Joyce Meyer Admits That What She Thought about Prosperity and Faith ‘Got Out of Balance’

Television Pastor and Christian author Joyce Meyer posted a video on Instagram Tuesday where she admitted that she had gotten some of it wrong in regard to prosperity gospel and faith.

According to Relevant Magazine, the preacher, who many call a prosperity gospel teacher, said in the video of her sermon that what she learned about faith and prosperity “got out of balance.”

Meyer said, “I’m glad for what I learned about prosperity, but it got out of balance. I’m glad for what I learned about faith, but it got out of balance.”

She continued, “So, every time someone had a problem in their life it was ‘cause they didn’t have enough faith. If you got sick, you didn’t have enough faith. If your child died, you didn’t have enough faith.”

“Well, that’s not right,” she added.

Meyer went on to note that the Bible does not promise Christians that they will have it easy in life.

She argued, “I don’t care how much faith you’ve got, you’re not gonna avoid ever having trouble in your life.”

“Jesus said, ‘In the world, there will be tribulation. Cheer up, I have overcome the world,” she added.

The video which has now been viewed more than 100,000 times has received vast support.

One Instagram user, Mylestan, commented on the video saying, “God honors a repentant and humble heart who can…

Another Christian bookstore to close

Christian Literature Crusade (CLC) has announced its store in Ipswich shall cease trading from Wednesday 30th January.

Commercial director Jamie Hill told the East Anglian Daily Times: “We are not finished with Ipswich yet but, for now, things have to change and the store must close which really saddens me.”

CLC said reduced footfall had made things “hard” for the store, with more people using the internet to peruse Christian books and study materials instead.

Workers at the branch, which opened on St Matthew’s Street during the mid-1980s, have waivered salaries to help run the shop.

CLC also suggested a shortage of volunteers – with one worker set to retire – also contributed to the decision to close.

Jamie Hill added: “Penny is one of those volunteers who has waived her salary to run the shop and has done an amazing job.

“But with no one to take her place we have to shut, we will be looking down other avenues.”

Numerous bricks-and-mortar Christian bookshops across the UK have closed during recent years. The Wesley Own chain closes its last physical branches in 2014.

Chaplain criticises ‘sexist’ Monopoly game

Tracey Allen, lay chaplain at the University of Suffolk, bought the game over Christmas.

She said on Twitter that she was disappointed to find it showed men in mortarboards and gowns walking through Oxford’s streets, and women in a punt being pushed along by a man.

She accused the board game’s makers of “everyday sexism” and asked, “do women not graduate from Oxford?”

She called on the makers to update the game.

Players of Monopoly have previously complained that some aspects of the game were outdated – for example, its Star Wars edition in 2015 was criticised for not including Rey, a central female character.

Hasbro makes Monopoly but the Oxford edition is made in partnership with another games company, Winning Moves and has been on sale since 2001.

A spokesman for Winning Moves told the Times the pictures supplied were random and from an agency and it would be looked at.

Seven Ways Revitalizing Churches Can Reach a Changing Labor Force

SUBSCRIBE TODAY: iTunes • RSS • Stitcher • TuneIn Radio • Google Play

The labor force is changing. Is your church adapting? Today we discuss practical ways your church can see revitalization through meeting the needs of those in the community.

Today’s Listener Question from Tom:

One thing I’ve noticed about our church as we’ve moved toward revitalization is the change in when and how people are working. Many of our current members only know and have worked a traditional work schedule, but the people they want to reach now work non-traditional jobs. How do we navigate this?

Some highlights from today’s episode:

  • Churches with unused space during the week should consider the possibility of turning some of the space into co-working space for self-employed people in the community.
  • Senior adult ministry has radically changed in the past 20 years.
  • There are probably a lot of people in your community who would like to come to your church on Sunday mornings but work prevents them from doing so.
  • Sunday evening services may be coming back as duplicate services of Sunday mornings.

The seven ways that we discuss are:

  1. 44 million people work are self-employed or work for the self-employed (Idea: co-working at the church)
  2. 10 million older adults (age 65 or older) are working. (Idea: Training for older adults)
  3. 102 million people work in the service sector (Idea: Alternative worship days)
  4. 14 million single parents are raising 22 million children (Idea: adopt a family)
  5. There are over 2…

‘God wanted me to be afraid’, England rugby star speaks of comeback

The rugby player, regarded as one of England’s best, made his return to the sport over the weekend after suffering three arm breaks in just over a year.

