Text: Daniel 12:5-13 (KJV)

Key Verse: “And I heard the man clothed in linen, which was upon the waters of the river, when he held up his right hand and his left hand unto heaven, and sware by him that liveth for ever that it shall be for a time, times, and an half; and when he shall have accomplished to scatter the power of the holy people, all these things shall be finished” (Daniel 12:7).

MESSAGE:

The emergence of computer has greatly fuelled the advancement of science and technology and drastically changed the way we live. Alongside these advancements is increasing sense of insecurity and apprehension – no thanks to recent social, economic and political developments in the world.

Both Testaments of the Bible foretold what the end of the present age will be. The book of Daniel is one of the prominent scriptures in this regard. Its last chapter summarises and concludes the great revelations contained in the book. The earlier verses foretold the eventual deliverance of the Jews from Antiochus who will greatly persecute them. Beyond that, it points to the fate of believers (dead and alive) before the coming of the Antichrist. They will be raptured to meet the Lord in the air and be rewarded for their works.

Christ’s coming at the rapture would be to deliver believers from the troubles that would be unleashed on the world during the reign of the Antichrist. The Bible reveals that he will reign for seven years. He will deceive the world for three and half years, gain global acceptance and eventually enter into an agreement with Israel. But Israel’s real trouble will begin with the last three and half years when the Antichrist will renege, desecrate their worship and persecute them.

Truly, “Left behind” believers will weep and gnash their teeth. Do you want to be among them? Thus, “give diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things, ye shall never fall: For so an entrance shall be ministered unto you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ (2 Peter 1:10,11). Be prepared.

Thought For The Day: The greatest miss of all times will be the missing of the rapture.

Topic: A Safe Place [Our Daily Bread 2 December 2018 Devotional]

Read: Psalm 17:1–9, Bible in a Year: Ezekiel 42–44; 1 John 1

I call on you, my God, for you will answer me; turn your ear to me and hear my prayer. Psalm 17:6

My brothers and I grew up on a wooded hillside in West Virginia that provided a fertile landscape for our imaginations. Whether swinging from vines like Tarzan or building tree houses like the Swiss Family Robinson, we played out the scenarios we found in the stories we read and movies we watched. One of our favorites was building forts and then pretending we were safe from attack. Years later, my kids built forts out of blankets, sheets, and pillows—constructing their own “safe place” against imaginary enemies. It seems almost instinctive to want a hiding place where you can feel safe and secure.

When David, the singer-poet of Israel, sought a safe place, he looked no further than God. Psalm 17:8 asserts, “[God,] keep me as the apple of your eye; hide me in the shadow of your wings.” When you consider the Old Testament record of David’s life and the almost constant threats he faced, these words reveal an amazing level of confidence in God (v. 6). In spite of those threats, he was convinced his true safety was found in Him.

We can know that same confidence. The God who promises to never leave or forsake us (Hebrews 13:5) is the One we trust with our lives every day. Although we live in a dangerous world, our God gives us peace and assurance—both now and forever. He is our safe place.

Prayer: Father, the world around me can feel threatening, overwhelming, and dangerous. But You give me peace, strength, and help.

Give God thanks for being your hiding place today.

INSIGHT
In the Psalms, we find people speaking to God about the concerns of their heart and the practical issues of everyday life. As such, there are various categories of psalms. One category is imprecatory psalms (Psalms 5, 10, 17, 35, 58, 59, 70, 79, 83, 109, 129, 137, 140). Imprecatory literally means “to pray evil against” or “to invoke a curse upon.” In these psalms, the author typically asks for vindication against an enemy for unjust treatment. These prayers can range in aggression from a request for justice and vindication to petition for the death and destruction of one’s enemies (see Psalm 17:2 and Psalms 35 and 137 for increasingly aggressive requests for God’s action). While some imprecatory psalms may make us uncomfortable, we must remember that these are human requests for God to act—requests made from the pit of despair, frustration, and hopelessness.

And when ye stand praying, forgive, if ye have aught against any. – Mark 11:25

Few people realize just how closely connected faith and forgiveness are. Jesus taught about that connection in His sermon on mountain-moving faith that’s recorded in Mark 11:22-26.

He said, “What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them. And when ye stand praying, forgive” (verses 24-25).

Jesus backed those two sentences up together on purpose. He wanted us to know that releasing those who have wronged us is fundamental to receiving from God. He wanted to impress on our hearts the fact that we cannot have our prayers answered and hold grudges in our hearts at the same time.

Unforgiveness clogs the faith channel and keeps you powerless against the mountains in your life!

If you’ve been praying for something and you just can’t seem to get an answer, check your heart for unforgiveness. Ask the Holy Spirit to bring any grudge that’s hidden there to light. Unclog the channel of faith and you will soon see things you’ve been praying for come to pass.

Mark 15:10 “For he knew that the chief priests had delivered him for envy.”

