Open Heaven 13 January 2019 – As Pure as Light

Open Heaven 13 January 2019 Sunday Daily Devotional By Pastor E. A. Adeboye – As Pure as Light

Topic: As Pure as Light (Open Heaven 13 January 2019)

Memorise: “Now the end of the commandment is charity out of a pure heart, and of a good conscience, and of faith unfeigned:”- 1 Timothy 1:5

Read: Philippians 4:4-9 (KJV)

4 Rejoice in the Lord alway: and again I say, Rejoice.

5 Let your moderation be known unto all men. The Lord is at hand.

6 Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.

7 And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

8 Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.

9 Those things, which ye have both learned, and received, and heard, and seen in me, do: and the God of peace shall be with you.

Bible in One Year: Matthew 26, Isaiah 10:20-11:5

Open Heaven 13 January 2019 Sunday MESSAGE:

26 And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth. 27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.” – Genesis 1:26-27

There are many lessons we can learn from this scripture, first of which is that if man was created in God’s image, and we know that God is pure, it then follows that man was created to be pure. Secondly, man was created to have dominion over all other elements of God’s creation on earth. This means that the earth and its creatures have no capacity to corrupt the purity in man if man does not allow it. In other words, it is a lie for the devil to suggest that God’s creation can bring forth corruption. Only in the case of abuse can this be possible. Abuse refers to the abnormal use of a thing. A lack of knowledge of the purpose of a thing makes one to use it abnormally. For example, it is the abnormal use of wealth and knowledge that makes people recreate the body parts God has blessed them with. Some people even go to the extent of plucking out their teeth, replacing them with precious metal or gems! This is wrong use of their bodies and precious resources. The abuse of God’s creations, which are meant for His glory, has led to the corruption of mankind. This is the reason why God is admonishing us in today’s Bible text to be moderate in our use of all things.

We need to be sincere with ourselves when answering some pertinent questions concerning the characteristic traits of the end-times. As a Christian, is your moderation not becoming questionable, even to unbelievers? Do you still have the consciousness of the Lord’s imminent return? It is doubtful a lot of Christians still have this consciousness in them because a look at their lifestyle tells you that they are no longer thinking of those things that are pure. The Holy Spirit is reminding us in today’s memory verse that the end of God’s commandment is love out of a pure heart. Manifesting God’s type of love will keep us as pure as light. May God help us to live the way He created us to live before the fall in Jesus’ Name. The good news is that the second Adam, Jesus Christ, has made this possible through His atoning work on the Cross (1 Corinthians 15:20-22). Hallelujah!

Open Heaven 13 January 2019 Sunday Action Point:

If you are not living a pure life, surrender your life to Jesus Christ today so that He can change your impurity to purity through His Blood.

Open Heaven 13 January 2019 Sunday Hymn 5: Let Others See Jesus In You

1. While passing thro’ this world of sin,
and others your life shall view,
Be clean and pure without, within;
Let others see Jesus in you.

Chorus:
Let others see Jesus in you,
Let others see Jesus in you.
Keep telling the story, be faithful and true;
Let others see Jesus in you.

2. Your life’s a book before their eyes,
They’re reading it thro’ and thro’
Say, does it point them to the skis,
Do others see Jesus in you?

3. Then live for Christ both day and night,
Be faithful, be brave and true,
and lead the lost to life and Christ.
Let others see Jesus in you.

Baptist minister walks away from plane crash in ‘miracle’ escape

Paul White had to be rescued in Queensland, Australia when his two-seater Jabiru came down in Auburn State Forest earlier this week.

The 66-year-old from Derby in Western Australia (WA) told The West Australian newspaper: “I think the Lord used a dozen angels up on me yesterday and I’m just very thankful to be alive.”

The grandfather-of-ten, who is an experienced pilot working for the Kingdom Air ministry in WA, thinks his aircraft suffered an engine failure before the crash.

He continued: “Being a man of faith and loving the Lord, and being a Baptist minister and full-time chaplain, I naturally give all the credit to God.

RACQ LifeFlight Rescue

“I look at that plane and I shouldn’t be alive.”

Mr White was able to activate an emergency position indicating radio beacon, enabling the rescue services to identify his location.

Shayne White from the LifeFlight Rescue Helicopter, which responded to the crash, said: “He’s very lucky.

“Some of these scenes that we go to with those sorts of impacts come to a much worse outcome”.

Why Giving Stays Strong While Attendance Drops in Churches — Sam Rainer

I’ve noticed a recent trend among churches. The evidence is more anecdotal, but I have no doubt the phenomenon is occurring on a national scale. While more than half of all churches are in some form of attendance decline, a segment of these declining churches experiences either stability in giving or an increase in giving at the same time people are leaving.

10 Hilarious Requests Made at Christian Bookstores — Facts & Trends

Between praying with customers, outfitting them with biblical resources, and helping people navigate difficult issues along life’s journey, it was refreshing to break up some of the more serious moments with a laugh. Here are 10 of the more interesting requests I heard as a Christian bookstore manager:

How Has Women’s Ministry Changed Over Time?Chris Adams

Because everything is changing in our world so quickly. Women are changing, culture is changing. And that way we have to continue to keep the ministry changing to reach more and more women for Him.

