Christian Artists and Worship Leaders Praise Jesus at the White House


On Tuesday, worship leaders brought Jesus to the White House through praise and worship songs. 


In videos posted online, several prominent Christian artists and worship leaders are seen gathered in the White House singing popular worship songs like “What a Beautiful Name,” and “How Great Is Our God.” 


In one video clip posted to Twitter, worship leader and recording artist Tauren Wells is seen leading the group in worship as they all sang “What a Beautiful Name.” 


Wells captioned the video saying, “What a privilege to declare the name of Jesus in worship and in prayer today at the White House. I was challenged, informed, convicted, & inspired at the #faithbriefing w/ many peers in the CCM industry. The church has a great opportunity to rise with grace & truth in this hour.”


Contemporary Christian band Citizen Way was also present at the Faith Briefing, which according to Faithwire, aimed to update Faith leaders on faith-based initiatives that have been enacted under the Trump…

Text: Numbers 16:36-40 (KJV)

Key Verse: “Speak unto Eleazar the son of Aaron the priest, that he take up the censers out of the burning, and scatter thou the fire yonder; for they are hallowed” (Numbers 16:37).

MESSAGE:

In an African country, a few years back, the president, decided to sanitise the political scene. In a sweep, the new leader ordered the execution of eight senior military officers for alleged corruption and embezzlement of public funds. In his judgment, the president believed that the country would not make any economic progress, without such revolution. The same exercise has, at one more time or the other, been replicated in many other countries.

While not advocating such a step as all judgment should be committed to God, a lesson from that action, however, is that there is a day of reckoning for every evil done by man.

In our text, immediately after the disgraceful death of Korah, Dathan, Abiram and the 250 noble men that gathered themselves against Moses, God ordered Eleazar to begin a process that would enthrone a new order. He ordered the cleansing of the tabernacle to close the chapter of the rebellious men and to wipe away the ugly incident from their memory.

Like God’s judgment on Korah and his cohorts, every act of rebellion always has great and terrifying consequences. We are warned against any action that amounts to rebellion. It is unchristian for anybody to use violence to try to change a constituted authority, either in the church or secular world. God has a way of ridding bad eggs whenever He wants to make necessary adjustments.

Above all, we must always obey God rather than men. Just as Eleazar obeyed Him. Sinners cannot be vessels unto honour. They must be born again. Thereafter, sanctify, consecrate and yield themselves unto God. Only then can they be used as vessels for God’s service.

Thought For The Day: A cleansed vessel is an awesome instrument for God’s use.

Church in Nepal Forced to Shut Down


NEW DELHI, November 16, 2018 (Morning Star News) – High-caste Hindus who have been harassing a church in Nepal forced it to shut down last week, sources said.


For two months Brahmins, the highest caste from which Hindu priests and teachers are drawn, in western Nepal’s Palpa District had disrupted worship of the Pakhluwa Eternal Life Church in Palpa each week and accused pastor Tufani Bhar of converting villagers, the pastor said.


Church members had abandoned their building and resorted to meeting in homes, but the Brahmins issued threats to anyone found meeting anywhere, including in houses.


“It is shocking that we are not allowed to meet in homes and pray,” the 53-year-old Pastor Bhar told Morning Star News.


Having established the church about nine months ago, Pastor Bhar tried everything possible to preserve the fellowship but was unable to withstand the opposition, he said. Church attendance dwindled from 30 to 15-18 people before disbanding last weekend due to fear.


Pastor Bhar visited a few members secretly on Nov. 3, which was his last visit to Palpa.


“I was too disappointed to see the Christians scared and thus did not go last week, on Nov. 10 [Saturday, the scheduled worship day],” he said. “The Hindu-Brahmins are resorting to every method possible to scare us, threaten us and not let us meet.”

Dave Ramsey says pastors should not ask “broke people” to tithe until they first work on their debt and budgeting.


Ramsey, author of Financial Peace University, says those people need to become better stewards of their money before they can give to the church.


“Unless,” he said, “you’ve done two sermons on … debt — one on getting out of debt and one on getting on a budget.


“That’s the ratio for me instead of just tithe, tithe, tithe,” he said. But when pastors fail to address debt and setting a budget, he said, the reaction to a sermon about tithing is often “yeah right, I’ve got a light bill. That’s a great spiritual concept. Maybe someday I’ll get around to that.'”


He says that tithing will become natural once that person is out of debt, following a budget and committed to serving God.


