DCLM Daily Manna 18 April 2019 – Tribulation Before Triumph

Topic: Tribulation Before Triumph [DCLM Daily Manna 18 April 2019 Daily Devotional by Pastor William Folorunso Kumuyi]

Text: Acts 14:19-28 (KJV)

Key Verse: “And when they had preached the gospel to that city, and had taught many, they returned again to Lystra, and to Iconium, and Antioch, confirming the souls of the disciples, and exhorting them to continue in the faith, and that we must through much tribulation enter into the kingdom of God” (Acts 14:21,22).

MESSAGE:

A recruiting sergeant often slips a shilling into the hand of some ignorant youths, and tells them that military service is a fine thing, that he has nothing to do but walk about in his flaming colours, do parades, march pass and be involved in flamboyant ceremonies – that he will have no hard service; in fact, that he has nothing to do but to be a soldier, and go straight on to glory. When such youths eventually enlist in the army, they discover that life as a soldier is far from a bed of roses; that there are inconvenient exercises, hard battle to be fought and that there is a possibility of dying in service.

Paul the apostle, in the text, did not attempt to describe discipleship to the new converts by highlighting only the pleasantness and joy in Christ while shielding away the hard truths of tribulation and sorrow which often interjects the joy of the believer. Paul himself demonstrated remarkable courage by venturing into the very places where he had been persecuted and stoned. In the face of danger, he returned to encourage and console the converts that, “they must through much tribulation enter into the kingdom of God”.

There are times when ministers should not count their own lives dear unto them when they find themselves in the midst of danger; they must confide only in the protecting care of their God and Saviour.

As believer, though all things are apparently against you now, roll off your griefs, there is a saving clause. Somehow He will deliver you, and somewhere He will provide for you. And why not let the glory that shall be revealed after our tribulation be a source of consolation to you?

Thought For The Day: When God ordains, He sustains.

Topic: Make His Dream Your Dream

The Lord is…not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance (2 Peter 3:9).

From the Scriptures, we clearly observe God’s greatest passion, which is to have all men receive eternal life and come into fellowship with Him. That’s the reason Jesus came to this world; He came to make men sons of God. Therefore, it’s important that your priorities are in sync with the purpose for which Jesus came. Keep promoting the cause of the Gospel; the cause for which Jesus lived, died, and resurrected.

Heaven recognises and celebrates those who have made soul winning a priority; those who have made God’s dream their dream. Nothing we do on earth has meaning or value in heaven except that which is connected to the cause of the Gospel; the salvation of lost souls. You’re responsible both for leading people to Christ, and also for ensuring they’re established in the Church as soul winners themselves.

There’re those God has placed on your path for you to help build their faith, teach them to pray, and help them discover and live in their inheritance in Christ; it’s part of your responsibility in the Gospel of Christ. You were saved to save others; you’re built to build others. You’ve been given the ministry of reconciliation: “To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation” (2 Corinthians 5:19).

Imagine how many more people would be reached if we all took up the responsibility of soul winning to our best and fullest potentials! Take this seriously. Be amongst those strengthening other saints to do the work of the ministry. Help build the faith of others to become more effective in doing God’s work. Don’t live for a transient cause that has no eternal value. Put God’s work first in your life; make His dream your dream, and you’ll experience eternal joy and fulfilment.

CONFESSION
Blessed Saviour, my life is for your glory, and I live for the cause of the Gospel, passionately seeking the expansion of your Kingdom, and the establishment of your righteousness in the hearts of men. I’m amongst those strengthening others for the work of the ministry, building the faith of others to become more effective in doing God’s work. Therefore, I experience eternal joy and fulfilment. Hallelujah!

Topic: Stay Up To Date [Open Heavens for Teens 18 April 2019]

Memorise: “In the first year of his reign I Daniel understood by books the number of the years, whereof the word of the LORD came to Jeremiah the prophet, that he would accomplish seventy years in the desolations of Jerusalem.” – Daniel 9:2

Read: Daniel 9:2-4

  1. In the first year of his reign I Daniel understood by books the number of the years, whereof the word of the LORD came to Jeremiah the prophet, that he would accomplish seventy years in the desolations of Jerusalem.
  2. And I set my face unto the Lord God, to seek by prayer and supplications, with fasting, and sackcloth, and ashes:
  3. And I prayed unto the LORD my God, and made my confession, and said, O Lord, the great and dreadful God, keeping the covenant and mercy to them that love him, and to them that keep his commandments;

Bible In One Year: 1 Samuel 25-26, Luke 16:19-31

MESSAGE:

Most teenagers know nothing of what is going on around them. They just feel that news is meant for adults. You are supposed to be the future of your nation, you are supposed to bring change to the world, but how will you do that if you do not even know what is happening? Rather than focusing on entertainment news alone, you should also make sure to stay up to date on current events. Thank God Daniel stayed up to date as seen in our memory verse, if not, Israel would have continued serving a punishment that was already over.

