New petition could unseat disgraced Christian MP

The recall petition could force Fiona Onasanya out of her Peterborough constituency and pave the way for a by-election, if ten per cent sign it.

The 35-year-old served 28 days of a three-month sentence for perverting the course of justice after she was convicted for lying about a speeding offence.

Ms Onasanya, who posted a video on Monday in which she insisted upon her innocence, has continued to receive her £77,000 salary.

If a by-election is called, rules allow her to stand for re-election. Constituents have six weeks to sign the petition, which closes at 5pm on 1st May.

Ms Onasanya was elected for Labour in Peterborough in 2017. She was expelled from the party following her conviction.

She has been the second MP to face a recall petition since the procedure was introduced in 2015. It gives voters a way of removing MPs in between elections.

Ian Paisley Jr, also a Christian, avoided a by-election when a recall petition was launched in his constituency last year.

The North Antrim MP was temporarily suspended from Parliament for failing to declare a holiday which was funded by the government of Sri Lanka.

Jonathan Brady/PA Wire

Ms Onasanya was not automatically removed as an MP because her sentence was less than twelve months. She has resisted calls to resign.

Recall petitions are used when an MP receives a custodial sentence (including…

Harry made godfather to Zara’s daughter as he and Meghan attend christening

Harry and Meghan, who are just weeks away from the arrival of their first child, joined the royals at the baptism of nine-month-old Lena in Gloucestershire.

The Queen, who did not attend Prince Louis’s christening last July because it came ahead of a busy week of high-profile events, was among the guests at St Nicholas Church in Cherington at the weekend.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were not there, and neither was the Duke of Edinburgh, who is spending much of his retirement at Wood Farm on the Sandringham estate, the Daily Mail reported.

Heavily pregnant Meghan, whose first child is due at the end of next month, wore a navy beret and a vintage 1950s double-breasted silk brown Dior coat for the private occasion.

Dominic Lipinski/PA Wire

Lena’s proud parents, equestrian champion Zara and former England rugby star Mike Tindall, were joined by Zara’s parents the Princess Royal and Captain Mark Phillips, who divorced in 1992.

The youngest member of the Tindall family – a sister to five-year-old Mia – was christened Lena Elizabeth, with her second name a tribute to her great-grandmother the Queen.

Meghan has carried out her final scheduled public engagement before the birth of her baby, but is still working behind the scenes privately, holding meetings with the charities she supports.

Energize – Joyce Meyer Devotional 19 March 2019

Topic: Energize [Joyce Meyer Devotional 19 March 2019]

And there are [distinctive] ways of working [to accomplish things], but it is the same God who produces all things in all believers [inspiring, energizing, and empowering them]. — 1 Corinthians 12:6 (AMP)

To energize means, “to give strength or force to; to give active vigor to.”

All of our thoughts, good or bad, have an effect on our physical being. The mind and body are definitely connected. Positive, hopeful thoughts energize our soul and physical bodies, whereas negative, hopeless thoughts drain our energy.

Physical tiredness is not always a result of wrong thinking. We can certainly have a sickness or disease that leads to a loss of energy, or we may even wake up tired for no known reason. But we do know that science and medical technology verify that the mind and body have a close connection, and that our thinking does have a direct effect on our body.

Our bodies are like automobiles that God provides for us to drive around on earth. If we want them to perform to their maximum ability and be energized, then we need to choose to think in ways that will help fuel them.

Prayer Starter: Lord, please help me to choose positive, hopeful, faith-filled thoughts today—thoughts that agree with Your Word and will energize my life. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Don’t Allow distractions – Rhapsody of Realities 19 March 2019

Rhapsody of Realities 19 March 2019 By Pastor Chris Oyakhilome – Don’t Allow distractions

Topic: Don’t Allow distractions

Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him (1 John 2:15).

Christ Jesus already provided everything you need to be triumphant, successful, and prosperous in life. Therefore, you have no reason to be distracted or to take your focus off fulfilling His call on your life.

Distractions can come in different ways to impede your passion, and stop you from being all that the Lord has destined for you to be. They can come in the form of needs; the things you want or things you want to do, whether or not they’re working out. Distractions can also come from people such as relatives, parents, friends, who try to shift your focus to something different from God’s calling on your life.

