Democrat John Rogers Apologizes for Saying ‘Retarded’ Babies Should Be Aborted, but Maintains Stance on ‘Unwanted’ Babies

State Representative John Rogers apologized earlier this week for his comment that “retarded” babies should be aborted.

Late in April, Alabama Democrat John Rogers voiced his support for abortion during a House debate on a pro-life bill, stirring up controversy with his appeal. “Some kids are unwanted, so you kill them now or you kill them later,” he said. “You bring them in the world unwanted, unloved, you send them to the electric chair.”

Rogers continued his remarks: “Some parents can’t handle a child with problems. It could be retarded. It might have no arms and no legs.”

Although he initially defended his statements, according to Yellowhammer News the representative regretted his choice of words on Talk 99.5’s Matt & Aunie Show.

“The r-word is a word that’s old and dates way back to the 1940s. It’s not mentally challenged. It’s a different [meaning] to it now, but I did use it. … I was wrong about the retarded thing,” Rogers said. “I’m shying away from the fact that I used the word retarded.”

Rogers also commented on two mentally challenged friends whom he “loves to death.”

“I support special needs children, and they love me unconditionally. I have relatives and friends with special-needs kids, so [using that word] was wrong. Charge it to my head, not my…

Chick-fil-A to Become 3rd Largest Restaurant Chain, Despite Being Closed on Sundays

Chick-fil-A to Become 3rd Largest Restaurant Chain, Despite Being Closed on Sundays

Chick-fil-A, the Christian-owned company that’s often targeted by the Left, will soon become the third-largest restaurant chain in the United States.

CNBC reported May 8 that the chain is on pace to become the third-largest restaurant in sales this year, passing Subway and trailing only McDonald’s and Starbucks.

“Chick-fil-A stands out largely because it has avoided any major menu renovations, unlike competitors McDonald’s and Burger King [by] sticking to a relatively simple menu,” CNBC’s Sara Eisen reported

The company, she added, has instead focused “on its signature chicken sandwiches.”

Chick-fil-A will reach No. 3 “despite all the controversy and despite the fact that it’s closed on Sundays,” she said.

Chick-fil-A founder Truett Cathy decided to close on Sundays in 1946 when he opened the first restaurant in Hapeville, Ga., according to the Chick-fil-A website.

“Having worked seven days a week in restaurants open 24 hours, Truett saw the importance of closing on Sundays so that he and his employees could set aside one day to rest and worship if they choose – a practice we uphold today,” the website says.

Jodee Morgan, senior director of culture and talent operations for Chick-fil-A, said in a 2017 interview that the policy has benefited the company.

“Despite being open only six out of seven days a…

Georgia Politicians Refuse to Hire Candidate Because They Are Black, Say Interracial Marriage Is Unbiblical

Georgia Politicians Refuse to Hire Candidate Because They Are Black, Say Interracial Marriage Is Unbiblical

Two Hoschton, Georgia politicians were asked to resign on Monday after making racist comments about a black job candidate.

According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution – who published an investigative report on the Mayor on Monday – Hoschton Mayor Theresa Kenerly denied someone a city administrator job because they were black.

According to Relevant Magazine, Kenerly told a councilmember that she excluded the qualified candidate from consideration “because he is black, and the city isn’t ready for this.”

Hoschton is a small town made up of 2,000 people, most of whom are white.

While being interviewed about the Kenerly controversy, Hoschton Councilman Jim Cleveland also made racists comments and credited his Christian faith for his beliefs.

Cleveland, first defended the mayor saying, “I understood where she was coming from… I understand Theresa saying that, simply because we’re not Atlanta. Things are different here than they are 50 miles down the road,” the Atlantic Journal-Constitution reports.

Reportedly he added, “I don’t know how they [the majority white constituents] would take it if we selected a black administrator. She might have been right.”

Then, Cleveland reportedly commented on interracial marriage saying it “makes my blood boil.”

