Seven Sentences That Make Pastors Cringe

I love the fact that the community of this blog is growing with pastors, church staff, and laity. The latter category, laity or church members, has been very receptive to many of my posts and suggestions. A church member from Virginia recently told me at conference where I was speaking, “I read your posts because I learn things I would have never known from the perspective of the pastor.” The lady who said that is now the leader of the intercessory prayer ministry of the church, a ministry that includes specific intercession for her pastor.

It is in that spirit that I offer these seven sentences. My purpose is simply to convey information you might not have considered otherwise. Many pastors hear these sentences frequently, even though the church member may think his or her comment is both novel and helpful.

  1. “I heard a podcast pastor preach on the same text. Let me tell you how he dealt with it.” The pastor often receives this statement as, “Let me tell you how good preaching actually sounds.”
  2. “We believe we should pay the pastor as low as possible to keep him humble.” Of course, that church member rarely wants to practice the same humility.
  3. “Our church is big enough. We don’t need any more new members.” Perhaps the church should place a sign outside saying. “Closed for business. No longer practicing the Great Commission.”
  4. “I wish I had your schedule.” Translation: “It must be nice to work only one day a week.” Sigh.
  5. “I love you pastor but . . .” The pastor…

Christian ejected from student group over ‘her beliefs’

Isabella Chow, a senator within the Associated Students of the University of California (ASUC) body, has been disaffiliated with the Student Action party following her comments.

During an ASUC debate which touched upon gender identity, Chow said she believed God created man and woman and that marriage should only be between one man and one woman.

She was quoted by The Daily Californian news website as saying: “I cannot vote for these bills without compromising my values and my responsibility to the community who elected me to represent them.

“As a Christian, I do believe that there are certain… lifestyles that conflict with what is good, right and true.”

The business and music student added that she loves all people and all identities are valid.

Fellow senator Teddy Lake, an advocate for members of the LGBTQ+ community, was quoted by The Daily Californian as saying: “I don’t feel comfortable being told that I’m valid and then saying that you disagree with me and my community.”

Student Action suggested Chow’s views on abortion were another attributing factor to her being dropped as a party representative.

In a statement posted on Facebook, leaders said: “As a party, we are committed to ensuring that the rights and dignity of the queer and trans community on this campus are guaranteed…

“As a party, we are committed to…

Joyce Meyer Devotional 12 November 2018 — Retire from Self-Care

Topic: Retire from Self-Care [Joyce Meyer Devotional 12 November 2018]

O God, You are my God; early will I seek You… — Psalm 63:1 (NKJV)

God wants to take care of you, and He can do a much better job of it if you will avoid a problem called independence, which is really self-care.

The desire to take care of yourself is based on fear. You are afraid of what might happen if you entrust yourself totally to God and He doesn’t come through for you. The root problem of independence is you trust yourself more than you trust God.

People love to have a backup plan. You may ask God to get involved in your life, but if He doesn’t respond as quickly as you’d like, you take control back into your own hands.

But God has a plan for you—and His plan is much better than yours. So, give yourself to Him and see what happens. I promise you won’t be disappointed.

Prayer Starter: Father, I can’t do it on my own. Help me to place my trust in You and turn over complete control. I want Your plan for my life. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Love: Foundation For A Healthy Family Relationship (Part 1) By Pastor Faith Oyedepo

Love: Foundation For A Healthy Family Relationship (Part 1) By Pastor Faith Oyedepo

Topic: Love: Foundation For A Healthy Family Relationship (Part 1)

Dear Readers,

Peace and blessings in the precious Name of our Lord, Jesus Christ. I welcome you to the eleventh month of the year, and I pray that it shall be a month filled with loads of blessings and testimony for you and your family in Jesus name.

One of the greatest blessings of building on the right foundation is that it gives you lasting happiness, peace and fulfilment; one that money cannot buy. This is why in this edition; I shall be sharing with you the topic: Love: Foundation for a healthy family Relationship.

