The MESSAGE:

Serving both God and mammon and still referring to oneself as a Christian is the greatest indiscipline before God. I have often heard people say, “Olorun ko ko aajo” which means, “God does not abhor being fetish!” Many Christians who claim to be born again would tell others that, it is not only prayers that one should rely upon because it takes time before prayers bring in results and that if such prayers are cushioned with “extra assistance”, the result is always spontaneous. There are professed Christians, who belong to cult societies like Ogboni, Osugbo, Awo-opa, Lodge societies, displaying their uniforms and paraphernalia right among the church congregation, during church service where the name of Jesus is being invoked.

The Yorubas would admonish that, it is good to feed one time in the Oro grove and at another time in the masquerade grove. Why not face one direction? The story of Peter, a Christian brother, who out of indiscipline allowed greed and the get rich quick behaviour to write the last chapter of his life, is easily remembered. Peter was a prominent member of a Pentecostal church in Lagos. He was even a Sunday school teacher before he met his waterloo when he went to do “money producing charm”. He was always complaining of getting broke before his close friend who was in the same teaching profession with him. He would complain that his salaries would not last one week, let alone see him through the month. Eventually, another friend introduced him to a demonic man who made money-producing charm for him.

The consequences of the charm were shielded for exposed. He was not only told that the efficacy of the charm would be for three years. He was not told that his life would equally expire with the charm. Within two years, he was able to get all he had been longing for: expensive cars, houses and all the nice things of life. He even abandoned all church activities, embraced worldly things and was only attending church services, occasionally. He also resigned from his teaching job and was honoured with chieftaincy titles by many traditional rulers. His wedding was the talk of the entire town because there was none like that before. By the beginning of the third year, Peter started experiencing strange illness and was carried from one hospital to the other.

The cause of his illness could not be detected. Unknown to Peter, his soul was tied to the money charm he did. As the power of the medicine was receding, so also his own life. Just before the third year, Peter became paralysed and died eventually. He did not live to enjoy his Ill-gotten wealth due to indiscipline. He allowed indiscipline to destroy his Christian life and regretted in the end.

Topic: Confidence in God [DCLM Daily Manna 16 March 2019 Daily Devotional by Pastor William Folorunso Kumuyi]

Text: Isaiah 8:9-22 (KJV)

Key Verse: “Take counsel together, and it shall come to nought; speak the word, and it shall not stand: for God is with us” (Isaiah 8:10).

MESSAGE:

D.L. Moody once said, “Trust in yourself, and you are doomed to disappointment; trust in your friends, and they will die and leave you; trust in money, and you may have it taken from you; trust in reputation, and some slanderous tongue may blast it; but trust in God, and you are never to be confounded in time or eternity”.

In our passage today, the Lord sent Isaiah to reassure Judah that the conspiracy of Israel with Syria against her would fail. He therefore wanted Judah to repose confidence in Him as Saviour and Lord. Judah should not fear the confederacy against her because He has raised Isaiah and his sons up for signs and wonders. Isaiah stated further that Judah must not seek any other God or help from familiar spirits. She must trust the Lord alone and not allow any contrary counsel or opinion to turn her away from Him.

It is not the desire of God for His children to live in fear of the enemy. In spite of the various threats and fear-generating situations around today, we must be confident and hopeful. He wants us to have confidence in Him and trust His word in every situation. To gain confidence in Him, we must “Bind up the testimony, seal the law among [His] disciples”. Our confidence in the word of God must be resolute and sound.

Whatever the devil may bring on your way today has been covered by the promise of the Lord. He has promised to deliver you. He delivered His people who waited on Him. And He will still deliver His children who trust and believe His word continually. As you go out in the confidence he has given in His word today, you can be sure that He will take care of you and save you completely.

Topic: Profits of Dedication to the Word of God [Seeds of Destiny 16 March 2019 Devotional]

The Word of God builds confidence, strength, energy, resilience and tenacity.

SCRIPTURE: But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God. Matthew 4:4.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: The Word of God builds confidence, strength, energy, resilience and tenacity.

It has been established that the Word of God is necessary in the life of a Christian as a mark of dedication to God. From our anchor Scripture, our Lord Jesus Christ makes it clear that we are designed to live by the Word of God (Matthew 4:4). God expects us to live by every Word that proceeds from His Mouth. This means, there is profit in reading and studying the Word.