8 Signs that You’re Leading on the DefensiveChuck Lawless

In a football game, the defense matters. In the local church, though, being on the defensive as a church leader is not a strong posture for leading. Check these markers of leading on the defensive, and see if any characterizes you.

Joyce Meyer admits her prosperity and faith views ‘got out of balance’

Meyer, who has delivered sermons around the world and written more than 100 books, said she once believed hardships were the result of someone lacking faith.

In a sermon video clip posted on Instagram, the 75-year-old said: “I’m glad for what I learned about prosperity, but it got out of balance. I’m glad for what I’ve learned about faith, but it got out of balance.

“Every time somebody had a problem in their life, [I believed] it was because they didn’t have enough faith.

“If you got sick you, didn’t have enough faith. If your child died, you didn’t have enough faith,”

“Well, that’s not right! There is nowhere in The Bible where we’re promised we will never have any trouble.

“I don’t care how much faith you have, you’re not going to avoid ever having trouble in your life.

“Jesus said, ‘in the world, you will have tribulation [but] cheer up, I have overcome the world.'”

A report published in 2003 by the St Louis-Post Dispatch that Meyer’s ministry owned a $10 million plane and $2 million home brought into question her personal views on the prosperity-gospel message and the organisation’s financial dealings.

Joyce Meyer Ministries was forced in 2007 to defend its “high standard of fiscal responsibility” when it became one of six Christian organisations whose finances were investigated by a Republican senator.

Chris Pratt opens up about his Bible-inspired fast

The Hollywood actor jokingly said abstaining from foods including meat, dairy, eggs and solid fats could affect his performance during promotional interviews from his latest movie.

In a video posted on Instagram, he said: “Check it out, it’s 21 days of prayer and fasting. It’s going to coincide, coincidentally, with the Lego Movie 2 junkets, so by the time you see me, I’ll probably be hallucinating.”

Described by its creators as a biblical fast “to deny food for a spiritual purpose”, the Daniel Fast has proven particularly popular in the United States.

They expect “hundreds of thousands” of believers around the world to mark January with a fast of some kind.

One maker of Daniel Fast welcomed the publicity Chris Pratt’s announcement has generated about the programme.

National Cancer Institute/Wikimedia Commons

They said: “The great news for all of us in this community is that the news outlets are all linking to this site and quoting the truths about the fast from here.

“Some are referring to the fast as a diet, a common error when people don’t understand spiritual fasting.

“But I’m thankful that God is getting the glory as He is raised up and many may be inspired to look to Him and Christ’s amazing love.”

Participants only eat foods grown from the seed; fruit, vegetables, whole grains, legumes (chick peas, lentils…

UK EXCLUSIVE – Christian baker: ‘I am personally prepared’ to take transgender cake case to top court

Jack Phillips – owner of the Masterpiece Cakeshop in Lakewood, Colorado – is being sued by state officials who allege he broke discrimination laws by refusing to make a cake celebrating transgenderism.

He successfully defended his right to decline a request that he cater for a same-sex wedding during a high-profile case against the Colorado Civil Rights Commission (CCRC) at the nation’s highest court last summer.

Asked whether he was prepared for his latest legal battle involving the Commission to reach the US Supreme Court, he said: “The first fight was worth the fight and this one is too. The cases are so similar.”

The CCRC began new legal proceeding against Phillips after he refused in 2017 to decorate a cake celebrating the gender transition of lawyer Autumn Scardina.

Alliance Defending Freedom

The Commission deemed there was “probable cause” to believe he was legally obliged to produce the cake – which would have been blue on the outside and pink in the middle.

But, earlier this month, a federal district court gave Phillips the go-ahead to counter-sue the State of Colorado on the grounds of hostility against him and his religious beliefs.

Alliance Defending Freedom

During a high-profile case at the US Supreme Court last summer, justices ruled – with seven votes to two – that Phillips was within his rights in 2012 to…

‘Seek and ye shall find’, new rail adverts appeal to single Christians looking for love

Faith-based dating website Christian Connection says January marks the “busiest time in the dating calendar” and its membership typically doubles at the beginning of the year.

Joff Williams from the firm said: “For many Christians seeking a partner, it can be really important to find someone who shares their faith.

“But people lead such busy lives and with church attendance dropping, it’s hard to know where to start”.

The campaign includes three poster designs which are appearing on the London Underground and Manchester Metrolink during January.

Christian Connection

Referencing to Matthew 7:7, one says “See and ye shall find (if you’re looking in the right place)”, while another reads “In the beginning… (Adam and Eve didn’t need a dating app)”.

Christian Connection

Joff Williams continued: “We see membership numbers almost double in January, so it’s a great time to step out of your comfort zone and meet someone new.

Christian Connection

“But whether you’re a Christian or not, single or otherwise, we hope this campaign will put a smile on your face at a time when we all need a little bit of positivity in our lives.”

