Wisconsin Governor Says He Will Veto Bill Banning Infanticide

Wisconsin Governor Says He Will Veto Bill Banning Infanticide

Wisconsin’s Democratic governor says he will veto a bill that would require medical care for babies who survive failed abortions.

The bill, AB 179, already passed the Republican-controlled Assembly and House. It would require abortion doctors to “exercise the same degree of professional skill, care, and diligence to preserve the life and health” of a baby who survives an abortion as would be given to “any other child born alive at the same gestational age,” according to the bill’s text. It also would require the baby to be “transported and admitted to a hospital.” The bill’s supporters say it simply would ban infanticide.

The doctor, not the woman, would be charged with a crime.

But Wisconsin Democratic Gov. Tony Evers says he will veto it.

“I think those protections already exist,” Evers said Monday, according to the Journal Sentinel newspaper. “We have all sorts of issues to deal with in the state of Wisconsin and to pass a bill that is redundant seems to be not a productive use of time. And clearly I ran on the belief – and I still believe – that women should be able to make choices about their health care. But this deals with a specific issue that’s already been resolved.”

North Carolina Democratic Gov. Roy Cooper vetoed a similar bill last week.

Wisconsin Assembly Majority Leader Jim Steineke said the bill is…

Church Closed in Egypt after Muslim Mob Frightens Children in Sunday School

Church Closed in Egypt after Muslim Mob Frightens Children in Sunday School

CAIROEgypt, April 23, 2019 (Morning Star News) – A Coptic church in Upper Egypt is closed after a throng of angry Muslims attacked it this month, beating a priest and another Copt as more than 200 fearful children who had gathered for Bible lessons looked on, according to advocacy groups.

One of the injured Copts, Asaad Bakheet Rezek, told Coptic TV (CTV) that a Muslim about 17 years old beat one of the priests with a club as security forces led him from the Anba Karas Church building in Naga al-Ghafir, Sohag Governorate in southern Egypt.

The priest, identified as Father Basilious, sustained a minor head injury as security forces escorted him and another priest into an armored vehicle after the chanting mob tried to enter the building, Rezek said, adding that the children were terrified by the club- and knife-wielding crowds as they shouted, cursed and pelted the building with rocks.

The village mayor had gone to the church premises the previous day, angry at construction underway for a fourth floor to a building annex, according to advocacy groups Coptic Solidarity and the Egyptian Initiative for Personal Rights (EIPR).

The mayor accused the Christians of “treason” for the add-on. He started shouting to neighbors to take action against the church and left, later submitting a notice at the city council complaining about the construction, according to…

Texas School Survey Tells Students ‘Gender Is How a Person Feels’

Texas School Survey Tells Students ‘Gender Is How a Person Feels’

A recent survey given to all Austin public school students—as young as the third grade – told children, “Sex is what a person is born (sic). Gender is how a person feels.” The survey went on to ask pupils to select whether they feel they are a “girl/woman,” “boy/man,” or “identify in some other way.” The test also provided a blank box where students were asked to “describe how you identify.”

The Student Climate Survey was obtained by The Federalist through an open records request. The Austin Independent School District has been administering the survey to grades 3-11 since the 2003-04 school year. According to The Federalist, similar surveys are conducted at school districts across the country as part of the 2015 Every Student Succeeds Act, the K-12 federal law that updated No Child Left Behind. One of the components of ESSA allows states to show “accountability” to the federal government on non-objective criteria such as children’s “socioemotional learning” (SEL). In many instances, parents are not even aware their students are taking the surveys because of waivers they sign at the start of the school year.

Pediatrician and education researcher Karen Effrem told The Federalist such surveys can be harmful to the children.

“Whether it’s comprehensive sex education or a survey, if you’re bringing stuff like that [sexuality] up, you…

New Young People’s Laureate is inspired by her faith

It’s the latest recognition for Theresa Lola, a 24-year-old British-Nigerian writer who won the Brunel International African Poetry Prize for her debut collection of poems ‘In Search of Equilibrium’.

Other honours include being invited to read her work at the unveiling of the statue of leading suffragette Millicent Fawcett at Parliament Square – alongside London’s Mayor Sadiq Khan and the Prime Minister Theresa May.

She told Premier that news of her appointment as Young People’s Poet Laureate was an equally exciting moment.

“I was incredibly shocked but really delighted. I got the call and I couldn’t stop screaming.

“I couldn’t believe that it was real. It was something that I’d prayed for and I felt certain that I should apply for it.”

Theresa’s mother is a church pastor but the writer says her own faith has shaped her poetry.

“My Christian faith informs my work in many ways. That’s the perspective from which I view life. and it’s the lens through which I write.

“It also sometimes informs the form in which I write because the Bible is poetic. So I try to take a lot of Biblical forms as well.”

As Youth Poet Laureate, Theresa will work with young people in poetry workshops in schools and performances for youth groups. She’ll also be commissioned to write poems for key events.

“The main aim of the role is to amplify and elevate the voices of young people in…

Death Toll in Sri Lankan Easter Attacks Rises to 321 – Urban Christian News

Investigators at the scene of a suicide bombing at St. Sebastian Church in Negombo, Sri Lanka.

