Iranian Christian couple arrested in front of 7 year old daughter

According to religious freedom charity Middle East Concern, Amir Taleipour and wife Mahnaz Harati had their home raided earlier this month and were then arrested in front of their 7 year old daughter.

It’s reported they remain in detention and haven’t been allowed to communicate with family members or legal professionals.

The charges they’re facing have not been revealed.

Church leaders in the area say local Christians are increasingly targeted around Christmas but this year is more severe than previous years.

They claim different branches of security forces are competing for approval and funding so want to show their effectiveness in arresting Christians.

In a statement, Middle East Concern ask for prayer that: “The Lord will comfort and strengthen Amir and Mahnaz to persevere and be faithful witnesses of Christ, that they will be allowed to communicate with their family and engage a lawyer, and that they will be released soon.

“Pray that Christians in Iran will be protected and alert and not intimidated and that state security will cease targeting citizens on account of their religious belief.”

Girl’s Inoperable Brain Tumor Disappears – ‘God Healed’ Her

Girl’s Inoperable Brain Tumor Disappears – ‘God Healed’ Her

A Texas girl’s inoperable brain tumor has disappeared, and her parents are giving all the credit to God.

Roxli Doss, now 11, was diagnosed in June with diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma, a brain tumor that is inoperable and has no cure, KVUE reported. The cancer starts in the brain stem and spreads. Survival rates are low.

“[The type of cancer] is very rare, but when we see it, it is a devastating disease,” her doctor, Virginia Harrod with Dell Children’s Medical Center, told the television station. “You have decreased ability to swallow, sometimes vision loss, decreased ability to talk, eventually difficulty with breathing.”

Although there is no cure, Roxli underwent radiation treatment, which can provide a temporary shrinking of the tumor. Roxli’s family and community also prayed.

During her next MRI scan, the tumor was gone.

“When I first saw Roxli’s MRI scan, it was actually unbelievable,” Harrod said. “The tumor is undetectable on the MRI scan, which is really unusual.”

Her doctor has no explanation for what happened, KVUE reported. Doctors double checked the scan but still couldn’t find the tumor.

Roxli’s parents say God healed her.

“Everyday we still say it,” said her mom, Gena Doss. “It’s kind of our family thing that God healed Roxli.”

They prayed every day for her healing.

“Praise God we…

Pastor and his wife remain detained in China after church arrests

Pastor Wang Yi and his wife Jiang Rong from Early Rain Covenant Church in Sichuan province are among those who remain in detention.

While some have been released and sent back to their home towns, many are not allowed back to the location of the church and more people have been detained since 9th December.

The church service on Sunday was also interrupted when and more were arrested then.

Jane from the religious freedom charity Christian Solidarity Worldwide told Premier’s News Hour that their charge is “inciting subversion”, which she said: “isn’t a religious charge, it doesn’t refer to religious activities specifically, it’s more of a national security related charge but we see it frequently used against religious leaders, also human rights lawyers who defend religious leaders and other victims of human rights abuses.

“It can really be used in a very wide range of ways. It could carry up to a 15 year prison sentence so, as I say, very serious.

“We’re also very concerned that, as far as we know, neither of them have been able to meet with a lawyer yet, which is obviously art of the right and shows that things are not following due process.”

Pastor Wang Yi wrote a letter a few weeks ago, predicting his arrest. The note was handed to colleagues on the basis it should be shared publicly if he ever became detained for more than 48 hours.

It read: “Those who lock me up will one day be locked up by angels. Those who interrogate me will finally be…

NFL Hall of Famer Tony Dungy Gives Back to His Community, Volunteers as Bell Ringer for the Salvation Army

NFL Hall of Famer Tony Dungy Gives Back to His Community, Volunteers as Bell Ringer for the Salvation Army

One legendary football player decided to step up to the plate after the Salvation Army announced that they were short on bell ringers this year.

Former NFL player Tony Dungy was spotted outside of a Publix grocery store this week ringing a bell and collecting donations for the Salvation Army.

According to WFLA, Dungy and his family were seen in Lutz, Florida, with bells in hand and an iconic Salvation Army red kettle beside them.

According to CBN News, the Salvation Army took to social media to thank the Tampa Bay Buccaneers Ring of Honor member and former head coach. The organization wrote, “Thank you so much to Tony Dungy and his family for volunteering as bell ringers for an afternoon.”

They added, “We feel so blessed to have your continued support!”

According to the Salvation Army website, the tradition of the red kettles and bell ringers started 125 years ago and is considered the organizations largest fundraiser of the year. The funds raised through the initiative go to local families who need a little extra help during the holiday season. “Volunteers are the difference between an empty kettle and one that raises about $30 per hour – enough to provide a family with two bags of groceries or shelter an individual for a night,” the organization notes on their website.

“Red kettles are a Christmas…

Online ministry reveals most searched for Christmas questions

These are just some of the most searched for questions on the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association’s online ministry at this time of year.

It’s revealed it’s attracting over a thousand people a day in the UK alone.

The PeaceWithGod.co.uk website has 4,000 questions and answers to help those seeking out more about the Christian faith.

BGEA UK Director Lee Searle told Premier’s News Hour he was encouraged by the amount of people searching for answers.

He said: “It’s great to see such a varied response.

“When you see that number one question about Herod – it’s a question about scripture. Isn’t it wonderful that people are asking about something which is Biblical?”

Other popular questions included ‘Why was Jesus born in a stable?’ and ‘Why is Christmas still important?’

