The practice of ordination has come under scrutiny recently, so we took the time in this episode to discuss its importance and the need to be thorough in the process of ordaining ministers.

Some highlights from today’s episode include:

  • Churches should be highly thoughtful when they consider ordaining a person to gospel ministry.
  • Background checks should be normative in the ordination process.
  • Social media background checks should be standard when hiring a pastor or ordaining someone for ministry.
  • Theological review should be foundational to the ordination process.

The four points we discuss are:

  1. Autonomy is not an excuse for irresponsibility.
  2. Background checks should become normative in the ordination process.
  3. We should not assume the ordination of a pastor or staff member from another church is sufficient for our church.
  4. Leaders should insist on vigorous examinations of candidates for ordination.

Thoughts of the Heart – Joyce Meyer Devotional 22 March 2019

Topic: Thoughts of the Heart [Joyce Meyer Devotional 22 March 2019]

Either make the tree good and its fruit good, or make the tree bad and its fruit bad, for the tree is known by its fruit. — Matthew 12:33

The Bible says a tree is known by its fruit, and the same is true of you. You can look at a person’s attitude and know what kind of thinking is prevalent in their life. A sweet, kind person does not have mean, vindictive thoughts. By the same token, a truly evil person does not have good, loving thoughts.

Your thoughts bear fruit. Think good thoughts and the fruit in your life will be good. Think bad thoughts and the fruit in your life will be bad. Remember Proverbs 23:7 (AMPC) and allow it to have an impact on your life: For as you think in your heart, so are you.

Prayer Starter: Thank You, Father, for the power of Your Word to renew my thoughts and transform every single area of my life. Help me to be aware of what is going on in my mind and to constantly choose positive, uplifting, faith-filled thoughts from Your Word. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Patterned Like Christ – Anglican Communion 22 March 2019

The Daily Fountain Daily Devotional of the Church Of Nigeria (Anglican Communion) 22 March 2019 – Patterned Like Christ

TOPIC: Patterned Like Christ

READ: Ephesians 5:21-23 King James Version (KJV)

21 Submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God.

22 Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord.

23 For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body.

THE MESSAGE:

We live in a generation where the family has been threatened by divorce, wrong philosophies, separation, etc. In spite of this, the word of God is clear and unchanging about expected patterns of behaviour to achieve Christian unity in the home.

These regulations are not based on circumstances, but should be adhered to out of reverence for Christ (verse 21). It is out of this reverence, that husbands and wives should be subject to each other in spite of their cultures (verse 21).Wives are enjoined to submit and adapt to their husbands as the appointed head of the family, irrespective of their status, education, experience, etc.

Husbands are to love their wives in two ways: as Christ loved the Church (verse 25) and as their own bodies (verse 28). Note that no wife is a perfect package but is given to the husband (likened to the Church and Christ) to sanctify by words and deeds to make her glorious to Himself (verses 26-28)

Finally, absolute unity is required (verse 31) signifying detachment from every culture, family ties, peer pressure and environmental influences that negate biblical principles of relationship for marriage. It is our work as believers to return to this pattern to restore the lost glory of the family in our generation.

Prayer: Lord please help me to adhere to biblical roles stipulated for my position in the family, in Jesus’ name.

Understanding the Study of God’s Word – Seeds of Destiny 22 March 2019 Devotional

Topic: Understanding the Study of God’s Word [Seeds of Destiny 22 March 2019 Devotional]

The Word of God that is not studied cannot be revealed; and when the Word of God is not revealed, what it contains cannot be accessed.

SCRIPTURE: Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man does not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.” Matthew 4:4(NIV)

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: The Word of God that is not studied cannot be revealed; and when the Word of God is not revealed, what it contains cannot be accessed.

From our anchor Scripture, Jesus makes it clear that a Christian does not live by bread alone but by the Word of God. The Word of God transmits the life of God into our lives in order for us to live like God and fulfil our destiny (John 6:63). The Word of God is key to deliverance from every captivity of the devil (Psalm 107:20).

We need the Word of God to access the life of God (John 1:5). Therefore, it is very important to study the Word of God. The study of the Word of God is important because the Word of God that is not studied cannot be revealed; and when the Word of God is not revealed, what it contains cannot be accessed.

Now, what does it mean to study the Word of Good?

To study the Word of God is to access the ways, thoughts, principles and precepts of God from His Book in order to walk better with Him.

Beloved, when you study God’s Word, you are trying to know what He likes, how He thinks, what His principles are, what you are forbidden from doing if you want to walk with Him, etc. This is what studying the Word of God is all about. To study God’s Word is not about knowing Scriptures to quote; it is about knowing the ways, thoughts and principles of God.

My counsel is, make up your mind to know what God likes and how He thinks when you study God’s Word; do not study the Word of God just to fulfil all righteousness.

Remember this: The Word of God that is not studied cannot be revealed; and when the Word of God is not revealed, what it contains cannot be accessed.

