Open Heaven 28 December 2018 – Come and Rest

Open Heaven 28 December 2018 Friday Daily Devotional By Pastor E. A. Adeboye – Come and Rest

Topic: Come and Rest (Open Heaven 28 December 2018)

Memorise: “There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God.”- Hebrews 4:9

Read: Mark 6:30-32(KJV)

30 And the apostles gathered themselves together unto Jesus, and told him all things, both what they had done, and what they had taught.

31 And he said unto them, Come ye yourselves apart into a desert place, and rest a while: for there were many coming and going, and they had no leisure so much as to eat.

32 And they departed into a desert place by ship privately.

Bible in One Year: Zechariah 1-6, John 19:17-42

Open Heaven 28 December 2018 Friday MESSAGE:

Our God is not a slave driver. He is a loving Father who wants restful peace for His children always. Even though He cannot by any means get tired, He rested after six days of creation to demonstrate to us the need for rest (Genesis 2:2). Consequently, whenever we find ourselves in a stressful situation where one cannot even find rest in sleep, a prayerful probe into the matter usually points either to human error or the threats of enemies. I pray for anyone passing through difficult time, burdened with the load of life and without any hope of deliverance in sight: receive God’s rest now in Jesus’ Name.

Rest from enemies and travails of life have been the greatest concern of mankind from one generation to another. Since God’s judgment came on humanity for the wrongdoing of Adam and Eve, hardship, trouble and travail have become a daily experience for people (Genesis 3:17-19). Humanity labored under these harsh conditions without any respite until the advent of Jesus, the Messiah and Savior of the world. In Matthew 11:28, He invited us to all-round rest in Himself, saying:

“Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”

This proclamation presents Jesus as the source of rest from labor without reward, rest from adversaries, rest from life’s troubles, and the promised rest with God in eternity. All those who answer His call will receive all-round rest here on earth and eternal rest with God in heaven.

Rest can also be an expression of trust or reliance. When a person ceases from all personal efforts in a troubled situation, it implies confidence in and dependence on the assistance of a higher power. Those who turn to Jesus for rest can never be disappointed. Psalm 37:7 says:

“Rest in the LORD, and wait patiently for him: fret not thyself because of him who prospereth in his way, because of the man who bringeth wicked devices to pass.”

Through this scripture, the Holy Spirit is emphasizing that when an enemy is so powerful, well connected and reputed to have successfully carried out wicked plans in the past, you should rest in the Lord and patiently wait for His salvation, because our God is the final authority in heaven and on earth. As you accept the Lord’s invitation to come into His rest today, no matter what you are going through, you will find rest for your soul in Jesus’ Name.

Open Heaven 28 December 2018 Friday Prayer Point:

Father, please give me all-round rest in the New Year I am going into, in Jesus’ Name.

Open Heaven 28 December 2018 Friday Hymn 18: Conqueror and Overcomers Now Are We

1. Conquerors and overcomers now are we,
Thro’ the precious blood of Christ we’ve victory
If the Lord be for us we can never fail,
Nothing ‘gainst His mighty power can e’er prevail.

Chorus:
Conquerors are we, thr’o the blood of Jesus
God will give us victory, thro’ the blood of Jesus
Through the Lamb for sinners slain,
Yet who lives and reigns again,
More than conquerors are we,
More than conquerors are we.

2. In the name of Israel’s God we’ll onward press,
Overcoming sin and all unrighteousness;
Not to us but unto Him the praise shall be,
For salvation and for blood bought victory.

3. Unto Him that overcometh shall be given,
Here to eat of hidden manna sent from Heaven,
Over yonder He the victors palm shall bear,
And a robe of white, and golden crown shall wear.

Record High Say Religion Can’t Answer Life’s Problems, Poll Shows

Record High Say Religion Can’t Answer Life’s Problems, Poll Shows

An overwhelming majority of Americans say religion is important in their lives, although a record high says religion does not have the answers for life’s problems, according to a new Gallup poll.

The survey released Dec. 24, shows 72 percent of Americans say religion is important in their lives, including 51 percent who say it’s “very important.” But that latter number is near the historic low of 49 percent, recorded in 2015. When the question was asked first in 1952, 75 percent of Americans said religion was “very important.”

“Although these finding … show that religion is still very important to a slim majority, they provide further evidence of the long-term decline in the importance of religion in Americans’ lives,” Gallup’s Megan Brenan wrote.

Only 46 percent of Americans say religion can “answer all or most of today’s problems” — another record low and the first time the number has dipped below 50 percent. A record high — 39 percent — say it cannot. Among those who attend church at least once a week, 81 percent say religion can answer all or most problems.

“The public is now more closely divided than ever before in its views of religion as the answer to what ails society,” Brenan wrote.