Nonetheless, in whatever way or shade distractions come, refuse to allow them. Understand that as a Christian, especially when you’re making an impact with the Gospel, you’ll face persecutions; there’ll be those who’ll be against you, or even hate you, but that shouldn’t be a surprise to you at all. Jesus said, “…If they have persecuted me, they will also persecute you…” (John 15:20). But guess what? It makes no difference who’s against you; you’re forever a victor; you’re more than a conqueror.

Distractions can come from the devil too. He can bring such thoughts to you as, “Do you think you’re supposed to be a Christian? What has this Christianity even done for you?” Never entertain such thoughts; when they come, refute them and say, “Get thee hence, Satan, for thou savoureth not the things that be of God, but the things that be of men.”

Keep fueling your love for the Master, and refuse to allow anything dissipate your zeal; anything that’ll prevent you from putting your best in the Gospel. Once you’re able to eliminate distractions in your life, you’ll notice remarkable improvements in your personality, output and influence. Maintain your focus; be the best of you for the Lord and His eternal Kingdom.

CONFESSION
My life is for the glory of God; my attention is fixed on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of my faith! I refuse to be distracted by anyone or anything in this world, for I’m set on the course that I must follow. I’m fulfilling God’s call and purpose for my life, and always, my strength is renewed in Him. Praise God!

St. Joseph of Nazareth – Anglican Communion 19 March 2019

The Daily Fountain Daily Devotional of the Church Of Nigeria (Anglican Communion) 19 March 2019 – Job Complains To God

TOPIC: St. Joseph of Nazareth

READ: Luke 2:41-52 King James Version (KJV)

  1. His parents went to Jerusalem every year at the Feast of the Passover.
  2. And when He was twelve years old, they went up to Jerusalem according to the custom of the feast.
  3. When they had finished the days, as they returned, the Boy Jesus lingered behind in Jerusalem. And Joseph and His mother did not know it;
  4. but supposing Him to have been in the company, they went a day’s journey, and sought Him among their relatives and acquaintances.
  5. So when they did not find Him, they returned to Jerusalem, seeking Him.
  6. Now so it was that after three days they found Him in the temple, sitting in the midst of the teachers, both listening to them and asking them questions.
  7. And all who heard Him were astonished at His understanding and answers.
  8. So when they saw Him, they were amazed; and His mother said to Him, “Son, why have You done this to us? Look, Your father and I have sought You anxiously.”
  9. And He said to them, “Why did you seek Me? Did you not know that I must be about My Father’s business?”
  10. But they did not understand the statement which He spoke to them.
  11. Then He went down with them and came to Nazareth, and was subject to them, but His mother kept all these things in her heart.
  12. And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and men.

THE MESSAGE:

St. Joseph of Nazareth is being remembered today in our Communion because of the role he played in the life of our Saviour, Jesus Christ. He was the foster father of Jesus Christ here on earth and God used him to raise His Son to the age when He could become independent to carry out His ministry.

Parents have the responsibility to bring up their children in the way of the Lord so that they will fulfill God’s purpose for their lives. Our text shows how Joseph and Mary his wife took Jesus at the age twelve to Jerusalem for the feast of Passover.

By so doing, he had started early to indoctrinate into the growing child, the beliefs of his people.

Joseph and Mary while going back to their home assumed that Jesus was with them when he stayed back in the temple. This was a costly assumption. Christians must not assume that their children are with them in godly matters. Regular supervision is necessary, in terms of beliefs, holiness, mode of dressing, etc., so that we can raise a generation that is both obedient and would obtain favour from God and man, like Jesus.

Prayer: Dear Lord, give me the grace to be the Joseph of our time, Amen.

Speak Up – TREM Devotional 19 March 2019

Topic: Speak Up [TREM Devotional 19 March 2019]

“We having the same spirit of faith, according as it is written, I believed, and therefore have I spoken; we also believe, and therefore speak;” 2 Corinthians 4:13 KJV

Every believer has the spirit of faith. God gave you the spirit of faith the day you got born again. So when the enemy begins to tell you that it is not working, open your mouth and speak what you believe. That is how to hold fast your profession. Don’t let him have the final say because he will surely speak to you. Speak up! Find the promise, then pray concerning it and declare it before the devil. And keep on saying it.

