Film Celebrating Bible’s Role in WWI Is Too Religious for British Theater Chain

A British theater chain has rejected a three-minute World War I tribute with a Bible theme, deeming it too religious for the moviegoing public.

Empire Cinemas, an independent theater chain with more than 120 screens at 14 locations in the United Kingdom, doesn’t run religious or political ads even if they are tied to current events, according to The Guardian newspaper. The three-minute short film by the Bible Society was to be run leading up to Armistice Day, Nov. 11. It showed black and white footage of British soldiers in World War I. The film noted that all soldiers were given Bibles.

“Over 9 million men and women from across Britain and the Commonwealth served in World War One. All British soldiers were given a Bible as part of their kit,” the words on the screen read. “To many it was a source of hope for eternal peace”

The short film then switched to the modern day and showed U.K. citizens quoting Revelation 21:1-7.

It concluded with words on the screen: “The Bible. Still giving peace and hope today.”

The Bible Society hired advertising company Pearl & Dean to distribute the film. Pearl & Dean told the British Society in an email that exhibitors “get veto over any sort of religious or political ad. I am sorry to deliver this news, but unfortunately they do get final say.”

Mom Whose Son was Killed in California Mass Shooting Says, ‘I Hope to God Nobody Sends Me Anymore Prayers’

Mom Whose Son was Killed in California Mass Shooting Says, ‘I Hope to God Nobody Sends Me Anymore Prayers’

The tragic shooting on Wednesday in Thousand Oaks, California, took the lives of 12 unsuspecting people. One of the victims was 27-year-old Telemachus Orfanos, a survivor of last year’s Las Vegas shooting.

Orfanos’ mother, Susan, spoke out in a recent interview with ABC 13 saying, “My son was in Las Vegas with a lot of his friends and he came home. He didn’t come home last night, and I don’t want prayers. I don’t want thoughts. I want gun control, and I hope to God nobody sends me anymore prayers. I want gun control. No more guns,” pleaded the grieving mother.

According to USA Today, the horrific events occurred after 28-year-old David Long entered the Borderline Bar and Grill, set off a smoke device, and open fired into the crowd.

Orfanos, who served two-and-a-half years in the navy, was a survivor of the 2017 Route 91 music festival shooting in which 58 individuals were killed and nearly 500 were left wounded.

The victim’s father, Marc Orfanos, addressed the heartbreaking irony, stating: “It is particularly ironic that after surviving the worst mass shooting in modern history, he went on to be killed in his hometown.”

Pastor Shawn Thorton of Cavalry Community Church in Westlake Village informed ABC 2 that 20 to 30 members were visiting Borderline Bar and Grill when the massacre took place. He also stated…

Kenneth Copeland Devotional 13 November 2018 – Stake Your Claim

Topic: Stake Your Claim [Kenneth Copeland Devotional 13 November 2018]

Praise ye the Lord. Blessed is the man that feareth the Lord, that delighteth greatly in his commandments…. Wealth and riches shall be in his house: and his righteousness endureth for ever.Psalm 112:1, 3

I’ll never forget the time Gloria discovered that scripture. We didn’t have any money at the time, and the walls in our house were as bare as they could be. But she was ready to decorate. So she took that promise, “Wealth and riches shall be in his house” and laid claim to it by faith.

Suddenly, everywhere we went, someone was giving us a painting or some other little treasure for our house.

Unfortunately, most believers aren’t as quick to believe God for that kind of thing as Gloria was. Some even claim God doesn’t promise us New Testament believers physical prosperity, just spiritual. But the truth is, you can’t separate the two. That’s why Jesus says, “If you’ll seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, then all these [material] things will be added to you.” He knows the spiritual realm and the material realm are connected.

The physical world cannot operate independently from the spiritual world. What happens in one is simply a reflection of what happens in the other.

Obviously, your spiritual standing profoundly affects your financial standing. That’s why, when you get hold of the gospel and begin to prosper spiritually, you can begin to prosper physically and materially as well.

Don’t let anyone talk you out of God’s promises of prosperity. You don’t have to choose between financial and spiritual prosperity. Both belong to you. Lay claim to them by faith. As a born-again child of God, dare to reach out and receive the riches that belong to you!