New Planned Parenthood President Claims Birth Control, Abortion to be ‘Standard Medical Care’

New Planned Parenthood President Claims Birth Control, Abortion to be ‘Standard Medical Care’

New Planned Parenthood President Leana Wen recently took to social media to proclaim that the group’s services, including the arrangement of contraceptives and abortions, are “standard medical care,” and healthcare is a “basic human right.”

“From here on out, we want to be clear: Planned Parenthood services, from birth control to cancer screenings and abortion, are standard medical care,” she declared on Dec. 16. “Reproductive healthcare is healthcare. Women’s healthcare is healthcare. And healthcare is a basic human right. #ThisIsHealthcare”

The next day, Wen tweeted, “Denying people healthcare perpetuates inequality. Keeping people unhealthy is a tool of oppression. The American people want more healthcare, not less. We want healthcare protected, expanded, and treated as a fundamental human right. #ThisIsHealthcare”

Although Wen’s comments were met with thousands of likes, there were others who chose to repudiate her claims.

“Abortion is not standard healthcare. It’s an elective procedure that stops a healthy, normal biological process and ends a human life. Ending life is never healthcare,” one commenter stated.

“Ending the lives of the most innocent and vulnerable among us is not healthcare; it’s murder,” another wrote.

“Abortion is the intentional killing of the living individual in…

Ukraine Orthodox church ordered to change name to reflect Russian loyalties

President Petro Poroshenko signed a bill on Saturday that said the Ukrainian Orthodox Church must change their name to reflect its links with Russia, referred to in the church as the Moscow Patriarchate.

This comes in the middle of a complex split in the Orthodox church as many in Ukraine want a departure from Moscow’s influence. The President argued that it would be easier for people to know what type of church to opt for.

“It is easier to make a choice when all things are called by their names,” Poroshenko said.

Ukraine’s parliament passed the motion but priests and parishioners of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church protested outside, saying it was a violation of freedom of religion and an example of unconstitutional state interference in religious affairs.

Under the bill, the church will be expected to change their name in the next four months.

Earlier in the year the Ecumenical Patriarch of Constantinople, Bartholomew I, called ‘first among equals’ within the denomination, allowed the independent wing of the Ukraine church to come under separate headship – causing Russia to part from Constantinople in some official meetings.

Franklin Graham Calls Out Politicians, Media, Calls them ‘Vicious and Relentless “

Franklin Graham Calls Out Politicians, Media, Calls them ‘Vicious and Relentless “

Franklin Graham took to Facebook on Wednesday to call out the news media as “vicious and relentless.”

The evangelist wrote, “Well, it’s the day after Christmas—and I’m tired. How about you?”

He continued, “Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy seeing family and friends and hearing from people I haven’t heard from in a long time. But I’m tired, and it’s not just the season.”

He continued, referring to the government shut down, “I’m tired of all the fighting in Washington. You can’t turn on the news or read the headlines online without being overwhelmed by all of the political squabbling (to put it mildly). The news media are so vicious and relentless in their fault finding and their attacks on the President.”

According to Fox News, the government “partially shut down” on Saturday after Congress could not agree on a budget. The outlet reports that Trump said he would only sign a bill that provided adequate funding for the southern border wall and border security.

According to WND, the $5 billion demand was met with great opposition, including opposition from New York Senator Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) who promised President Trump that the Democratic party would never work with the president on border wall or security plans. In his post on Facebook, Graham emphasized that he was tired of this lack of civility in Washington and the…

Brian Welch ‘Followed God’ Back into Korn to Impact Metal World for Christ

Brian Welch ‘Followed God’ Back into Korn to Impact Metal World for Christ

Guitarist Brian “Head” Welch gained notoriety more than a decade ago when he became a Christian and quit the metal band Korn, and then made headlines again when he rejoined the band in 2012.

Welch says in a new video that God guided him back into Korn so he could impact others for Christ.

“I know the music’s crazy, but mainly the lyrics are about pain,” Welch says in the video for the non-profit I Am Second organization. “And they’re coming from a real and raw place. People need hope. There’s addictions like crazy in that world. There’s depression. It’s been a lot of suicide stories happening. What better place [for me] to be, having the meaning of life that I carry? You know, I know the answer for the meaning of life.

“It’s not the most popular thing to do at a rock concert is talk about Christ. I’m doing it because it’s the most realest thing that’s ever happened to me in my life.”

Welch, though, still believes it was best for him to quit the band before rejoining it. The separation helped prepare him to be a witness in the world of metal, he says.

“It’s like when a baby’s born, it needs to be in a sterile environment where everything’s pure around the baby, right? — for a period of time until it can go start touching thing,” Welch said. “And so that’s kind of the same thing spiritually, where you’ve got to go away in a…

Christian man’s Christmas Day deportation delayed by community

Otis Bolamu is from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and says he would be imprisoned by the DRC government, whom he worked for, if he returned because of his opposition to them and his work on fair and open elections.