Every time the devil speaks, get up and speak also. Get up and speak seven times against one of his words. You must learn to speak back! We are used to speaking to God in prayers but you must also learn to speak back to the devil whenever he starts telling you the negative. Secondly, speak to things and situations. Hold fast! Don’t let the devil have the last say in your life, in your health, in your marriage or in your business.

Our text says “We having the same spirit of faith, according as it is written, I believed, and therefore have I spoken;” It is not enough to say you believe without opening your mouth. Then in verse 16, it says: “For which cause we faint not; but though our outward man perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by day.”(KJV)

When it looks as though everything around you is falling apart, it says don’t worry, you are getting stronger inside. It is the enemy that is trying to make you look weak by the things he is throwing at you. Verse 17 says: “For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory”(KJV)

Beloved, God sees those things the enemy is throwing at you as light. And the scripture says ‘they are but for a moment…’. In other words, God is saying that it is just for a season in your life. It will pass away. It has no capacity to stop you.

Lessons from Joseph – Open Heavens for Teens 19 March 2019

Topic Lessons from Joseph [Open Heavens for Teens 19 March 2019]

Memorise: “And his master saw that the LORD was with him, and that the LORD made all that he did to prosper in his hand.” – Genesis 39:3

Read: Genesis 39:3-21

3.And his master saw that the LORD was with him, and that the LORD made all that he did to prosper in his hand.

4.And Joseph found grace in his sight, and he served him: and he made him overseer over his house, and all that he had he put into his hand.

5.And it came to pass from the time that he had made him overseer in his house, and over all that he had, that the LORD blessed the Egyptian’s house for Joseph’s sake; and the blessing of the LORD was upon all that he had in the house, and in the field.

6.And he left all that he had in Joseph’s hand; and he knew not ought he had, save the bread which he did eat. And Joseph was a goodly person, and well favoured.

7.And it came to pass after these things, that his master’s wife cast her eyes upon Joseph; and she said, Lie with me.

8.But he refused, and said unto his master’s wife, Behold, my master wotteth not what is with me in the house, and he hath committed all that he hath to my hand;

9.There is none greater in this house than I; neither hath he kept back any thing from me but thee, because thou art his wife: how then can I do this great wickedness, and sin against God?

10.And it came to pass, as she spake to Joseph day by day, that he hearkened not unto her, to lie by her, or to be with her.

11.And it came to pass about this time, that Joseph went into the house to do his business; and there was none of the men of the house there within.

12.And she caught him by his garment, saying, Lie with me: and he left his garment in her hand, and fled, and got him out.

13.And it came to pass, when she saw that he had left his garment in her hand, and was fled forth,

14.That she called unto the men of her house, and spake unto them, saying, See, he hath brought in an Hebrew unto us to mock us; he came in unto me to lie with me, and I cried with a loud voice:

15.And it came to pass, when he heard that I lifted up my voice and cried, that he left his garment with me, and fled, and got him out.

16.And she laid up his garment by her, until his lord came home.

17.And she spake unto him according to these words, saying, The Hebrew servant, which thou hast brought unto us, came in unto me to mock me:

18.And it came to pass, as I lifted up my voice and cried, that he left his garment with me, and fled out.

19.And it came to pass, when his master heard the words of his wife, which she spake unto him, saying, After this manner did thy servant to me; that his wrath was kindled.

20.And Joseph’s master took him, and put him into the prison, a place where the king’s prisoners were bound: and he was there in the prison.

21.But the LORD was with Joseph, and shewed him mercy, and gave him favour in the sight of the keeper of the prison.

Bible In One Year: Deuteronomy 33-34, Luke 1:24-56

MESSAGE:

In Egypt, Joseph went through many sufferings. However, he eventually triumphed.

