TOPIC: Speaking with New Tongues

OPENING PRAYER: Father, grant me grace to be filled with signs and wonders. (Scroll down for RCCG Sunday School 10 March 2019 HYMN)

MEMORY VERSE: “And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues;” – Mark 16:17 (scroll down for RCCG Sunday School 10 March 2019 HYMN)

BIBLE PASSAGE: Acts 19:1-6 KJV (RCCG Sunday School TEACHER’s Manual 10 March 2019)

1 And it came to pass, that, while Apollos was at Corinth, Paul having passed through the upper coasts came to Ephesus: and finding certain disciples,

2 He said unto them, Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed? And they said unto him, We have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost.

3 And he said unto them, Unto what then were ye baptized? And they said, Unto John’s baptism.

4 Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus.

5 When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.

6 And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them; and they spake with tongues, and prophesied.

LESSON INTRODUCTION:

Our Lord Jesus Christ declared that the ability to speak with a new tongue shall be one of the signs that follow everyone who believes in Him (Mark 16:17). While every believer receives the Holy Spirit at the point of their conversion (Acts 2:38), believers are expected to continue to thirst and hunger for the infilling of the Holy Spirit (Luke 24:49). In this lesson we shall attempt to answer some of the mind boggling questions about speaking in an unknown tongue and its benefits.

TEXT REVIEW: ACTS 19:1-6.

The procedures for receiving the Holy Spirit baptism was clearly stated in Acts 19:1-6. These are stated below:

i. Hearing the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ and believing it (the twelve people in Acts 19:1 were disciples, which means, they had heard and believed the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ).

ii. The next procedure is water baptism. They were baptised (Acts 19:3-5). Note the word, “baptism of repentance” in Acts 19:4. Those who genuinely want the baptism of the Holy Spirit must have genuinely repented their sins.

iii. Then comes the baptism of the Holy Spirit. The Baptism of the Holy Spirit has occurred through the following:

a. Waiting on the Lord in unity for his promise (Acts 2:1). The Holy Spirit came like a rushing wind (Acts 2:2). They spoke in tongues. Acts 2:4.

b. Waiting to hear the Word of God from the mouth of Peter. The Holy Spirit came while Peter was yet speaking. Acts 10:33,44

c. Paul laid hands on people who were disciples (who heard the gospel) and they received the Holy Spirit and spoke with tongues. Acts 19:6.

iv. In the three instances stated under item 3, “speaking in tongues” was a constant evidence of the outpouring of the Holy Spirit.

v. No ritual or trick was required. No money was paid or offered. It is a free gift. Acts 8:20

2 LESSON OUTLINES

LESSON OUTLINE 1: NEW TONGUES AND THEIR DISTINCTIONS

A. Meaning of “New Tongues”

i. It is the ability to speak in an unknown language different from the mother tongue of the speaker.

ii. The Holy Spirit gives the speaker the utterance and therefore it is not a learned or copied or bought language. Acts 2:4b

iii. It is the outward mark of the overflow of the Holy Spirit in the lives of believers. Acts 2:4a

iv. Every believer is expected to speak in “new tongue”. Acts 19:6

v. Speaking in tongue is speaking mysteries of God. 1 Cor. 14:2

II. Distinction between New tongue and “Diverse Kinds of Tongues”

i. There is another gift called the diverse kinds of tongues and interpretation of tongues. 1 Cor. 12:10

ii. This gift may not be received by all believers. 1 Cor. 14:18

iii. Some believers can receive both gifts of speaking in new tongues and diverse kinds of tongues.

iv. God speaks to the church through diverse kinds of tongues with an interpreter (Another gift of the Holy Spirit. Acts 12:10). So that the church can be edified. 1 Cor. 12:11; 14:5

v. Speaking in new tongue is for self-edification while speaking in diverse kinds of tongues with interpreter is for edification of the church. Acts 14:5

vi. In the days of the Apostles, different countries languages which were not the original languages of the believers were spoken by the believers in confirmation of the gift of diverse kinds of tongues. Acts 2:7-12.

CLASS ACTIVITY 1: Why do you think some people mock those who spoke in tongues according to Acts 2:13?