Sri Lanka’s prime minister is warning there are more explosives and militants “out there” after the Easter suicide bombings that killed over 320 people.

Ranil Wickremesinghe made the comment at a news conference. The country remains on high alert, with several bomb scares over the past days.

Wickremesinghe said some officials will likely lose their jobs over intelligence lapses surrounding the attack. He acknowledged there was a prior warning, and said India’s embassy was eyed as a possible target.

The toll from the coordinated bombings at churches, luxury hotels and other sites now stands at 321 dead and 500 wounded. He said a planned attack at a fourth hotel failed and that the leader of a local militant group blamed for the assault may have led the attacks and been killed.

Sri Lanka’s minister of defence said the bombings were “carried out in retaliation” for attacks on mosques in Christchurch on March 15. The prime minister’s office here in New Zealand said it hasn’t “seen any intelligence upon which such an assessment might be based.”

Meanwhile, the Islamic State group is claiming responsibility for the attacks, via its news agency. It later released a photo of the man the Sri Lanka government has identified as the leader of the Easter attacks, Mohammed Zahran, also known as Zahran Hashmi.

But the group, which has lost all the territory it once held in Iraq and Syria, has made a series of unsupported claims of responsibility.

As a state of emergency took…

Terrorist response training on offer for UK churches

Deputy Assistant Commissioner Dean Haydon from the Metropolitan Police said: “a number of churches were targeted during the attacks but we stand together with communities of all faiths, and we will continue to work with our communities and our partners to counter the threat no matter where it comes from.”

The police are advising UK churches, cathedrals and other places of worship to carry out risk assessments and develop emergency plans.

The Government and the police have developed an online training package called ‘ACT (Action Counters Terrorism) Awareness eLearning‘ which builds on the anti-terrorism slogan “Run. Hide. Tell.”

Police say say the online course offers practical advice for churches and identifies some simple steps which could help keep congregations safe.

Dean Haydon, said the authorities rely on a combination of intelligence alongside information from the public to protect people.

“Together with our intelligence partners we continually monitor the varied threats we face, including to and around places of worship and specific communities across the country, to ensure we have the most appropriate protective security measures in place to keep people safe.

“We stand together with Sri Lankan communities and all those who have been affected and left shocked and horrified by these attacks in Sri Lanka.”

The police are keen for people to any suspicious…

Topic: Children of The Covenant

Ye are the children of the prophets, and of the covenant which God made with our fathers, saying unto Abraham, And in thy seed shall all the kindreds of the earth be blessed (Acts 3:25).

There’re Christians who say they have a covenant with God. They teach that since God made a covenant with Abraham, and we’re Abraham’s seed, we’re therefore automatically in covenant with God. But no; the Christian isn’t in covenant with God. You need to know who the Christian is; he’s one with Christ; he’s an associate of the God-kind. Abraham had a covenant with God, but we’re not in that covenant. Who are we? We’re children of the covenant.

We’re heirs of God and joint-heirs with Christ. Galatians 3:26-29 says, “For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus. For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ. There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus. And if ye be Christ’s, then are ye Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.”

In a marriage relationship, for example, the couple sign a nuptial agreement and come into a covenant. That covenant, however, doesn’t involve their children. The children from that marriage would be the products or fruits of the covenant. Read our opening verse again, it’s clear: we’re children of the covenant that God made with Abraham and the patriarchs.

Many have written books on our covenant with God, but the danger of this misleading belief is that it places the Christian in a position below his calling and birthright. Our relationship with God is one of father and his children. Blessed thought! How wonderful to know that we’re heirs of God and joint-heirs with Christ. We’re children of the covenant! We own the world and we walk in divine excellence. Hallelujah!

CONFESSION
All things are mine; I have everything that I require for life and godliness, because I’m an heir of God, and a joint-heir with Christ. I’m rich in all things because God has caused His grace to abound towards me to be superabundantly supplied, exceedingly fruitful and productive in every good work. Hallelujah!

‘Our Leaders Believe Christians Are the Problem’: Columnists Criticize Leaders for Refusing to Say Sri Lankan ‘Christians’ were attacked

‘Our Leaders Believe Christians Are the Problem’: Columnists Criticize Leaders for Refusing to Say Sri Lankan ‘Christians’ were attacked

Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton are facing criticism after calling Christians who were killed on Easter Sunday in Sri Lanka “Easter worshippers” on their Twitter accounts.

“The attacks on tourists and Easter worshippers in Sri Lanka are an attack on humanity. On a day devoted to love, redemption, and renewal, we pray for the victims and stand with the people of Sri Lanka,” Obama tweeted.

Clinton wrote, “On this holy weekend for many faiths, we must stand united against hatred and violence. I’m praying for everyone affected by today’s horrific attacks on Easter worshippers and travelers in Sri Lanka.”

Columnists are striking back, saying the chosen language is “not just strange and unnatural. It’s a political calculation.”

“It was an attack on Christians. It was…
