For am I now seeking the approval of man, or of God? Or am I trying to please man? If I were still trying to please man, I would not be a servant of Christ. — Galatians 1:10

I have heard it said there are 365 references to “fear not” in the Bible. I know there are at least 355, according to Dake’s Annotated Reference Bible, one “fear not” for almost every day of the year.

Do you really want to obey the scriptures and “fear not”? If so, you will be in good company because every person in the Bible who was ever used by God to any degree was told over and over by Him, “Fear not.”

One of those people was Joshua. Joshua, the man God chose to follow Moses, had a big job ahead of him: to lead the children of Israel into the Promised Land.

God wasn’t telling Joshua to be like Moses, but that He would be to Joshua what He had been to Moses. God would not fail or forsake Joshua. He was saying, “Fear not, Joshua, I will be with you!”

When God tells you He will be with you, that means no matter what the circumstances are like, everything will work out all right because God will never fail you or forsake you.

Prayer Starter: Lord, I lift up all of my fears, worries and concerns to You right now. I choose to believe Your Word—that You will never leave or forsake me. Because of You, I don’t have to fear. Help me to keep moving forward, knowing You are with me every step of the way. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

MESSAGE:

To receive your needed miracles, you must hear the Word. This is because God’s Word goes ahead of His acts. When God wanted to deliver, heal and restore those who sinned and were afflicted in Psalm 107:20, He sent His Word.

When, for instance, a prophetic word is released through a genuine servant of God, but the targeted recipient is discussing with someone else, or is even sleeping; it is a pity. It is amazing to know that many children of God do not reverence God’s Word. If you truly regard God as your Father, you will not be talking while He is speaking through His servant.

When the Word of God is preached in church, there should be absolute silence, except where you are expected to respond to it. Also you should give it maximum attention. Those who miss the word of their deliverance may remain longer in their bondage. Deal with every noise!

Key Point:

Satan tries to introduce noise at every stage in the spiritual communication process. It is however left for you not to be distracted by it.

Topic: Having A Healthy Relationship With In-Laws (Part 1)

I thank God for another privilege to bring His Word your way again; I see Him enriching your family life as you put to work all that you have learnt in Jesus name. Last week I showed you how love and acceptance can win the heart of your in-laws thereby giving you peace in your home. Today, I will be teaching on how to set your priorities right when giving or caring for your extended family members.

Three principles that stands out clearly in the institution of marriage is Leave, Cleave and One flesh. The scripture says: Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh (Genesis 2:24). “Leaving” in this context means to gain parental independence. You cannot truly cleave to your spouse until you have first left the apron of your parents to become joint to your spouse. This does not mean you will not have anything to do with them, it means to operate as a separate and distinct family, not being remotely controlled by your parents. The day to day running of the home should not be determined by the in-laws.

The success or failure of your marriage should not be left at the mercy of extended family members. You need to order your priorities right. It will not be wise, therefore, to care for members of your extended family at the expense of your own immediate family. You should care for both of them, but one takes priority over the other. Whatever you can make available to your extended family members is a help. The scripture says: But if any provide not for his own, and especially for those of his own house, he hath denied the faith, and is worse than an infidel (1 Timothy 5:8). Providing for your immediate family is a must because they are your direct responsibility. You must therefore understand the following:

1. Your immediate family is priority
It is common to find people care more for their extended family, while they make excuses for not living up their responsibility in their nuclear homes. While it is not wrong to fulfil such duties, it poses danger to your home when it is done at their expense and in disagreement; the blessings in your engagement will be lost. The Bible says: Let all things be done decently and in order (1 Corinthians 14:40).

2. Your extended family comes after
Someone may want to ask, should the extended family be completely forgotten after marriage? No. The Word of God indicates that you should not hide from your flesh. Members of your extended family are your flesh that you cannot hide away from. However, you need to order your priorities right.