“When you stand up in front of your congregation, you’re looking at a large number of people who do not have the ability to handle their money,” he said.


“Quit preaching tithe lessons to broke people,” he said. “Let’s teach them how to get on a budget. … The natural byproduct of a Jesus lover when they have money is giving.”


Earlier this year, Ramsey offered his Financial Peace University class for free to pastors at the Southern Baptist Convention’s meeting in June.

After coming under heavy criticism from members of the black community for meeting with President Donald Trump to discuss prison reform and urban job creation, Pastor John Gray continued his push for change Wednesday when he gathered with several high profile megachurch pastors to see how churches can lead the healing of the nation’s racial divide.

“My job is to drive the dialogue not only into the natural but the spiritual and to identify areas where the Church can be an agent of healing as opposed to a place of further division,” Gray told WYFF4 at his Relentless Church in Greenville, South Carolina.

Joining Gray for the conversation on building bridges were: Steven Furtick, pastor of the popular Elevation Church in North Carolina; the Rev. A.R. Bernard, leader of the 40,000-member Christian Cultural Center; Pastor Levi Lusko of Fresh Life Church in Montana, and Pastor Ken Claytor of Alive Church in Gainesville, Florida.

“The church needs to be able to speak about the moral high ground without dishonoring people from different backgrounds,” Gray said.

Woman Held in Captivity for Ten Years Says, “I Kept Praying to Jesus”


It has been seven years since Tamara Breeden and three other disabled adults were found locked in a Philadelphia basement, but she has not forgotten how her faith sustained her throughout the nearly decade-long experience. 


Linda Weston and four others kept the four in a variety of squalid conditions across several states before they were discovered by the Philadelphia Police Department in 2011. The trio gained control over the victims’ Social Security disability checks. When police arrested her, Weston possessed “at least 50 identification cards and documents.”


She recently told NBC Philadelphia of her horrid treatment at Weston’s hands but also told them how she maintained hope during the ordeal. She said, “I kept on praying to Jesus and praying to God, hope I get back home to my family.”


She detailed the pain she suffered. “She hit me with a pistol like, like a gun pistol.” Pointing to her left ear, she told the interviewers that “She hit me with a bat. She messed up my ear right here.”


Breeden, who was the only female among the captives, also gave birth to two children while Weston controlled her. 


Authorities believe Weston befriended the four adults, who were all developmentally disabled, and became the chief beneficiary of their Social Security checks. When a landlord discovered the victims, one was chained to a boiler in the…

A Baptist minister and a Catholic priest were among a delegation who met with the minister for Asia and the Pacific to highlight the plight of the Kachin, Shan and Taang peoples.

In response, Mark Field said he remained “deeply concerned” for minority groups in Myanmar.

 

One of the delegates, Rev Dr Hkalam Samson (pictured above, right) told Premier: “Freedom of worship, freedom of religion, freedom of movement and freedom of speech; all of these are still lacking.”

The president of the Kachin Baptist Convention continued: “I really would like to request that all the listeners [of Premier] pray for us.”

In a report published last month, a fact-finding mission established by the United Nations Human Rights Council warned of “massive violations” being committed by the military and security services in Rakhine, Kachin and Shan states.

 

The mission concluded arbitrary detention, torture, rape and other forms of sexual violence, extrajudicial killings, enforced disappearances, forced displacement and unlawful destruction of property had taken place.

While members of the Shan and Taang are largely Buddhist, the Kachin are predominantly Christian.

Read: Mark 1:40–45, Bible in a Year: Ezekiel 5–7; Hebrews 12

Moved with compassion, Jesus reached out and touched him. Mark 1:41 nlt

Dr. Paul Brand, twentieth-century pioneer medical missionary to India, saw firsthand the stigma associated with leprosy. During an appointment, he touched a patient to reassure him treatment was possible. Tears began to stream down the man’s face. An attendant explained the tears to Dr. Brand, saying, “You touched him and no one has done that for years. They are tears of joy.”

Early in His ministry, Jesus was approached by a man with leprosy, an ancient label for all types of infectious skin diseases. Because of his disease the man was required by the Old Testament law to live outside his community. If the sick man accidentally found himself in close proximity to healthy people, he had to call out, “Unclean! Unclean!” so they could avoid him (Leviticus 13:45–46). As a result, the man may have gone months or years without human contact.

