Priest ‘exchanging letters with jailed extremist Abu Hamza’

In one note, Rev Stephen Coles (pictured below, second in from the right) was invited by the radical cleric to visit him at the so-called supermax Florence jail (pictured) near Colorado Springs.

The vicar of St Thomas the Apostle Church in north London described fondly a summer holiday he took to Spain in another.

He was quoted by the Sunday Times as saying: “One of the oddest things in my life is that I have this odd relationship with somebody like Hamza.

“But better that I should have an odd relationship with him than nobody should have any relationship with him.”

Hamza, who was sentenced to life in prison by a court an American court in 2015 for supporting terrorism, is a former Iman of Finsbury Park mosque – close to Rev Coles’ church.

The two men first came into contact when Rev Coles confronted Hamza after he publicly praised the actions of those behind the September 11th terror attacks in 2001

They went on to stay in touch, with Rev Coles visiting Hamza at Belmarsh prison during a legal battle over whether the Egyptian should be extradited to the US to face trial.

The pair lost contact when Hamza was extradited in 2012. That was until Hamza contacted him last year.

Justin Welby’s prayers for Theresa May on eve of Brexit vote

Archbishop Welby, who last week spoke in in the House of Lords about his concerns around a no-deal Brexit has said that politicians have the “most extraordinarily diffcult job”.

In what is an increasingly fraught and divisive debate, many are predicting that the deal will be voted down, leaving the prospect of a no-deal Brexit as the March 29th deadline for leaving the European Union approaches.

In a wide ranging interview with Premier, Welby reiterated his concerns that a no-deal Brexit would impact the poorest and most vulnerable in society.

The head of the Church of England recently spoke of a no-deal outcome being “not only a political and practical failure, but a moral one” and in the interview he went further to say: “The burden of proof is on those that are arguing for no deal, to show that it will not harm the poorest and most vulnerable.

“They are close to the heart of God in Jesus Christ, so how we care about them and how our politics affects them is a deeply moral issue.”

When asked what his prayer for the Prime Minister and other Members of Parliament would be, he stated: “Politicians have one of the hardest jobs in the world, it is deeply diffcult, and we need to pray for them.

“When I pray for Theresa May and for all of our politicians, with genuine affection and respect, I pray for wisdom, courage and strength for them and their families.

“I pray…

Five Reasons Why “We Pay the Bills” at This Church Is Such a Harmful Attitude

One of the most toxic statements a church member or group of church members can make is, “We pay the bills at this church.” Not only is it unbiblical, it is clearly divisive. It creates an “us versus them” mentality in the church.

Why is the statement so harmful? Here are five reasons.

  1. It makes giving more like paying country club dues than biblical stewardship. Thus, a certain level of giving by a member or a group engenders a sense of entitlement. The people who give with this attitude never really let go of the funds. They continue to hold on to them with strings of conditions.
  2. It is manipulative. In essence, giving becomes a controlling mechanism. If the church doesn’t do what I want it to do, I will withhold my funds. I have known church members and groups of church members that have held onto funds until they finally got their way. At that point, they released the funds to the church. They were truly holding the church hostage.
  3. It becomes a way of circumventing the budget. Most churches approve a budget every year. It becomes the guide for the church to steward the funds given to the congregation. On too many occasions, a malcontent in the church decides he or she doesn’t like the approved plans for spending, so they threaten to withhold their funds. One person told me smugly he knew the church was not spending funds in the best way, so his implied threats to withhold funds were I wonder what he thinks of the biblical story of the widow’s mite (Mark 12:41-44). She gave…

Seeds of Destiny 14 January 2019 Devotional – More Understanding of Dedication

Topic: More Understanding of Dedication [Seeds of Destiny 14 January 2019 Devotional]

Scripture: But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. Matthew 6:33

Thought For The Day: A dedicated person is committed to the advancement of God’s kingdom on earth.

Knowledge, especially spiritual Knowledge, is key to greatness in life. What you become in life is a product of what you know; what you show is a product of what you know. No one can show what he/she does not know.
In the same way, if dedication to God is your priority in life, you need to understand what dedication is all about. This is because the level of your dedication to God is a product of your knowledge of dedication.

