Topic: Dominion In Your Family Life (Part 1)

Dear Reader,

Happy New Month and welcome to another fulfilling edition of Family Life. Our focus for this month shall be on “Dominion in Your Family Life”. I will like to start by saying that dominion in your family life is absolutely possible. Every child of God has a heritage of dominion in life and that includes you. The Bible says: And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion… (Genesis 1:28). God gave man the power to dominate from the beginning; this shows that dominion is God’s will for you in your family life. There is so much good for us all in our marriages, families, spouses, children, businesses, finance, careers, etc., but the Bible says it is only for the obedient. If ye be willing and obedient, ye shall eat the good of the land (Isaiah 1:19). Whatever the Word of God tells you to do, do it! There is a reward in obedience. My prayer is that as you purpose in your heart to obey God, you will see His outstretched arm in every aspect of your family, giving you dominion, in Jesus’ name!

What is Dominion?

Dominion means being in charge, in control, and in command. As you are created for dominion, so also is your family. To have dominion in your family means being in control, in charge and in command of all that the environment, society, economy, etc., have to offer. How then can I be in charge you may ask? The Bible says in Isaiah 60:1: Arise, shine; for thy light has come, and the glory of the Lord is risen upon thee. God says, “Arise”. It is a commandment. It does not depend on your feeling or ability. God is telling you to arise from the previous failures and woes in your family. Shake your feet from the dust. As a family, put an end to recounting your losses in the past years. Arise in obedience. Rise up from within you and God shall strengthen you.

In Genesis 26:12: Then Isaac sowed in that land, and received in the same year a hundredfold: and the Lord blessed him. It was a time of famine, hardship, woes, and economic recession. However, the Word of God came to Isaac and he arose and took action. You can see the results he obtained.

How do you arise or exercise dominion?

Spiritually

It takes light to shine, and light comes by the Word of God (Psalm 119:130). It is what you do with His Word in your family that will determine how much dominion your family will exercise. Husbands, you are the head of the home; sit down with the Word this year, and give meaningful direction to your household. Don’t go about like a mule and horse without understanding. Enough of foolishness! Your family must become an envy of everyone around you this year. Locate the direction for your family in the Word and no devil can stop your family from exercising dominion. Arise, don’t starve spiritually. Until you arise, there can’t be a lifting up and without a lifting up, there is no dominion.

• Arise in your prayer life to live an overcomer’s life (James 5:16)
• Arise in the study of the Word to avoid shame (2 Timothy 2:15)
• Arise and Christ shall give you light

Remember, obedience is the master key to dominion. Your level of obedience and dedication to God and His Word will determine how much you will enjoy dominion. Wife, arise from your downcast position. The Bible says: Arise and thresh, O daughter of Zion: for I will make thine horn iron, and I will make thy hoofs brass: and thou shalt beat in pieces many people: and I will consecrate their gain unto the Lord, and their substance unto the Lord of the whole earth (Micah 4:13). Don’t let spiritual laziness destroy or rob you of what God has in store for your life and family. Turn to the substance of the Word and stop chasing after shadows. You are born to shine; don’t die a shadow! Make God your focus; make His Word your priority.

Physically

The Lord wants to do a new thing in your life. Therefore, destroy the spirit of heaviness. Look straight ahead and see that glorious family God intend for you. The Bible says: Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; shall ye not know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert (Isaiah 43:1). Arise! That business deal that didn’t come through last year, that plan that never worked out last year, that thing you couldn’t do last year because of financial constraints, the Lord says ‘Arise!’, and see a better one done this year. Begin to make plans for a great year ahead of your family, so as to enjoy dominion. Root your plans in the Word of God, and take steps. Don’t just sit down. Begin to see every of your plans this year succeed. Arise and Shine! As a family -husband, wife, children- make godly plans in your finances, careers, academics, relationships, and seal them with the Word. God shall back you up and your plans will succeed.

However, dominion in your family starts with Jesus. If you are not yet born again and you desire to do so right now, please pray this prayer with faith in your heart: Dear Lord Jesus Christ, I come to You today. I am a sinner. Forgive me my sins and cleanse me with Your Blood. I accept You as my Lord and personal Saviour. Make me a child of God today. Thank You for delivering me from sin and satan to serve the living God and thank You for accepting me into Your Kingdom.

