Trade War and Censors Blow a Chill Wind Through China’s Giant Tech Scene – Urban Christian News

Wang Miaoyi’s small one-bedroom apartment, which doubles as her design studio, is overflowing with game magazines, figurines and boxes of sci-fi novels.

The 30-year old game developer is a child of the county’s tech boom: she studied at one of China’s top universities and her company hit it big with an award-winning game that was published on Nintendo’s Switch console and the PC gaming platform Steam, with plans for roll-out on other game platforms.

Now her ambitions – and those of many others across China’s giant tech industry – are facing a reckoning, amid rising state control over the sector, tightening regulation and a biting trade war with the United States stymieing growth.

“(In 2015) doing a start-up was popular. So many young people set up small businesses, like developing games, and dreamed of making big money as well as being free,” she said. “But they found out now it’s really unrealistic.”

Wang says she has had to abandon for now hopes of releasing the game on new platforms in China, closing the original studio that developed it and working instead on updates with a skeleton crew of freelancers. She has moved from the Beijing tech hub of Zhongguancun to the city’s cheaper far-west outskirts to cut costs.

She is not alone. Reuters interviewed a dozen tech industry insiders, from gig economy workers to investors, who said that the boom days of easy returns looked to be over.

Until last year, China’s tech industry had enjoyed years of breakneck growth. Firms including Alibaba Group Holding Ltd and Tencent Holdings Ltd almost doubled in value in…

MFM Daily Devotional 13 November 2018 – Desperate Hunters

MFM Mountain Top Life Daily Devotional 13 November 2018 By Dr. D.K Olukoya – Desperate Hunters

TOPIC: Desperate Hunters (Mountain Of Fire and Miracle Ministries, MFM Daily Devotional 13 November 2018)

FIRE SCRIPTURE: Mark 6:24-29

MEMORY VERSE: “Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you.”- Luke 10:19

The MESSAGE:

A hunter is a person who chases and kills wild animals for food or pleasure. The weapon used by humans are usually deadly, and they include machetes, guns, arrows, etc. For physical hunters, their targets are animals, but for spiritual hunters, their targets are human beings, especially the children of God. This is because their master, the devil, is our enemy who is determined to destroy the glorious destiny we carry. A good example of their activities is captured in the Fire Scripture. This was recorded in the Bible for us to know that these kind of satanic activities are happening in the spiritual realm. The spiritual hunters are desperate; they see human beings as spiritual animals and Christians as their biggest targets. In Matthew 2:13-16, baby Jesus was desperately hunted for and so many male children were killed as a result of the enemy’s desperation to terminate His destiny.

Beloved, their weapons are spiritual and powerful and in many cases their targets are the heads, the blood, the bones, and organs of their victims. They are in desperate pursuit because they do not want these people to fulfil their destinies and to also depopulate the kingdom of hell. The number of captors they have and the number of victims they have succeeded in destroying determine their promotion in their evil kingdom. Because they do not want their victims to fulfil their destinies, they hunt and kill people’s helpers and children in the womb just to get God angry. They are wild and reckless because in their creed, promotion only comes by the extent of their desperation and wickedness. Their assignment is a “do or die” affair. That is, they work with the spirit of “make sure” and they do not want to report failure to the devil.

So many Christians have fallen victim and we should not be ignorant of this. We have heard reports of how a husband and his wife were driving carefully in their car within town and suddenly, an oncoming vehicle collided with their car. All people in the vehicles lost their lives. We have also heard of bomb blasts that killed several people in some of our cities. How about reports of people complaining of pain in the head or leg, or neck and before getting to the hospital, they died. We have heard of some avoidable air plane crashes that took place because the passengers were targets of these desperate hunters. Why not get angry in your spirit so as to attack them before they hunt you down. If you have seen them pursuing you in the dreams, it is time to reverse the situation around and turn the battle against them and utterly destroy them. Remember this Scripture: “Behold, I give unto you power to thread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you.” You are well equipped to destroy them and YOUR TIME IS NOW.

MOTIVATIONAL QUOTE:
NO MATTER HOW TOUGH YOUR ENEMIES MAY BE, THEIR STRENGTH CAN NEVER BE COMPARED TO THE VENGEANCE OF GOD.

PROPHETIC WORD:
From today, you shall receive power to turn against your pursuers and destroy them.

PRAYER POINTS:

MORNING
1. Carelessness in my life assigned to hand me over to the devil, die, in Jesus’ name.
2. Every weakness in my foundation that the enemy wants to use to destroy me, I destroy you, in Jesus’ name.
3. Every power that wants to advertise my obituary at all cost, die now, in Jesus’ name.

