DCLM Daily Manna 15 January 2019 – Love Marathon

Love-Marathon-dclm-daily-manna-15-January-2019

Topic: Love Marathon [DCLM Daily Manna 15 January 2019 Daily Devotional by Pastor William Folorunso Kumuyi]

Text: John 13:1-15 (KJV)

Key Verse: “Now before the feast of the passover, when Jesus knew that his hour was come that he should depart out of this world unto the Father, having loved his own which were in the world, he loved them unto the end” (John 13:1).

MESSAGE:

Pheidippides, a legendary Greek runner and news-bearer, was said to have run a distance of about 26 miles from Marathon to Athens to announce the victory of Greece over Marathon in 490 BC. As soon as he delivered his message: “Nenikikamen” (We have won), he died. This is how long distance running acquired the term “marathon race”.

Christ’s love for His disciples could be best described as marathon. “Having loved his own which were in the world, he loved them unto the end.” Unlike what happens in a hundred metres dash, which lasts but for a brief moment, He loved them till He physically departed from this world. He chose them out of love, taught them out of love, put up with their shortcomings of out of love and made them what them became out of love. He demonstrated this love by stooping to wash their feet.

The love of Christ for His own did not stop at the point of His crucifixion. He showed Himself to the disciples after His resurrection and treated and admonished them most lovingly. That love has continued till date. He so “loved the church, gave himself for it; That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word, That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; that it should be holy and without blemish” (Ephesians 5:25-27).

If you are one of those who have placed their faith in Christ and saved from sin by His grace, you should be rest assured that Christ loves you with a special love. He is such Lord and Saviour that is touched with the feeling of our infirmities. He cares and is powerful enough to walk you through your earthly struggle and take you to heaven at last.

Thought For The Day: The love of Christ mingled with the love for Christ is the right blend for the Christian.

Seeds of Destiny 15 January 2019 Devotional – Being Sold Out To God

Topic: Being Sold Out To God [Seeds of Destiny 15 January 2019 Devotional]

Scripture: Now the Lord had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father’s house, unto a land that I will shew thee….. So Abram departed, as the Lord had spoken unto him; Genesis 12:1, 4.

Thought For The Day: When your commitment (or dedication) to God is confirmed, His advertisement of your life is automatic.

Dedication to God is a major secret of seeing Divine proofs in life; people who are dedicated to God do not beg Him to prove Himself and His Power in their lives. When your commitment (or dedication) to God is confirmed, His advertisement of your life is automatic.

Now, one definition of dedication is being sold out to God. Like we saw earlier, Abraham was an example of a person who was sold out to God (Genesis 12:1-5).
The question is, what does it mean to be sold out to God?

It is:
i. Allowing God to assume the ownership of your life (Genesis 12:1-5)
One who is dedicated to God does not own his life, time or resources. Dedication to God is allowing God to own you and all that you have.

ii. Allowing God to dictate the direction of your life (Genesis 12:1-5)
Being sold out to God is allowing God to dictate the direction of your life (Genesis 12:1-5). When God dictates the direction of your life, you would not move as you choose or do things as you please. To be sold out to God is allowing God to have the final say over the issues of your life – your work, marriage, ministry, career, academics, etc. It is sacrificing your personal agenda and ambition on the altar of consecration and relationship with God.

Beloved, my counsel is, come to a point of being sold out to God like Abraham and Paul (Genesis 12:1-5, Acts 20:22-24). Allow God to assume the ownership and direction of your life.
Remember this: When your commitment (or dedication) to God is confirmed, His advertisement of your life is automatic.

Assignments:

  1. Surrender your life and resources completely to God.
  2. Make up your mind to discover God’s pathway for your life and follow it always.

Prayer: O Lord, I ask for the grace to hold nothing back from You. Show me Your pathway for my life; I receive Your mercy to follow it, Lord, in Jesus’ Name.

Andrew Wommack Devotional 15 January 2019 – God Looks For Availability

Topic: God Looks For Availability [Andrew Wommack Devotional 15 January 2019]

Luke 2:24, “And to offer a sacrifice according to that which is said in the law of the Lord, A pair of turtledoves, or two young pigeons.”

Text: Luke 2:21-24

The Old Testament passage being quoted is from Lev. 12:6-8. There the Lord commanded a lamb and a young pigeon or a turtledove as the prescribed sacrifice. If the woman was unable to offer a lamb, then two young pigeons or two turtledoves were acceptable. Mary would not have offered the lesser offering if it had been in her power to provide the lamb.

This reveals that Joseph and Mary were not well off financially, yet the Lord chose them to be the earthly parents of His only begotten Son.

The Lord doesn’t choose the way man chooses. Man looks on the outward appearance but God looks on the heart (1 Sam. 16:7).

Mary and Joseph were chosen when they were without: without fame, without position, without money. God entrusted the most precious gift He had to a couple who would surely have been overlooked if men had been conducting the search.