When you learn to order your priorities right, you minimize challenges in your home. When you obey what the Word of God says, you will reap the benefits. Getting yourself too involved in extended family matters at the expense of your immediate family, might make them shy away from their own responsibilities. Don’t be a keeper of another man’s vineyard, leaving your own untouched or haphazardly done.

The Bible says: Look not upon me, because I am black, because the sun hath looked upon me: my mother’s children were angry with me; they made me the keeper of the vineyards; but mine own vineyard have I not kept (Songs of Solomon 1:6). There is an account in the Bible about a man that was busy in the wrong direction. He lost his life in the process. That shall not be your portion in Jesus’ name. The Word of God says: And as the king passed by, he cried unto the king: and he said, Thy servant went out into the midst of the battle; and, behold, a man turned aside, and brought a man unto me, and said, Keep this man: if by any means he be missing, then shall thy life be for his life, or else thou shalt pay a talent of silver. And as thy servant was busy here and there, he was gone. And the king of Israel said unto him, So shall thy judgment be; thyself hast decided it. (1 Kings 20:39-40)

In case you are married to someone who cares less about his/her parents, you can motivate him or her to be more caring by writing them letters with words of comfort and sending them gifts. The important thing is not to allow any gap to exist between you and your in-laws. Remember God’s Word in Exodus 20.12 Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee. Now that you are married, your parents-in-laws are your parents and your own parents are his/her parents; don’t treat them as strangers.

The grace to set your priorities right and have a good relationship with your-in-laws, can only come from God. The grace is released cheaply to those who have made Jesus Lord and Saviour of their life – born again. You want to be born again please pray this prayer with faith in your heart. Dear Lord Jesus Christ, I come to You today. I am a sinner. Forgive me my sins and cleanse me with Your Blood. I accept You as my Lord and personal Saviour. Make me a child of God today. Thank You for delivering me from sin and satan to serve the living God and thank You for accepting me into Your Kingdom.

Congratulations! If you prayed this simple prayer of faith with me, you are now born again and a child of God. He loves you and will never leave you. Read your Bible daily, obey God’s Word and seek Christian fellowship (John 14:21).

FIRE SCRIPTURE: Zechariah 3:1-4

MEMORY VERSE: “Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and today, and forevermore.” – Hebrews 13:8

The MESSAGE:

To resist means to oppose. It is to prevent something from happening. In physics, we were taught that resistance is inversely proportional to the flow of current in a conductor. That is, the higher the resistance, the lower the amount of current that flows, decreasing the movement of the current as it progresses. Resistance causes a back and forth movement, one-step forward and many steps backward. It also causes stagnancy and when resistance is in place, there would be non-achievement. The devil is an expert in using demonic resistance to retard a Christian’s movement in life. The devil also uses it as a wall against Christians to prevent them from moving forward. Negative spiritual resistance does not allow results of prayers to manifest, and therefore, it means “No To God’s Yes”. It eventually causes failure at the altar of prayers. This leads to discouragement, frustration, emptiness, unprofitable delay, and tarrying at satanic bus stop.

A place of resistance is a place of great opposition and can divert a person to other areas, which are useless to the person’s destiny. In the Fire Scripture, Joshua was resisted despite being the high Priest, because he was clothed in filthy garments. The wall of resistance could not be broken until the garment was removed. There are several methods the devil uses to resist our blessings from getting to us. These include blocking our ways to victorious battles, healing, deliverance, prosperity, marital blessing, academic success, profitable job or contract, child bearing, promotion etc. Have you been struggling to move forward in any area of your life? Are you finding it difficult to succeed in your career and business? If yes, there might be a wall of resistance hindering you.

The wall of resistance against Daniel receiving answers to his prayer was also broken. God is set to break every wall of resistance against you today, but at this point, you need to honestly identify what your own filthy garment is, because the wall of resistance cannot be built without a filthy garment. Do you always see yourself in the dream being blocked? Do you always see yourself marching or walking on faeces and dirty roads? Today, the Lord is calling you to rise up in boldness of the victory that Christ has obtained for you. You must check your life and destroy any hold that satan may have on you. Make peace with God and begin to break down every satanic wall.