LESSON OUTLINE 2: BENEFITS OF SPEAKING IN AN UNKNOWN TONGUE

i. It improves the believer’s prayer life: Supernatural ability to communicate with God effectively and intercede for others. Rom. 8:26; 1 Cor. 14:2

ii. Self-edification: it stirs up believers faith. 1 Cor. 14:4; Jude 20

iii. It is a means of yielding our tongue to God. No man can tame the tongue but God. By the Holy Spirit, the whole body can change including the tongue. James 3:8.

iv. It is a weapon of spiritual warfare. 1 Cor. 14:2

v. It refreshes our spirit and soul. Isaiah 28:11-12

vi. It assists believers to sing, praise and give thanks to God. 1 Cor. 14:15

vii. It helps believers to access divine revelations and mysteries. 1 Cor. 2:9-11

CLASS ACTIVITY 2: How can speaking in tongue help believers to witness for Christ according to Acts 1:8

SUMMARY: Speaking in tongues and diverse tongues edifies the speaker and the church.

CONCLUSION: Speaking in an unknown tongue is a fulfillment of the promise of God. It is for all believers who would not just desire it but fully tap into the benefits irrespective of their church denominations, tribes or nations.

EVALUATION: Differentiate between speaking in tongue and speaking in diverse kinds of tongues.

CLOSING PRAYER: Father, baptize me afresh with the gifts of the Holy Spirit.

ASSIGNMENT: Set apart time to pray violently this week until you receive afresh the baptism of the Holy Spirit.

Rhapsody of Realities 8 March 2019 – Stand Up For Jesus

Rhapsody of Realities 8 March 2019 By Pastor Chris Oyakhilome – Stand Up For Jesus

Topic: Stand Up For Jesus

For the LORD is our judge, the LORD is our lawgiver, the LORD is our king; he will save us (Isaiah 33:22).

The Bible says Jesus has been placed “high above all other government and authority and power and dominion, and every title of sovereignty used either in this Age or in the Age to come” (Ephesians 1:21 WNT). For that reason, it makes no difference what the title is; be it President, Prime Minister, President General, Chief Judge, etc., Jesus is above them all. He’s above every title of sovereignty and government. Now, what does this mean for the Church?

Also Read: The Word Encounter by Pastor David Ibiyeomie

Remember, He’s the head, and the Church is His body; He and the Church are one; we go by the same name. Thus, in union with Him, the Church is above, and has a say in, any and every government in this world. Therefore, those who think the Church is helpless, beggarly, and weak, must think again. Read our opening scripture; it says, “For the LORD is our judge (that’s the Judiciary) , the LORD is our lawgiver (that’s the legislature) , the LORD is our king (that’s the executive) ….”

Jesus and the Church have a say in every arm of government. He’s the Judge, the Lawgiver, and the King! Have these in your mind, and stand up for Jesus and the Church everywhere, irrespective of the opposition. If you stand up for Him, He’ll stand for you.

Jesus said, “…All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth” (Matthew 28:18). Then in the next verse, He said, on the basis and authority of that power, “Go ye therefore, and teach all nations….” Your country isn’t left out; you have authority in His Name. Read also what He said in Matthew 28:20, “…lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen.”

Refuse to be intimidated by any law, regulation, or policies that are against the Gospel; keep serving the Lord faithfully. But control and influence the government and leaders in your prayers and the exercise of spiritual authority in the Name of Jesus Christ.

CONFESSION
The Lord is my salvation; I’ll trust and not be afraid, for He’s my strength, my song and my refuge. The Gospel is prospering in, and through me, penetrating the hearts of men, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.

Are You Offended With God by Pastor David Ibiyeomie

Are You Offended With God by Pastor David Ibiyeomie

Topic: Are You Offended With God

Matt.11: 6 – And blessed is he, whosoever shall not be offended in me.

Offense is simply a negative reaction to an unpleasant situation. John the Baptist was offended because he was in prison and Jesus did nothing about it.

John the Baptist was utterly loyal to Jesus. He walked a life of total self-denial. He gave everything up for his God. And now he finds himself in a cold prison.

We have no record that the Lord ever visited him there. So John is questioning and doubting. He’s probably thinking, “Was it really worth it? I lived my whole life to pave the way for the Messiah, and now I’m in prison. The kingdom hasn’t yet come.” He became offended and he lost his life in the end. When he sent his disciples to ask Jesus if He is truly the messiah, Jesus responded by pointing out all the miracles that were wrought through Him.