He came to the UK this year after hearing that he was being suspected of spying on the government and is a member of the political movement Apareco in the UK, one of the main Congolese opposition groups here.

The Home Office were planning to deport Bolamu on Christmas Day after taking him into detention at 4am on 19th December from Swansea to Brook House near Gatwick, ready to put him on a plane on the 25th.

Otis Bolamu is a practising Christian, actively involved in his local church and was planning to spend Christmas Day with his church friends.

A petition set up for him says: “All he wants is to be able to worship at his church on Christmas Day. Instead, he is being sent into harm’s way, with unseemly haste, on the most sacred of all days for Christians, whilst the rest of us will be celebrating.

“This is a cruel example of the hostile environment at work. Such an action is not at all compatible with the Christmas message of love and compassion.”

The petition currently has 8,301 signatures to protect him from further deportation, signed by many people from Hay Festival and Oxfam where he volunteered.

Adam Price, the leader of the Welsh…

Elementary School Bus Driver Purchases Christmas Presents for All 70 Children on His Route as Part of ‘Mission from God’

Elementary School Bus Driver Purchases Christmas Presents for All 70 Children on His Route as Part of ‘Mission from God’

A school bus driver in Texas purchase Christmas presents for each child on his route by using funds that he saved as a means of fulfilling his “mission from God.”

Lake Highlands Elementary School students were caught by surprise when Curtis Jenkins arrived in a bus full of Christmas gifts. Thrilled by what they saw, one student wondered if Jenkins was Santa Claus.

“I’m not at a job, I’m on a mission from God,” Jenkins mentioned to the Dallas-Fort Worth NBC affiliate. “I don’t say anything about religion to the kids. I just let them know whatever they love is fine with me, just love somebody on the way.”

Jenkins stated his position also provides him with a chance to let every child know that they are valued and loved. The presents he handed out the students included puzzles, electronics, games and even a bike.

“Seeing the faces of those kids was more than anything that I could ever do with the money,” Jenkins proclaimed.

“We talked about the things that they would want and I made a mental note of it and wrote it down,” he mentioned.

Eleven-year-old Ethan Ingle, one of the 70 kids who were given a present from Jenkins, was delighted to receive a pair of headphones in red, his favorite color.

“It makes me feel like I belong and I mean something to this community,” declared Ethan’s mother, Katrina Clift,…

Coptic Christian’s prison sentence upheld

Abd Adel Bebawy was arrested in his home village of Minbal on July 6 after posting an image of God, the angel Gabriel and a verse from the Quaran on Facebook.

The day after his arrest, according to International Christian Concern, a mob of Islamic hardliners gathered in Minbal and attacked the homes of several Christians

The village has made it clear since then that Bebawy and his family are no longer welcome.

When the court originally passed a prison sentence on Bebawy on 27th November, his legal defence team believed that they would succeed in the appeal. His defence lawyers argued that no material evidence was presented against Abd. They further argued that Abd had reported his Facebook account as hacked in July and the Facebook post in question was immediately deleted.

One lawyer who advised on the case said: “We were thinking that the appeal will end up setting Abd free, and we were thinking who will compensate Abd for the months detained in prison until we reached the appeal time. Who will compensate his family, who have left the village and his kids moved to another school?”

The number of blasphemy cases in Egypt has increased since 2016. Many of these cases involve on social media and can carry a maximum sentence of five years in prison.

Claire Evans, ICC’s Regional Manager for the Middle East, said: “The verdict of the appeal court is extremely disappointing and worrying, as it further ingrains violations of religious freedom into…

Tsunami Kills 430 in Indonesia, the Government Prepares for a Possible Second

Tsunami Kills 430 in Indonesia, the Government Prepares for a Possible Second

At least 430 people are dead following the eruption of the Anak Krakatau volcano Sunday night which triggered a massive tsunami in Indonesia.

According to the New York Post, When Krakatau erupted over the Holiday weekend, land from the mountain began to shed and part of the Sundra Strait collapsed into the ocean. The landslide then set off tsunami-sized waves that reached heights of more than 6 ½ feet before they crashed into villages on the Java and Sumatra coasts.

According to CNN, the estimated death toll at this time is 430 people with more than 150 people still missing. Reportedly 1,500 people were injured and almost 22,000 people were displaced.

The NYP reports that there are likely more victims of the tragedy who are yet to be found, as search and rescue efforts have been hampered because of bad weather.

While many people are mourning the loss of their loved ones and homes, scientists are warning citizens to stay far away from the coast. According to the NYP, there is a significant risk being posed by the possibility of a second landslide. Scientists suspect that another landslide could trigger a second tsunami. According to CBN News, the Anak Krakatau volcano alert status has been raised to the second highest level and the government is encouraging communities in the strait to stay at least 500 meters and at most 1 kilometer from the…
