Over Half of American Protestants Say They Tithe but Some Count Secular Charity Donations

More than half of American Protestant Christians report tithing their income. But all tithes don’t necessarily go to the church, with some Christians believing they can tithe to charities, including secular ones, according to recently released findings by LifeWay Research.

In a report released last Thursday, LifeWay noted that 54 percent of surveyed Protestants give at least 10 percent of their income to the church. Among them, 37 percent say they tithe and 17 percent say they give more than 10 percent.

One in 5 say they give regularly but they give less than 10 percent of their income. Seventeen percent say they’re not consistent with their tithing and 8 percent say it’s difficult for them to tithe due to finances.

Those more likely to tithe are those who attend services regularly.

Based off of a survey of 1,010 Americans who attend Protestant or nondenominational services at least once a month and 1,000 Protestant senior pastors, the report also found that many believe donating money to non-church entities can count as a tithe.

While 98 percent say their tithey money is directed to a church, nearly half (48 percent) say tithes…

Andrew Wommack Devotional 26 January 2019 – The Weapon Of The Word

Topic: The Weapon Of The Word [Andrew Wommack Devotional 26 January 2019]

Luke 4:4, “And Jesus answered him, saying, It is written, That man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God.”

Text: MT. 4:1-11; MK. 1:12-13; LK. 4:1-13

Jesus answered every temptation with, “It is written.” The Word of God is the sword of the Spirit (Eph. 6:17). It is the only offensive spiritual weapon that we have.

Since Jesus was the Word of God (Jn. 1:1), anything he would have spoken would have been the Word. He could have said “scat” and the devil would have had to go, yet He quoted the written Word of God three times.

This gives us great assurance that the written Word of God is sufficient for us. Jesus, in the face of the greatest temptations that Satan had to offer, did not need to say anything that was not already recorded in scripture.

It is likely that when Jesus returns to this earth and destroys His enemies, He will just speak the Word that has already been given in scripture. No wonder Satan tries to keep us from studying and knowing God’s Word. Even our good works will hurt us if they keep us from really knowing the scriptures.

God has given us this mighty weapon of His Word! When we speak the Word in faith, hell shakes. Satan and his minions have already experienced what the Word can do. They know its power. We need to know it, too.

TREM Devotional 26 January 2019 – Get Out of the Familiar Terrain

Topic: Get Out of the Familiar Terrain [TREM Devotional 26 January 2019]

“Now the LORD had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father’s house unto the land I will shew thee”: Genesis 12:1 KJV

Country, kindred and father’s house are all familiar terrains. They are things that Abram was used to. When the Grace of God located him, he was commanded to come out of these familiar terrains. God wants you to get out of familiarity. You can’t move forward when you are always on familiar ways of doing things. ‘This is the way I know how to do it!’ In other words, you can close your eyes and still be able to do it. If that is where you are, you won’t be able to get to where you are going. God loves it when people stretch themselves into a new arena and new terrains. God loves it when you get out of the familiar.

Beloved, get out of that place where they have you figured out. Get out of what you used to know and what you are familiar with and try something new. Find out how best you can spice things up and get back the enthusiasm. Don’t fall into the routine mode: ‘That is how it is and so it will be!’ No!

One of the secrets of productivity and growth in anything is that you put yourself in a situation that will stretch your ability. You can’t know what a person can do until you stretch him.

God said to Gideon: “The Lord is with thee thou mighty man of valour” (Judges 6:12 KJV) And Gideon began to tell God how poor his family background was. A stronghold had been built into his mind that his family was poor. Not only was his family poor, even within the family background, he was the poorest. That is the foundation he had. A foundation of poverty where every member of the family was poor. And as for him, even the poor called him poor. These are some of the strongholds you must pull out of your head. But God came and stretched him. In spite of all he said to God, “…the Lord looked upon him, and said, Go in this thy might, and thou shalt save Israel”(Judges 6:14 KJV).

Our Daily Bread 26 January 2019 Devotional – Righteous Among the Nations

Topic: Righteous Among the Nations [Our Daily Bread 26 January 2019 Devotional]

Bible in a Year: Exodus 16–18; Matthew 18:1–20

For such a time as this. – Esther 4:14

Today’s Scripture & Insight: Esther 4:5-14

At Yad Vashem, the Holocaust museum in Israel, my husband and I went to the Righteous Among the Nations garden that honors the men and women who risked their lives to save Jewish people during the Holocaust. While looking at the memorial, we met a group from the Netherlands. One woman was there to see her grandparents’ names listed on the large plaques. Intrigued, we asked about her family’s story.