Matt.11:4-6 -Jesus answered and said unto them, Go and shew John again those things which ye do hear and see: 5 The blind receive their sight, and the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, and the deaf hear, the dead are raised up, and the poor have the gospel preached to them. 6 And blessed is he, whosoever shall not be offended in me.

Over the years, I’ve watched Christians take offense with the Lord. Some of them were passionate followers of Jesus but later ended up renouncing Him. Why? Because they chose to be offended by Him. Don’t ever be offended with God because HE is ever faithful.

God can never be at fault; it is futility to be offended with your creator. If you are offended with your fellow man, God can step in but if you are now offended with God, who do you think will step in?

He is I AM; He does not change. Even if you decide not to serve Him again, it will not change who He is. When you are offended with God, you are still the one that will lose because you will incur His wrath.

Apostle Paul found himself in a similar situation with John the Baptist but he did not get offended; rather, he praised God and there was a divine intervention to set him free.

Acts 16:25-26 -And at midnight Paul and Silas prayed, and sang praises unto God: and the prisoners heard them. 26 And suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken: and immediately all the doors were opened, and every one’s bands were loosed.

Instead of getting offended with God because of that situation, praise Him in the midst of that challenge and you will see His great hand of deliverance. From today, as you praise God despite that challenge, it will turn to a testimony in the name of Jesus-Amen!

God bless you

Seeds of Destiny 8 March 2019 Devotional – The Devotion of Daniel

Topic: The Devotion of Daniel [Seeds of Destiny 8 March 2019 Devotional]

Dedicated People study Scriptures in order to discover God and fresh light in deeper dimensions.

SCRIPTURE: Now when Daniel knew that the writing was signed, he went into his house; and his windows being open in his chamber toward Jerusalem, he kneeled upon his knees three times a day, and prayed, and gave thanks before his God, as he did aforetime. Daniel 6:10.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: To study the Scripture superficially in order to fulfil all righteousness is not a mark of dedication to God.

Daniel was one personality in Scriptures who cannot be easily ignored as far as devotion and dedication to God is concerned. His devotion to God made him to purpose in his heart not to defile himself with the king’s food. (Daniel 1:8). You see, dedication to God keeps people from the defilements of life.

Now, how do we know Daniel was devoted to God? The Bible says that it was his custom to pray three times a day (Daniel 6:10). Beloved, a person naturally gives time and attention to anything he is devoted to. Daniel gave time to God at the place of prayer; he prayed three times a day as a mark of unbending devotion and dedication to God.

Yesterday, we saw that David had a rigid schedule of praying three times a day, and today, we also see Daniel with the same schedule of praying three times a day. This is a confirmation of the fact that to be truly dedicated to God, a person must have a solid and steadfast prayer schedule.

Apart from the rigid schedule of prayer, Daniel was also a man of the Word. Daniel was deeply acquainted with Scriptures; he ransacked the Book of Jeremiah to a point where he found out the time when the captivity of his people in Babylon was to end (Daniel 9:2, Jeremiah 25:11, 12; 29:10). Beloved, dedicated people have voracious appetite for God’s Word; they study scriptures to the point of seeing and discovering what no one had ever seen in the Scriptures.

Beloved, to study the Scripture superficially in order to fulfil all righteousness is not a mark of dedication to God. Dedicated People study Scriptures in order to discover God and fresh light in deeper dimensions.

Remember this: To study the Scripture superficially in order to fulfil all righteousness is not a mark of dedication to God.

  2. Make up your mind to follow your schedule rigidly whether it is convenient or not.

MFM Daily Devotional 8 March 2019 – My Anchor in Financial Storm

MFM Mountain Top Life Daily Devotional 8 March 2019 By Dr. D.K Olukoya – My Anchor in Financial Storm

TOPIC: My Anchor in Financial Storm (Mountain Of Fire and Miracle Ministries, MFM Daily Devotional 8 March 2019)

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: Deuteronomy 4-6; Mark 11:1-18

FIRE SCRIPTURE: Acts 27:29-30, 40

MEMORY VERSE: “I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.” – Philippians 4:13

The MESSAGE:

An anchor is a heavy iron on a ship cast overboard to hold the vessel in a particular place. Whatever is fastened to an anchor is secured. Its holding power is well tested. The Bible calls it sure and steadfast and was used to describe the promises of God to us. The strong and dependable promises of God, serve as an anchor to our fears in all storms of life.

