Congressman-Elect Dan Crenshaw Roasts Pete Davidson on Saturday Night Live

After Saturday Night Live Comedian Pete Davidson cracked a controversial joke about Former Navy Seal and newly elected Republican Texas Congressman Dan Crenshaw last week, the war veteran appeared on SNL to make amends with Davidson.

Before the mid-term elections last Tuesday, SNL aired an episode where Pete Davidson compared the war veteran to a “hit man from a porno movie.” Crenshaw, who lost his eye when an IED explosion during his third tour in Afghanistan, wears an eye-patch, a detail that Davidson used as the center of his joke.

After this episode aired, Davidson and SNL, who received heavy backlash for the insensitive joke, received a response from the Congressman-elect.

In a video message posted by Crenshaw, he said, “I want us to get away from this culture where we demand apologies every time someone miss speaks. I think that would be very healthy for our nation to go in that direction.”

Crenshaw continued encouraging people not to be angry with Davidson and SNL saying, “We don’t need to be outwardly outraged. I don’t need you to demand apologies from them, they can do whatever they want. They’re feeling the heat from around the country right now and that’s fine.”

He added, “But I would like him (Pete Davidson) and Saturday Night Live to recognize something. That Veterans across the country probably don’t feel as though their…

Home schooling up by 78 per cent, religion a key reason

Figures from local authorities obtained by Sky News suggest 45,000 are currently having lessons away from the classroom.

The primary reasons given by parents are religious, philosophical or cultural beliefs.

Karen Berghorst and her husband educated their two daughters from home until the age of 16. Both graduated from university after going to college.

She told Premier Christian Radio’s News Hour that the absence of faith in schools was a key factor for them: “Our eldest daughter was at her school at the time and we noticed that Christianity was just one of many equally acceptable options.”

Karen also wanted a different style of education for her children.

“There didn’t seem to be enough time to do the things I thought I would do with my child, you know, being creative,” she said. “She’d spend six days in school and often come home tired and would have at least half an hour of homework.

“And we felt a little uncomfortable with the growing power of peer influence.”

They were introduced to the option by a family at church who had home educated their four children and Karen thought about trying it for a year.

She explained that it was during that year they became more sure it was something they wanted to commit to.

“We just noticed that she had a lot more freedom to invest in the subjects and pursuits that she was really gifted at and interested in”, she added that having…

According to CBS News, the Camp Fire began on Thursday and has claimed 29 lives. Officials are fearing that the death toll will rise as search and rescue missions press on. The Camp Fire is the most destructive wildfire in the state’s history.

Further south, the Woolsey Fire has burned through Malibu homes and mansions in Southern California. According to CBS News, the Woolsey Fire has claimed the lives of two people so far. Reportedly the Woolsey Fire and the Hill Fire, which are not too far from each other, have prompted the evacuation of over 250,000 people.

California’s governor, Jerry Brown is calling for the President to declare a “major disaster” in the state.

The Christian Post reports that the Woolsey Fire has been 15 percent contained, while the Camp Fire has only been 25 percent contained.

Atheist Minister Keeps Position After Confidential Settlement With United Church of Canada

(Screenshot: YouTube/CBC News: The National)Rev. Gretta Vosper of Toronto’s West Hill United Church in this March 25, 2016 interview.

A United Church of Canada minister who declared that she doesn’t believe in God will be allowed to keep her position after reaching an agreement with church officials.

The Canadian Press reported last week that the settlement reached with the Rev. Gretta Vosper of Toronto is confidential, though both sides stated they are pleased with it.

The Right Rev. Richard Bott, who has led the United Church in Canada since July, pointed to the core values of faith in God and inclusiveness as part of the reason why Vosper will be allowed to continue her service.

“The dance between these core values, how they interact with and inform each other, is one that we continue to explore as followers of Jesus and children of the creator,” he said. “As a Christian church, we continue to expect that ministers in the United Church of Canada will offer their leadership in accordance with our shared and agreed upon statements of faith.”

Vosper, who was ordained in 1993 and has served West Hill United Church since 1997, has reportedly for years been open about her lack of faith in God.

She says that most of her congregants have been supportive of her views, though…

Fresh concerns raised over safety of Asia Bibi

Supporters expressed dismay that Ms Bibi, who had been on death row for eight years, is being barred from leaving the country – pending a review of the decision to clear her.

The British Pakistani Christian Association raised fears for Ms Bibi’s security arrangements, given the assassinations of two politicians who spoke out in her defence.

Chairman, Wilson Chowdhry told Premier she remains under the guard of security officers in the capital city, Islamabad.

He explained: “She’s being protected by the Pakistani Government by their own security forces, the same security forces that failed to protect Salmaan Taseer, Shabaz Bhatti [pictured below] and [former prime minister] Benazir Bhutto.

“So, obviously, as you can imagine, people around the world are quite frightened about how safe she is.

The Pakistan government bowed to calls from members of the Islamist hard-line Tehreek-e-Labaik political party to stop Asia Bibi from leaving the country until her acquittal is reviewed.

Meanwhile, a number of western countries – including Canada and Italy – have offered Asia asylum.

Wilson Chowdhry went on to say: “We are confident that no Supreme Court judge is going to reach any decision counter to the one that was given by the most senior Supreme Court judges in her last appeal hearing.

“We totally believe that this will be…

Christian Counseling & Educational Foundation’s David Powlison Has Stage 4 Pancreatic Cancer

(Screenshot: YouTube/The Gospel Coalition)David Powlison, the executive director of the Christian Counseling & Educational Foundation in this The Gospel Coalition video uploaded on May 2, 2018.

David Powlison, the executive director of the Christian Counseling & Educational Foundation, has revealed following major surgery that he has stage 4 pancreatic cancer.