Members of a resistance network, the woman’s grandparents Rev. Pieter and Adriana Müller took in a two-year-old Jewish boy and passed him off as the youngest of their eight children from 1943–1945.

Moved by the story, we asked, “Did the little boy survive?” An older gentleman in the group stepped forward and proclaimed, “I am that boy!”

The bravery of many to act on behalf of the Jewish people reminds me of Queen Esther. The queen may have thought she could escape King Xerxes’s decree to annihilate the Jews around 475 bc because she had concealed her ethnicity. However, she was convinced to act—even under the threat of death—when her cousin begged her to not remain silent about her Jewish heritage because she had been placed in her position “for such a time as this” (Esther 4:14).

We may never be asked to make such a dramatic decision. However, we will likely face the choice to speak out against an injustice or remain silent; to provide assistance to someone in trouble or turn away. May God grant us courage.

Today’s Reflection
Are there those you need to speak up for? Ask God about the timing.

Seeds of Destiny 26 January 2019 Devotional – Living in the Reverential Fear of God

Topic: Living in the Reverential Fear of God [Seeds of Destiny 26 January 2019 Devotional]

Scripture: And Joseph said unto them the third day, This do, and live; for I fear God: Genesis 42:18

Thought For The Day: Reverence for God makes you a reference point on Earth.

It has been established that God distinguishes people who are dedicated to Him. Therefore, understanding dedication is key to being distinguished in life.

The question is, what is dedication? Dedication to God means living in the reverential fear of God.

Now, what does it mean to live in the referential fear of God?
It is living with Respect and Regard for God (Genesis 42:18)
Living in the reverential fear of God means living with respect and regard for God and His Laws. When you have reverential fear for God, you respect God and His Word; you do not disrespect God or His Word.

Sometime ago, there was someone who was kidnapped and while in the kidnapper’s den, the kidnappers told him, ‘Look at me; let me tell you. I do not fear God, how much more man?’ Beloved, the lack of reverential fear for God made the kidnapper to look and act like the devil. To live in the reverential fear of God means to respect and honour God. For example, allowing your phone call to interrupt your prayer life is a lack of reverential fear for God. That is, those who are not dedicated to God do not fear God, they answer phone calls, text messages and even chew gum while in church service.

The question is, can you chew gum or answer a call when you are before the president of your nation? Some people even drop waste materials in church instead of putting them in the waste basket. Their behaviour confirms that they do not regard or respect God. Beloved, to be dedicated to God is to live in the reverential fear of God, and reverence for God makes you a reference point on earth

Remember this: Reverence for God makes you a reference point on Earth.

Assignments:

  1. Make reverence for God the guiding principle of your life.
  2. Do not respect people at the expense of God.

Prayer: O Lord, help me to reverence You in all that I do in life in Jesus’ Name.

MFM Daily Devotional 26 January 2019 – Unfeigned Love

MFM Mountain Top Life Daily Devotional 26 January 2019 By Dr. D.K Olukoya – Unfeigned Love

TOPIC: Unfeigned Love (Mountain Of Fire and Miracle Ministries, MFM Daily Devotional 26 January 2019)

Bible In One Year: Exodus 14-15; Matthew 17

FIRE SCRIPTURE: Ephesians 5:25-33

MEMORY VERSE: “Seeing ye have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit unto unfeigned love of the brethren, see that ye love one another with a pure heart fervently.” – 1 Peter 1:22

The MESSAGE:

In our reflections yesterday, we learnt that husbands and wives have individual roles to play to make their marriages successful and that if a marriage is unsuccessful, it is because one or both parties in the covenant relationship is not playing his or her role. We also established the fact that Ephesians 5:25 highlights the duties and responsibilities of the husband to the wife and Ephesians 5:22 reveals the duties of the wife to her husband. Ephesians 5:25 says, “Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church and gave himself for it.” Dear husband, the ultimate purpose of God for marriage is that you become like Christ. Do you love your wife as Christ loved the church and gave Himself for her? Let us examine the characteristics of Christ’s love for the church. Those should be your model for loving your wife.

First, Christ loved the church with unfeigned love. The word “unfeigned” means “not pretensive”, “without deception”, “honest”. The pure love without deception made Him to give His life for the church. Your love towards your wife should have this remarkable characteristic. It should be pure, honest and or without deception. Jesus was introduced as the Lamb of God that came to take away the sins of the world. Jesus did not turn away from the role that introduction bestowed on Him, neither did He dash the hope and expectation of saving mankind from sin. He went to the Cross and laid down His life so that we all might be saved from sin and eternal damnation. He gave His all to redeem us. You are required to love your wife in the same manner (so genuinely as to lay down your life for her)

As a Christian, you must be honest in your relationship with your spouse. Any marriage built on the foundation of dishonesty or deception will eventually collapse. That is one of the reasons marriages are failing today.