Now, what are the profits of dedication to the Word of God?

i. The Word of God builds strength and energy

According to God’s Word, young men are strong because the Word of God abides in them (1 John 2:14). Beloved, you cannot be weak if you are Worded. You cannot be a weakling; that is, living in the state of being pursued by the devil, if you have the Word of God. This is because the Word of God builds confidence, strength, energy, resilience and tenacity.

ii. The Word of God builds hope

God’s Word keeps your hope alive. You are delivered from discouragement by the Word of God (Psalms 119:49, Psalm 119:81, Psalm 119:114, Psalm 130:5).

Beloved, every time you are in a situation where your mind begins to faint or shake, trust God for a Word out of Scripture. God can speak to you in different ways; at times, it may be a phrase like, ‘…no temptation has taken you…’ Then you can read the full text of the word from the Scripture in 1 Corinthians 10:31. As you read, something from the verse would make you rise up like a lion and your faith is built to face the battle.

Remember this: The Word of God builds confidence, strength, energy, resilience and tenacity.

ASSIGNMENT:

1. Make up your mind to build your hope in God by studying the Word of God continually.

PRAYER: O Lord, I ask that You help me to put my faith in You alone. Strengthen me through Your Word, Lord in Jesus’ Name.

MESSAGE:

Communication is a very important part of our lives as humans. No one can survive on earth without interacting with fellow humans. Talking is so commonly placed that most of us have forgotten how powerful our words are. The words you speak can never be taken back once you utter them; you have to live with the consequences. This is why it is foolish not to think before you speak. Matthew 12:36 says we will be held accountable for every idle word we speak. In other words, you are responsible for making sure that every word you utter is for a good purpose.

Your words must be true. As a child of God, lies must be far from your mouth. You must discipline yourself to speak the truth no matter the cost and no matter whose presence you are in. your words must be kind. Some people are known for always speaking harsh words under the guise that they are blunt. Your words must be soft even when you are correcting someone. If your words are not intended to give solution to a problem and make the situation better or inspire someone to be better, then do not bother uttering them.

Key Point: Talk only when it is necessary.

Open Heaven 16 March 2019 Saturday MESSAGE:

When you look at the situation of many people in the world today, one is prone to forget that God did not create man to be a victim of circumstance. According to the eternal word of God which is true, man was actually created to be master over circumstances (Genesis 1:26-30). What then is responsible for the sorry state mankind is in today? Well, when man yielded to sin through disobedience, sin suppressed him, placed him under the control of circumstances. However, the good news is that over two thousand years ago, this situation was reversed by Jesus Christ, the Savior of mankind, and all who are willing to tap into God’s provision for escape through Him can once again become masters over all circumstances today. Today’s Bible reading makes it clear that ruling over circumstances is our heritage as children of God. Understanding the truths in these scripture verses holds some keys of living above circumstances indeed. The first truth is that sin attacked the righteousness that man inherited from the One whose image he carried, and so he became subject to circumstances. Secondly, only when walking in the righteousness that emanates from God can anyone be established and put in charge of all circumstances. It’s from this reason that the eternal word of God says in Proverb 14:34:

“Righteousness exalteth a nation: but sin is a reproach to any people.”

Sin enslaves but righteousness liberates. The story was told of two domestic workers named John and Moses. One day, john killed one of his maser’s ducks by accident. Though he buried it to cover up his mistake, Moses knew about it. Consequently, Moses began to torment John because of his sin and blackmailed him to do the chores meant for both of them. Eventually, the burden became unbearable for John. Unknown to Moses, John decided to confess his sin to his master, which he did. To his great surprise, his master forgave him and counseled him to be careful whenever he was taking care of the rest of the ducks. Moses woke up the following day thinking it was business as usual, not knowing that John had been set free. When Moses threatened to report John to their master about the slain duck, John told him that he had confessed it already and had been forgiven. Many people are under the bondage and condemnation of the devil today because they are still trying to cover their sins. The only way to be free is to acknowledge your sins, confess them and accept the righteousness that has been made available for you through Jesus Christ (Roman 10:3). The Bible says that we shall be established through the righteousness that Jesus Christ bestows upon us, and no weapon formed against us shall prosper. What a blessed assurance! Turn to God today through Jesus Christ our Lord, and you will become a master over all circumstances.