Congratulations! If you prayed this simple prayer of faith with me, you are now born again and a child of God. He loves you and will never leave you. “And it came to pass on a certain day, as he was teaching, that there were Pharisees and doctors of the law sitting by, which were come out of every town of Galilee, and Judaea, and Jerusalem: and the power of the Lord was present to heal them.” Luke 5:17 KJV

According to this account, while Jesus was teaching the Word, the power of God was present, anywhere the Word is being taught, there is power. The arena of the Word is the arena of power. But only the man sick of the palsy and carried by four men was healed. These men brought the sick man to the right place. They had an understanding that the Word and Power go hand in hand. When they saw that the room was full and entrances were filled, these people never gave up. They were determined that it has to happen. They knew they had come to the right place. Therefore, they went on the roof and broke every protocol because they knew that the Word was present there. And the sick man received his healing by just hearing the Word.

There is no time that you attend a Bible-believing church and the Word is being preached that there is no supernatural happening. The question is, are you positioned? Are you receiving? Beloved, any time you become discouraged and any time your peace leaves you, you have let go of the Word. “Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee.” (Isaiah 26:3 KJV) Your mind will be peaceful, at rest and in trust. Trust Him! It may not have happened, but trust Him.

Do not deify any man. We reverence men of God but they are not your God. They did not die for you. It is Jesus that died for you. One of the things that Jesus is emphasising in these last days in His Church is that men should not be deified. The Owner of the Church wants to take over His Church.

Key Verse: “And thou shalt say unto him, The LORD God of the Hebrews hath sent me unto thee, saying, Let my people go, that they may serve me in the wilderness: and behold, hitherto thou wouldest not hear” (Exodus 7:16).

MESSAGE:

There is a popular saying amongst countryfolk that anyone killed by a moving train is incurably blind and deaf. This is because the train by its sheer size and noise, announces itself while still afar off, its horn reverberating through the villages and farmlands. Those who farm near or close to the rail line take extra caution as they watch the train rumble ferociously along its track.

After Aaron’s staff swallowed up all the rods of the magicians, they simply walked away from the scene without their sticks, thus affirming that a true supernatural work had taken place. Their leader should have been wise to understand the futility of the task he had embarked upon.

The warning from God was clear. God multiplied His signs and wonders in the land of Egypt so that the Egyptians might know He is the Lord and that there is no other God beside Him. Other gods might have some power to perform magic; but true and ultimate power belongs to the almighty God, the Creator of the heavens and the earth.

Perhaps, you have a fringe relationship with God in which you are yet to partake of His supernatural manifestations. Or perhaps, you are like Pharaoh who was cynical about God. Why not opt for a much closer walk with Him today; have abiding faith in Him and trust Him to the uttermost. It will not be too long before you start reaping the undying rewards.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: Stand on Christ, the Solid Rock for all other gods are man’s works.

4. Pray for the electorate, for God guidance in voting for the right candidate
5. Pray that all those who are seeking power by fetish means will be disappointed
6. Pray that God will choose for us leaders that will rule in righteousness and fear of God
7. Father let all men in government fear you and do away with unrighteous behaviors for the good of our Nations. (Eccl 12:13)
8. Father use this coming elections to declare your glory Nigeria and other Nations
9. Father we decree and declare Nations to be free of every form of wastage be it human beings or finance in Jesus’ name
10. Father help our leaders to walk in your fear, wisdom, knowledge and understanding

Memorise: “By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another. “ – John 13:35

Read: 1 Corinthians 13:1-13

1 IF I [can] speak in the tongues of men and [even] of angels, but have not love (that reasoning, intentional, spiritual devotion such as is inspired by God’s love for and in us), I am only a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal.

2 And if I have prophetic powers (the gift of interpreting the divine will and purpose), and understand all the secret truths and mysteries and possess all knowledge, and if I have [sufficient] faith so that I can remove mountains, but have not love (God’s love in me) I am nothing (a useless nobody).

3 Even if I dole out all that I have [to the poor in providing] food, and if I surrender my body to be burned or in order that I may glory, but have not love (God’s love in me), I gain nothing.