Yesterday, we looked at some definitions of dedication. Today, we shall look at more definitions of dedication. Now, what is dedication?
i. Dedication is living for God
To be dedicated to God means living, moving and having your being in God; it is being alive purposely because of God (Acts 17:28).

ii. Dedication is being affectionate for God
A dedicated person is a person who is madly in love with God (Matthew 22:37).

iii. Dedication is existing on fire for God
When we say someone is dedicated to God, we mean that the person is on fire for God (Number 25:7, Romans 12:11).

iv. Dedication is being committed to God and His Kingdom
A dedicated person is committed to the advancement of God’s Kingdom on Earth; he partners with God to do God’s work on Earth (1 Cor. 3:9)

v. Dedication is being serious with God (1 Kings 17:1)
A dedicated person is serious with God while the undedicated are unserious with God.

vi. Dedication is being separated unto God
To be dedicated to God is to be separated unto Him (2 Corinthians 6:14-17).

Beloved, my counsel is, make up your mind to be dedicated to God by practising the points outlined above.

Remember this: A dedicated person is committed to the advancement of God’s kingdom on earth.

Assignments:

  1. Go through the message of today again.
  2. Make up your mind to be dedicated to God by living, being affectionate, existing on fire, being committed, being serious and separated unto God and His cause on earth.

Prayer: O Lord, I ask for the grace to be committed and dedicated to You. Help me to live only for You, Lord in Jesus’ Name.

Get Out Of Evil Caves By Pastor D.K Olukoya

MFM INTERNATIONAL HEADQUARTERS SUNDAY WORSHIP SERVICE
DATE: 13-JANUARY-2019
TOPIC: GET OUT OF EVIL CAVES (A TEACHING SERIES PART 3)
MINISTERING: DR. D.K OLUKOYA (G.O, MFM WORLDWIDE)

Anchored Scriptures: John 14:1, Philippians 4:7, John 14:27, Isaiah 26:3

Message:

About three weeks ago, we began to discuss on the above topic. Last Sunday, we discussed the ten dangerous ‘Ds’ we must be careful of. We also discussed the dangers of discouragement. Some people get discouraged because the way is hard, some people get discouraged because they are looking at the prosperity of the wicked, some get discouraged because of envy.

The truth is this: sometimes we downgrade ourselves. Decide this year that even when the enemy brings discouragement your way, you must encourage yourself in the Lord. The devil knows that discouraged people do not hear the voice of the Lord. Encouragement brings hope, discouragement brings hopelessness.

When you allow discouragement to have you, the person will snatch defeat from certain victory, the person will be drinking the wine of frustration, the person will be advertising the devil’s disgrace. The person will be having faith in failure, there will be plenty of fear.

David came home on day and found out that the enemy has taken his family from him, the Bible said he cried and cried. Later he brushed up himself and shook off discouragement. He asked the Lord that shall I pursue and shall I overtake?

This is a serious situation, when some people are sick, they give up easily.

Discouragement has killed more people than typhoid and malaria. The children of Israel when they were crossing into the promise land, they heard the voice ‘GO’.

Listen beloveth, you must make a conscious effort not to give in to discouragement or allow it to cage you. Don’t wait for someone to come and encourage you. Theses days, there is a scarcity of human beings who want to encourage others. Begin to decree that you will pursue, you will overtake and recover.

When 12 spies went into the land of AI, some came back discouraged and said they were like grasshoppers. Many believers need deliverance from the grasshoppers spirit. I’m tired of deliverance, I’m tired of laying hands on myself, I’m tired of paying tithe: in the key of encouragement, Don’t be tired, keep at it. Instead of being discouraged, make a conscious effort that you won’t be discouragement. You need to stand against evil expectation. Acts 16. Philippians 4:7, Isaiah 26:3

The greatest medicine against discouragement is the peace of God. It is the birthright of every Christian. Isaiah 26:3. Peace is a condition of calm happiness, it’s more quiet and lasting than joy. Peace is resting in the Lord. It’s divine calmness. It’s in the face of all kind of challenges/adversities, you look to the face of the Lord and praise Him.
The thing is this: the more you worry, the more the problem become. Worry makes defeat out of success. Worry keeps you so busy and so hardworking that there is no reward in it.

