Open Heaven 26 January 2019 – Genuinely Related To Jesus?

Open Heaven 26 January 2019 Saturday Daily Devotional By Pastor E. A. Adeboye – Genuinely Related To Jesus?

Topic: Genuinely Related To Jesus? (Open Heaven 26 January 2019)

Memorise: “And why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say?”- Luke 6:46

Read: Matthew 12:46-50 (KJV)

46 While he yet talked to the people, behold, his mother and his brethren stood without, desiring to speak with him.

47 Then one said unto him, Behold, thy mother and thy brethren stand without, desiring to speak with thee.

48 But he answered and said unto him that told him, Who is my mother? and who are my brethren?

49 And he stretched forth his hand toward his disciples, and said, Behold my mother and my brethren!

50 For whosoever shall do the will of my Father which is in heaven, the same is my brother, and sister, and mother.

Bible in One Year: Luke 4-5, Isaiah 24:21-25:12

Open Heaven 26 January 2019 Saturday MESSAGE:

One wonderful discovery I have made about Jesus Christ over the years is that He is indeed truth personified. He is incapable of deceit because He is The Truth. It can be rationalised when an individual deceives another individual, but it is surprising and appalling when people engage in self-deceit. It is self-deceit for a fellow to parade himself or herself as a Christian when in actual fact, he or she knows that they have no relationship with Jesus Christ. To such people, in Luke 6:46 Jesus Christ asks:

“And why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say?”

The Lord asked a similar question of those who considered themselves His priests in Malachi 1:6:

“A son honoureth his father, and a servant his master: if then I be a father, where is mine honour? and if I be a master, where is my fear? saith the LORD of hosts unto you, O priests, that despise my name. And ye say, Wherein have we despised thy name?”

The questions in this scripture indicate that these priests did not have a good relationship with the God of Israel. In the sight of God, a bad relationship is worse than no relationship at all (Revelation 3:15). It is therefore important that we reflect on the question of having a genuine relationship with Jesus today.

To be genuinely related to Jesus Christ, we must bear some truths in mind. First of these is that our relationship with Jesus is anchored on our obedience to His commandments. This is an area where a lot of 21st century Christians find it difficult to relate to the Bible. To live by the precepts of someone who lived over two thousand years ago sounds absurd, even to some ministers of the gospel. This is why they read their own meaning into the word of God, and this cuts them off from having a relationship with the Master. In today’s Bible text, Jesus Christ was clear in declaring to us those who actually are related to Him. In Matthew 12:50, He said:

“For whosoever shall do the will of my Father which is in heaven, the same is my brother, and sister, and mother.”

In John 8:31, He also told the people who believed in Him that if they would continue to live by His commandments, only then would they be His disciples indeed. He further said in Matthew 11:28-30 that those who would be genuinely related to Him must come to Him, take His yoke upon themselves and learn of Him. Beloved, are you in the category of those obeying the commandments of Jesus Christ, or are you among those who feel the Bible is no longer adequate or relevant to teach godliness? How far you are ready to go in doing the will of Christ determines how closely related you are to Him. Do you really belong to Him?

Muslim Police Officers, Others Beat and Arrest Christian in Kenya

Muslim Police Officers, Others Beat and Arrest Christian in Kenya

NAIROBI, Kenya, January 25, 2019 (Morning Star News) – Muslim policemen on Saturday (Jan. 19) beat and arrested a Christian man on the outskirts of Nairobi, Kenya in retaliation for refusing to recant Christianity, sources said.

Accompanied by two Muslims of Somali descent who had attacked him previously, the policemen arrived at the home where Hassan (surname withheld for security reasons) lives with his widowed mother, and the officers along with the two others punched, kicked, trampled and struck him with blunt objects, relatives said.

“The police arrived and carried Hassan away with blood flowing from his body,” his mother told Morning Star News, adding that one of the officers was a Muslim relative of Somali descent who has habitually joined other Somali Muslims resident in Nairobi in attacking her son. In Saturday’s attack, Hassan lost teeth and suffered leg, chest and back injuries, she said.

Initially, police took him to Ngong police station, where his mother’s pleas compelled them to take him to a medical clinic for treatment. The next day they transferred him to a police jail in Nairobi’s Industrial Area. His mother visited him there on Wednesday (Jan. 23) and said he was in bad condition.

