BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: 1 Samuel 4-6; Luke 19:1-17

FIRE SCRIPTURE: 1 Samuel 30:1-4

MEMORY VERSE: “If thou faint in the day of adversity, thy strength is small.” – Proverbs 24:10

The MESSAGE:

Many people will naturally feel bad and sometimes dejected over certain losses depending on the nature and magnitude of the loss. There are some losses you many not so much bother yourself over when they occur, but there are some that will challenge your faith and confidence beyond imagination. A man yet to be confronted by a very formidable enemy and terrible loss is more likely to boast of his emotional strength. Your strength lies in your attitude to the major adversity you suffer. This was the situation David found himself in today’s study.

David was greatly distressed because the Amalekites had kidnapped all the women and children left in the camp at Ziklag and the city was burned. It was the mercy of the Lord that the Amalekites spared the lives of the women and children, for in their raids, David and his men had certainly killed their share of their enemy’s women and children (1 Samuel 27:11). Even though David and his men wept bitterly over this terrible situation, their weeping did not bring any solution to the problem confronting them. Men of war could not figure out a better solution to the problem than weeping profusely.

The next reaction of the soldiers was to stone David to death having failed to figure out the right solution to the problem at hand. Indeed, different people react in different ways to the same circumstances because what life does to us depends on what life finds in us. The attempt to stone David would compound their problem as they would have to contend with the loss of a great leader, which would still not bring any solution to their problem. This threat to David’s life somehow produced a change in his attitude to the problem. Rather then yell at his followers, David chose to seek God’s face concerning the matter. This proved to be a better approach than weeping at a time when human wisdom had failed woefully.

As David consulted the Lord, he was assured that his pursuit of the enemy would meet with success. This triggered a positive move to pursue the enemies even though they had just returned from war front terribly tired. The Lord had spoken but the direction to go was not mentioned. David had to engage his warfare skill to trace the path of the enemies and the Lord guided them to find an Egyptian slave whom his Amalekite master had abandoned because he was ill. The abandonment of the sick slave which was a terrible mistake on the part of the Amalekite soldier became the ingredient for David’s victory. The sick slave was fed and revived by David and he in turn led David and his men to the Amalekites camp where they overpowered them and recovered all they had taken away.

As the Lord delivered David in that dark hour of his life, we can apply this knowledge to better understand how God helps His people when problems and crises come into their lives. First, the Lord encouraged David so that he didn’t despair but trusted the Lord to help him. Whenever a crises comes, we need the courage to face it and we must not try to blame others or pretend that nothing is wrong. The Lord also gave David wisdom to know what to do and the strength to do it. He and his men were weary, but the Lord enabled David and 400 of his men to preserve in their quest for the Amalekite invaders. The Lord also provided David with the facts he needed so he could find where the enemy was camping in that vast wilderness. When we step out by faith and trust the Lord, He will guide us when we need it. Finally, God gave David and his men the strength they needed to defeat the enemy and recover the prisoners and their wealth. Commit your way to the Lord, trust also in Him, and He shall bring it to pass. Today may look bleak, but your tomorrow shall be brighter and better, in Jesus’ name.

MOTIVATIONAL QUOTE:
COURAGE IS ONE STEP AHEAD OF FEAR.

PROPHETIC WORD:
You will overcome all your life’s troubles.

Text: Joshua 16:1-10 (KJV)

Key Verse: “And they drave not out the Canaanites that dwelt in Gezer: but the Canaanites dwell among the Ephraimites unto this day, and serve under tribute” (Joshua 16:10).

MESSAGE:

In Egypt, Israel had been surrounded by all kinds of idols and false worship; but leaving Egypt did not automatically guarantee their being completely free from heathen religious influences because the land of Canaan which they were to inherit was as well infested with idol worship and pagan religions. God therefore, continually instructed them to completely drive out the various nations that originally inhabited the promised land (Exodus 23:31b-33). Contrary to God’s command, the Ephraimites failed to drive out the Canaanites but placed them under tribute. The pagan people and their gods which they failed to drive out of the land, eventually became thorns in their flesh (Judges 2:1-3). God’s covenant to protect and keep them was broken; both Ephraim and the entire nation of Israel suffered as they experienced series of oppression and defeat from the enemy nations.