EVENING
4. Witchcraft powers, that want to use my life for promotion at all cost, die, in Jesus’ name.
5. Song: “O Lord my God arise, let my pursuer flee, into desert today, let my pursuer flee”, in Jesus’ name.
6. Physical and spiritual hunters working with the spirit of “make-sure”, hunting for my life, you are a liar, die, in Jesus’ name.
7. Sword of the hunters, raised to cut off my head and to shed my blood, not my head, not my blood, therefore, arise, cut off the head of your owners and shed their blood, in Jesus’ name.

TREM Devotional 13 November 2018 – What Are You Seeing

Topic: What Are You Seeing [TREM Devotional 13 November 2018]

“And Elisha prayed, and said, Lord, I pray thee, open his eyes, that he may see. And the Lord opened the eyes of the young man; and he saw: and, behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire round about Elisha.” 2 Kings 6:17 KJV

What do you see in the midst of your challenging situation? And what are you getting? What you are getting depends on what you see. So what are you seeing? From our scriptural passage for today, let’s consider some questions. Was it when Elishah spoke that those that were with them showed up? Was it that time that the chariots of fire came into being? No! They were already there. The Lord merely opened the eyes of Elisha’s servant to see what has been made available. May God open your eyes to see.

You see, one of the tragedies of the fall of man is that through the fall, we lost our spiritual sight. We stopped seeing the way God sees. That is one of the tragedies of our fall. That is why one of the greatest things that will happen to a child of God after he is born again is to have a mind renewal. It is mind renewal that positions you to begin to see the way God sees. If you see what He has made available, you will get it.

The Bible is littered with men and women who could see beyond their immediate circumstances. And because they saw what God has made available to them in the midst of devastating circumstances, they could actualize it. What you see will give you impetus and the spiritual energy to go for it.

This season I declare that God will do the unusual in your life. He is bigger than any limitation the world places upon you. There is no challenge that withstands the power of grace and mercy in your life. Whatever is assigned to sabotage your destiny is terminated today. You must have your testimony. When others are covered with darkness, your light will shine forth.

Our Daily Bread 13 November 2018 Devotional – Dumb Sheep, Good Shepherd

Topic: Dumb Sheep, Good Shepherd [Our Daily Bread 13 November 2018 Devotional]

Read: Ezekiel 34:7–16, Bible in a Year: Lamentations 1–2; Hebrews 10:1–18

As a shepherd looks after his scattered flock when he is with them, so will I look after my sheep. Ezekiel 34:12

My friend Chad spent a year as a shepherd in Wyoming. “Sheep are so dumb that they’ll only eat what is right in front of them,” he told me. “Even if they’ve eaten all the grass in front of them, they won’t turn to look for a fresh patch—they’ll just start eating dirt!”

We laughed, and I couldn’t help but think about how often the Bible compares humans to sheep. No wonder we need a shepherd! But since sheep are so dumb, not just any shepherd will do. Sheep need a shepherd who cares about them. When the prophet Ezekiel wrote to God’s people in exile, captives in Babylon, he compared them to sheep led by bad shepherds. Instead of caring for the flock, Israel’s leaders had exploited them, profiting from them (v. 3) and then leaving them for the wild animals to devour (v. 5).

But they were not without hope. God, the Good Shepherd, promised to rescue them from the leaders who exploited them. He promised to bring them home, put them in lush pastures, and give them rest. He would heal the injured and go after the lost (vv. 11–16). He would banish wild animals, so that His flock would be safe (v. 28).

Members of God’s flock are in need of tender care and direction. How blessed we are to have a Shepherd who is always leading us to green pastures! (v.14).

DCLM Daily Manna 13 November 2018 – Permanence of God’s Law

Topic: Permanence of God’s Law [DCLM Daily Manna 13 November 2018 Daily Devotional by Pastor William Folorunso Kumuyi]

Text: Exodus 21:12-25 (KJV)

Key Verse: “Eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot, Burning for burning, wound for wound, stripe for stripe (Exodus 21:24,25).

MESSAGE:

Jesus teaches on retaliation in Matthew 5:38-39. He states, “Ye have heard that it hath been said, An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth: But I say unto you, That ye resist not evil: but whosoever shall smite thee on the right cheek, turn to him the other also.” This was not a wanton repudiation of the law, but masterful review to moderate interpersonal relationships amongst brethren.

In our text, we read of the Mosaic laws and punishment pertaining to fighting, murder, sales of human beings and miscarriage caused by another. It concludes in verses 24,25, “Eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot, burning for burning, wound for wound, stripe for stripe.”