ASSIGNMENTS:

  1. Develop the appetite and discipline to study God’s Word.
  2. Make the study of God’s Word a lifelong habit

PRAYER: O Lord, I ask that You give me the grace to study Your Word. I receive the discipline to meditate on Your Word frequently, Lord, in Jesus’ Name.

DAILY READING: Numbers 33:40 to 35:34, Luke 5:12 to 28, Psalm 65:1 to 13, Proverbs 11:23.

Church of England criticises Home Office over Bible references in asylum refusal notice

A letter from the department cited passages from Leviticus, Matthew and Exodus, and said the Book of Revelation is “filled with imagery of revenge, destruction, death and violence”.

The refusal notice, sent to an Iranian national, added: “These examples are inconsistent with your claim that you converted to Christianity after discovering it is a ‘peaceful’ religion.”

The Bishop of Durham, Rt Rev Paul Butler, said the case shows the Home Office must radically change its understanding of all religious beliefs.

He said: “I am extremely concerned that a Government department could determine the future of another human being based on such a profound misunderstanding of the texts and practices of faith communities.

“To use extracts from the Book of Revelation to argue that Christianity is a violent religion is like arguing that a Government report on the impact of climate change is advocating drought and flooding.”

Mr Butler, who leads for the bishops in the House of Lords on matters relating to immigration, asylum and refugees, welcomed the Home Office’s…

All That Truly Matters – Rhapsody of Realities 22 March 2019

Rhapsody of Realities 22 March 2019 By Pastor Chris Oyakhilome – All That Truly Matters

Topic: All That Truly Matters

For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad (2 Corinthians 5:10).

As a Christian, every opportunity of service that God gives to you is important, and it means a lot in the Kingdom. You should realise that each one of us is going to give an account to God for the life we lived and for all He asked us to do. You’ll give an account to Him for your participation in the ministry of the Gospel; that’s what we read in our opening verse.

Sometimes, when we’re involved in something, whether an activity or a project, we often become oblivious of some important realities. People aren’t able to often stand outside of themselves to examine their ways and actions. And so, not many realise that their actions are a message every day, for which they must give an account to God.

You have to remember that your service of God, and to God, is written in God’s Book. Every word spoken, every act of your life, is in God’s Book. Your story is being written by God; you inspire that story. He has a plan that He’s already written concerning you, but you write your own story too every day in the way and manner you live your life.

One day, there’ll be a comparison between the life God drew up for you, the life He ordained for you, and what you eventually turned out to be; how you eventually lived. And your reward will be in line with how the life you lived measured up to the life He drew up for you.

The most important thing in your life is to discover God’s purpose for you, and fulfil it. Nothing on earth compares with serving the Lord and living for Him. Nothing could be better for time and eternity than to live for Jesus Christ; He’s all that truly matters: “And that he died for all, that they which live should not henceforth live unto themselves, but unto him which died for them, and rose again” (2 Corinthians 5:15).

CONFESSION
I’m risen with Christ, and my affection is set on things above, where Christ sits at the right hand of God. I love you Lord with all my heart, and living for you is all that matters to me; to be relevant to the expansion of your Kingdom, and the establishment of your righteousness on earth. Hallelujah!

Benefits of Fasting – Open Heavens for Teens 22 March 2019

Topic Benefits of Fasting [Open Heavens for Teens 22 March 2019]

Memorise: “And he said unto them, this kind can come forth by nothing, but by prayer and fasting.” – Mark 9:29

Read: Matthew 6:16-18

16 And whenever you are fasting, do not look gloomy and sour and dreary like the hypocrites, for they put on a dismal countenance, that their fasting may be apparent to and seen by men. Truly I say to you, they have their reward in full already.

17 But when you fast, perfume your head and wash your face,

18 So that your fasting may not be noticed by men but by your Father, Who sees in secret; and your Father, Who sees in secret, will reward you in the open.

Bible In One Year: Joshua 7-8, Luke 2:25-52

MESSAGE:

Many teenagers see fasting as something meant for adults alone, most of the teenagers who even fast don’t know why they do so. Many think that fasting is a spiritual duty to God, but it isn’t. Fasting is a spiritual duty to yourself. When people fast, they place emphasis on what they are giving up when in actual fact, fasting is about what you are getting; you are making your spirit man more awake and sensitive to receive from God.

Fasting cleanses the soul, and the cleaner a person’s soul is, the larger its capacity to take in more of the Holy Spirit who in turn empowers you to live a life pleasing to God and beyond the natural.

When you fast, you shut down all the noise around you and become more sensitive to God’s voice. As a teenager, nothing beats striving to hear God’s voice as early as possible to know what exactly your purpose in life is.

Action Point: Take out a day in every week to fast and pray.

Hymn 3

1. There shall be showers of blessing
This is the promise of love;
There shall be season refreshing
Sent from the Savior above

Chorus:
Showers of blessing,
Showers of blessing we need;
Mercy drop ’round are falling,
But for the showers we plead.