He told reporters “I’m a Christian and my…

Christian debt charity says 1 in 4 people in debt were born into money struggles

A report by Christians Against Poverty (CAP), called Changing Perceptions, looked at the debt charity’s clients’ experiences and showed how parents’ financial circumstances affects their childrens’ future relationship with money.

Just over a quarter (27 per cent) of CAP’s clients grew up in a household affected by debt and 58 per cent are over 40 years old.

The annual report says money worries are an intergenerational anxiety: “The impact debt has on these children is far reaching, from taking a toll on their emotional wellbeing, to parents being unable to provide adequate food or clothing and feeling that their debt was affecting their children’s future life chances. Where parents are struggling to provide for their children, feelings of guilt and shame are particularly acute. Seven in ten (69%) CAP clients with children said being in debt made them feel like a bad parent.”

Rachel Gregory, CAP’s social policy manager, told Premier Christian Radio’s News Hour: “Anecdotally, we’d heard clients telling us about this experience. For example, one lady shared with me once how her earliest memory was hiding behind the sofa from the enforcement agents knocking at the door. So, we definitely knew that there was a cycle here but actually to see the figures around the extent and how often that happens I think is surprising.”

She added that about 80 per cent of those…

New Vatican Law Requires Priests, Nuns to Report Sex Abuse and Cover-Ups

New Vatican Law Requires Priests, Nuns to Report Sex Abuse and Cover-Ups

All Catholic priests and nuns worldwide are now required to report clergy sexual abuse and cover-up by their superiors as part of a sweeping new law implemented Thursday by Pope Francis. The law also includes whistle-blower protections for reporters.

Additionally, the law outlines procedures for launching preliminary investigations when the accused is a bishop, cardinal or religious superior, and every diocese around the globe has been ordered to develop a system to process confidential claims.

“We have said for years that priests must conform to certain strict rules, so why shouldn’t bishops and others in the hierarchy do the same?” Cardinal Marc Ouellet, head of the Vatican office for bishops, said. “It’s not just a law, but a profound responsibility.”

The new rules come as the Roman Catholic Church deals with global sex abuse scandals in which the Catholic hierarchy has come under fire for failing to protect members and, in some instances, nuns.

Essentially, the law makes the world’s 415,000 Catholic priests and 660,000 religious sisters mandated reporters within the church, although they are not required to report abuses to law enforcement. The church has been reticent to require criminal reporting, citing fears it would endanger the church in places where Catholics are a persecuted minority. While criminal reporting is not required, clergy must obey civil…

UK churches rethink fire safety after Notre Dame.

Addressing the House of Commons on Thursday, he Church of England’s representative in parliament, Caroline Spelman, stressed the importance of fire safety following the blaze at Notre Dame Cathedral last month.

The Christian and Conservative MP for Meriden highlighted the importance of fire safety for historic buildings, saying they are particularly vulnerable if necessary building works are overlooked.

She said: “Since the Notre Dame fire, the Cathedral and Church Buildings Division has worked with the Cathedral Architects Association to ensure its records are up to date and will continue to work closely on this issue and are considering a national conference on the matter.”

It has been reported that the most likely cause of the Notre Dame fire was an electrical fault which resulted in damage to the building’s roof and spire.

French Prime Minister Emmanuel Macron has made promises to restore the Paris landmark within the next five years.

House Judiciary Committee Votes to Hold Attorney General William Barr in Contempt of Congress

House Judiciary Committee Votes to Hold Attorney General William Barr in Contempt of Congress

The House Judiciary Committee voted Wednesday to hold Attorney General William Barr in contempt of Congress.

Previously, the committee had threatened to hold Barr in contempt if he did not release an unredacted copy of the report on possible collusion between Russia and the U.S. during the 2016 election.

Barr is facing a contempt citation after refusing to release special counsel Robert Mueller’s full report by Monday. Barr has offered a less redacted version but has also said he cannot release the full report.

“As we have repeatedly explained, the attorney general could not comply with your subpoena in its current form without violating the law, court rules and court orders, and without threatening the independence of the Department of Justice’s prosecutorial functions,” Assistant Attorney General Stephen Boyd wrote in a letter.