Despite scoring a try he was unable to prevent his club side, Saracens, losing to Sale.

Vunipola says on previous returns from injury his confidence was counter-productive and often saw him injured straight away.

Speaking to the Telegraph, he said this time it was different: “I was a bit tentative and anxious – I readily admit that now.

“Before I was a bit naive that I could fall straight into it, whereas now I am a bit more prepared. And scared as well. Not of being injured, but the process of coming back is the hardest thing. Hopefully this weekend I can be better, then next weekend, then see when you go from there.

“That is probably my faith. I think God wanted me to be afraid. Before I was so confident I would be all right. I guess a bit too confident to the point that ‘I’m invincible’. That’s why I got injured again. So I’m trying to find my feet.”

Vunipola’s return to rugby is timely for the national team as they head into the Six Nations tournament in February.

University bans Chick-fil-A from campus

The New York Daily News responded to President Trump’s Oval Office address on border security with a cover depicting the president as a screaming baby in a temper tantrum. The headline reads: “It’s Wall About Me.” Talk show hosts and Hollywood celebrities also panned the president’s remarks.

Chuck Schumer and Nancy Pelosi came in for ridicule as well. After their response to the president’s speech, one critic likened them to “the creepy twins from The Shining.”

Are you surprised by any of this?

In other news, Rider University in New Jersey recently asked students what fast-food restaurant they would like to see on campus. Once it became clear that Chick-fil-A was their choice, the school’s leaders excluded this option, citing concerns over the company’s alleged attitudes toward the LGBTQ community.

Chick-fil-A’s spokesman responded: “We have no policy of discrimination against any group.”

Clearly, Rider University’s leaders cannot say the same.

“Our iniquities have risen higher than our heads”

We can respond to our divisive, post-Christian culture in one of three ways: we can condemn those who disagree with us, we can condone behavior the Bible forbids, or we can speak the truth with compassion.

Here’s why God’s people should always choose the third option.

After the Jews returned from their Babylonian exile, some of them married Gentile women, a clear violation of God’s word (cf. Exodus 34:11-16). Ezra, their priestly leader, was a man of impeccable personal integrity (cf. Ezra 7:10). Nonetheless, when he learned of the people’s sin, he prayed: “O my God, I am ashamed and blush to lift my face to you, my God, for our iniquities have risen higher than our heads, and our guilt has mounted up to the heavens” (Ezra 9:6, my italics).

Note Ezra’s remarkable solidarity with his people. Even though he had not committed their sins, he identified with their need to repent.

When the children of Israel worshiped a…

Oxford clergy clash over advice on sexuality

Over 100 church leaders have written a response to four bishops in the diocese about their advice on welcoming LGBT people and the bishops have written a joint response back.

The original document, ‘Clothe Yourselves With Love’ written in October 2018 by Rt Rev Dr Steven Croft (Oxford), Rt Rev Colin Fletcher (Dorchester), Rt Rev Dr Alan Wilson (Buckingham) and Rt Rev Andrew Proud (Reading) says: “we want to encourage, above all, an attitude of inclusion and respect for LGBTI+ people across the Diocese of Oxford” and acknowledges that many have different views on the matter.

It reads: “We are concerned to listen well to LGBTI+ people from a variety of perspectives including both those seeking change in the Church of England’s polity and those seeking to to live faithfully within it”.

The response, called ‘Letter from Concerned Anglicans in the Oxford Diocese’ is signed by clergy such as Vaughan Roberts and Sam Alberry, who would say they experience same-sex attraction but remain celibate, as well as other ministers, lay people and retired clergy.

They said they have concerns with what they see as ambiguous language in the letter, such as whether ‘inclusion’ means welcoming people who act on an LGBT identity into leadership at every level and what it means in terms of the teaching of the Church of England.

They say: “We cannot see how it is right to accept as…

Church wedding for Justin Bieber and Hailey Baldwin ‘planned’

A source has been quoted by a US celebrity magazine as saying preparation are underway for a celebration with friends and family but no date has been set.

They told People: “They’ve been figuring out the perfect time to do it, and they both feel like the sooner, the better. They’re still figuring it out.”

“They’re working with the schedules of all their friends and family to make sure they can be surrounded by the people they love.

“There’s no real rush. They’re already legally married, but they’re very excited about throwing a celebration with their loved ones.”

Justin Bieber

The Christian couple reportedly tied the knot during a civil courthouse ceremony in New York City last September.