Many so-called Christians do not let go of old “little foxes” after they claim to have been converted. The scriptures says “take us the little foxes, the little foxes, that spoil the vines…” (Songs of Solomon 2:15). Samson refused to let go of that fox (Delilah). She soon became the snare that cut short both his ministry and life. Judas Iscariot held on to covetousness, the snare that led him to eternal perdition. Is there any sinful lifestyle you still cherish or nurture? You need to sincerely and forcefully combat it by genuinely and penitently going to the Lord in repentance. Get rid of the fox before it ensnares you in life and even in eternity.

Thought For The Day: Remove that friendly enemy before it takes hold of your life.

Changing Your World by Pastor David Ibiyeomie

Topic: Changing Your World

Matt. 5:16 -Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.

Change does not take place by changing location, nationality or church; no, change takes place when you change. Nothing can ever change until you change. Change is not moving to a new location because an Alligator cannot change to a Crocodile no matter the change of location.

Change begins with you changing. Until there is a change on your inside, there cannot be a change around you. There has to be a change on your inside first before you can effect changes around you.

Also Read: Free from Frustration by Pastor David Ibiyeomie

It is a changed man that changes the world. It is your change that can determine the extent to which you can change others. There cannot be a change until there is a change in your character because character is the real you and the foundation for success.

If you want to be a world changer, determine to honour God by living and standing for godliness. The easiest way to change the world is to have character. The world is looking for changed people.

James 3:11-14 -Doth a fountain send forth at the same place sweet water and bitter? 12 Can the fig tree, my brethren, bear olive berries? either a vine, figs? so can no fountain both yield salt water and fresh. 13 Who is a wise man and endued with knowledge among you? let him shew out of a good conversation his works with meekness of wisdom. 14 But if ye have bitter envying and strife in your hearts, glory not, and lie not against the truth.

You must stand for something; you must have values. Martin Luther King Junior said, “The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy”

The loudest message you preach is the life you live. Just change and your friends will follow you to Christ even without preaching to them. The life you live is a greater message than the ones you speak. You can’t change the world until you change your life. Change starts with a renewed mindset and by self-discipline.

Rom. 12:2 – And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

Your mind should go for the things that are perfect; it should go for the word of God. Your mind should only do what God wants you to do; anything contrary to that, your mind has to drop it if you want to be a world changer.

God bless you

The redeemed of the Lord shall return, and come with singing unto Zion; and everlasting joy shall be upon their head: they shall obtain gladness and joy; and sorrow and [grief] shall flee away. – Isaiah 51:11

Did you know that as a believer you’ve been redeemed from the curse of grief and sorrow by the blood of Jesus Christ? You don’t have to put up with them any more than you have to put up with sin or sickness or disease.

God started teaching me about this personally several months before my mother went home to be with Him in August 1988. Every time He’d show me something about it, I’d put it into practice. (You ought to do that with anything God is teaching you. Start practicing it now, and you can walk in it when the time comes!)

So, eight and a half months before my mother left, I began standing against grief and sorrow. I made a decision to “sorrow not.” Immediately the devil began to attack my emotions.

But I’d say, “No. I won’t receive that. I take authority over these feelings in Jesus’ Name. I’ve given my body as a sacrifice well-pleasing unto the Lord, and I won’t partake of anything but His joy.” Then I’d start speaking the Word and praising out loud.

I went through three rugged days of resisting until those sorry spirits were gone.

What I’m telling you is this: You’re going to have to stand against grief and sorrow. It doesn’t belong to you. It’s not from your heavenly Father. You may have to walk the floor all night long. But instead of worrying and crying, walk the floor and quote the Word until that heavy spirit leaves and the joy of the Lord comes.

Remember who you are. You’re the one who shall obtain gladness and joy. You’re the one sorrow and grief shall flee away from. You are the redeemed!

Matthew 13:15, ‘For this people’s heart is waxed gross, and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes they have closed; lest at any time they should see with their eyes and hear with their ears, and should understand with their heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them.’