Relationships are built on trust, but dishonesty destroys trust. How true is your love towards your spouse? How honest are you in your dealings with your wife or husband? Do you divulge some items of information to her and keep some away from her? A man that says he loves his wife but keeps a concubine outside his matrimonial home is deceptive and God will not hold such a man guiltless for breaking the marriage covenant.

MOTIVATIONAL QUOTE:
HONESTY IS THE FIRST CHAPTER IN BOOK OF WISDOM.

PROPHETIC WORD:
The balm of Gilead will heal all wounds in your marriage.

PRAYER POINTS:

MORNING

  1. Let the unfeigned love of Christ dwell in me richly, in the name of Jesus.
  2. Every spirit of deceit in my life, die, in the name of Jesus.
  3. Every spirit of pretence and dishonesty in my life, die, in the name of Jesus.

EVENING

  1. O Lord, let not the enemy manipulate my love towards you, in the name of Jesus.
  2. O Lord, do not take away Your love from me, in the name of Jesus.
  3. Let the love of Christ be made manifest in my life, in the name of Jesus.
  4. Let the love of Christ be made manifest in the church of God, in the name of Jesus.

DCLM Daily Manna 26 January 2019 – The Little Counsel

Topic: The Little Counsel [DCLM Daily Manna 26 January 2019 Daily Devotional by Pastor William Folorunso Kumuyi]

Text: Proverbs 19:10-20 (KJV)

Key Verse: “Hear counsel, and receive instruction, that thou mayest be wise in thy latter end” (Proverbs 19:20).

MESSAGE:

These are indeed the last days. Unfortunately, many do not take into consideration things that matter for the future. The turn-table like life man lives presents him with no choice on earth than to have a share of almost every position or situation in life. However, obedience to God is the path to greatness.

Our text discusses different personalities and their reactions to circumstances as well as people surrounding them. We could envisage positions representing servitude, kingship, sonship, wife and motherhood as well as fatherhood. A man that is void of wisdom and grace is not fit to have a taste of heavenly goodies. It takes a king, one who is capable to be a ruler, to discern between friends and enemies as well as their rewards. It is only wise parents that would painstakingly train a child who in turn would become a man of prudence and diligence.

Tiny drops of water makes a mighty ocean, they say. Counsel in life is inevitable and right counsel is what we are encouraged in God’s word to receive. “…that thou mayest be wise in thy latter end”. To be successful in family, ministerial or secular engagements, we need wise counsel. Age is a function of number. Thus at any point in time, man should be open to counsel. Obedience will make us act wisely and profitably.

The teaching of the scripture emphasises wisdom in obedience to counsel (Proverbs 12:15). Foolishness is always the hallmark of people who refuse or reject wise instruction from their parents, leaders as well as God’s word (Proverbs 15:5).

Thought For The Day: Obedience to God is a pathway to life.

Ireland’s lower house approved the Occupied Territories Bill on Thursday which will outlaw the sale of products from Israel’s Golan Heights, West Bank, and east Jerusalem.

Get Ready for Transgender Pronouns: ‘They’ Is Replacing ‘Him,’ ‘Her’

Get Ready for Transgender Pronouns: ‘They’ Is Replacing ‘Him,’ ‘Her’

As businesses, schools and organizations continue toying with the definition of gender, they’re faced with another change they may not have anticipated: the elimination of traditional pronouns and titles.

For some transgender people, “Mr.” and “Ms.” are out, and “Mx.” – pronounced “mix” – is in. Just as significant, pronouns such as “he/him/his” and “she/her/hers” are sometimes taboo. Replacing it is “they/them/theirs” – a third-person plural pronoun that some transgender people now are using incorrectly in the third-person singular.

No doubt, old-school English teachers are frowning.

“Gender inclusivity is an important part of our overall commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion,” Jennifer Bielstein, executive director at the American Conservatory Theater, told the San Francisco Chronicle. “When someone has identified that they want to be called ‘they’ versus ‘her’ or ‘him,’ then everyone needs to honor that and respect that and work hard to remember how people identify.”

At staff meetings, people share their gender identity and their preferred pronouns and titles.

Workers at businesses across San Francisco sign their emails not only with their names but also with the pronoun that best identifies them. Bielstein introduces herself to others this way: “I’m Jennifer Bielstein,…