Lesson 1: Integrity. Joseph never compromised his stand as a child of God. Even when everything was working against him, he didn’t use that as an excuse to stop obeying God. He made sure to always do what was right even when no one was there to monitor him.

Lesson 2: Doing the right thing won’t always lead to a good outcome immediately. When Potiphar’s wife asked Joseph to lie with her, he fled, and that landed him in prison. Joseph did the right thing, but this did not instantly lead to something good. As a child of God, you must be prepared for the reality of our faith. Even Jesus suffered unbearably for sins He didn’t commit, know that doing the right thing may bring trouble and sufferings to you but do it anyway.

Lesson 3: God makes all things work together for the good of those that love His children. When you study the story of Joseph, you will see that God never forsakes His children. No matter how bad things get, at the end of the day, you will realise that every situation linked together to bring you to a beautiful end.

Action Point:Study the story of Joseph personally and write down other lessons you learn

Hymn 2:

1. When we walk with the Lord in the light of His Word,
What a glory He sheds on our way!
While we do His good will,
He abides with us still,
And with all who will trust and obey.

Chorus:
Trust and obey, for theres no other way
To be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey.

2. Not a shadow can rise, not a cloud in the skies,
But His smile quickly drives it away;
Not a doubt or a fear, not a sigh or a tear,
Can abide while we trust and obey.

3.Not a burden we bear, not a sorrow we share,
But our toil He doth richly repay;
Not a grief or a loss, not a frown or a cross,
But is blessed if we trust and obey.

4. But we never can prove the delights of His love
Until all on the altar we lay;
For the favor He shows, for the joy He bestows,
Are for them who will trust and obey.

5. Then in fellowship sweet we will sit at His feet,
Or we’ll walk by His side in the way;
What He says we will do, where He sends we will go;
Never fear, only trust and obey.

Seeds of Destiny 19 March 2019 Devotional – The Key to Divine Health

Topic: The Key to Divine Health [Seeds of Destiny 19 March 2019 Devotional]

New light from God’s Word introduces new life from God into our lives.

SCRIPTURE: My son, attend to my words; incline thine ear unto my sayings. Let them not depart from thine eyes; keep them in the midst of thine heart. For they are life unto those that find them, and health to all their flesh. Proverbs 4:20-23.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: New light from God’s Word introduces new life from God into our lives.

It is very important to know that the will of God for His Children is for them to live in abundant health (3 John 1:2). We are created in the Image of a sickless and sickness-free God (Genesis 1:26); so, it is not the will of God for us to be sick and weak in life and destiny. We do not beg to be healthy; rather, Divine health is ours by heritage.

Now, how do we live in perfect and abundant health?

In Psalm 107:20, the Bible says, He sent his word, and healed them, and delivered them from their destructions.

It is very clear that one key to living in Divine health is a steady diet of the Word of God. A steady diet of the word keeps you in health. Let me give you a physical example: Every time you digest protein, you get amino acids as the end product of digestion. Also, every time you digest carbohydrates, you get glucose as the end product, and every time you digest fat, you get lipids, lipo-proteins, fatty acids. In the same way, every time you digest the Word of God, you gain Divine life or receive the injection of divine life. The Word of God is life (John 6:63, Proverb 4:22). We are healed and free from the destruction of diseases and death when we receive the word of God (Psalm 107:20). So, new light from God’s Word introduces new life from God into our lives. New light equals new life because in Him was life and the life was the light of men (John 1:5).

Beloved, my counsel is, make up your mind to walk in this revelation and you would be lively, active and healthy in life.

Remember this: New light from God’s Word introduces new life from God into our lives.

ASSIGNMENTS:

MFM Daily Devotional 19 March 2019 – Abuse and Misuse of the Telephone

MFM Mountain Top Life Daily Devotional 19 March 2019 By Dr. D.K Olukoya – Abuse and Misuse of the Telephone

TOPIC: Abuse and Misuse of the Telephone (Mountain Of Fire and Miracle Ministries, MFM Daily Devotional 19 March 2019)

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: Joshua 1-3; Mark 16

FIRE SCRIPTURE: Ephesians 4:17-24

MEMORY VERSE: “But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.” – Revelation 21:8

The MESSAGE:

A lie is a lie. There are no small lies and big lies. It is common nowadays to hear someone in Lagos telling the other person on the phone that he is in Abuja. That is indiscipline.