“My son’s leg is bruised, he has serious chest and back pain, he is unable to walk and some of his teeth were removed,” she said. “My family is in…

HHS Grants South Carolina Christian Foster Care Ministry Religious Exemption

HHS Grants South Carolina Christian Foster Care Ministry Religious Exemption

The Trump administration granted South Carolina’s largest foster care agency a religious exemption wavier ensuring them that they can continue to place foster kids in Christian homes.

According to the Christian Post, last year, South Carolina’s governor Henry McMaster reached out to President Trump to ask for an exemption for Miracle Hill Ministries from the Health and Human Services rule that forbids foster-care organizations which receive federal funding to have a religious preference.

After almost a full year of conversations between the HHS and McMaster and an investigation into Miracle Hill’s religious convictions, the HHS concluded that forcing the ministry to adhere to the Obama-era regulation would be a violation of the Religious Freedom Restoration Act. The Religious Freedom Restoration Act was passed in 1993 and assures the protection of religious freedom.

In a letter to McMaster’s the HHS Office for Civil Rights wrote, “OCR specifically found that Miracle Hill’s sincere religious exercise would be substantially burdened by application of the religious nondiscrimination requirement” and would, therefore, be granted the exception.

The letter goes on to note that for the ministry will, however, have to adhere to anti-discrimination laws by referring non-Christian families to one of the nine other foster care agencies in their…

Texas Bills Threaten to Strip ‘Texans’ Right to Practice Biblical Teachings’

Texas Bills Threaten to Strip ‘Texans’ Right to Practice Biblical Teachings’

Some conservatives are worried that the liberal Left and some upcoming Texas state bills may try “to ban Christianity in Texas.”

Erick Erickson, a conservative blogger and radio host, writes in The Resurgentthat some half a dozen bills will ban Christianity “in all but name.”

This continues a long line of thought first advocated by the Obama Administration, which sought to restrict the ‘free exercise’ clause of the First Amendment to a ‘freedom of worship’ standard. In other words, be a Christian in church on Sunday, but nowhere else,” he says.

“Christianity is not a religion of the church pew, but of the town square. Texas progressives are trying to ban it from anywhere outside the church,” he added in his column.

Erickson was referring to Texas bills, including HB 224HB 254HB 850 and SB 151, all which would prohibit the discrimination of sexual orientation or gender identity by businesses, including Christian-owned ones. Previously, Christian businesses have claimed they have the right to refuse service based on their religious beliefs.

Two other bills are also being considered. HB 517 would require Christian counselors to affirm transgenderism and SB 154 would force doctors to create birth certificates retroactively for patients who gender transition.

Dave Welch, president of the Texas Pastors Council, also said the…

Christian ‘beaten and threatened by Islamic extremists’ in hiding after UK deportation

41-year-old Asher Samson had been in a lengthy legal battle to stay in the UK since he arrived in 2004 after suffering persecution.

He claimed he had been beaten and threatened with execution by Islamic extremists in Pakistan.

Premier was able to speak to Mr Samson earlier this month as he waited to be transported to a detention centre. However the leader of the church he attended before his removal confirmed that his application to remain had been denied.

Rev Lorraine Shorton from Hall Green United Community Church said on Premier’s News Hour: “I’ve received some messages from him. He’s very scared, he’s fearful for his life.

“He’s in hiding in Pakistan and his family are terribly worried for him.”

This comes as new research from the Catholic Church has found that 187 Christians are facing blasphemy charges in Pakistan.

Rev Lorraine said it was essential that Asher’s case be reopened.

Sharing her message to the Home Office, she said: “I would ask them to look again and bring Asher home to where he is safe.

“Jeremy Hunt on the 18th January – just this week, was talking with the Open Doors UK charity and said, ‘no one should face persecution for their faith where ever they are’ and that includes Christians.

“But the UK is sending people back to these countries where their lives are in danger. Pakistan is number five on the World Watch List for extremism against…

Cuomo’s Signing of Abortion Bill Sparks Calls for Excommunication

Cuomo’s Signing of Abortion Bill Sparks Calls for Excommunication

Some Catholics are calling on the church to excommunicate New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo in the wake of his signing a bill into law legalizing abortion up until the moment of birth.