“Accordingly, this is to advise you that the president has asserted executive privilege over the entirety of the subpoenaed materials.”

The judiciary committee voted 24-16 along party lines to refer a contempt citation to the full House for a vote. According to the BBC, no date has been set for that vote.

“The Attorney General’s failure to comply with our subpoena, after extensive accommodation efforts, leaves us no choice but to initiate contempt proceedings in order to enforce the subpoena and…

UK churches urge Christians to ‘Think, Pray and Vote’ ahead of the EU elections

The Joint Public Issues Team (JPIT) which represents the Baptist Union of Great Britain, the Church of Scotland, the Methodist Church and the United Reformed Church, has issued a briefing to encourage Christians to engage with the issues dividing the country and pray for change.

The organisation says Christians have a responsibility to make their voices heard in times of difficulty.

JPIT’s spokesman Paul Morrsion told Premier: “If Christians aren’t part of the debate and aren’t voting, then that voice won’t be heard.

“And we will leave the playing field for those who don’t share Christian values. And, at this point in time of great change in our nation, it’s really important that Christian values are seen and they are heard”

With the elections taking place in two weeks’ time, the briefing gives information on the issues to be considered and how people can be praying into the political situation.

Mr Morrison stated: “It’s not the place of churches to tell people who to vote for. It’s the place of churches to talk about what Christian values are and how they might bring about justice in this nation.”

As a country that is currently divided on many issues, JPIT hopes to help inform readers and inspire a greater trust in God.

Paul Morrison said: “What we’re seeing in our nation at this time is huge changes that are much greater than the European election votes, and I…

CNN Democrat Claims ‘That Is Not a Human Being’ Inside a Pregnant Woman

CNN Democrat Claims ‘That Is Not a Human Being’ Inside a Pregnant Woman

A Democrat and CNN political analyst sparked pushback on social media this week when she claimed the unborn baby growing inside a pregnant woman’s body is not a human being.

Christine Quinn made the comments during a debate over state abortion restrictions with former U.S. Sen. Rick Santorum and host Chris Cuomo. Quinn was the first female speaker of the New York City Council.

“When a woman gets pregnant, that is not a human being inside of her. It’s part of her body,” Quinn said, adding that legalized abortion “is about a woman having full agency and control of her body and making decisions about her body and what is part of her body with medical professionals. Those are the facts and that is the law of the land.”

Santorum challenged her logic. By her worldview, he said, the baby is considered “chattel.”

“They can do whatever they want. They can torture the baby,” Santorum said.

Earlier, Santorum had asked Quinn and Cuomo, who is pro-choice, “A baby dies in an abortion — do you realize that? Are you ignoring that fact? That’s a reality.”

“It is biologically a human life?” Santorum asked.

“No,” Quinn answered.

Surprised by her answer, Santorum responded, “It’s in every biological textbook in the world — at conception that is a human life. … You guys talk about being the party of science. This is so…

Bishop of Kensington praises govt plan to pay for cladding after Grenfell

The issue was looked at following the Grenfell Tower fire in June 2017 in which 72 people died, partly due to to the poor materials used in the building.

Bishop of Kensington, Rt Rev Graham Tomlin, has been a vocal campaigner for the residents of Grenfell.

He is also the chair of a new commission looking into the housing crisis and told Premier: “I’m very pleased the government’s acted in the way that it has because the pressures been growing a bit on the government to act on this particular issue.

“Because it’s been a real injustice that leaseholders have been asked to foot the bill to remove the cladding from a lot of the buildings around the country that still have cladding.

“I think the government stepping in and saying ‘we will foot at least part of the bill’ is just the right thing to do.”

The government said the action was being taken because ‘private building owners failed to take action and tried to offload costs onto leaseholders’.

Prime Minister Theresa May said: “It is of paramount importance that everybody is able to feel and be safe in their homes.

“That’s why we asked building owners in the private sector to take action and make sure appropriate safety measures were in place.

“And we’ve seen a number of private building owners doing the right thing and taking responsibility, but unfortunately too many are continuing to pass on the costs of removal…