Staying current helps you understand the world around you , which further helps you to understand what it takes to survive and thrive in the real world. Look around you, many young people are doing great things now. They are already involved with making news, and their survival in the world depends on how updated they are with happenings around. Do you want to be the president of your country in the future? You need to understand the policies that presidents are putting out now and their consequences. The news is not boring, it is a tool for greatness.

Prayer Point:

Father, I want to impact my world positively, please teach me to do all it takes to make that happen.

Hymn 11:

  1. Stand up! Stand up for Jesus,
    Ye soldiers of the Cross!
    Lift high His royal banner,
    It must not suffer loss.
    From victory unto victory
    His army shall He lead,
    Till every foe is vanquished,
    And Christ is Lord indeed.
  2. Stand up, stand up for Jesus,
    The solemn watchword hear;
    If while ye sleep he suffers,
    Away with shame and fear.
    Where’re yeah meet with evil,
    Within you or without,
    Charge for the God of battles,
    And put the foe to rout.
  3. Stand up! Stand up for Jesus!
    Stand in His strength alone;
    The arm of flesh will fail you,
    Ye dare not trust your own.
    Put on the gospel armour,
    And watching unto prayer;
    Where duty calls, or danger,
    Be never wanting there.
  4. Stand up! Stand up for Jesus!
    The strife will not be long;
    This day the noise of battle,
    The next the victor’s song.
    To him that overcometh
    A crown of life shall be;
    He with the King of glory
    Shall reign eternally.

Topic: Grace in Stages (Open Heaven 18 April 2019)

Memorise: “But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen.”- 2 Peter 3:18

Read: 2 Corinthians 9:8-14 (KJV)

8 And God is able to make all grace abound toward you; that ye, always having all sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work:

9 (As it is written, He hath dispersed abroad; he hath given to the poor: his righteousness remaineth for ever.

10 Now he that ministereth seed to the sower both minister bread for your food, and multiply your seed sown, and increase the fruits of your righteousness;)

11 Being enriched in every thing to all bountifulness, which causeth through us thanksgiving to God.

12 For the administration of this service not only supplieth the want of the saints, but is abundant also by many thanksgivings unto God;

13 Whiles by the experiment of this ministration they glorify God for your professed subjection unto the gospel of Christ, and for your liberal distribution unto them, and unto all men;

14 And by their prayer for you, which long after you for the exceeding grace of God in you.

Bible in One Year: Genesis 17-18, Jeremiah 20:7-18

Open Heaven 18 April 2019 Thursday MESSAGE:

Growth and progressive multiplication has been central to God’s purpose and agenda for mankind from the beginning of creation. Through His declarations in Genesis 1:22&28, God coded growth and increase into the fabric of everything He created at the elemental level, such that the propagation and future development of all created things occurs naturally through the process of growth and progressive multiplication. As a vital ingredient necessary for actualizing God’s purpose and agenda in man’s life, God’s grace also has the capacity to grow and multiply. God’s grace is His unmerited favour made known through Jesus Christ, and it is expressed in the redemption and full forgiveness of sinners through faith in Him (Titus 2:11-12). At its basic stage, God’s grace offers to all human beings forgiveness, redemption from sin and adoption into God’s family. After enjoying the benefits of this basic stage of grace, God expects every converted person to grow in grace from one level of glory to another. The spiritual development of believers is a growth of grace that can be likened to the growth of infants into adults. Just as every father wants his baby to grow into the full stature of a man or woman, so does our heavenly Father want us to grow into the full stature of Christ (Ephesians 4:13).

In 2 Peter 3:18, the Holy Spirit admonishes us to grow in grace and in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. This establishes the growth of God’s grace in the life of every believer as a rule of Christian living. In Ephesians 4:13, the Holy Spirit further tells us that Christian growth must continue until we become perfect in faith and in the knowledge of God, to the measure of the fullness of Christ. Contrary to this expectation, many individuals in the Body of Christ are like sickly plants with very feeble growth, because they are not ready to put in the work or make the sacrifices that are needed to help them grow at the pace that God desires (James 1:25). Lack of spiritual growth in the Body of Christ is also caused by the reduced emphasis on the teaching ministry in churches and a clear departure from the principles and practice of sanctification by Church leaders. The Christian life is not meant to be stagnant; rather, it must be a progressive experience of encounters with God. Through constant Bible study and emphasis on growth in grace, let us daily aim to be perfect in our Christian character (2 Peter 1:5-8). Our love for Christ should wax stronger and stronger, even as our will becomes subordinate to the will and purpose of God (Acts 21:14).