4 Love endures long and is patient and kind; love never is envious nor boils over with jealousy, is not boastful or vainglorious, does not display itself haughtily.

5 It is not conceited (arrogant and inflated with pride); it is not rude (unmannerly) and does not act unbecomingly. Love (God’s love in us) does not insist on its own rights or its own way, for it is not self-seeking; it is not touchy or fretful or resentful; it takes no account of the evil done to it [it pays no attention to a suffered wrong].

6 It does not rejoice at injustice and unrighteousness, but rejoices when right and truth prevail.

7 Love bears up under anything and everything that comes, is ever ready to believe the best of every person, its hopes are fadeless under all circumstances, and it endures everything [without weakening].

8 Love never fails [never fades out or becomes obsolete or comes to an end]. As for prophecy (the gift of interpreting the divine will and purpose), it will be fulfilled and pass away; as for tongues, they will be destroyed and cease; as for knowledge, it will pass away [it will lose its value and be superseded by truth].

9 For our knowledge is fragmentary (incomplete and imperfect), and our prophecy (our teaching) is fragmentary (incomplete and imperfect).

10 But when the complete and perfect (total) comes, the incomplete and imperfect will vanish away (become antiquated, void, and superseded).

11 When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child; now that I have become a man, I am done with childish ways and have put them aside.

12 For now we are looking in a mirror that gives only a dim (blurred) reflection [of reality as in a riddle or enigma], but then [when perfection comes] we shall see in reality and face to face! Now I know in part (imperfectly), but then I shall know and understand fully and clearly, even in the same manner as I have been fully and clearly known and understood [by God].

13 And so faith, hope, love abide [faith–conviction and belief respecting man’s relation to God and divine things; hope–joyful and confident expectation of eternal salvation; love–true affection for God and man, growing out of God’s love for and in us], these three; but the greatest of these is love.

MESSAGE:

The devil is very good at turning around good things and making them bad. Valentine’s Day is one of the good things that the devil has turned around into something destructive. The day is in celebration of a Catholic Priest in true love God’s way. God’s kind of love does not encourage fornication. God’s love does not encourage that you save and spend all your money or even steal to impress a girl or boy. Valentine’s Day today has become a trap of the devil to destroy many lives and destinies, don’t fall into the trap.

Why don’t you change the narrative by doing the right thing? Show love this Valentine’s Day to the people that really need love; the less privileged and the depressed. Instead of using that money to buy gifts for a girl/boy that will be in love with someone else tomorrow, use it to feed the hungry. At the end of the day, you will feel far more fulfilled than everyone else who sold their purity to the devil on this day.

Action Point:

Today, promote love, not lust.

She turned around and saw Jesus standing there, but she did not realize that it was Jesus. – John 20:14

Today’s Scripture & Insight: John 20:13-16

As I queued up to board my flight, someone tapped my shoulder. I turned and received a warm greeting. “Elisa! Do you remember me? It’s Joan!” My mind flipped through various “Joans” I’d known, but I couldn’t place her. Was she a previous neighbor? A past coworker? Oh dear . . . I didn’t know.

Sensing my struggle, Joan responded, “Elisa, we knew each other in high school.” A memory rose: Friday night football games, cheering from the stands. Once the context was clarified, I recognized Joan.

After Jesus’s death, Mary Magdalene went to the tomb early in the morning and found the stone rolled away and His body gone (John 20:1–2). She ran to get Peter and John, who returned with her to find the tomb empty (vv. 3–10). But Mary lingered outside in her grief (v. 11). When Jesus appeared there, “she did not realize that it was Jesus” (v. 14), thinking He was the gardener (v. 15).

How could she have not recognized Jesus? Was His resurrected body so changed that it was difficult to recognize Him? Did her grief blind her to His identity? Or, perhaps, like me, was it because Jesus was “out of context,” alive in the garden instead of dead in the tomb, that she didn’t recognize Him?

How might we too miss Jesus when He comes into our days—during prayer or Bible reading, or by simply whispering in our hearts?

Today’s Reflection
Dear God, give us eyes to see Jesus, however He comes—in a familiar context or surprising us in an unexpected one.