A very close friend of mine once told me of a screaming story which bordered on the use of communication gadgets to tell lies. He and some passengers were travelling from Lagos to Abuja by road. It happened that a fellow passenger who sat next to him did not spare a second in finding and using his phone to call and discuss with his people. When they got to Ore in Ondo State, the bus driver stopped for a while in order for the passengers to relax and ease themselves. After this period, the journey continued. Along the way, some armed bandits waylaid their vehicle and every passenger was rough handled. All the men were taken away including the one who used his phone to draw people’s attention. Meanwhile, he had used his phone to deceive his immediate elder and only brother. He had lied that their bus was in Ibadan, when actually they were in Ore. Their abductors ceased all their phones, took them to a spot in the jungle, but only provided them with a phone with which they all called their relations. When our friend, Brother John called his brother, the brother dismissed the message saying that the voice was not his brother’s and that his was not in Ore but in Ibadan.

The brother dropped his phone and went to sleep. While others were released after meeting the laid down conditions, Brother John could not bail himself until after three solid days when his abductors visited pity on him, stripped him of all his belongings and flogged him well. He would not have gone through all the harrowing experience if he had not told lies to his brother initially that he was in Ibadan. As a Christian, John ought to have embraced discipline as a Christian way of life. Beloved, honesty is an important Christian discipline. Let your Yes be Yes, and let your No be No.

MOTIVATIONAL QUOTE:
HONESTY MEANS BEING FAITHFUL AND TRUTHFUL AT ALL TIMES.

PROPHETIC WORD:
The words of your mouth will always glorify God.

PRAYER POINTS:

MORNING

  1. Father, let unnecessary distractions in my life die, in the name of Jesus.
  2. All evil diversions in my way, be destroyed, in the name of Jesus.
  3. Any plan of the devil to use my property to destroy me, scatter, in the name of Jesus.
    EVENING
  4. Father Lord, pave way for me where there is no way, in the name of Jesus.
  5. I will not be a distraction for others, in the name of Jesus.
  6. Father Lord, help me not to walk in the way of sinners, in the name of Jesus.
  7. Every evil bird flying for my sake, crashland, in the name of Jesus.

DCLM Daily Manna 19 March 2019 – A Better Day

Topic: A Better Day [DCLM Daily Manna 19 March 2019 Daily Devotional by Pastor William Folorunso Kumuyi]

Text: Isaiah 35:1-10 (KJV)

Key Verse: “And the ransomed of the LORD shall return, and come to Zion with songs and everlasting joy upon their heads: they shall obtain joy and gladness, and sorrow and sighing shall flee away” (Isaiah 35:10).

MESSAGE:

Since the fall of Adam and Eve in the garden of Eden, the world has not got rest. There is prevalence of evil and wickedness, ranging from family coups, inter-tribal wars, civil war, cold war, world war, international war, sicknesses and diseases, political insurrections, economic and social problems, natural disasters, abominable and unimaginable occurrences of kidnapping, homosexuality, ritual killing, cannibalism, armed robbery and assassination, environmental pollution and operational disasters.

The good news, however, is that evil will not continue forever. Our text foreshadows Christ’s millennial reign. It will be a time of monumental recoveries, spiritual joy, encouragement, victory over enemies of God’s children, and restoration of sight to the blind. This glorious event will certainly take place. Although, at the moment, the United Nations and some other agencies are trying their best to ensure social peace around the world, their efforts yield little or no results.

There can never be true peace in this present world until Christ’s millennial reign. Besides, some of these events are even signals that Christ will soon come and that the world will soon come to an end, thus, ushering in the glorious reign of our Lord Jesus Christ.

For anyone to partake in this glorious Kingdom, he must have accepted Christ as personal Lord and Saviour, and daily live to please Him. Remaining steadfast in holiness and righteousness will afford us the opportunity of going in the rapture when Christ comes.

Thought For The Day – Don’t despair: better days are ahead.