Filled with compassion, Jesus reached out His hand and touched the man. Jesus had the power and authority to heal people with just a word (Mark 2:11–12). But as Jesus encountered a man whose physical illness left him feeling isolated and rejected, His touch assured the man that he was not alone but accepted.

As God gives us opportunities, we can extend grace and show compassion with a gentle touch that conveys dignity and value. The simple, healing power of human touch goes a long way to remind hurting people of our care and concern.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, thank You for the personal way You reached out to care for hurting people. Help me to follow Your example and extend compassion in my actions.

Caring for others may include a compassionate touch.

INSIGHT:
After Jesus healed the leper, why did He warn him not to tell anyone? (Mark 1:44). The Scriptures don’t reveal Jesus’s motive, but what follows could provide a hint: “But go, show yourself to the priest and offer the sacrifices that Moses commanded for your cleansing.” The first priority was to show himself to the priest. Why? In ancient Israel, leprosy was seen as a physical disease with spiritual implications. Therefore, when the first symptoms were experienced, the afflicted person would go to the priest—not the doctor—to be diagnosed (Leviticus 13). If cleansing took place, the priest would need to confirm that healing. Additionally, the priest was required to offer a specific and unusually detailed sacrifice after a leper was cleansed (Leviticus 14). In the entire Old Testament there are only two recorded healings of lepers-Miriam (Numbers 12:10–15) and Naaman the Syrian (2 Kings 5:1–14), and in neither case does the Scripture record that this specific, detailed sacrifice was made. Therefore, it’s quite possible that the first time this specific sacrifice was offered was in response to the healing described in Mark. But first the leper must “show [himself] to the priest” to have his healing confirmed.

Senator Rand Paul Urges President Trump to Grant Pakistani Christian Asia Bibi Asylum


Kentucky’s Republican Senator Rand Paul is asking President Trump to grant asylum to Pakistani woman Asia Bibi, whose life is being threatened because of her Christian faith. 


Eight years ago, Bibi was arrested after two Muslim women accused her of blasphemy following an altercation that was sparked from the Christian mother drinking out of a communal cup. Bibi was put in jail and sentenced to death. The 53-year-old sat in jail awaiting her death sentence up until she was acquitted last month in a landmark Supreme Court case for the predominantly Muslim nation. 


Though Bibi’s released was seen as a positive landmark decision for many worldwide, the decision did not sit well with thousands of Islamic radicals in Pakistan. Islamic radicals quickly took to the streets in protest of the Supreme Court ruling and to demand the execution of Bibi and the Supreme Court judges who acquitted her. 


Senator Rand Paul told CNN that he is concerned for her safety and fears that if her acquittal is overturned that she would not survive.


In the interview he said, “I’ve been fighting them to free Asia Bibi. I’ve talked to the president about granting her asylum and refugee status here.” 


He continued, “I’m interested in talking to religious leaders in our country who will raise money to support her and her family to come over here.”

Scripture: The blessing of the Lord, it maketh rich, and he addeth no sorrow with it. Proverbs 10:22

Thought For The Day: It is not possible for a person to be blessed and die a pauper.

It is confirmed from Scripture that everyone who was blessed by God was never permitted to beg. The Blessing is the antidote for poverty and wretchedness. It catapults the blessed into the realm of abundance and greatness.

In Genesis 12:2, God told Abraham, And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great;…
So, blessed people are strangers to smallness. It is not possible for a person to be blessed and die a pauper.

Poverty and the Blessing are diametrically opposed, mutually exclusive and diagonally antagonistic.

For instance, if a person is from a family where wretchedness has held everyone bound, and the Blessing of God comes on him, that would mark the expiry date of that wretchedness in his life. The Blessing breaks the spells of littleness and wretchedness off the lives of the blessed and positions them as generational resource controllers.

Now, it is possible for someone to be rich and not be blessed; such riches have no future; the eternal life of such a person as well as his/her access to the other packages of the Blessing like peace, good health, marital harmony, fulfilment, etc., would not be guaranteed.

Beloved, I see you shift to the realm of abundance and greatness, in Jesus’ Name.

Remember this: It is not possible for a person to be blessed and die a pauper.

1. Be fully involved in covenant practices like tithing, giving to the poor/less privileged, giving for Kingdom projects, etc.
2. Refuse to act or think small; think big and expect big.
3. Get and read a copy of the book titled 21 Uncommon Keys to Financial Overflow by Dr Paul Enenche.