Scripture Reading: Deuteronomy 7:8-13

Andrew Wommack Devotional 13 November 2018: The “Old Man” Is Dead

Topic: The “Old Man” Is Dead [Andrew Wommack Devotional 13 November 2018]

Mark 14:41 “And he cometh the third time, and saith unto them, Sleep on now, and take your rest: it is enough, the hour is come; behold, the Son of man is betrayed into the hands of sinners.”

It is not our individual acts of sin that make us a sinner. It is our sin nature that makes us commit individual acts of sin. Adam’s one sin produced a sin nature in all men that in turn, caused each person to commit individual acts of sin. Jesus not only dealt with the original sin that contaminated the human race, but He also dealt with each individual act of sin.

Anyone who is trying to obtain righteousness through their actions is totally missing the point. Believers are made righteous through faith in Christ, independent of their actions. It’s the same way that everyone was made a sinner: through Adam’s one sin, not through our individual sins.

At salvation, our old man (Rom. 6:6) or sin nature died, but the tendency to sin remains in the thoughts and emotions that the old man left behind. No longer does the Christian have a sin nature that compels him to sin, but he must simply deal with renewing his mind.

Sin ruled like a king through condemnation to bring death upon everyone.

Condemnation is like the general of sin that enforces its power. Likewise, God’s grace now rules like a king through righteousness to bring all who are in Christ into eternal life. Righteousness is the general of grace who defends us against all the wiles of the devil.

Remove guilt or condemnation and sin loses its strength to rule (1 Cor. 15:56). Remove the knowledge of righteousness by faith, and grace loses its power to release eternal life into our daily lives.

‘Fantastic Beasts 2’ Will Have 2 Gay Characters, ‘Sensual’ Scenes, Director Says

‘Fantastic Beasts 2’ Will Have 2 Gay Characters, ‘Sensual’ Scenes, Director Says

The director of Fantastic Beasts 2: The Crimes of Grindelwald says two characters in the upcoming film are gay and in love, although they aren’t open about it.

The Fantastic Beasts series is a prequel to the Harry Potter films, which were based on books by J.K. Rowling. Rowling said in 2007 that the book character Albus Dumbledore is gay, even though there were no hints of that in any of the seven novels. She also said he had fallen in love with the wizard Grindelwald as a teenager. Dumbledore is head of the Hogwarts wizarding school.

“This part of this huge narrative that [J.K. Rowling] is creating doesn’t focus on his sexuality, but we’re not airbrushing or hiding it,” director David Yates told Empire magazine. “…The story [of the romantic relationship] isn’t there in this particular movie, but it’s clear in what you see … that he is gay.”

Yates added, “A couple of scenes we shot are very sensual moments of him and the young Grindelwald.”

The movie is rated PG-13. Fantastic Beasts 2is the second installment in a planned five-movie series.

New York State Episcopal Church Bishop Reaffirms Ban on Gay Marriage in Diocese

(Photo: Facebook/Episcopal Diocese of Albany)The Rt. Rev. William H. Love, bishop of The Episcopal Diocese of Albany.

A bishop of The Episcopal Church whose diocese is based in the capital of New York has announced that his churches will not perform same-sex marriage ceremonies.

Earlier this year, the Episcopal Church General Convention passed a resolution allowing for congregations to perform gay weddings even in dioceses where leadership objects. The new policy is scheduled to take effect on the first Sunday of Advent, Dec. 2.

This stood in contrast to a resolution passed by the General Convention in 2015 that allowed bishops opposed to same-sex marriage to maintain a ban on such unions within their diocese.

Bishop William Love of the Episcopal Diocese of Albany released a lengthy pastoral letter on Saturday officially stating that the gay marriage rites approved earlier this year “shall not be used anywhere in the Diocese of Albany by diocesan clergy (canonically resident or licensed).”

“Jesus is calling the Church to follow His example. He is calling the Church to have the courage to speak His Truth in love about homosexual behavior – even though it isn’t politically correct,” stated Bishop Love.