God isn’t looking for ability, but rather availability. D. L. Moody once heard a preacher say, “The world has never seen what God can do with one man who is totally yielded to Him.” In response, D. L. said, “By the grace of God, I’ll be that man.” This uneducated man went on to shake three continents for God.

God will choose you too, if you’ll make yourself available to Him (1 Cor. 1:26-28).

Billy Graham Devotional 15 January 2019 – Lean on the Rock

Topic: Lean on the Rock [Billy Graham Devotional 15 January 2019]

When my heart is overwhelmed: lead me to the rock that is higher than I. — Psalm 61:2

When you become a Christian, it doesn’t mean that you will live on a perpetual “high.” The Psalmist David went down to the very depths, and so did the Apostle Paul. But in the midst of all circumstances God’s grace, peace, and joy are there. The tears will still come, the pressures will be felt, and so will the temptations. But there is a new dimension, a new direction, and a new power in life to face the circumstances in which you live.

Prayer for the day: David and Paul have given me the example of trusting You, Lord, even in the excruciating valleys of life. Like them, I praise You.

Chris Pratt Announces Engagement to Girlfriend Katherine Schwarzenegger

Chris Pratt Announces Engagement to Girlfriend Katherine Schwarzenegger

Outspoken Christian actor Chris Pratt took to Instagram in the early morning hours on Monday to announce that he is getting married.

The Guardians of the Galaxy star posted a tender photo of him holding his now fiancé Katherine Schwarzenegger who is sporting her large diamond engagement ring. Pratt captioned the photo, “Sweet Katherine, so happy you said yes! I’m thrilled to be marrying you.”

He continued, “Proud to live boldly in faith with you. Here we go!”

According to People Magazine, the two have been seeing each other since at least June of last year.

The Christian Post reports that both Schwarzenegger, the daughter of actor and former California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, and Pratt are outspoken about their Christian faith. Schwarzenegger, who grew up Catholic, now attends a non-denominational church and speaks about her Christian faith on her blog.

Pratt, who made headlines in 2018 for his bold faith when he encouraged others to believe in God while accepting several awards, most recently made headlines after he announced that he was participating in the 21-day Biblical Daniel Fast.

American Psychological Association Deems ‘Traditional Masculinity Harmful’

American Psychological Association Deems ‘Traditional Masculinity Harmful’

The American Psychological Association released a set of guidelines for physicians who work with boys and men where they marked traditional masculinity as “harmful.”

According to the APA, traditional masculinity ideology condones behaviors of “anti-femininity, achievement, eschewal of the appearance of weakness, and adventure, risk, and violence.”

Simply put, in an article published by the APA after the release of the Guidelines for Psychological Practice With Boys and Men, “The main thrust of the subsequent research is that traditional masculinity—marked by stoicism, competitiveness, dominance and aggression—is, on the whole, harmful.”

Lifesite News reports that the study finds that if men are “socialized in this way” they are “less likely to engage in healthy behaviors.”

The study notes that traditionally masculine men are less likely to share their emotions, less likely to care for their mental and physical health and are at a higher risk to commit suicide. The guidelines also touch on gender binaries. Ryon McDermott, Ph.D., who helped draft the guidelines asked, “What is gender in the 2010s?” He answered, “It’s no longer just this male-female binary.”

According to the study, traditional masculinity is viewed as a negative thing because men could feel forced to suppress “gender-nonconforming” feelings which can lead…

Open Heaven 15 January 2019 – Staying Connected to Jesus

Open Heaven 15 January 2019 Tuesday Daily Devotional By Pastor E. A. Adeboye – Staying Connected to Jesus

Topic: Staying Connected to Jesus (Open Heaven 15 January 2019)

Memorise: “Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me.”- John 15:4

Read: John 15:1-7 (KJV)

1 I am the true vine, and my Father is the husbandman.

2 Every branch in me that beareth not fruit he taketh away: and every branch that beareth fruit, he purgeth it, that it may bring forth more fruit.

3 Now ye are clean through the word which I have spoken unto you.

4 Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me.

5 I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.

6 If a man abide not in me, he is cast forth as a branch, and is withered; and men gather them, and cast them into the fire, and they are burned.

7 If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you.

Bible in One Year: Mark 1-2, Isaiah 13:1-16

Open Heaven 15 January 2019 Tuesday MESSAGE:

Having received reassurance from the Lord yesterday that we are not alone, we need to reflect on what we need to do to remain connected to Him always. Every child of God must be conscious of the fact that God’s righteousness means He will never renege on His word. His promises such as those in Deuteronomy 31:8 and Matthew 28:20 are sacrosanct. However, there is a possibility of us abandoning God when we are carried away by the lustful desires of this life. An example of someone who deserted God was Demas. Concerning him, in 2 Timothy 4:10, it is written:

“For Demas hath forsaken me, having loved this present world, and is departed unto Thessalonica…”

It is unfortunate that some preachers teach eternal security, saying that once saved, you are always saved. This is a lie of the devil because examples abound of people who abandoned their first love for God or even abandoned God entirely. Judas Iscariot was once numbered among the twelve but he fell away (Acts 1:16-20). The question then is, if Judas who was one of the twelve disciples chosen by Jesus Himself could fall away, who then cannot? We therefore need to be watchful to keep our place in Christ. As seen in today’s memory verse, it is our responsibility to stay connected to Jesus.