Text: Matthew 13:14-23

The word ‘waxed’ means ‘to become gradually more intense or to increase’ and shows that this condition of the heart is not something we are born with or that strikes us suddenly. It has to be nurtured over a prolonged period of time. This is why we should not violate our conscience, even in small things. Guarding our conscience will keep us sensitive to God and will stop our hearts from becoming hardened. If we will stay faithful to God, even in the small things, then we will be faithful in the more important things also.

Keeping the commandments doesn’t affect God’s willingness to love us, but it affects our awareness of how much He loves us. If we live in sin, our conscience becomes defiled and it condemns us. It’s not God condemning us, but our conscience. God still loves us. John was speaking of this same thing in 1 John 3:20, when he said, ‘For if our heart condemn us, God is greater than our heart, and knoweth all things.’ However, as far as this earthly life goes, our awareness of God’s love is everything. Therefore, we must keep Satan from blinding us to the love of God.

The most effective way of doing this is to give no place to the devil through sin. John went on to say in 1 John 3:21, ‘Beloved, if our heart condemn us not, then have we confidence toward God.’ Holiness is essential in keeping our hearts assured of the love of God (1 Jn. 3:19). It’s the nature of a Christian to walk in the light and not in darkness. When you are rightly informed of who you are and what you have in Christ, holiness just naturally flows out of you. That’s your nature.

Learn to take your every problem to the Bible. Within its pages you will find the correct answer. But most of all, the Bible is a revelation of the nature of God. Tory’s Bible quote on Brexit ‘deeply offensive to Christians’

Labour’s Barry Sheerman (Huddersfield) criticised Mark Francois (Rayleigh and Wickford) for his comments in the run-up to Easter.

Shortly after the legislation put forward by Yvette Cooper passed its final Commons hurdle late on Wednesday, Mr Francois (pictured above) called it a “constitutional outrage”.

The leading Eurosceptic said the Bill had been “rammed through in four hours”, then quoted from the Gospel of Luke in the New Testament, adding: “The public won’t be impressed by this. Forgive them father, they know not what they do.”

He was criticised by some MPs in the chamber at the time but not by the Speaker John Bercow, and on Thursday morning at Business Questions, Mr Sheerman (pictured below) called for a debate on “the way we treat each other, the respect, the language that we use”.

He said to Leader of the Commons Andrea Leadsom: “Could she particularly bear in mind something that was very offensive said last night by the member for Rayleigh and Wickford, when at this time we are in Lent and approaching Easter, when he said, ‘Forgive them father for they know not what they do’.

“To a Christian, and I’m a former parliamentary church warden, it was deeply offensive to use that phrase in the context of a debate on Brexit. It was offensive, and I do hope that we can have discussion about what is and what isn’t appropriate to say in this House.”

Yale Law School Pulls Fellowship Funding for Students Working at Christian Organizations

Yale Law School Pulls Fellowship Funding for Students Working at Christian Organizations

Yale Law School has reportedly stripped students completing fellowships with “religious or conservative public interest organizations” of financial aid.

According to Aaron Haviland of the Federalist, after Yale refused to allow conservative Christian law group Alliance Defending Freedom to come to campus to discuss the highly publicized Masterpiece Cakeshop case, they further restricted conservative and religious voices on campus by denying students who work for conservative companies funding during their summer fellowships.

Haviland wrote, “On March 25, one month after the controversy, Yale Law School announced via email that it was extending its nondiscrimination policy to summer public interest fellowships, postgraduate public interest fellowships, and loan forgiveness for public interest careers.”

He continued noting that “The school will no longer provide financial support for students and graduates who work at organizations that discriminate on the basis of ‘sexual orientation and gender identity and expression.’”

According to Haviland, who is a current law student at Yale Law School, the university took this action after an LGBTQ+ rights group called the Outlaws took issue with Yale’s admissions policy. Reportedly, the group “demanded” Yale Law school “clarify” its admissions policies for conservative students who…

Memorise: “For his anger endureth but a moment; in his favour is life: weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning.”- Psalm 30:5

Read: Exodus 14:19-24 (KJV)

19 And the angel of God, which went before the camp of Israel, removed and went behind them; and the pillar of the cloud went from before their face, and stood behind them:

20 And it came between the camp of the Egyptians and the camp of Israel; and it was a cloud and darkness to them, but it gave light by night to these: so that the one came not near the other all the night.