Topic: What Do You See About Yourself [TREM Devotional 14 November 2018]

“For, behold, we were binding sheaves in the field, and, lo, my sheaf arose, and also stood upright; and, behold, your sheaves stood round about, and made obeisance to my sheaf.” Genesis 37:7 KJV

How many of you remember the man by the name Joseph? Joseph, the eleventh son of Jacob, saw himself as an elevated man, higher than any other man and anyone around him. They were mad at him but he saw more things. He increased his vision. His brothers got angry but he refused to allow himself to be dragged down to the mundane. He saw beyond the immediate. He saw himself doing exploits for God. His brothers tried to stop him. They put him in the pit but the pit vomited him. He could not be stopped because there is power in what you see.

Child of God, what do you see about yourself? What do you see in the midst of the current economic situation? Don’t you understand that while there is recession in the world, there are people smiling to the bank every day? In every disaster, there is an opportunity. And that is what you must not miss. There is need for you, to catch a vision of God’s greatness for you. You must catch a vision of God’s deliverance and breakthrough for your life. Refuse to settle for anything less than what God has ordained for your life.

Joseph never stopped dreaming. He never lost sight of what he saw about himself. They sold him to slavery but slavery couldn’t stop what he saw. And the Bible says that he got there and became great. Anywhere you put him; he didn’t see anything other than greatness. In Potiphar’s house, he became great. They lied against him, put him in jail and in jail he became great yet again.

What you see is what you get. Why was Joseph always number one anywhere he went? Because he was seeing himself as number one. He refused to see himself as the last. Never see yourself less than what God called you.

Let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds. Hebrews 10:24

The Steven Thompson Memorial Centipede is a cross-country meet unlike any other. Each seven-member team runs as a unit, holding a rope for the first two miles of a three-mile course. At the two-mile mark, the team drops the rope and finishes the race individually. Each person’s time is, therefore, a combination of the pace the team kept and his or her own speed.

This year, my daughter’s team opted for a strategy I had not previously seen: They put the fastest runner at the front and the slowest right behind her. She explained that their goal was for the strongest runner to be near enough to speak words of encouragement to the slowest runner.

Their plans depicted for me a passage from the book of Hebrews. The writer urges us to “hold unswervingly to the hope we profess” (Hebrews 10:23) as we “spur one another on toward love and good deeds” (v. 24). There are certainly many ways of accomplishing this, but the author highlighted one: “not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another” (v. 25). Gathering together with other believers as we’re able is a vital aspect of the life of faith.

The race of life can feel like more than we can handle at times, and we may be tempted to drop the rope in hopelessness. As we run together, let’s offer one another the encouragement to run strong!

Prayer: Jesus, thank You for the hope You offer. Thank You for never discouraging us. Help us imitate You by encouraging each other today.

Encouragement is water to the soul.

INSIGHT:

By the blood of Jesus our high priest (Hebrews 10:19–22) we can enter the Most Holy Place, that is, we can come directly into God’s presence. However, the author is using these two ideas—Jesus’s sacrifice and our access to God—in tandem. The point in this passage is not because Jesus sacrificed for us we can enter God’s presence, but rather because we have a path to God, we are now to act. We are to draw near to Him (v. 22), hold to our hope (v. 23), encourage each other (v. 24), and meet together (v. 25).

A significant aspect of this passage is the author’s repeated use of the first-person plural. Seven times the author uses this construction and three times it’s in the exhortation “let us” (vv. 22, 23, 24). The implication is that our salvation has a community impact. Together we are part of the body of Christ (see 1 Corinthians 12). The Christian life is to be lived in relationship with others, encouraging each other to be more like Christ.
