Open Heavens for Teens 11 February 2019 – Money II

Topic: Money II [Open Heavens for Teens 11 February 2019]

Memorise: “The blessing of the LORD, it maketh rich, and He addeth no sorrow with it.” – Proverbs 10:22

Read: Ecclesiastes 5:10

Bible In One Year: Leviticus 13, Matthew 26:20-54

MESSAGE:

Many who got money through questionable means now regret it because to maintain their money, they now have to continue doing evil and the evil that men do always live after them. Besides, they get the money but eventually become miserable and empty on the inside because money does not satisfy (Ecclesiastes 5:10)

If you think deeply about your life, you will agree with me that God has been very good to you. Do not disappoint Him by committing sin just to get money. Judas Iscariot got money by disappointing Jesus Christ after all that Jesus had taught and done for him. He became as miserable and empty that he never got to spend the money. If Judas Iscariot had been told how he would feel after committing such a sin for money, he would definitely have made a better choice. Have you been involved in getting money through devious or immoral means? Call on Jesus in repentance now so that He can erase your past and you can live a better life. If you have never involved yourself with immorality and deviousness, I rejoice with you, please remain far from the lure of the devil through money.

Key Point:

It will profit you nothing if you gain the whole world and lose your soul.

Hymn 3

1.There shall be showers of blessing
This is the promise of love;
There shall be season refreshing
Sent from the Savior above

Showers of blessing,
Showers of blessing we need;
Mercy drop ’round are falling,
But for the showers we plead.

2.There shall be showers of blessing
Precious reviving again;
Over the hills and the valleys,
Sound of abundance of rain.

3. There shall be showers of blessing
Send them upon us O Lord
Grant to us a refreshing;
Come now and honor Thy Word.

4. There shall be showers of blessing
Oh that today thy might fall,
Now as to God we are confessing,
Now as on Jesus we call!

Open Heaven 11 February 2019 – Bargaining with the Divine

Open Heaven 11 February 2019 Monday Daily Devotional By Pastor E. A. Adeboye – Bargaining with the Divine

Topic: Bargaining with the Divine (Open Heaven 11 February 2019)

Memorise: “And this stone, which I have set for a pillar, shall be God’s house: and of all that thou shalt give me I will surely give the tenth unto thee.”- Genesis 28:22

Read: 1 Samuel 1:9-11 (KJV)

9 So Hannah rose up after they had eaten in Shiloh, and after they had drunk. Now Eli the priest sat upon a seat by a post of the temple of the LORD.

10 And she was in bitterness of soul, and prayed unto the LORD, and wept sore.

11 And she vowed a vow, and said, O LORD of hosts, if thou wilt indeed look on the affliction of thine handmaid, and remember me, and not forget thine handmaid, but wilt give unto thine handmaid a man child, then I will give him unto the LORD all the days of his life, and there shall no razor come upon his head.

Bible in One Year: John 6, Isaiah 37:14-29

Open Heaven 11 February 2019 Monday MESSAGE:

Our heavenly Father is so gracious to us that even though He is omnipotent, He still allows us to bargain with Him when the need arises. Agreements between God and mankind can be broadly classified under three categories: covenants, vows and oaths. Covenants are solemn agreements or promises which are confirmed by sacrifice or the sharing of a meal as a token of the commitment of both parties to uphold the articles of the covenant they have made. An example of this is the covenant between Jesus Christ and His Church which we invoke through the Lord’s Supper (1 Corinthians 11:23-27). Speaking on covenants, the Holy Spirit says in Psalm 50:5:

“Gather my saints together unto me; those that have made a covenant with me by sacrifice.”

On the other hand, vows are pledges made to God as part of an appeal for something of great importance. It can also be viewed as a promise to God to do something, with the implication that failure to perform what is promised will result in divine sanctions. The fulfillment of vows is conditioned on the granting of a request. Thirdly, an oath is a binding promise with the invocation of repercussions for failing to fulfill the promise made. The curse or negative consequence will be carried out if the oath is broken.