Be addicted to 7 things, the enemy will not be able to get around you:

  1. Get addicted to your quiet time. Never jump out of your house without spending g some quiet time before the Lord. There is a devotional now, not just reading the devotional, pray other prayers. Learn the principle of commanding your day. The people of the other religion, scream and pray some enchantment into the sky before many of us wakes up. Some are not even praying at all or observing quiet time, what you are doing is to write letter to discouragement.
  2. You should be addicted to reading of the Bible. Let the word be like honey that you eat. You should be an addict to the word of God. It’s not nice to you as a believer that you’re asked to pray in a public place and you cannot pray. It’s a terrible thing when you have Bible poverty, biblical illiteracy. When the only place you read is psalm, you don’t learn memory verse; it’s a serious concern. It’s a very powerful thing when we say ‘it is written’. It’s a tragedy when you don’t know your Bible, it’s a tragedy when you’re just calling prayer point. The devil will study you and he will come and attack on a day you cannot memories the scripture to address a certain situation. Don’t let anyone deceive you that there are no powers of darkness. The magicians that face Moses and turned rod to serpents, where did they get their powers from? We as Christian have an overcoming power. There is power in the word: ‘it is written’. Jesus faces the devil with it is written.
  3. Be a prayer addict.
  4. Fasting.
  5. Sacrificial giving.
  6. Praises. Spend time praising God.
  7. Witnessing. Tell others about Christ. Win souls for the kingdom.

GREATER GLORY FAST – DAY 7 – 13TH JANUARY 2019
ANCHOR SCRIPTURE(S): ACTS 2:46–47; 5:42
MESSAGE TOPIC: DEDICATION TO THE HOUSE OF GOD
BY: DR. PAUL ENENCHE

SERVICE OBJECTIVES:

  1. Understanding the virtues or profit of dedication to the House of God
  2. Understanding the practical action of dedication to the House of God

One of the hallmarks of dedicated people throughout scripture and throughout history was their dedication or addiction to the House of God. Passion for God is always translated into passion for the House of God

SCRIPTURAL EXAMPLES OF DEDICATED PEOPLE THAT WERE ADDICTED TO THE HOUSE OF GOD:

  1. David (Ps. 27:4; 122:1; 84:10)
  2. Joshua (Ex. 33:11)
  3. Paul the Apostle (Acts 17:1-2; Heb. 10:25)
  4. The disciples (Acts 2:46; 5:42)
  5. The Master Jesus (Luke 2:46; 4:16)

THE VIRTUES OR PROFIT OF DEDICATION TO THE HOUSE OF GOD:

  1. The House of God is the place of Divine encounters (Gen. 28:12-13, 16-17; Ex.3:1-2; Isa. 2:2;Obad. 1:17; Lk. 1:5-13)
  2. The House of God is a place of spiritual and supernatural strength (Ps. 84:7; 110:2; Isa. 52:1-2)
  3. The House of God is a place of revelation and illumination (Ps. 73:17)
It is a place where you get clarification
  4. The House of God is the place of refuge and preservation (Ps. 27:4-5; Acts 4:23; 12:5; Heb. 12:22-24; Ps. 34:7)
  5. The House of God is the place of Blessing and flourishing (Ps. 92:12-13; Ps. 133:1-3; Obad. 1:17)
You don’t run from church to jam blessing
  6. The House of God is the place of wholeness and deliverance (Obad. 1:17; Matt. 21:14; Luke 13:11-13)
It is the place where chains are broken and deliverance is received
If your affliction cannot stop your dedication to God, then your dedication to God will sooner or later swallow up your affliction!
  7. The House of God is the place of commitment and consecration (Heb. 10:25-26; Ps. 89:7; Prov. 8:13)
Every time you hang around the House of God, iron sharpens iron
The best of man comes out in the Presence of God and the worst of man is released outside of God

OUR PRACTICAL ACTION OF DEDICATION TO THE HOUSE OF GOD:

  1. Be planted in the House of God (Ps.92:12-13)
Don’t remain a permanent visitor, spectator or stranger in the House of God; be involved!
For Church to affect your life, you must be committed
  2. Be faithful to your Kingdom appointments (Acts 2:46;Matt. 6:33)
Don’t allow things to come in between you and your commitment to service
Let not distance stop you; the House of your Father can never be too far
Don’t let business appointments with a mortal man interfere with your appointment with God (Matt. 6:33)
Don’t let Christian television interfere with your physical connection to the House
To get apostolic results, we must follow apostolic patterns
  3. Be committed to the Church in the House (Acts 2:46; 5:42)
House fellowship or Home cell is not a church doctrine, it is a scriptural ordinance and pattern. To follow the pattern of God, is see the results of God.