Our Bible reading today reveals the danger of not staying connected to Jesus Christ. Anyone who for any reason at all disconnects himself from the Lord will dry up spiritually, and this will affect all other areas of life because the spiritual controls the physical. However, when we stay connected to Jesus, there are bundles of blessings awaiting us. How do we stay connected to Jesus, and what blessings can we derive from doing so? The Lord answers these questions in John 15:7 saying:

“If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you.”

We stay connected to Jesus by abiding in His word. This means modelling our lives to the dictates and principles of His word. You need to back up your every thought and action with His word. Fruitfulness is the portion of those who stay connected to Jesus. In other words, goodness and mercy will be partners of such people. Staying connected to Jesus requires walking intimately with Him. When you do this, His blessing in John 14:27 will be your portion to enjoy. It says:

“Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.”

Benjamin Netanyahu Confirms Airstrike on Syria

Benjamin Netanyahu Confirms Airstrike on Syria

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Sunday that an airstrike by the country had hit hundreds of Iranian and Hezbollah targets in Syria.

Netanyahu confirmed the strike, calling the mission part of the country’s “impressive success” against militants.

“We have operated with impressive success in thwarting Iran from establishing a military foothold in Syria, in the framework of which the military has struck hundreds of times against Iranian and Hezbollah targets,” Netanyahu said.

“In the last 36 hours alone, the air force struck storage facilities with Iranian weapons at the Damascus International Airport. The bulk of recent attacks show how we are more committed than ever to act against Iran in Syria, as we promised.”

According to The Daily Mail, Syria’s official news agency said many of Israel’s missiles were shot down, but an airport warehouse was hit.

Also Sunday, Israeli military said that a sixth tunnel dug by the Lebanese military group had been found. Militants use the tunnels to sneak across the border and launch attacks into Israel.

Military spokesman Lt. Col. Jonathan Conricus said as part of Operation Northern Shield, the final tunnel was the largest found and went from under a Lebanese home into Israeli territory. Conricus said the tunnel would be destroyed soon.

“We have achieved the goal that we set out to achieve,” he said….

Is Call the Midwife Taking a Pro-Abortion Turn in Season 8?

Is Call the Midwife Taking a Pro-Abortion Turn in Season 8?

The latest season of Call the Midwife has a major abortion storyline that is drawing applause from pro-choice viewers and concern from pro-lifers who watch the show.

Season 8 of the popular series debuted Sunday on BBC One and will premier in the U.S. on PBS March 31.

The show, which first aired in 2012, follows the story of London midwives in the 1950s and 1960s, when abortion was illegal. They live in a Catholic convent called “Nonnatus House.”

Although Call the Midwife has tackled the issue of illegal abortion in at least two previous seasons, the subject is more prevalent in Season 8, according to cast and crew members.

The first episode of Season 8 shows an aspiring model named Cath who had undergone an illegal abortion entering Nonnatus House, where she is sheltered by Nurse Valerie Dyer. Cath miscarries at the house as a policeman sits downstairs, drinking tea, according to Radio Times

“It’s a definite theme throughout the series, if you can say abortion is a theme,” actress Jennifer Kirby, who plays Dyer, told Radio Times. “Valerie obviously takes it to heart, because she’s so connected to that community. It’s where she’s from … so the idea that there’s something within the community, that women are having to go to this level – I think she feels it very personally.”

Kirby calls herself pro-choice and says there will be…

Christian medical group outlines opposition to assisted dying ahead of doctors’ vote

The decision could be cited in legal cases or parliamentary debates. Currently, assisting or encouraging someone’s death is illegal under the Suicide Act of 1961.

It’s not the first time the 35,000 members have been asked about this issue.

In 2014, 44.4% of respondents thought the RCP should be opposed to assisted dying, 31% thought it should be neutral or have no stance and 24.6% opted for the RCP being in favour.

The significance of this poll however is that the RCP will adopt a position of ‘neutral’ until two-thirds of the membership vote either way.

Speaking to Premier, Steve Fouch from the Christian Medical Fellowship said: “It is helpful for the Royal Colleges to be able to say ‘we do represent the views of our members’ and it’s quite clear…that the majority of doctors still do not feel comfortable with being involved with assisted dying and would prefer there not to be a change in the law.”

Fouch added that evidence from other countries shows the issue becomes a slippery slope when the law is changed.

He said: “Our worry is once you start to remove the safeguards for one group of people and say, effectively, ‘these lives are not worth saving’ you inevitably get pressure to extend it to other groups of people”.

The poll will ask the following questions via email:

1. What should the RCP’s position be on whether or not there should be a change in the law to permit…