A storm is a violent disturbance of the atmosphere with strong winds and rain and often accompanied with thunder and lightning. One good example in the Bible is the shipwreck at Malta during Paul’s last journey to Rome. The storm destroyed the ship they sailed in, gulped all their goods and would have killed everyone on board but for the mercy of God. The anchor was used to secure the remaining part of the ship from drifting. This is the consequence of disobedience as Paul had warned the ship’s captain not to set sail from Fair Havens. The journey was a total disaster financially. I pray that disobedience will not torpedo your finances, in Jesus’ name. From this picture, we can safely describe financial storm as a tragedy, a disaster, a waster, a thief, a stubborn enemy, a robber of good things, a destroyer of prosperity and so on.

Financial storm brings loss and can paralyse the foundation of one’s prosperity. It can shorten one’s life. Many young entrepreneurs have died suddenly because of financial storms. As Paul and his co-travellers were saved by God from the Mediterranean storm, He also saves His children from financial storms. He is our Anchor in all storms of life.

However, the anchor is not available to everybody. If you are not in Christ, you cannot have access to the anchor. In a financial storm, you can be swept away if you are not in Christ.

What can the Anchor do for you in financial storm?

First, He will make sure you survive the storm. Secondly, you will recover what you might have lost and more. In addition, new doors of financial breakthrough will be opened to you. Lastly, people will envy your financial increase.

How do you access the Anchor during financial storm?

  1. Be born again.
  2. Be honest in all your business.
  3. Contribute regularly to church projects.
  4. Bless your ministers in any way you can.
  5. Pay your tithes and offerings unfailingly.

Beloved, I pray that Jesus will be your Anchor all the time.

MOTIVATIONAL QUOTE:
JESUS IS MY ANCHOR IN ANY FINANCIAL STORM.

PROPHETIC WORD:
Financial storm will not overwhelm your life.

PRAYER POINTS:

MORNING

  1. My anchor will hold on any financial storm, in the name of Jesus.
  2. Financial bankruptcy, clear away from my path, in the name of Jesus.
  3. Financial storm shall not swallow me, in the name of Jesus.
    EVENING
  4. O Lord, help me to be transparent in all my businesses, in the name of Jesus.
  5. Power of financial storm, loose your hold over my finances, in the name of Jesus.
  6. Powers planning to devour my finances, devour yourselves, in the name of Jesus.
  7. My Anchor, keep my soul in the storms of life, in the name of Jesus.

DCLM Daily Manna 8 March 2019 – Cry Of The Righteous

Topic: Cry Of The Righteous [DCLM Daily Manna 8 March 2019 Daily Devotional by Pastor William Folorunso Kumuyi]

Text: Psalm 17:1-15 (KJV)

Key Verse: “Shew thy marvellous lovingkindness, O thou that savest by thy right hand them which put their trust in thee from those that rise up against them” (Psalm 17:7).

MESSAGE:

The missionary to China, Jonathan Goforth (1859-1936), met a very hostile community which attempted, on several occasions, to destroy him and his family. But each time they came, they met so many armed soldiers guarding the compound with some on the rooftop. It was not until these villagers started getting converted and demanding to know the whereabouts of the “soldiers” that the man of God realised that God did send angels as armed soldiers to guide his family in times of danger. David’s petition to God was as a result of the wicked that oppressed him and the deadly enemies who compassed him about (verse 9). Having established that God knew his heart to be right and that he had obeyed the word of God and walked in His way, he proceeded to ask Him for protection from the hand of the wicked. He pleaded that God should keep him as the apple of His eye while asking for the defeat and destruction of those enemies.

Righteousness is a great asset that gives the true believer boldness in prayer. Abraham’s righteousness and prayer made him to secure the lives of Lot and his family from the destruction of Sodom. Moses’ prayer averted the annihilation of Israel when God wanted to wipe them out of their idolatry. Joshua, through his right standing with God, was able to stop the sun and moon for one whole day.

Spending days and weeks on “mountains” in endless prayers will get very little or no results without righteousness. However, through faith in the finished work of Christ at Calvary, a sinner can become the righteousness of God in Christ, because righteousness is imputed when Christ is received as Lord and Saviour. The believer’s righteous life is the proof that he has become a “new creature” in Christ. God will always answer the cries of the righteous and deliver him out of his afflictions.

Thought For The Day: Righteousness is the evidence of genuine salvation.