Bieber, 24, became a believer in the apartment of Hillsong pastor Carl Lentz and chose to be baptised immediately in a bath tub.

Confirming the news of his engagement to model Baldwin, 22, the singer told fans last summer that God’s timing is “literally perfect”.

Bieber has spoken publicly about his Christian faith, quoting Bible verses and sermons on his social media pages.

TREM Devotional 10 January 2019 – The Word Will Bring You Victory

Topic: The Word Will Bring You Victory [TREM Devotional 10 January 2019]

“Until the time that his word came: the word of the LORD tried him. The king sent and loosed him; even the ruler of the people, and let him go free.” Psalm 105:19-20 KJV

Ever before Jacob went to Egypt, God had already prepared a man and sent him ahead. He said Go in advance. Go ahead and ambush the devil. Beloved, there is a great and divine assignment over your life; that is why the enemy is fighting you so that you would not fulfil it. But I declare that you will not die unsung. I will hear your voice and the world will hear your voice.

Joseph was the man God sent ahead of time to Egypt because His children must go through that land. So, he began to pass through all kinds of difficulties and challenges that he himself did not even know why. But today, we can open the scriptures and find out why we do go through some things we go through.

For Joseph, Potiphar’s house was not the destination. They threw him into jail and he became the head person in the prison. But the prison was also not the destination. He was in prison until God said ‘the time is up.’ When God says the time is up, it is up. Beloved, when something looks as if it will not work, it simply the means time is up. The thing that has held you over the years and it looks as if it would not work; I have come to announce to you that your time is up. Your time of testifying is here. You have been listening to other people’s testimonies, it is now your time. Praise God!

You see, when Joseph was in the prison, they put his feet in fetters. Everything was falling apart for him until the Word of God came to him. There is no deliverance for any person, more especially for God’s people, until the Word comes. The Word has to come to you; and as the Word comes to you, you enter into a time-frame where the Word of God will try you. It will then bring victory and deliverance.

MFM Daily Devotional 10 January 2019 – How to Become Great in the Kingdom of God (III)

MFM Mountain Top Life Daily Devotional 10 January 2019 By Dr. D.K Olukoya – How to Become Great in the Kingdom of God (III)

TOPIC: How to Become Great in the Kingdom of God (III) (Mountain Of Fire and Miracle Ministries, MFM Daily Devotional 10 January 2019)

FIRE SCRIPTURE: John 12:21-26

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: Genesis 25-26; Matthew 8:1-17

MEMORY VERSE: “Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up.” – James 4:10

The MESSAGE:

In the last two days, we learnt that one can become great in the kingdom of God by embracing humility and by having the heart to serve God and others willingly. We will conclude the discourse by looking at the third key or criterion for becoming great in the kingdom of God: die to self.

What does it mean to die to self? Self is a product of the flesh. You have to die to self every day if you want to be great in the kingdom of God. Dying to self is being broken. How do you die to self? It is by allowing your circumstances to help you become more like Christ especially the circumstances you do not like. A Christian counsellor once advised, “Anytime you feel the pain of an insult, disappointment, suffering, physical challenge or trial, it is an opportunity to die to pride, die to ego, die to sin and die to self.” The truth is that if you die to self, you will become humble and you will have a servant’s heart. Besides, heaven will be pleased with you and make you great.

Beloved, self-surrender is the key to dying to self. Surrender your pride and ego to God. Jesus was dead to self. That is why He was perfect in speech, thought and action. It is also the reason He said, “for the prince of this world cometh, and hath nothing in me” (John 14:30). Apart from helping you to become great in the kingdom of God, dying to self is the key to acquiring unusual power in your Christian life. Apostle Paul was also dead to self. It is no wonder his ministry was so phenomenal. Paul said, “I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.” (Galatians 2:20). A famous writer said, “If you do not conquer self, you will be conquered by self”. Be wise!

MOTIVATIONAL QUOTE:
GREAT LEADERSHIP IS A PRODUCT OF GREAT FOLLOWERSHIP.

PROPHETIC WORD:
Let God arise and give you a pleasant surprise today.

PRAYER POINTS:

MORNING

  1. I crucify the flesh by fire, in the name of Jesus.
  2. I nail self to the cross, in the name of Jesus.
  3. Father, break me and remould me, in the name of Jesus.
    EVENING
  4. I enter into the covenant of favour for my life, in the name of Jesus.
  5. Lord, open independent wells of prosperity for me, in the name of Jesus.
  6. I receive divine visitation now, in the name of Jesus.
