other people’s lives and other people’s choices, they want to talk about religion.”

Israel Strikes Back at Syria after Syrians Allegedly Attacked an Israeli Combat Plane
A Syrian soldier was killed and another injured Monday after an attack on a military post in Syria.
According to the Associated Press, Israel said it had fired into Syria in response to attacks from Syria on an Israeli combat plane.
Syrian state TV said the Israeli attack was on a military outpost near Khan Arnabeh, a town on the edge of Golan Heights. Israel said earlier Monday a Syrian anti-aircraft firing system attacked an Israeli plane “as it was carrying out a routine flight in Israel.
“In response, we targeted the Syrian launcher that was responsible for firing it,” a military official said, adding that the Israeli military “sees any threat against its aircraft with great severity and takes measures to defend them.”
Israel’s Prime Minister released a statement, saying the Syrian army “tried to harm an Israeli plan” and “didn’t succeed.”
“Our policy is clear – we are not prepared to tolerate any aggression against us, we will retaliate against it forcefully and decisively,” the statement said.
In recent years, Israel has taken responsibility for “hundreds of strikes,” according to Reuters.
In Syria’s Idlib province, a Syrian rebel stronghold, about a dozen civilians have been killed in fighting over the past two days.
According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, some 78 air raids and 70 barrel…

Alabama Sets Record Adoptions of Foster Children
A record number of Alabama families adopted children from the foster care system during the 2018 fiscal year. Last week, governor Kay Ivey announced that 710 children were adopted out of the foster care system. This broke the previous record of 676 back in 2009 and was up from 509 in fiscal year 2017 and 502 in fiscal year 2016.
The announcement came just weeks after Governor Ivey signed a near-total ban on abortion, which many are calling the most restrictive abortion law in the country. The new law makes performing an abortion a felony and is punishable by up to 99 years in prison. The most controversial aspect of the law is that it does not contain exceptions for rape and incest, causing even televangelist Pat Robertson to say the law was “extreme,” CBN News reports.
Ivey made the announcement at the State Capitol and then posed for photos with children and their adoptive families. She said the record number of adoptions “sends a strong, wonderful message to all the foster care children in our state.” Many pundits have also noted that critics are wrong when they say pro-life advocates stop caring about life once it is outside the womb.
Almost 6,400 children are currently in foster care in Alabama, but close to 70 percent of those will return to their biological families. Department of Human Resources Commissioner Nancy Buckner said that children who do not return to their…

“It Was a ‘Lost to Saved’ Thing”: Hundreds of Former LGBT Men, Women Gather to Share How Jesus Changed Their Lives
A number of formerly gay and transgender individuals have gathered in the nation’s capital for the second annual “Freedom March,” celebrating the shedding of their former identities and testifying to the newfound freedom they have found in Christ.
Around 200 previously fully-fledged members of the LGBT community came together on the grounds of the Washington Monument over the weekend to tell of the grace and healing they have found through having a relationship with Jesus.
“Look at this! This is Amazing! They say we don’t exist!” declared the march’s co-founder, M.J. Nixon, according to Life Site News. The event has tripled in size since its inception last year, with many more testifying of the transformative power of the Holy Spirit in their lives.
“It was the power of the Holy Spirit and the grace of Jesus Christ that fell on all of us,” said former trans woman Jeffrey McCall.
Another one of the attendees, Angel Colon, was a survivor of the Pulse Nightclub Shooting in Orlando, Florida. Some 49 people were shot dead when a gunman opened fire in the gay nightclub back in June 2016. Colon recounted his remarkable conversion and journey with Jesus, which began when he was lying on the floor dying from a gunshot wound sustained during the mass shooting.
“As I lay on the ground shot multiple times —…

Chick-fil-A Airport Bans Prompt FAA Religious Discrimination Investigation
The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating airports in San Antonio and Buffalo for religious discrimination after Chick-fil-A restaurants were banned from their facilities.
“The FAA notes that federal requirements prohibit airport operators from excluding persons on the basis of religious creed from participating in airport activities that receive or benefit from FAA grant funding,” said a statement provided to Fox News.
First Liberty, a Texas-based law firm, said it filed a complaint with Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao in March after the San Antonio City Council voted to exclude the national food chain from the San Antonio International Airport. The Texas legislature also took swift action in response to the council vote, passing the so-called “Save Chick-fil-A” bill, which protects businesses from government action for exercising their religious rights. Gov. Greg Abbott is expected to sign the measure into law.
Keisha Russell, associate counsel for First Liberty, called San Antonio’s action “blatant, illegal religious discrimination against Chick-fil-A.”
“American business owners should not have to suffer because they want to operate their businesses in accordance with their religious beliefs,” she said. “Few things are more un-American than government hostility against religion.”
During its March 21 meeting over the…