Chinese Authorities Close Third House Church in Months

Chinese Authorities Close Third House Church in Months

Chinese officials have raided yet another church this month.

According to the South China Morning Post, 60 police officers barreled through Rongguili Church in Guangzahou during a children’s Bible class, last week.

One of the church members posted about the incident on social media writing, “Halfway through the children’s Bible class, we heard the footsteps of dozens of police and officials stomping up the stairs,” CBN reports.

“They then verified our identities again and warned us not to return [to the church] before letting us go,” the church member continued.

CBN News reports that the officials who entered the church with law enforcement officers were from the Communist government’s education and religious affairs department. The outlet reports that the officials stayed at the church until 8:00 pm confiscating books among other things.

On Saturday, following the raid, the Yuexiu district ethnic and religious affairs bureau released a statement noting that the Rongguili Church had violated government regulations and therefore all activities at the church have been suspended.

The church, which was one of China’s first major house churches, was founded by the late pastor Samuel Lamb Xiangao in 1978. The church has stood for nearly four decades.

Hong Kong-based missionary John Short, told South China Morning Post, “Samuel Lamb’s house church, after his release…

Vatican says church credibility at risk over sex abuse

In a letter sent to the presidents of bishops’ conferences worldwide, organisers said the church must develop a “comprehensive and communal response” to the crisis, and that the first step is “acknowledging the truth of what has happened”.

Pope Francis invited church leaders to the February 21-24 summit to respond to what has become the gravest threat to his papacy, as the sex abuse and cover-up scandal erupted in the US, Chile and elsewhere this year.

In revealing the first details of preparations for the meeting, the Vatican said the summit would focus on three main areas: responsibility, accountability and transparency.

“Absent a comprehensive and communal response, not only will we fail to bring healing to victim survivors, but the very credibility of the church to carry on the mission of Christ will be in jeopardy throughout the world,” the organisers wrote.

“Each of us needs to own this challenge, coming together in solidarity, humility and penitence to repair the damage done, sharing a common commitment to transparency and holding everyone in the church accountable,” they said.

It was signed by the four members of the preparatory committee for the meeting: Chicago Cardinal Blase Cupich, Mumbai Cardinal Oswald Gracias and the Vatican’s leading abuse experts, Maltese Archbishop Charles Scicluna and the Rev Hans Zollner.

They urged conference presidents to meet…

Podcast Episode #494

We’v found that many pastors are forced out unknowingly by churches. Today, we cover five ways your church may unknowingly be pushing your pastor away.

Some highlights from today’s episode include:

  • The rare exceptions make headlines, but pastors are not in ministry for the money.
  • Even in “good churches” pastors hear more than a little criticism.
  • When complimenting your pastor, be as specific as possible. Something like “good sermon” often just rings hollow.
  • It’s rare to find a pastor who doesn’t love caring for the flock.

The five ways we discuss are:

  1. Not compensating them adequately
  2. Unreasonable expectations on the family
  3. Comparison comments
  4. “Death by a thousand cuts”
  5. Failure to ask pastors questions of care and concern

Millenials unsure who the baby is in nativity

Two thousand Brits aged between 21and 38 were polled for the study by the booking website hotels.com.

Thirty-nine per cent of those questioned could not identify the infant born in the manger and slightly fewer, thirty-seven per cent, looked blank at the names Mary and Joseph.

Half did not know that the Angel Gabriel told Mary she was going to be a mother.

Fewer than 10 per cent of those questioned could name the three gifts brought by the wise men of frankincense, gold and myrrh.

Asked how the nativity story would be brought up to date, 15 per cent would replace the Three Wise Men with Three Wise Women, 10 per cent would would have a unicorn instead of a donkey and 10 per cent said Gabriel would appear to Mary via Instagram.

As for other Christmas traditions, 46 per cent said their Christmas dinner would consist of pizza or vegan food instead of turkey.

The study follows news that a nativity scene was initially banned in a Scottish shopping centre, with bosses saying they wanted to be “religiously neutral”.

Russian social media campaigns targeted Christians

The Senate Intelligence Committee released two reports yesterday detailing the breadth of Russian social media disinformation campaigns in the US. One strategy caught my eye: the Russian-linked Internet Research Agency created a page it called “Army of Jesus.”

Targeting Christians, the group offered “free counseling to people with sexual addiction.” The phony counseling service was apparently intended to blackmail or manipulate people who used it.

In our post-Christian world, we should expect attacks on Christians to escalate. As I noted yesterday, standing for biblical truth in our culture requires significant courage.

But there’s more to the story.

“May your holidays be joyful, boozy and caffeinated!”

Consider these stories in the news:

One: “There are two must-haves for anyone looking to survive the holidays: coffee and booze, preferably served together in one easy-to-consume package.” So advises Huffington Post in an article offering “12 boozy coffee cocktails to help you get through the holidays.” The writer wishes for us, “May your holidays be joyful, boozy and caffeinated!”

Two: Meditation services in the US are a $1.2 billion industry. A Wall Street Journal article titled “Inner Peace Is a Booming Business” raises the curtain on the money and time some are spending to seek serenity.

Three: A father took his sons to Barnes & Noble recently, where they noticed a display called “Inspiring Books to Empower Young Readers.” The books included three memoirs by illegal aliens. Another book told a fictional story of a child arrested by Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents at school while white classmates wearing “Make America Great Again” hats taunt him. No books reflecting a more conservative agenda were displayed.

Four: The New York Times tells us how to conduct a wedding whether we’re a minister or not. The article shows us how to get ordained online and then put together the ceremony. The column…