The Lord’s authority confirms His message of the Scripture. God does not change, neither does His word or will. The moral laws are still binding on us. Jesus emphasised finality of the word of God: “Think not that I am come to destroy the law or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil.” The Law and the prophets refer to the Old Testament. The first five books of the Bible are referred to as the Law. The judicial law is the penalty for breaking the laws of not loving God and man, which will lead the offender to make a sacrifice or be punished.

Jesus came to fulfil the law and not to destroy it. Therefore, all believers must obey these laws. Do to others as you want them to do unto you. How long do you want people to love and accept you? Do so to them. In summary, the laws talk about love for God and neighbour. React to your neighbour in a way that their dignity is not taken away. You cannot overlook the law in your dealings and journey to eternity. The laws are given to us and would be used to judge us.

Thought For The Day: God’s word and judgment abideth forever.

Seeds of Destiny 13 November 2018 Devotional: The Cost Of Sin

Topic: The Cost of Sin [Seeds of Destiny 13 November 2018 Devotional]

Scripture: For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? Mark 8:36

Thought For The Day: It pays to serve God but it costs to serve the devil.

Sin is a destroyer and a person’s wrong desires are the keys to his destruction. A person’s wrong passion is the foundation for his temptation. That is why you must war against any wrong passion trying to creep into your life so that the devil does not use it as bait against you.
Some people’s uncontrollable passion is for money. They love money like Judas Iscariot. When the devil wanted to destroy Judas for instance, he tempted him with money. When he wanted to pull down David and Solomon, he used women. A local adage says, ‘What is sweet in the mouth of a goat is what would kill it’.

Beloved, sinful pleasure comes with a cost. It pays to serve God but it cost to serve the devil. There is no compromise without cost and there is no sinful pleasure without pay both in time and in eternity.

A person who drinks alcohol may be excited at the point of drinking it, but after a short time, he loses control of himself; after a while, the alcohol would begin to affect his marriage and family, then his health which may lead to death.

People have lost their jobs, destinies and lives on the platform of immoral affairs, stealing, etc.

Beloved, is that pleasure worth the pay? Is that compromise worth the cost? Think about it!

Remember this: It pays to serve God but it cost to serve the devil.

Assignments:
1. Examine your life and make amends where necessary.
2. Turn down every invitation to sin or compromise.
3. Make demands on the grace of God to live a holy life.

Prayer: O Lord, I cannot live without You. Please help me Lord to live right in this sinful world, in Jesus’ Name.

Chip and Joanna Gaines Unexpectedly Announce Their Return to Television

Chip and Joanna Gaines Unexpectedly Announce Their Return to Television

After announcing the end of their hit show Fixer Upper only a year ago, Chip and Joanna Gaines confirmed on Friday, that they are coming back to television.

Chip and Joanna Gaines appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on Friday to promote Joanna’s new book Home Body, but instead of talking about the book, the pair made an exciting and seemingly impromptu announcement regarding their careers in television.

Fallon started out by asking the couple about the newest addition to their family, four-month-old baby Crew.

The pair gushed over Crew saying he’s the “sweetest boy.”

The late-night host then went on to ask the couple about their unexpected leave from their HGTV show Fixer Upperasking them how they were spending their time off.

Chip responded to Fallon noting that they took the time off to focus on their marriage and family, Joanna joked that they used their time off to have a baby.

Chip then responded saying, “This is funny, Jimmy you’ll get a kick out of this.”

He said, “So we had four beautiful babies before we were ever introduced to the world via The Fixer Upper.” He continued, “Then we had zero babies while we were working this full-time job called Fixer Upper. As soon as we decided to stop Fixer Upper, we had a fifth baby. So, we’ve kind of figured out the Rubix cube here,” he added. “Time on our hands…

Open Heaven 13 November 2018 – This Book of the Law

Open Heaven 13 November 2018 Tuesday Daily Devotional by Pastor E A Adeboye – This Book of the Law

Topic: This Book of the Law (Open Heaven 13 November 2018)

Memorise: “But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.”James 1:25

Read: Deuteronomy 30:10-14 (KJV)

10 If thou shalt hearken unto the voice of the LORD thy God, to keep his commandments and his statutes which are written in this book of the law, and if thou turn unto the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul.

11 For this commandment which I command thee this day, it is not hidden from thee, neither is it far off.

12 It is not in heaven, that thou shouldest say, Who shall go up for us to heaven, and bring it unto us, that we may hear it, and do it?

13 Neither is it beyond the sea, that thou shouldest say, Who shall go over the sea for us, and bring it unto us, that we may hear it, and do it?