“I am deeply thankful for your continuing prayers, expressions of support, and encouragement. I am now recuperating at home from a delicate, major surgery,” Powlison wrote in an update on the CCEF website last week.

“The outcome proved to be very different from what my doctors hoped and expected. We all went into this surgery thinking it was a stage 1 operable tumor; mid-way through, the surgeon discovered that it is stage 4 pancreatic cancer. Needless to say, this is hard news. We are just beginning to process it,” he added.

The senior editor of the Journal of Biblical Counseling said that he and his wife, Nan, are focusing on pain management and healing, seeking comfort in Jesus Christ.

“Next week’s days will bring a different focus as we meet with our oncologist to begin discussing options and scenarios going forward,” Powlison wrote.

“We are comforted by the liveliness of God’s words to us. He is with us, as so…

JRR Tolkien’s Son Part of UK Inquiry Into Catholic Church Mishandling Child Sex Abuse Allegations

(Photo: REUTERS/Alessandro Bianchi)Bishops waits under umbrellas before Pope Francis opens a Catholic Holy Year, or Jubilee, in St. Peter’s Square, at the Vatican, December 8, 2015.

The top Roman Catholic archbishop in the U.K. is set to face pressing questions over the way the church has handled child sex abuse allegations, including over the clergy son of JRR Tolkien.

Cardinal Vincent Nichols, the Archbishop of Westminster, is set to be questioned this week by the Independent Inquiry into Child Sexual Abuse, The Telegraph reported.

The investigation will look into how major British institutions tackled sex abuse claims, with the Catholic Church attracting major controversy for relocating abusing priests in dioceses around the world.

Nichols’ former Archdiocese of Birmingham is set to be examined, including how it handled allegations of abuse against Father John Tolkien, the son of famous author JRR Tolkien, who wrote The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit fantasy novels.

Senior church officials are being blamed for allowing Fr. Tolkien, who died in 2003, to continue working as a priest despite an alleged victim coming forward against him years earlier.

The man, Christopher Carrie, accused the priest of sexually abusing him twice in November 1956, when he was…

Four other priests managed to escape.

The group had been on their way to All Saints seminary – their Alma Mater in Edo State, where they planned to celebrate their tenth year of priesthood.

The Chancellor of the Archdiocese of Benin, Fr. Mike Oyanoafoh announced the priest’s release and said in a statement: “To God be the glory.

“I am happy to announce to you that Fr Joseph Ediae and three other priests of Warri, Ijebu Ode and Abeokuta Dioceses have been released.”

According to the Delta state Police Commissioner, Mr Muhhammad Mustafa arrests suspects have already been arrested.

No details have been given on the priest’s health or what led to their release.

The Foreign and Commonwealth Office advise against all but essential travel to Abia State and non-riverine areas of Delta, Bayelsa and Rivers States.

Militant groups are active across the Niger Delta area and there’s a high risk of armed robbery, criminality and criminal kidnap in the area.

Chip and Joanna Gaines returning to TV

When Chip and Joanna Gaines began remodeling homes, they had no idea that God would turn their business into a global witness. Their television show became the most-watched series in the history of HGTV, with an estimated audience of twenty-five million viewers.

Chip and Joanna left their show to have a fifth child and take time off for their family. But they announced last Friday on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon that they are about to return to television. Discovery has confirmed that it is in exclusive talks to create a lifestyle-focused media network for the couple. Consistent with their Christian faith, the Gaineses hope “to build a different kind of platform for unique, inspiring and family-friendly content.”

Our culture needs such content more than ever.

When Billy and Ruth Graham received the Congressional Gold Medal in 1996, Dr. Graham told an assembly of our nation’s most powerful leaders: “You know the problems as well as I do–crime and violence, children taking weapons to school, broken families, drugs, teenage pregnancy, and corruption. The list is almost endless. We have confused liberty with license, and we are paying the awful price.”

In the two decades since, has our culture moved closer to God or further from him?

An advisor to twelve presidents

Billy Graham spent his first birthday in heaven this week.

The man who preached to more people than anyone in Christian history passed into God’s presence last February. He would have turned one hundred last Thursday. And so, he celebrated his first century of life with the One who gave him eternal life.

Speaking of the man she called “Daddy,” Anne Graham Lotz remembered his love for “old blue jeans, comfortable sweaters, and a baseball cap.” As she thought about his remarkable mind and heart, she noted: “I can’t help but also think of his message because he was immersed in it. Saturated in it. He was his message . . . a simple man who had responded to God’s…

Confusion over images claiming Asia Bibi has left Pakistan

Information minister Fawad Chaudhry slammed the postings on Monday, one of which claims to show Asia Bibi meeting Pope Francis. The photo is actually of Ms Bibi’s daughter from two years ago.

Mr Chaudhry says the images misidentifying Ms Bibi prompted death threats to a politician in one photograph.

Radical Islamists have blocked Ms Bibi’s freedom and demanded she be publicly executed. They have also filed a petition to repeal her Supreme Court acquittal.

The government says Ms Bibi remains in Pakistan, at a secret location for her own protection, until the review process is finished.

Prime Minister Imran Khan has warned radical religious groups against using her plight to further their political aims with street protests.

Supporters of Pakistani radical groups burn a poster of Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan.

He has defended the Supreme Court judges who on October 21 acquitted the 54-year-old mother-of-five of blasphemy charges but has also acquiesced to Islamists that the acquittal be reviewed in an appeal process.

Blasphemy is a highly charged issue in Pakistan, where mere allegations or accusations that someone had insulted the Prophet Mohammed can incite mobs into a frenzy of violence. The charge also carries the death penalty and critics say the controversial blasphemy law is abused to…