Cuomo is Catholic. The Catholic Church’s Code of Canon Law states in Law No. 1398 that “A person who procures a completed abortion incurs alatae sententiae excommunication.” The question is: Would that law apply to Cuomo, who signed a law that will result in the death of unborn babies, even though he didn’t perform them himself?

Several media outlets, including the Catholic News Agency and The Washington Post, have tackled the question.

Matthew Schmitz, a Catholic who is senior editor of First Things Magazine and a columnist at the Catholic Herald, believes Cuomo should be excommunicated. In a Tweet, he called on Cardinal Timothy Dolan of New York to take action

“If we Catholics really believe what we say when we talk about heaven, hell, and the dignity of the unborn, @CardinalDolan should, after exhausting all other means of correction, excommunicate @andrewcuomo,” Schmitz wrote in a Tweet.

An excommunicated person cannot participate in the church’s sacraments.

Others believe the church in New York could stop short of excommunication and instead consider Cuomo “obstinate perseverance” in grave sin. This would prevent him from participating in communion in…

Church supports unpaid workers with $75,000 worth of gift cards

As many as 800,000 federal staff haven’t been paid since last month – because of a row over President Donald Trump’s border wall with Mexico.

In response, pastor Ed Newton from the Community Bible Church (CBC) in Texas challenged members to purchase gift cards for all 376 federal workers at San Antonio’s airport.

Newton told website Fox Antonio that according to officials from the airport, federal workers aren’t allowed to accept cash, or gift cards that exceed $20.

In just three days, the church had bags overflowing with $20 gift cards.

“Today, we stand in front of you, with $75,000 in gift cards,” Newton told federal workers at the airport.

The pastor also expressed gratitude for his church members’ generosity.

He said: “It’s just a demonstration of the heart of San Antonio, and the heart of Community Bible Church.”

All 376 federal workers at San Antonio International Airport received $200 worth of $20 gift cards.

Former Informal Advisor to President Trump Arrested in Muller Investigation

Former Informal Advisor to President Trump Arrested in Muller Investigation

Former informal advisor to President Trump, Roger J. Stone, Jr. was arrested early Friday morning for being a part of the Wikileaks scandal which led to the release of tens of thousands of stolen emails from Democrats, including Hillary Clinton, during the 2016 election campaign.

According to the New York Times, Stone was arrested in the early morning hours in his Fort Lauderdale, FL home, and charged with seven counts by special counsel Robert Muller who is investigating Russia’s interference in the 2016 presidential election and the Trump campaign’s ties to that interference. The indictment states that Stone is being charged with five counts of making false statements, one count of obstructing proceedings and one count of witness tampering.

According to the indictment, “Stone spoke to senior Trump Campaign officials about Organization 1 and information it might have had that would be damaging to the Clinton Campaign.” Organization 1 is the name the media group WikiLeaks – which was responsible for releasing stolen, private documents from Hillary Clinton and the DNC – is referred to by.

After Stone spoke with Trump Campaign officials in the Summer of 2016, Muller found that he “was contacted by senior Trump Campaign officials to inquire about future releases by Organization 1,” the indictment states.

Reportedly, Stone publicly claimed to…

C of E’s General Synod to debate ‘reconciliation’ for nation that is divided

Amid the sometimes toxic mood of the public debate around Britain leaving the EU, the archbishops have led a last-minute change to the agenda of the Church of England’s General Synod in London next month.

It means a special debate, titled The State of the Nation, has been inserted into the schedule on the request of Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby and Archbishop of York John Sentamu.

The motion states: “That this Synod, knowing through the experiences of parishes across the country that social divisions feel more entrenched and intractable than for many years, and concerned at the divisions within the major political parties which are stifling the emergence of a hopeful and viable vision for the common good in our communities.”

It includes a call to see “the voices of the poor and marginalised at the heart of the nation’s concerns” and asks “the nation’s leaders, drawing on Christian hope and reconciliation, to work together for that common good at this time of division”.

There is also a call for every diocese and parish regularly to “hold in prayer” their local MPs, politicians, the Government and civil servants, so they can seek God’s “strength and wisdom for the responsibilities they bear”.

The benefits of working with refugees and asylum seekers who are qualified in medicine, teaching, law or other professions, environmental programmes, evangelism,…