“Sexual relations between two men or two women was…

Billy Graham Devotional 13 November 2018 – Heart Trouble

Topic: Heart Trouble [Billy Graham Devotional 13 November 2018]

I beg you to keep away from the evil pleasures of this world . . . — 1 Peter 2:11 (TLB)

We all know there is no such thing as absolute freedom. We cannot drive down the street at 100 miles an hour. You can’t swing your fist at me, because your freedom stops at the end of my nose. We can say that we want freedom to publish pornography, to push harmful drugs, to have unrestricted sex, to lie, to cheat; but if we continue with that kind of permissive freedom, we shall destroy ourselves.

Man can remain free only so long as he has the moral power to restrain his appetites. Basically, our problem is heart trouble. Our hearts need to be changed … peace will never come until we have changed human nature, until people begin loving each other instead of hating each other.

Prayer for the day: I need Your guidelines in my life, Lord. Loving You frees me from the bondage of my carnal appetite.

Rick Warren recovering after surgery

Saddleback Church in California is a megachurch, with Rick Warren being the senior pastor, having founded the church with his wife Kay Warren when he was 26.

Also the author or ‘The Purpose Driven Church’, Rick Warren’s news of surgery was announced on Thursday.

In an email to his congregation, he said: “At about 7 pm on Wednesday evening while at home by myself, I suddenly doubled over in an attack of excruciating abdominal pain.”

He explained that his wife was on a plane to speak at a Vineyard conference in Northern Ireland but that his son happened to ring him.

“He rushed over to drive me to an Urgent Care facility, where the doctor administered shots of antibiotics and a painkiller and advised me to get a CT scan the next morning. But as Josh and I were leaving, my body started shaking uncontrollably, so the Urgent Care doctor insisted that we immediately go to a hospital ER.”

“At the hospital, the staff got my CT scan which revealed that my intestine had perforated and was releasing infection into the abdominal area.  So I quickly had emergency surgery and I am now recovering.

“Thank you, everyone, for your prayers and love. I love you all back! God has been so good to me. FYI. I’ve been told that I will need a second surgery after Christmas.  Bless you all!”

Rick Warren Rushed to the Hospital for Emergency Surgery

Rick Warren Rushed to the Hospital for Emergency Surgery

Rick Warren, pastor at the 22,000-member Saddleback Church in southern California, was hospitalized late last week. News of his situation became public when a conference where his wife, Kay, was scheduled to speak shared an update about her cancellation on Facebook

The organizers of the “Illuminate” conference in Northern Ireland told those scheduled to attend that, “Today, as our speaker, Kay Warren, was in the air just a few hours from arrival, she received unexpected news of a family medical emergency. He is in surgery as this update is released. He is expected to fully recover, but of course, Kay is immediately returning to the United States to be with her family.”

Later, she commented on the conference’s Facebook post and updated them on his condition. She said, “Hello dear friends – just an update on Rick. He is much better today! The surgery went even better than expected and he will be released in a few days. Things were quite serious for a day but he is strong and tough and he is on the road to recovery!”

Saturday night the church sent an email from Warren to the congregation with an explanation of his condition. It read:

By now you may have heard that I needed an emergency surgery early Thursday morning. At about 7 pm on Wednesday evening while at home by myself, I suddenly doubled over in an attack of excruciating abdominal pain. Kay (his wife)…

Traidcraft in fresh bid to avoid closure of trading arm

The workforce of Traidcraft plc shall shrink from 67 to twelve under the blueprint. Twenty-two people have already accepted voluntary redundancy.

The proposals, which have been approved by the organisation’s board, are due to come in effect next year.

Chief executive officer, Robin Roth told Premier: “A couple of people come forward with plans.

“We’ve got some outside help, we’ve got a lot of support from people who really value Traidcraft and we think we’ve got a plan that can take us forward.

“We’ve been through the value and we’re now coming out in the uplands, it seems.”

The changes – designed to reverse losses – will weed out product ranges which are not generating profit.

In September, the organisation warned recent poor trading threatened to force the closure of Traidcraft plc in its entirety.

Founded in 1979, Traidcraft plc sells Fairtrade coffee, sugar and chocolate – as well things such as rugs and baskets from Bangladesh.