Memorise: “If a man say, I love God, and hateth his brother, he is a liar: for he that loveth not his brother whom he hath seen, how can he love God whom he hath not seen?” – 1 John 4:20

Read: Matthew 22:36-40

1.Master, which is the great commandment in the law?

2.Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.

3.This is the first and great commandment.

And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.

4.On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.

Bible In One Year: Deuteronomy 5-7, Mark 12:1-27

MESSAGE:

As Christians, our driving force and life summation is love. We were saved from our sins by God’s love and through that love, we are being sustained. In simple terms, we are presently who and what we are because God loves us. As it is with humans, God wants His unconditional love to be reciprocal. It is God’s desire that His children love Him back and live their lives expressing that love to Him daily.

Expressing love isn’t just about saying ‘I love you’, the best way to express your love is through your actions. If you indeed love someone, you will give gifts to that person, spend quality time with that person, speak beautiful words to/about that person, and voluntarily agree to help that person anytime the need arises. With this explanation, you will realize that loving God can prove a bit complicated because He is invisible. This is why His words say it is impossible to hate a man that you can see and then profess to love Him that you cannot see. One of the proofs that you truly love God is that you love everyone around you. Because of your good neighbourliness, people should be able to attest beyond any shadow of doubt that you are a child of God.

Prayer Point:

Lord, I love you with all my heart, please teach me to show you that love by the way I treat others.

1.Is your life a channel of blessing?
Is the love of God flowing through you?
Are you telling the lost of the Savior?
Are you ready His service to do?

Chorus:
Make me a channel of blessing today,
Make me a channel of blessing, I pray;
My life possessing, my service blessing,
Make me a channel of blessing today.

2.Is your life a channel of blessing?
Are you burdened for those that are lost?
Have you urged upon those who are straying
The Savior who does on the cross

3.Is your life a channel of blessing?
Is it a daily telling for Him?
Have you spoken the word of salvation?
To those who are dying in sin?

4.We cannot be channels of blessing
If our lives are not free from sin;
We will barriers be and a hindrance
To those we are trying to win.

Minnesota Christian University Cancels Pro-Life Speaker, Says Her Views Are ‘Sensationalized’

A Minnesota Christian college canceled a scheduled speaking engagement with a pro-life speaker noting that her views were “sensationalized.”

According to CBN News, The University of Northwestern at St. Paul’s Young Americans for Freedom chapter (YAF) invited popular pro-life speaker Star Parker to come to campus for an open event.

Parker is a conservative social and political advocate, the founder of the Center for Urban Renewal and Education (CURE) and a born again-Christian.

Despite months of planning, after college administrators looked into Parker, they decided to cancel the event. The administration told the University of Northwestern YAF members in an email that their “main concern is that it is an open event.” Administrators indicated that if the event was closed to club members only, “it would be different.”

“Speakers open to all UNW students would have more strictness,” they added

The administration also informed the YAF members that they found Stars views to be radical. In an email to the group they wrote, “Our staff has been very adamant about bringing speakers to campus who educate and expand worldviews, but we really don’t bring speakers who radically hold beliefs that UNW as a whole would not agree with.”

The email continued, “In the past UNW has stayed away from sensationalized speakers. I foresee us…

Hamas TV Station Calls for ‘Death to Israel,’ Israel Declares it a ‘Terrorist Organization’

Hamas TV Station Calls for ‘Death to Israel,’ Israel Declares it a ‘Terrorist Organization’

Benjamin Netanyahu, the Israeli prime minister and defense minister, signed a declaration this week that calls a Hamas TV channel a “terrorist organization.”

The Israel Security Apparatus and the Defense Ministry said the Hamas TV channel, “Al Aqsa,” was using the station “to recruit militants to its ranks.”

The ISA said Palestinian broadcasters and journalists were using cues on the air to try to recruit Palestinians with Israeli ID cards to carry out attacks from inside Israel.

“Declaring Al-Asqa TV a terror organization is a precise labeling,” said Itamar Marcus, director of Palestinian Media Watch (PMW), a media watchdog group.

“Al-Asqa TV promotes all the components of Palestinian terror, including murder of Jews, suicide bombings, kidnapping of soldiers, bombing our cities and destruction of Israel.”

In one recording of the station, a Hamas music video aired on the channel and said, “Strap on an explosive belt … O Martyrdom-seeker, respond to Al-Aqsa’s call… send them to Hell… Let fire burn them, turn them into body parts, roast them.”