The Bible does not place any requirement or compulsion on any Christian to enter into a covenant, make a vow or pronounce an oath. They are all voluntary obligations, but once entered into; they are binding and must be kept. Covenants, vows and oaths are often used to measure our seriousness and emphasise our commitment to receive something important from God. In Genesis 28:20-22, Jacob bargained with God and his request was granted. In Judges 11:30-31, Jephthah made a vow unto the Lord and he received immediate answer to his request. Hannah made a vow to God when she needed a child and God granted her request in a way that put a new song in her mouth (1 Samuel 1:11). Also, Israel as a nation made a vow in Numbers 21:2 for the Lord to grant them victory over their enemy, and God granted their request. At different times and for diverse reasons, Abraham, David , Solomon, Paul and others proved the efficacy of bargaining with God, and none of them was by any means disappointed. Entering into an agreement with God in order to resolve a difficult issue or in order to get God to move in your favor is highly recommended, but you must not fail to fulfill your promise to Him.

Open Heaven 11 February 2019 Monday Action Point:

Reflect over the covenant between you and the Lord Jesus Christ; are you living up to the terms of this covenant? Have you fulfilled all your vows to the Lord?

Open Heaven 11 February 2019 Monday Hymn 9: In Christ Alone

  1. In Christ alone my hope is found
He is my light, my strength, my song
    This Cornerstone, this solid ground
Firm through the fiercest drought and storm
What heights of love, what depths of peace
When fears are stilled, when strivings cease
My Comforter, my All in All
Here in the love of Christ I stand.
  2. In Christ alone, who took on flesh
Fullness of God in helpless babe
This gift of love and righteousness
Scorned by the ones He came to save
‘Til on that cross as Jesus died
The wrath of God was satisfied
For every sin on Him was laid
Here in the death of Christ I live.
  3. There in the ground His body lay
Light of the world by darkness slain
Then bursting forth in glorious Day
Up from the grave He rose again
And as He stands in victory
Sin’s curse has lost its grip on me
For I am His and He is mine
Bought with the precious blood of Christ
  4. No guilt in life, no fear in death
This is the power of Christ in me
From life’s first cry to final breath
    Jesus commands my destiny
No power of hell, no scheme of man
Can ever pluck me from His hand
Till He returns or calls me home
Here in the power of Christ I’ll stand.

Centuries-old chalice worth £20k stolen during church raid

The cup was among several items (some are pictured) taken during a raid at All Saints Church on Old Church Road in Chingford overnight between 21st and 22nd November 2018.

PC Nicole Garcia, said: “These items are of great importance to the church and its congregation.

“I would urge anyone who has been offered them for sale to contact us. They are quite distinctive and would have stood out.

Metropolitan Police

“The idea that someone would break into a place of worship is cause for concern and I would encourage anyone with information to come forward.”

Metropolitan Police

The chalice has a watermark dating to 1595 and has an estimated worth of £20,000.

Rev Andy Trenier was quoted by the Evening Standard newspaper as saying: “It’s more than sentimental; it’s a piece of the parish that has been stolen.

“It’s totally irreplaceable. It’s quite plain with worn silver and a rose stem pattern.”

Three locked doors were smashed through in order to gain access to a safe housing the chalice. Other stolen items include a chatten, a flaggon and a ciborium.

Anyone with information is asked to contact officers at the North-East…

we saved sex for marriage

Canadian pop star Justin and US model Hailey, daughter of actor Stephen Baldwin, have also told of the struggles in their marriage, and that it is not all a “magical fantasy”.

The couple tied the knot in September after a 12-week romance, following a 10-year friendship.

In a joint interview, Justin, 24, told US Vogue magazine that he had a “legitimate problem with sex” before rekindling his relationship with Hailey – who he had dated briefly three years earlier – last June.

