Christian former Labour whip facing possible prison sentence over speeding lies

The (now independent) Member of Parliament for Peterborough was found guilty of perverting the court of justice following a retrial in December.

The Old Bailey heard evidence the MP was texting as well as speeding on the evening of Monday 24th July last year, during the summer recess.

The 35-year-old solicitor was clocked going 41mph in a 30mph zone in the village of Thorney near Peterborough.

The prosecution alleged she went on to collude with her brother Festus to avoid a speeding ticket.

The court was told she was sent a Notice of Intended Prosecution (NIP) to fill out, but it was sent back naming the driver as Aleks Antipow, an acquaintance of Festus, who was away visiting his parents in Russia.

Festus, 34, from Cambridge, pleaded guilty to three counts of perverting the course of justice over speeding, including for the July 24 incident.

The siblings will be sentenced at the Old Bailey by Mr Justice Stuart-Smith on Tuesday.

In the wake of the guilty verdict, Onasanya was expelled from the Labour Party and has launched an appeal against her conviction.

If she is sentenced for a year or more, she will automatically lose her seat and if the sentence is less than a year then she could face a recall petition – where her constituency could recall her from parliament and trigger a by-election if 10 per cent electorate sign the petition.

A by-election could be a close and…

The key to serenity in a chaotic culture

Did you hear about the Pennsylvania man who has a registered emotional support alligator?

Joie Henney says his pet, Wally, likes to give hugs. Henney told reporters that his doctor gave him approval to use the five-foot-long alligator for emotional support rather than go on medication for depression. He frequently takes Wally to senior centers and minor-league baseball games. “He’s just like a dog,” he told a woman recently. “He wants to be loved and petted.”

When I read about Wally, I thought of an Indonesian woman who was keeping Merry, a fourteen-foot crocodile, as a pet. Earlier this month, she was killed and partially eaten by the animal.

There’s an old story about a scorpion and a frog who met on the bank of a stream. The scorpion asked the frog to carry him across the water on its back.

The frog asked, “How do I know you won’t sting me?”

The scorpion said, “Because if I do, I will die too.”

The frog was satisfied, and the two set out across the water. Midstream, the scorpion stung the frog.

As the frog started to sink, knowing they would both drown, it gasped, “Why?”

The scorpion replied: “It’s my nature.”

The danger of euphemisms

Renaming reality doesn’t change reality.

What proponents call the “sexual revolution,” the Bible calls “sin.” Mary Eberstadt documents the devastation of this “revolution” for women, families, the elderly, and victims of pornography and sexually transmitted disease.

“Death with dignity” is still death. The “product of conception” is how Planned Parenthood describes a baby in its mother’s womb. What Nazi Germany called the “Final Solution,” we call the “Holocaust.” (Israelis call it the “Shoah,” meaning catastrophe.)

Euphemisms are useful in anesthetizing us to reality. But when the patient wakes up, the pain returns.

Every four years, the Director of National Intelligence produces a document called the National Intelligence Strategy. The Washington…

‘Heterosexual parenting best for children’, new book from Christian publishers claims

Wilberforce Publications – which forms part of the Christian Concern campaign group – will launch ‘Same-sex parenting research: a critical assessment’ in central London on Tuesday afternoon.

The book was penned by Walter Schumm, a professor of applied family science at Kansas State University in the US, who sought to examine the impact of same-sex parenting on children.

He said his conclusions refute the assumption the outcomes of children raised by gay couples are no different from those brought up by heterosexual couples.

Professor Schumm, who has written extensively on parenthood, drew upon 400 studies concerning same-sex parenting (SSP) in compiling his findings.

He told Premier: “More recent studies seem to be finding that the children [raised by same-sex couples] are less emotionally able to deal with stress.”

The academic continued: “It was claimed in US courts that same-sex couples were more stable – or as stable – as heterosexual parents…

Joyce Meyer Devotional 29 January 2019 — Short and Sweet

Topic: Short and Sweet [Joyce Meyer Devotional 29 January 2019]

You will seek me and find me, when you seek me with all your heart. — Jeremiah 29:13

Sometimes people think they have to spend a long time praying in order to demonstrate their love for God. But prayer does not have to be long to be powerful.

The length of our prayers really makes no difference to God. All that matters is that our prayers are Spirit-led, heartfelt, and accompanied by true faith.

There is certainly nothing wrong with praying for an extended period of time. I believe we should set aside times for prolonged prayer and that our willingness or lack of willingness to spend time with God determines our level of intimacy with Him.

If issues in our lives really require us to pray at great length, then we need to do that, but we do not have to pray prolonged prayers just for the sake of logging time.

I have learned that some of the most powerful, effective prayers I can pray are things like, “Thank You, Lord,” or “Give me strength to keep going, Lord.” And perhaps the most powerful of all: “Help!!!”

See? Just a few words will connect us with heaven, and God will know how much we love Him simply because we turn our thoughts toward Him.

If you have thought your prayers had to be long in order to be effective, I hope you have now been relieved of that burden. Just one word spoken to Him in faith from a sincere heart can reach His heart and move His hand.

Prayer Starter: Father, let my prayers today be like breathing—easy, comfortable, and almost without thinking. Help my prayers and conversations with You become more genuine and meaningful—less about “have to” and more about “want to.” In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

TREM Devotional 29 January 2019 – You Can Do More

Topic: You Can Do More [TREM Devotional 29 January 2019]

“I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me”. Philippians 4:13 KJV

People who are not willing to stretch themselves don’t go far. Never! They disappear into oblivion! Their names are not known. But when you are willing to discover new territories and step into areas where others fear to step into, your name shall be written in gold. I challenge you, therefore, to stretch yourself. Stretch yourself into your destiny. Attempt big things that will require God to step in and help you achieve. Don’t just receive all that is spoken over your life in Church and go home, sit back and do nothing. God is able to do exceedingly, abundantly above what we can ask or think according to the power that is at work in you.