14 But the word is very nigh unto thee, in thy mouth, and in thy heart, that thou mayest do it.

Bible in One Year: Ezekiel 1-2, Luke 21:5-28

Open Heaven 13 November 2018 Tuesday MESSAGE:

The Bible is indeed a book of law. It is a user’s manual that gives instructions on how best to live our lives successfully. Imagine buying a device you have never used before, only to discover later that the user’s manual is missing! You will either go back to the manufacturer for the manual or try to figure your way around using it. If you go with the latter option, you will have no idea of what you are doing, and if by chance you get the gadget working after playing around with it, you will never fully understand it in its entirety, and so you will not be able to fully optimise its use. That is how it is with our lives. Our lives are like the gadget, and the Bible is the manual meant to give us a step by step guide on how to live our lives. Unlike earthly manuals that you can master within a short time and discard eventually, the Bible is a manual that you will need till you breathe your last breath. As Christians, our physical and spiritual lives are not meant to be average. God expects us to live life at its best, and He has given us the Bible to instruct us on how to achieve this successfully (2 Timothy 3:16-17).

The Bible is our book of solutions, containing answers to every problem we may face in this world. At a point in time, I was having issue solving a mathematical problem. I was on the right track, but I had so many equations and it was difficult finding a way to solve them all. I decided to take a break and read my Bible. The portion of the Bible I read was where Moses parted the Red Sea. There and then, God told me to solve the problem just as the Red Sea was parted into two. He opened my eyes to see that all the equations could be divided into two categories based on certain qualities. Going by this inspiration, I placed some of the equations on the left and some on the right, and having grouped them this way, the problem was easier to work out. I solved those on the left and those on the right independently, and then I brought them back together again, just as the Red Sea came back together. That was how I solved the difficult problem and got the correct answer.

The Bible was inspired by the Holy Spirit and can only be understood by His help (2 Corinthians 3:6). The more you chew on the word, the more you will see things like God and become like Him. You need to note however that it is not just about reading the Bible, but also about understanding it through the inspiration of the Holy Spirit. Whenever you want to study the Bible, ask the Holy Spirit to help you understand it, and before long, you will have deep insights and see things that no one else has seen. You also need to live by God’s instructions in the Bible, for it is only then that the anointing of good success can be activated in your life (Joshua 1:8).

This Book of the law should never depart out of your mouth: is it part of your daily communication?

Big Bang Theory’s Mayim Bialik Tells Parents Not to Use the Bible to Condone Spanking

Big Bang Theory‘s Mayim Bialik Tells Parents Not to Use the Bible to Condone Spanking

“The Big Bang Theory” actress Mayim Bialik says her children can drive her “mad,” but she doesn’t spank them.

Bialik quoted the Bible in a YouTube video where she said she doesn’t think parents should spank their children.

She refers to Proverbs 13:24: “Whoever spares the rod hates the child.”

“But have you never heard of hyperbole?” she said in the “Hitting Kids” video. “Or historical context? In biblical times it was also totally a thing to throw stones at a disobedient son — so let’s not use the Bible as our parenting guide for the 21st century. O.K.? Great.”

Bialik’s video comes as the American Academy of Pediatrics released a statement saying 94 percent of pediatricians believe that spanking does more harm than good for children.

“You can’t hit your spouse, you can’t hit your student, you can’t hit a stranger, you can’t even hit your dog, yet we have laws protecting, defending, and justifying hitting a child. It makes no sense,” Bialik said.

Bialik, who has a PhD in neuroscience, is the mother of two sons. She regularly comments on parenting and other issues on her Grok Nation site. She has also written a book on parenting, Beyond the Sling: A Real-Life Guide to Raising Confident, Loving Children the Attachment Parenting Way.

Trump Moves to Limit Asylum Seekers Who are in the U.S. Illegally

Trump Moves to Limit Asylum Seekers Who are in the U.S. Illegally

President Trump signed a proclamation Friday aimed at preventing migrants from seeking asylum if they enter the country illegally. The move comes as a caravan of migrants from Central America moves through Mexico.

The President said he is not trying to limit legal immigration, but rather seeking to stop those who come into the country in improper ways. He told reporters, “We want people to come into our country, but they have to come into the country legally.”

Illegal immigration has been a centerpiece of the President’s domestic policy since he announced his candidacy in June 2015. He promised during the run-up to the 2018 midterm that he would stop the migrant caravan from entering the country.

The American Civil Liberties Union immediately challenged the new regulations in a federal court in Northern California. They argue that the proclamation bypasses laws passed by Congress. ACLU attorney Lee Gelernt said, “The president is simply trying to run roughshod over Congress’s decision to provide asylum to those in danger regardless of the manner of one’s entry.”

Acting Attorney General Matthew Whitaker believes the President is within his rights as Chief Executive. He said, “Our asylum system is overwhelmed with too many meritless asylum claims from aliens who place a tremendous burden on our resources, preventing us from being able to expeditiously…