Open Heaven 18 April 2019 Thursday Prayer Point:

Father, please don’t let me remain stagnant; help me to grow daily in You in Jesus’ Name.

Open Heaven 18 April 2019 Thursday Hymn 12: Deeper, Deeper In The Love Of Jesus

1 Deeper, deeper in the love of Jesus
Daily let me go;
Higher, higher in the school of wisdom,
More of grace to know.

Chorus:
Oh, deeper yet, I pray,
And higher every day,
And wiser, blessed Lord,
In Thy precious, holy Word.

2 Deeper, deeper, blessed Holy Spirit,
Take me deeper still,
Till my life is wholly lost in Jesus,
And His perfect will.

3 Deeper, deeper! though it cost hard trials,
Deeper let me go!
Rooted in the holy love of Jesus,
Let me fruitful grow.

4 Deeper, higher, every day in Jesus,
Till all conflict past,
Finds me conqu’ror, and in His own image
Perfected at last.

5 Deeper, deeper in the faith of Jesus,
Holy faith and true;
In His pow’r and soul exulting wisdom
Let me peace pursue.

‘What Are These People Smoking?’: Franklin Graham Criticizes Taylor University Students Petitioning against Mike Pence

‘What Are These People Smoking?’: Franklin Graham Criticizes Taylor University Students Petitioning against Mike Pence

Thousands of students, alumni, and allies of the small evangelical college, Taylor University, are protesting Mike Pence’s May commencement speech at their school.

“Inviting Vice President Pence to Taylor University and giving him a coveted platform for his political views makes our alumni, faculty, staff and current students complicit in the Trump-Pence Administration’s policies, which we believe are not consistent with the Christian ethic of love we hold dear,” a change.org petition read.

To date, the petition has received over 4,600 signatures with a goal of 5,000. Taylor alumnus Alex Hoekstra started it. “As an alumni of Taylor and as a gay man I’m pretty personally injured by the policies of the Trump/Pence administration and I know that a lot of alumni who identify as other minority groups are personally affected by the Trump/Pence administration,” he told Newsweek.

But not all alumni share Hoekstra’s concern. Kevin Holtsberry, another alumnus, shared with Fox & Friends, “The vice president has very orthodox Christian beliefs – very traditional beliefs – that a vast majority of Christians believe. His political views are shared by a large section of America, so it’s not a radical choice, and I think people should be able to engage and disagree with his views and do it in a mature…

Asia Bibi Is Set to Be Released from Pakistan in Two Weeks

Asia Bibi Is Set to Be Released from Pakistan in Two Weeks

The Christian woman who was accused of blasphemy against Islam and kept in Pakistan will be released soon.

Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan said this week that Asia Bibi will be allowed to leave the country “in a couple of weeks.”

Earlier this month, British Foreign Secretary Jeremy Hunt told the U.K. Parliament that Bibi’s freedom was being negotiated.

“Making sure that she is safe and has somewhere safe to go is a top priority for this government,” Hunt told legislators. “We have had numerous discussions in private with [the] Pakistani government about how to progress on this. We are making progress, and I’m very hopeful that this will have a positive outcome.”

According to The Jerusalem Post, Bibi’s travel documents are ready for her when she is released.

“She is all set to travel abroad. We are waiting for the green signal from concerned authorities in this regard,” a senior government official told The Media Line.

Bibi had been on death row in Pakistan since 2010. She was accused of blasphemy in 2009.

Bibi was working and picking berries near her village when another worker asked her to fetch water from a well. On her return from the well, she took a sip of the water before she gave it to her Muslim co-workers.

In Pakistan, most Muslims do not eat or drink with people from other faiths, and the Muslim workers told Bibi she insulted…

Israeli Scientists Print First 3D Heart Using Human Tissue

Israeli Scientists Print First 3D Heart Using Human Tissue

A research team at Tel Aviv University in Israel have successfully 3D printed a heart made with human tissue.

According to the Times of Israel, on Monday, Israeli scientists unveiled the first of its kind cherry-sized 3D printed heart, deeming it a “major medical breakthrough.”