Check out what others are doing and find out what it is that is on ground that you can improve upon. Ask yourself; what can I provide to make it better? How can I package it better? Find out what is on ground and make it better than what it is. You can do more.

Beloved, there is work to be done. Today, the Lord has blessed you with a home, a husband, wife, children and a car. But that is not all. There is more to be done. The nations of the world are calling you. The nations of Africa are hungry. Don’t be deceived with what we see in Nigeria. Some of the things we take for granted are not like that in most of the countries that are close to us here.

I prophesy a fresh anointing of speed and glory come upon your life. I decree that fresh ideas, concepts and knowledge of witty inventions be released upon your life. You will take your portion. You will not miss your opportunities. God will position you for greatness. By reason of the anointing of the Holy Spirit upon your life, you will rise above the obstacles and impediments of the wicked. No power shall hold you down. I bless you today.

MFM Daily Devotional 29 January 2019 – The Wonders of God’s Word(II)

MFM Mountain Top Life Daily Devotional 29 January 2019 By Dr. D.K Olukoya – The Wonders of God’s Word(II)

TOPIC: The Wonders of God’s Word(II) (Mountain Of Fire and Miracle Ministries, MFM Daily Devotional 29 January 2019)

Bible In One Year: Exodus 21-22; Matthew 19

FIRE SCRIPTURE: Job 22:21-27

MEMORY VERSE: “For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.” – Romans 1:16

The MESSAGE:

God’s word is the carrier of God’s power. The word of God opens new chapters for destinies. The word of God opens lives to new levels. That was the case with Joseph. When his word came, a new chapter was opened to him.

The word of God gives life. That is why the Bible talks about the life-giving water of the word. In addition, supernatural victory is domiciled in the word because God still upholds all things by the power of His word till now (Ephesians 6:17). The word of God produces signs and wonders (Matthew 4:1-4; Hebrews 1:3; Matthew 21:44). From the mystery of creation, we understand that God’s word truly creates solutions supernaturally (Genesis 1:1-3; Mark 16:20; Acts 14:3).

Beloved, the word of God is the believer’s divine panacea or cure all. The Bible says that God’s word is life to those who find it and health or medicine to all their flesh (Proverbs 4:20-22). God sent His word, His word heals them and delivered them from their destructions. His word delivers; His word illuminates, guides and protect. His word empowers (Psalms 107:20).

For you to appreciate the innumerable benefits and wonders of God’s word, you must be born again. Study the word daily, obey God’s instructions from His word, memorise the word, meditate on the word and be a doer of the word. Finally, share the word with others and use it to win souls for Christ.

Everything you need for fulfilled life on earth and eternity in heaven is in God’s word. Become a word addict today. You will also become an environmental transformer, a world changer and a performer of signs and wonders in your generation.

MOTIVATIONAL QUOTE:
THE WORD OF GOD HAS THE CAPACITY TO TURN YOU TO A WONDER.

PROPHETIC WORD:
Your destiny helpers shall locate you by fire.

PRAYER POINTS:

MORNING

  1. O Lord, give me honey from the well, in the name of Jesus.
  2. Let the wonders of God’s word manifest in my life today, in the name of Jesus.
  3. Father, send Your word to perform miracles in my life today, in the name of Jesus.
    EVENING
  4. Father, I reject all that robs me of the joy of inheritance in Your kingdom, in the name of Jesus.
  5. Lord Jesus, begin a deep work within my heart today, in the name of Jesus.
  6. I reject every spirit of slavery and hardship, in the name of Jesus.
  7. Let my hands break the citadel of the enemy, in the name of Jesus.

Seeds of Destiny 29 January 2019 Devotional – The God-Revolving Decisions and Actions

Topic: The God-Revolving Decisions and Actions [Seeds of Destiny 29 January 2019 Devotional]

Scripture: And this will we do, if God permit. Hebrews 6:3

Thought For The Day: Taking a God-revolving decision or action is key to success in life.

Destiny is a product of decisions and actions of life. Great destinies are birthed as a result of great decisions and actions; also, small destinies thrive on small decisions and actions.

Now, one of the secrets of great men like Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Joseph, Moses and even our Master Jesus Christ was that they all took decisions and actions that revolve around God. Therefore, taking a God-revolving decision or action is key to success in life.

Also, to live for God is to make decisions and take actions that revolve around our relationship with God. Let me give you a practical example: as a lady who is about to get married, when you take decision and action that revolve around God in the area of your marriage, you are not going to be carried away by any rich man you see. When someone who is rich comes to marry you, the questions to ask yourself are: Does he have a relationship with God? Does he fear God? Or is it just his money I want to marry? In the same way, as a young man, if you see a young girl to marry, you need to ask yourself: Does this lady fear or respect God? Does she have a spiritual stand with God? Or am I attracted to her because of her container? If you see a job, the questions you need to ask yourself are; will the job help me to serve God better? Or will it take me to hell?

Beloved, make up your mind to live for God and God only; take decisions and actions that revolve around God only and you would be distinguished in life.

Remember this: Taking a God-revolving decision or action is key to success in life.

Amazing Fact: Your eyes contain 7 million cones which help you see colour and detail, as well as 100 million cells called rods which help you to see better in the dark.

Assignments:

  1. Let all your decisions and actions revolve around God always.
  2. Draw closer to God always in order to know what He wants you to do.

Prayer: O Lord, I receive the grace to take decisions and actions that revolve around You, in Jesus’ Name.