CONCLUSION:

  1. Commitment to God and to His House is profitable both for time and for eternity
  2. It is not a waste of time or life to be committed to God and His House

TREM Devotional 14 January 2019 – You Belong To The Family Of God

Topic: You Belong To The Family Of God [TREM Devotional 14 January 2019]

“Now, therefore, ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellow citizens with the saints, and of the household of God”. Ephesians 2:19 KJV

In Matthew 4:3, when the devil came to tempt Jesus, he said to him, “if thou be the son of God…”. This was after God the Father had just said: “This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased” (Matthew 3:17 KJV). The devil wanted Jesus to suffer from ‘identity crisis,’ that is why he said to Him ‘if thou be’. In other words, are you sure that you are the Son of God? The only proof to show that you are the Son of God is to turn stone to bread. Child of God, don’t wait for something to happen before you know that you are His son. That is the trick the devil plays against us. He would tell you, if you are truly the son of God, how come the baby hasn’t come or how come you are not yet healed? Beloved, you have been a child of God before the baby issue

You should run based on whom you know and not on the devil’s own terms. You shouldn’t be running based on what he is telling you, but on whom you know! When I hear that believers are running from house to house, from pillar to post and from church to church, all in search for deliverance, it just shows how ignorant they are. All that such people need is a revelation. You may say, “but Brother Mike, you know they said that the issue runs in our family”. My question is, which family? Which family are you really talking about? Are you talking about Okonkwo’s family? No! You belong to the family of God and nothing evil runs in the family of God.

Stop letting people make merchandise of you. Stop letting people intimidate and manipulate you. Jumping from one ‘deliverance house’ to the other can make you end up imbibing demonic spirits, and you would be wondering how you got it. It is because you entered into error!

MFM Daily Devotional 14 January 2019 – Don’t Be A Miserable Comforter

MFM Mountain Top Life Daily Devotional 14 January 2019 By Dr. D.K Olukoya – Don’t Be A Miserable Comforter

TOPIC: Don’t Be A Miserable Comforter (Mountain Of Fire and Miracle Ministries, MFM Daily Devotional 14 January 2019)

FIRE SCRIPTURE: Job 2:11-13

Bible In One Year: Genesis 33-35; Matthew 10:1-20

MEMORY VERSE: “Judge not, that ye be not judged.” – Matthew 7:1

The MESSAGE:

The Bible calls Job’s friends miserable comforters. What is the reason for this uncomplimentary description? Though Job’s friends spent time with him during his trials and travails, they did very little or nothing to solve his problem or alleviate his pain. Job’s friends discussed, analysed and even gossiped about the possible causes of Job’s affliction. None of them prayed for him in his closet, neither did they gather to intercede for him corporately. Another reason Job’s friends were described as miserable comforters is that while God could flaunt Job’s credentials as the most righteous person on earth, even to the devil, Job’s friends kept attributing his ordeals to sin. Beloved, it is not every trial, affliction or persecution a believer faces that is due to sin. Job’s sickness and trials as well as Zechariah’s and Elizabeth’s childlessness, the apostles’ persecution are good cases in point. Job’s friends earned the uncomplimentary remark “miserable comforters” because rather than truly comfort Job and seek permanent solution to his travails, they only engaged in worthless blame game, roundtable discussion and gossiping. All these added no value to Job’s life nor improved his condition.

Beloved, when a believer has a problem or is passing through an ordeal, see it as light affliction (2 Corinthians 4:17). Heaven must have permitted it for a purpose. Your duty as a fellow believer is to stand in the gap individually by praying for God’s intervention in that situation. The prayer you pray for that person in your closet can move the hand of God on the person’s behalf. You can also organise corporate prayer for the person. Make sure that the words you speak to the person are seasoned with salt, encouraging, comforting, faith-building and soul-lifting. These are the words that will make your presence in the person’s life count. The words of Job’s friends lacked all these qualities.