The Baby singer had chosen to give up sex for more than a year in order to feel closer to God he said, adding: “He doesn’t ask us not to have sex for him because he wants rules and stuff. He’s like, I’m trying to protect you from hurt and pain.

“I think sex can cause a lot of pain. Sometimes people have sex because they don’t feel good enough. Because they lack self-worth.”

Justin said he wanted to “re-dedicate” himself to God in that way “because I really felt it was better for the condition of my soul”.

“And I believe that God blessed me with Hailey as a result. There are perks. You get rewarded for good behaviour,” he added.

He told the magazine, on which they appear as cover stars together, their…

‘Come and express your difference’, Archbishop urges Anglicans against Lambeth Conference boycott

The Archbishop of Cape Town’s plea comes as a conservative colleague has reiterated his call for a boycott of the Lambeth Conference in 2020, branding it an “obstacle to the gospel”.

But Thabo Makgoba, part of the group tasked by the Archbishop of Canterbury Most Rev Justin Welby with organising the summit in Canterbury, told members of the international Anglican community they “need each other”.

Addressing the Anglican Communion in a video, he said: “I know people talk about the fabric of the communion as torn but we are all fallible human beings in need of God’s love and grace, and we need each other.”

Disagreements concerning matters such as homosexuality and marriage have highlighted staunch differences between progressive and traditionalist branches of the worldwide Anglican Church.

Last week, the Archbishop of Nigeria, Nicholas Okoh cited the recent same-sex wedding of the Assistant Bishop of Toronto inside an Anglican cathedral as indicative of his concerns over the Church’s trajectory.

Archbishop Okoh said: “This step by the Anglican Church of Canada underlines the urgency of our advice in the Jerusalem 2018 ‘Letter to the Churches’ warning against attending the 2020 Lambeth Conference as currently constituted.”

‘Prison of Christ’ reopens to pilgrims in Jerusalem

The ‘Prison of Christ’ chapel had been closed to tourists for a number of years while repairs were carried out following a fire which caused significant damage.

A senior official from the Greek Orthodox Church told the AFP news agency: “It is in this prison that Jesus was detained after he carried the cross along the Via Dolorosa.

“Since the end of January, it has once again become a place of prayer and contemplation.”

Tradition has it that pits dug into rock within the chapel were used to bind Jesus’ feet. Today, they are protected by a window casing.

The ‘Prison of Christ’ forms part of the Church of the Holy Sepulchre – a major site for Christian pilgrimage, particularly during Easter.

Some people believe the landmark – located in the Christian quarter of the Old City – marks the place where Jesus was put to death and buried.

Different parts of the Church of the Holy Sepulchre are overseen by different churches – Roman Catholic, Greek Orthodox and Armenian.

The ‘Prison of Christ’…

Asia Bibi ‘being prevented from leaving Pakistan’

A friend of Asia Bibi said the 54-year-old was being kept by officials alongside her husband in a locked room in the southern port city of Karachi.

Aman Ullah, who telephoned Ms Bibi on Friday, told Associated Press (AP): “She has no indication of when she will leave… they are not telling her why she cannot leave.”

According to Mr Ullah, European diplomats assisting the mother-of-five were told her departure from the country shall not come in the short-term but “in the medium-term”.

A member of Pakistan’s government told AP “all possible measures” were being taken to ensure Asia Bibi’s safety but she is a “free citizen” and able to travel at will.

In an email to the news agency, Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry said: “She is living with her family and given requisite security for safety”.

Ms Bibi spent eight years on death row after being convicted of insulting Islam – an accusation she always denied.

Premier’s Alex Williams speaking with Asia Bibi’s husband, Ashiq, and daughter, Eisham, in 2018.

The allegation surfaced after she was involved in a disagreement with a group of Muslim women in 2009 over the use of a water cup.

She was acquitted in October last year – a decision upheld by the Supreme Court in Islamabad last month. Hard-line Islamists protested at her…