21 And Moses stretched out his hand over the sea; and the LORD caused the sea to go back by a strong east wind all that night, and made the sea dry land, and the waters were divided.

22 And the children of Israel went into the midst of the sea upon the dry ground: and the waters were a wall unto them on their right hand, and on their left.

23 And the Egyptians pursued, and went in after them to the midst of the sea, even all Pharaoh’s horses, his chariots, and his horsemen.

24 And it came to pass, that in the morning watch the LORD looked unto the host of the Egyptians through the pillar of fire and of the cloud, and troubled the host of the Egyptians,

Bible in One Year: Hebrews 11-13, Jeremiah 12

Open Heaven 6 April 2019 Saturday MESSAGE:

Night is generally identified as the period of darkness between evening and morning. It is a time of rest or cessation from daily activities, which is a good thing. However, because darkness also provides cover for evil activities, the devil and his demons, in collaboration with their human agents, usually commit all manner of evil works against people at night. Exposing their mode of operation, the Lord reveals in Matthew 13:25 that while men slept at night, the enemy came, corrupted their destinies with evil seeds and escaped unnoticed. The night is therefore recognized as the time of peak activity for the powers of darkness, and as the period when evil is easily planned and executed. Indeed, evil flourishes at night, so much so that the night life of most cities brims over with alcohol, drugs, prostitution, gambling, gangsterism and other terrible vices. This situation is especially rife in places where the spiritual atmosphere is under the control of the rulers of the darkness of this world (Ephesians 6:12). It is this reality that has given the night the sinister image it has. I decreed that every problem that entered your life under the cover of darkness be neutralized today in Jesus’ Name.

Notwithstanding the evil characteristics of the night, because God originally created the night to be good, good things can still come out of it. Among other things, the night time provides an ideal opportunity for praise, worship, prayer and in-depth Bible study. More importantly, multiple examples from the Bible and from our life experiences show that God is in the business of carrying out powerful deliverance at night. I therefore pray that your insurmountable problems will pass away with the night, and you will wake up to Joy and celebration in Jesus’ Name. In Exodus 14:24, as morning approach, God troubled the camp of the Egyptians so much that they knew God’s hand was against them. All their soldiers perished before dawn, and the Israelites woke up to Joy and celebration. This type of testimony will be your portion in Jesus’ Name. In Acts 16:25-26, Paul and Silas went to bed as prisoners, but God visited the prison after midnight to deliver them with a foundation-shaking earthquake, and they woke up as free men in the morning. I pray that your problems will disappear with the night, and you will wake up to celebration in Jesus’ Name. Lastly, in Acts 12:6-10, Peter was kept in a maximum-security prison, but an angel of God visited the prison that night. Peter’s chains were broken and the prison gate opened to him by itself. He walked out of the prison a free man and joined the people of God to celebrate and praise God in the morning. God will give you such a testimony in Jesus’ Name.

Financial administrator shot dead in Nigerian church

Local reports indicate Gabriel Kola Abiodun was killed on Thursday morning by gunmen suspected to be armed robbers at the diocesan office complex of the church in Akure.

An eyewitness told the website Sahara Reporters that three gunmen attacked the 60-year-old father of four after he had returned from making bank transactions.

The witness who wished to remain anonymous, said: “The man (financial administrator) had just returned from one of the new generation banks where he had gone to withdraw some funds, which we learnt was probably meant for retirees.

“The money was about N500,000 (£1,065). He was shot in the thigh.

“I think the armed robbers attacked him, collected the money, before they escaped from the premises. By the time we came out of the building, there were blood stains everywhere on the floor.

“It’s a very sad thing.”

Femi Joseph, spokesman of the Ondo Police Command, confirmed the incident to Sahara Reporters.

“Yes, it is true the man was shot, but we are now investigating the case and his body has been evacuated,” Joseph said.

Meanwhile, the Anglican Bishop of the Akure Diocese has suggested that bank officials may have been involved in the shooting.

Rt Rev Simeon Oluwole Borokini said in a message to the police: “Don’t forget that a few months ago, one of our priests went to collect money from the bank and he was trailed to the school and the money…