The Jews were God’s chosen people and therefore, God’s representatives on earth. Yet, they lied and condemned an innocent man to death. Pilate could see that their real motivation for wanting Jesus dead was envy. They were doing all their religious works to be seen of men, and were upset that Jesus was getting more recognition than they were. If these Jews would have thought about what type of witness they were giving, even they would have known that their actions were not inspired by God.

We should remember that we are God’s witnesses on earth, or as Paul said, “We are epistles… known and read of all men” (2 Cor. 3:2). Judging our actions in the light of, “What kind of witness will this give to others?” will help us discern whether or not we are being led of God.

The chief priests had deceived themselves and other religious people into believing that they were condemning Jesus for godly reasons, but even an ungodly ruler like Pilate could see through their lies. Religious bondage blinds people to the truth even more than sin does.

These rulers wanted to retain their power and authority, so they fought against the power and authority of Jesus. This is still the same today. Men use doctrinal issues to disguise the real issue. The truth is that, “Only by pride cometh contention” (Prov. 13:10). People who love to have the preeminence (3 Jn. 9) are usually the instigators of persecution.

The Second World War hero, who also presided during the collapse of the Soviet Union and the final months of the Cold War, died shortly after 10pm on Friday, family spokesman Jim McGrath said.

Tributes have poured in from across the globe from politicians.

 

The White House released the statement that read: “Through his essential authenticity, disarming wit, and unwavering commitment to faith, family, and country, President Bush inspired generations of his fellow Americans to public service – to be, in his words, ‘a thousand points of light’ illuminating the greatness, hope, and opportunity of America to the world.”

Prime Minister Theresa May said: “President George HW Bush’s ethos of public service was the guiding thread of his life and an example to us all.”

Sir John Major has also paid tribute to President George who he described as a “lifelong friend”.

“In public office he served as he lived, with compassion, courage, dignity and grace,” he said.

Roughly eight months after the passing of his beloved Barbara, former President George H.W. Bush died at age 94 on Friday night, November 30.


The 41stpresident is survived by five children, including President George W. Bush, and 17 grandchildren. The 43rdpresident released a statement following his father’s death: 


“Jeb, Neil, Marvin, Doro, and I are saddened to announce that after 94 remarkable years, our dear Dad has died. George H.W. Bush was a man of the highest character and the best dad a son or daughter could ask for. The entire Bush family is deeply grateful for 41’s life and love, for the compassion of those who have cared and prayed for Dad, and for the condolences of our friends and fellow citizens.”


According to Wikipedia, “Several key moments in Bush’s life led to a deepening of his faith in Jesus Christ, including his narrow escape from Japanese forces in 1944 and the tragic death of his three-year-old child, Robin, in 1953.”


A CNN report says of the late president, “After losing the White House in 1992, Bush became a widely admired political elder who leapt out of airplanes to mark birthday milestones. Emphasizing the generosity of his soul, he forged a close — and unlikely — friendship with Democrat Bill Clinton, the man who ended his presidency. Sally Brayshaw, 54, of Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire, was taken to religious meetings and told the devil was “having a real go” at her by GP Thomas O’Brien.

The locum doctor, a Pentecostal Christian, also suggested she was possessed by demons and advised her not to see a psychiatrist, according to her claim.

 

She was left traumatised as a result of her experience and developed a phobia of owls, which causes her to become terrified when she sees a picture of one.

A judge ruled on Friday that Dr O’Brien was “negligent” and said Mrs Brayshaw is entitled to more than £12,700 compensation from him.

Mr Justice Martin Spencer said it was “foreseeable” Mrs Brayshaw might “react adversely” in the way she did.

He said: “By reason of his zealous promotion of the religious aspects, he became blind to the medical aspects and thereby caused or contributed to the deterioration in the claimant’s mental health.

“Accordingly, in my judgment, (Dr O’Brien) is liable to the claimant for the psychiatric damage which she has sustained and its consequences.”

Dr O’Brien took no part in the case and his whereabouts are unknown.

The General Medical Council warned the results reveal patients could be put at risk as a result.

Dr Robert Hardie is a retired GP and former President of the Catholic Medical Association.

 

He told Premier trainee doctors “need more faith”.

“I think we would have all got burnt out actually but I think a lot of us had a bit more faith than they have these days,” he said.

“It’s that thing called the cross really and you just have to pick it up and walk with it.”

The General Medical Council (GMC) found nearly a third of trainees said they always or often feel exhausted in the morning at the thought of another day at work.

It has published a full review of its latest annual national training surveys, which collate the views and experiences of more than 70,000 doctors in training and senior doctors who act as trainers.

The 2018 surveys asked doctors about burnout for the first time.

Dr Hardie said people wanting to enter the medical profession should be prepared for challenges as although “medicine is fantastic, medicine has always been jolly tough”.