2. There shall be showers of blessing
Precious reviving again;
Over the hills and the valleys,
Sound of abundance of rain.

3. There shall be showers of blessing
Send them upon us O Lord
Grant to us a refreshing;
Come now and honor Thy Word.

4. There shall be showers of blessing
Oh that today thy might fall,
Now as to God we are confessing,
Now as on Jesus we call!

The God-Kind Personality – MFM Daily Devotional 22 March 2019

MFM Mountain Top Life Daily Devotional 22 March 2019 By Dr. D.K Olukoya – The God-Kind Personality

TOPIC: The God-Kind Personality (Mountain Of Fire and Miracle Ministries, MFM Daily Devotional 22 March 2019)

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: Joshua 10-12; Luke 1:39-56

FIRE SCRIPTURE: Daniel 5:8-11

MEMORY VERSE: “I have said, Ye are gods; and all of you are children of the most High.” – Psalms 82:6

The MESSAGE:

What would you say about a man whose life is an epitome of excellence. What would you say about a man who is asked a riddle or given an aged equation to solve and the man dissolves it like water in seconds?

What would you say about a man that the Bible describes as being ten times better in all matter of wisdom and understanding in the whole of an empire? A biblical example is Daniel. King Nebuchadnezzar had no choice than to label Daniel as a man whose life is an epitome of the holy gods. His life was always too far from ordinary. In fact, this man was very relevant in the era of three kings such that one of them sought to make him the president over the whole empire.

Beloved, you too can get to that stage in life where people cannot start a thing and even end it without you. You too can become an indispensable tool. Little wonder Romans 8:19 says that the earnest expectation of the creature awaits the manifestations of the sons of God. As a child of God, your life must radiate the glory of God. In all sphere of life, the world is expecting something different from you.

If Daniel were to be on campus today, his results would of course be record-breaking, and his life would be a challenge to others. Some would envy him. His lecturers would be willing to be friends with him and would want to unravel the mystery behind his strange nature.

If he were to be in our offices today, many would wonder if he were to be human and his bosses would respect him. If he were to be in the helms of affairs of our world today, people would say he is not ordinary. What do you think that the world is saying about you? Think about it. You can pray for the spirit that set Daniel apart and made him to excel to come upon you. Do so now!

MOTIVATIONAL QUOTE:
THE GOD-KIND OF MAN IS THAT MAN WHO RULES HIS WORLD.

PROPHETIC WORD:
May you encounter the Spirit of the Holy God.

PRAYER POINTS:

MORNING

  1. O Lord, mould my life the way You want it, in the name of Jesus.
  2. My life, become a wonder to many, in the name of Jesus.
  3. Every power burying my head, be wasted, in the name of Jesus.
    EVENING
  4. My glory and lifter of my head, Jesus Christ, lift my head, in the name of Jesus.
  5. Every unprogressive spirit, release me, in the name of Jesus.
  6. Every habit in my life, working against my destiny, die, in the name of Jesus.
  7. O Lord, deliver me from those killing my spiritual antenna, in the name of Jesus.

Where are the Shepherds? – DCLM Daily Manna 22 March 2019

Topic: Where are the Shepherds? [DCLM Daily Manna 22 March 2019 Daily Devotional by Pastor William Folorunso Kumuyi]

Text: Matthew 9:27-38 (KJV)

Key Verse: “But when he saw the multitudes, he was moved with compassion on them, because they fainted, and were scattered abroad, as sheep having no shepherd” (Matthew 9:36).

MESSAGE:

As at March 2018, the world’s population was estimated to be approximately 7.6 billion. 2.91 billion of them live in unreached people groups with little or no access to the gospel of Jesus Christ. According to Joshua Project, there are approximately 16,500 unique people groups in the world with about 6,900 of them considered unreached. The vast majority (95%) of these least reached groups exist in the 10/40 window and less than 10% of missionary work is done among these people. Another missionary-minded group called Finishing the Task, said there are 440 unengaged, unreached people groups with populations over 25,000, together numbering over 24 million souls that are still beyond the reach of the gospel. These 440 are perhaps the neediest of the needy as they are unengaged, which means that they have no contact with church, missionary or mission agency. Thus, no one has yet taken responsibility to tell them about Jesus Christ.

The summary of Christ’s earthly ministry is that He “went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him (Acts 10:38). He never considered the multitude of people that came to Him for help as mere statistics. What people see in the multitude determines how they react to them or treat them. Politicians, business people, advertisers, etc. see the multitudes from different perspectives.

The human soul is beyond statistics to God and it should also be to those who are God’s. If we have accepted Christ as Lord and Savior, we must like Him, seek to have a shepherd’s heart and compassion on the many who live around us daily without the knowledge of the true God. We must, in utmost compassion, reach out to them before it is too late.

Thought For The Day: It is virtuous to be a shepherd to wandering souls.

The Bible In One Year: Deuteronomy 4-6