MFM Daily Devotional 12 January 2019 – Moving The Hand Of God

MFM Mountain Top Life Daily Devotional 12 January 2019 By Dr. D.K Olukoya – Moving The Hand Of God

TOPIC: Moving The Hand Of God (Mountain Of Fire and Miracle Ministries, MFM Daily Devotional 12 January 2019)

FIRE SCRIPTURE: Matthew 8:5-13

Bible In One Year: Genesis 29-30; Matthew 9:1-17

MEMORY VERSE: “For all those things hath mine hand made, and all those things have been, saith the LORD: but to this man will I look, even to him that is poor and of a contrite spirit, and trembleth at my word.” – Isaiah 66:2

The MESSAGE:

Many believers keep wondering why some people get speedy attention from God while others struggle without anything to show for their efforts. This has made some people to think that it is human efforts or ability, without realising that God has a way of downplaying the wisdom of man. He has a way of using the things we count for foolishness to confound the wise. What about riches? All the cattle on the hills belong to Him. That was why He said, “For all those things hath mine hand made, and all those things have been, saith the LORD: but to this man will I look, even to him that is poor and of a contrite spirit, and trembleth at my word (Isaiah 66:2). It takes a man with the Holy Spirit to have a “contrite heart”. It seems that a number of us who are called Christians have unwittingly, substituted self-effort for the Holy Spirit. We seem to look to ourselves for answers, rather than sending our petitions to God through the prayer of faith with the help of the Holy Spirit.

In the Fire Scripture for today, we read this “When Jesus heard (the man), He marvelled and said to them that followed Him, Verily I say unto you, I have not found so great faith, no, not in Israel.” The reason for His being marvelled was that He saw what He expected to see in the life of His followers and those who claimed to know God in the life of someone who was seen as ungodly. You too can do what that centurion did by believing that He is able to do all things. After all, He is the God of all flesh who is not limited by anything.

Beloved, you can move the hand of God into working on your behalf if you activate your faith. God has deposited a measure of faith you need for exploits in you. It is this faith that draws your heart to God in salvation. God is waiting for us to put Him into action in our lives and any situation that confronts us. He expects us to call on Him, because He is ready to answer. Jesus commanded us to move God into action in Matthew 7:7-8. He stated categorically there that whoever asks, believing, shall receive, and those who trust in the Lord will never be put to shame. Jesus also commanded us to ask until our joy is full. Ask in faith and not wavering; He shall speedily answer: Therefore, have faith in God for all things are possible to him that believes.

MOTIVATIONAL QUOTE:
IT TAKES A MAN WITH THE HOLY SPIRIT AND FAITH TO MOVE THE HAND OF GOD.

PROPHETIC WORD:
May your faith in God provoke the council of heaven into deciding quickly to intervene in your situation today.

PRAYER POINTS:

MORNING

  1. Holy Ghost fire, melt away every spiritual blindness in my life, in the name of Jesus.
  2. Holy Ghost, pump favour into my life, in the name of Jesus.
  3. Every dry bone in my spiritual life, receive the fire of the God of Elijah, in the name of Jesus.
    EVENING
  4. Faith that achieves the impossible, fall upon my life, in the name of Jesus.
  5. Every plantation of darkness blocking my spiritual pipe, Holy Ghost fire, flush it out, in the name of Jesus.
  6. My Father, my Father, my Father, let me experience the bulldozing power of the God of Elijah, in the name of Jesus.

Our Daily Bread 12 January 2019 Devotional – Plight of the Crawdads

Topic: Plight of the Crawdads [Our Daily Bread 12 January 2019 Devotional]

Bible in a Year: Genesis 31–32; Matthew 9:18–38

Always strive to do what is good for each other and for everyone else. – 1 Thessalonians 5:15

Today’s Scripture & Insight: 1 Thessalonians 5:11-18

When my cousin invited me to join him to fish for crawdads (crayfish), I couldn’t help but be excited. I grinned when he handed me a plastic pail. “No lid?”

“You won’t need one,” he said, picking up the fishing rods and the small bag of chicken chunks we’d use for bait.

Later, as I watched the small crustaceans climbing over one another in a futile attempt to escape the almost-full bucket, I realized why we wouldn’t need a lid. Whenever one crawdad reached the rim, the others would pull it back down.

The plight of the crawdads reminds me how destructive it is to be selfishly concerned about our own gain instead of the benefit of a whole community. Paul understood the need for uplifting, interdependent relationships when he wrote to the believers in Thessalonica. He urged them to “warn those who are idle and disruptive, encourage the disheartened, help the weak,” and “be patient with everyone” (1 Thessalonians 5:14).

Commending their caring community (v. 11), Paul spurred them toward even more loving and peaceful relationships (vv. 13–15). By striving to create a culture of forgiveness, kindness, and compassion, their relationships with God and others would be strengthened (vv. 15, 23).

The church can grow and witness for Christ through this kind of loving unity. When believers honor God, committing to lift others up instead of pulling them down with words or actions, we and our communities thrive.