The Bible says in 1 Corinthians 13:4-8a: Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up, Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil; Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth; Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things. Charity never faileth…

This passage of the Bible has clearly defined what love is and what love is not. Love should be expressed but way beyond it been expressed it should be demonstrated by your actions.

What is love?

The Advanced Learners Dictionary defines love as warm liking or affection. It is also described as an affectionate devotion. Love is a major requirement for a healthy family Relationship. It is the major material required in building and transforming your house into a home. Someone said, “Love is what makes the house a home.”

Also Read: Family Happiness Begins with You (Part 4) By Pastor Faith Oyedepo

God is Love and His utmost desire is that our homes are heaven on earth. Love is the foundation for a healthy family relationship. The Bible says “If the foundations be destroyed, what can the righteous do”? (Psalm 11:3)

A Family represents a group of people who are related to each other, such as the mother, the father, and their children or other persons who might not be related by blood. A family share emotional bonds, common values, goals and responsibilities. Family members contribute significantly to the wellbeing of each other.

Every member of the family has his or her unique love role/responsibility to play in building the family. The Understanding of every member of the family’s responsibility is very vital in ensuring a healthy family relationship. Most a time’s conflict arises in home when responsibility is pushed from one person the others. The Bible says: Through wisdom is an house builded; and by understanding it is established (Proverb 24:3).

Every individual member of the family is involved in building a healthy family relationship and must locate their individual roles. However, true love can’t be expressed without knowing the origin of love. God Himself is love. A man once said “any man who doesn’t love God can’t know how to love aright”.

The love responsibility is the master key to a healthy marriage. Love is the instrument a man uses to make his wife a glorious woman, without spot or wrinkle. While submission for a woman is characterised by love.

The world has the notation that love is not enough in marriage, there are other things that must be in place to make the marriage work properly, but the truth is, love is the foundation of all other things you might be expecting. The Bible says: And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, and have not charity, it profiteth me nothing (1 Corinthians 13:3). Everything works by love, including your marriage.

Once a man loves his wife as God loves the Church and a woman submits to her husband in love, then the devil cannot gain access to their home. Love is the summary of God’s covenant obligation for man. However, no man has the capacity to love someone else without first loving God genuinely from the heart and you can’t claim to love God without accepting Jesus as your Lord and Savoir, and becoming His child. Jesus is the expression of God’s love to humanity. For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. John 3:16

You can be His child by confessing your sins and accepting Him as your Lord and Saviour. If you have not asked Jesus to come into your life or may have neglected your initial love for Him, then you should say this prayer in faith: Dear Lord, I come to You today. I am a sinner. Forgive me my sins and cleanse me with Your Blood. I accept You as my Lord and personal Saviour. Make me a child of God today, teach me to love even as you loved us. Thank You for delivering me from sin and satan to serve the living God and thank You for accepting me into Your Kingdom.

Congratulations! If you prayed this simple prayer of faith with me, you are now born again and a child of God. He loves you and will never leave you. Read your Bible daily, obey God’s Word and seek Christian fellowship (John 14:21).

With this, you are guaranteed all-round rest and peace in Jesus’ Name! Call or write to share your testimonies with me through [email protected], 07026385437 OR 08141320204.

TREM Devotional 12 November 2018 – Fear Not

Topic: Fear Not [TREM Devotional 12 November 2018]

“And he answered, Fear not: for they that be with us are more than they that be with them.” 2 Kings 6:16 KJV

What shall we do? How am I going to eat? How am I going to pay school fees? How am I going to buy that car? And the list goes on and on. But Jesus said “take no thought saying….”(Matthew 6:31). That is how the Gentiles function but your “heavenly Father knoweth that you have need of all these things(Matthew 6:32).

You see, one of the strategies of the devil in the midst of battle is to show you what he is doing. He capitalizes on situations and paints scary pictures. He paints pictures that are horrible to show you that you can never succeed. And it is what you do at such times that determine whether you are victorious or not. The devil functions perfectly in the sense realm. That is why the Bible emphasises that the just shall live by faith – Gal. 3:11

Notice that the first statement that came from the lips of the man of God is “Fear not”. Because once there is fear, there is an absence of faith. Once fear enters the room, faith jumps out. He didn’t even think about it, he said fear not.