Tale bearing, gossiping and blame game will not help a believer in adversity or problem. Wrong advice like telling the person to deny God or seek solution in ungodly sources is not the answer. Your constant prayer and intercession, godly counsel, words of comfort and encouragement, among others are what the person needs. Remember that when Peter was imprisoned by Herod and death sentence was hanging on Peter’s head, the Church rose to the occasion. They prayed and God sent an angel who miraculously delivered Peter from the prison and the jaws of death. Note that when the Church did not pray for James’ release, Herod succeeded in killing him. But when the Church prayed for Peter, heaven intervened, saved and released him. Also, Jesus perceived the agenda of the enemy for Peter and prayed for him (Luke 21:31-32). Beloved, your prayer is what counts in the life of a brother or sister facing an ordeal or challenge. Heaven will record and reward the quality time you spend in interceding and praying for that person as well as the words of encouragement, godly counsel and comfort you speak. Don’t join the train of tale bearers, gossips and ungodly analysts who add no value but only compound the problem. You will not be a miserable comforter, in Jesus’ name.

MOTIVATIONAL QUOTE:
WHEN YOU GO THROUGH A DARK TIME AND CAN’T SEE ANY LIGHT AHEAD, YOUR TRUE FRIENDS WILL SHINE LIKE DIAMONDS.

PROPHETIC WORD:
Henceforth, your words and entire life shall build up and pull down others, inspire and not discourage.

PRAYER POINTS:

MORNING

  1. Father, make me a faith-builder, not a faith-destroyer, in the name of Jesus.
  2. Father, give me the grace to bear other believers’ burden, in the name of Jesus.
  3. Father, teach and help me to demonstrate Your perfect love to others, in the name of Jesus.
    EVENING
  4. I refuse to be a miserable comforter, in the name of Jesus.
  5. My Father, surround me with Spirit-filled, anointed and praying companions, in the name of Jesus.
  6. My words shall be seasoned with salt and grace to lift the soul of the discouraged, in the name of Jesus.
  7. Father, give new hearts to all miserable comforters, gossips and tale bearers, in the name of Jesus.

DCLM Daily Manna 14 January 2019 – Frustrated By Failure?

Topic: Frustrated By Failure? [DCLM Daily Manna 14 January 2019 Daily Devotional by Pastor William Folorunso Kumuyi]

Text: Exodus 5:15-23 (KJV)

Key Verse: “And Moses returned unto the LORD, and said, Lord, wherefore hast thou so evil entreated this people? why is it that thou hast sent me? For since I came to Pharaoh to speak in thy name, he hath done evil unto this people; neither hast thou delivered thy people at all” (Exodus 5:22,23).

MESSAGE:

Imagine the kind of crushing feeling you have when you know you have fully prepared for a project or a task, but failed woefully or met a serious resistance at first attempt.

Moses and the elders of Israel did not expect to meet the kind of reaction they got from Pharaoh, nor were they prepared for it. Not with the kind of assurance he had received from his miraculous encounter with God and the many other signs he has given. Buoyed with these and the encouraging acceptance from the elders of Israel, Moses and Aaron marched confidently to Pharaoh to present their demand. But Pharaoh reacted in rage. He claimed not to know the God they were talking about and swore not to let them step out of Egypt. To worsen things, he decided to give them tougher tasks and increased their hardship. This not being what they bargained for, the elders of Israel poured their frustration on Moses, wishing he had never come up with the idea of leaving in the first place. Moses too could not hide his pain and frustration as he wished he was never sent on such a mission.

The experiences of most Christians may not be different from that of Moses. They may experience tough resistance or failure in ministry, marriage, career of business. But for the latter experiences of Moses, they should learn not to allow initial disappointment or opposition to seal their fate. Most good projects meet with initial failures. What you need is the staying power to remain resilient and steadfast.

Like Moses, if you go back to God with your feeling, you are sure to bounce back with renewed strength and courage to press on until you succeed. Don’t let first failure frustrate you. You can still succeed if you press on in faith.

Thought For The Day: That you failed once does not mean you will fail again; never give up.