The lead scientists in the project, Tal Dvir, told the Times of Israel that his team’s 3D printed heart marked “the first time anyone anywhere has successfully engineered and printed an entire heart replete with cells, blood vessels, ventricles and chambers.”

Dvir noted that other scientists had successfully printed 3D hearts, but his heart is the first with cells and blood vessels.

According to USA Today, the team is hoping that the ability to print 3D organs could help critical patients in need of organ transplants.

While the Tel Aviv University team’s heart is merely the size of a rabbit’s, they are hopeful that the seemingly successful printing of the tiny heart could eventually lead to the printing of a human-sized heart as well as organ patches.

The research team notes that one advantage of the printed organs is that there would be a lower organ rejection rates as the organs would be generated using the patient’s own cells.

This first rendering, however, is just the start. Dvir told theTimes of Israel that researchers are now tasked with teaching the heart how to…

Report Shows Increased Hostility toward Christians across Europe

Report Shows Increased Hostility toward Christians across Europe

Each day in France, two churches are desecrated in the country, according to the Middle East Forum.

According to CBN News, the report from the Middle East Forum showed that across Europe, there has been an increase in attacks on churches and Christian symbols in recent years.

In 2018, there were some 1,063 attacks on French Christian churches and symbols, such as statues and crosses. That number of attacks was a 17 percent jump from the year prior.

“I think there is a rising hostility in France against the church and its symbols,” stated Ellen Fantini, executive director of Observatory of Intolerance and Discrimination Against Christians in Europe. “It seems to be more against Christianity and the symbols of Christianity.”

“These attacks are on symbols that are really sacred to parishioners, to Catholics,” she added. “Desecration of consecrated hosts is a very personal attack on Catholicism and Christianity, more than spray-painting a slogan on the outside wall of a church.”

Catholic churches in France have been broken into and crosses have been destroyed, statues smashed and tabernacles vandalized.

The Church of St. Sulpice in Paris was most recently targeted and set on fire after service on a Sunday. Earlier in the month, the St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Houilles was targeted where criminals destroyed a statue of the Virgin Mary and tried to break the…

Girl Suspended for Kicking Boy Who Entered Girls’ Restroom in Transgender Spat

Girl Suspended for Kicking Boy Who Entered Girls’ Restroom in Transgender Spat

A state representative is speaking up in defense of a girl who was expelled after she kicked a boy who entered the girls’ restroom.

The incident took place at North Pole High School in Alaska and was sparked, in part, by the school’s policy allowing transgender students to use whichever restroom they wish.

On April 1, a transgender student who is biologically female but identifies as male took a Snapchat selfie picture in the boys’ restroom. The public nature of the photo upset several boys, who decided to take their own Snapchat picture in the girls’ restroom, according to a statement from the school district.

On April 4, a group of seven boys began their prank, but only one boy made it past the girls’ restroom door frame. A female student who was leaving the restroom took action.

“The female student kicked the first male student in the groin,” the school district statement said. “The male students turned around and left the area.”

After an investigation, the girl and the seven boys were disciplined. The school district didn’t release details of the discipline, but the girl’s family told the Anchorage Daily News she was expelled.

“The district does not encourage students or staff to use force against students, staff or visitors to school facilities,” the school district said. “In general, we recommend students…

21-Year-Old Arrested, Charged with Hate Crime for the Burning of Three Historically Black Churches in Louisiana

21-Year-Old Arrested, Charged with Hate Crime for the Burning of Three Historically Black Churches in Louisiana

21-year-old Holden Matthews has been arrested for burning down three historically black churches in Louisiana. Matthews has been charged with arson and committing a hate crime.

As Christian Headlines previously reported, three historically black churches were set ablaze over the course of 10 days earlier this month and late last month.

Local authorities, the FBI and the ATF have all been working the cases which resulted in the arrest of Matthews last week.

According to NBC News, authorities were initially hesitant to call the church burnings a hate crime, but new evidence has reportedly suggested otherwise. The outlet reports that Matthews – a sheriff’s deputy’s son with no previous criminal record – was arrested on Monday on three charges of arson with three more charges accusing him of violating Louisiana’s hate crime law added on Monday.

According to Louisiana’s Fire Marshal, Butch Browning, federal authorities are considering federal hate crime charges as well.

The Associated Press reports that authorities found evidence on Matthews cellphone implicating him in the crime. The man seemingly took photos of the burning churches before authorities arrived and videoed himself admitting to the crimes. Phone records also placed him near each church at the times of the fires.

Despite the mounting evidence…