Beloved, get fear out of your life if you want to enjoy the abundance of God now. Sometimes, you may not agree that you are afraid but your actions and attitude reveal that you are afraid.

Today, I want to assure you that God cannot abandon you. Make the greatest plan of your life. Put yourself in a position where if God does not bring you out, you can’t come out. That is the position that you should be in. Fear not, for those that are with you are greater and are more than they that are against you. The resources available to you are more than what you are encountering. No matter the challenges you face, know assuredly that your resources are more. The problem is that you have failed to see it. And my prayer for you today is that God will open your eyes to see.

Memorise: For we can do nothing against the truth, but for the truth. 2 Corinthians 13:8

Read: Ephesians 6:13-18 (KJV)

Bible In One Year: Ezekiel 1-3, Hebrews 9

MESSAGE:

To remain victorious in the battle against the kingdom of darkness, you must never joke with your battle gear; they are listed in Ephesians 6:13-18. However, you must first be saved before you can be enlisted into this army, thereafter, you must ensure that your helmet of salvation is always worn to protect your head. Another battle gear is the belt of truth. Belts help to hold your clothes together and they make you look smart. Belts are worn on a very sensitive position of the body bordering on the navel which is linked with the foundation or root of a man’s life. Truth is very crucial to a soldier of the cross. Truth helps to hold everything in your body, family, school et cetera, together. If truth is missing, everything else will be in shambles. Whatever happens, stick to the truth.

In addition, you must live a righteous life; this is the breastplate that secures your heart. Any soldier of Christ who lives in sin must expect to be defeated, disappointed and hurt at times. Besides this, you must wear the Gospel boots by evangelizing regularly. This protects your feet, helps you to tread on your enemies and go through bad terrains. Are you wearing the right gear?

Action Point: According to Psalm 33:4, everything God does is in truth. Ask that from today, whatever you do will be in truth in Jesus’ name.

1. Christian, seek not yet repose
Hear thy gracious Savior say;
Thou art in the midst of foes:
Watch and pray.

2. Principalities and power
Mustering their unseen array
Wait for the unguarded hours:
Watch and pray

3. Gird the heavenly armor on,
Wear it ever night and day;
Ambushed lies the evil one:
Watch and pray.

4. Hear the victors who o’ercame,
Still they mark each warrior’s way;
All with one sweet voice exclaim,
Watch and pray.

5. Hear, above all, hear thy Lord,
Him thou loves to obey;
Hide within thy heart His word:
Watch and pray.

6. Watch, as if on that alone
Hung the issue of the day;
Pray, that help may be sent down:
Watch and pray.

Rick Warren Recovering After Emergency Surgery

(Photo: Saddleback Church/Screengrab)Pastor Rick Warren delivers an Easter sermon at Saddleback Church.

Pastor Rick Warren is recovering after an emergency surgery.

Warren, best-selling author and pastor of Saddleback Church, Lake Forest, California, was rushed to a hospital Thursday morning and immediate surgery was required for a perforated intestine.

Rick’s wife, Kay Warren was mid-flight to Northern Ireland when she heard the news and immediately flew back to be with her husband, according to an update posted to the Causeway Coast Vineyard Church Facebook page. CCV was hosting Kay Warren for the Illuminate Women’s Conference.

Sunday, Rick Warren notified church members of his condition via email.

“Fortunately, my son, Josh, called me at the same moment of my pain, and he rushed over to drive me to an Urgent Care facility, where the doctor administered shots of antibiotics and a painkiller and advised me to get a CT scan the next morning. But as Josh and I were leaving, my body started shaking uncontrollably, so the Urgent Care doctor insisted that we immediately go to a hospital ER,” Warren explained in the email obtained by CBN News.

He also explained why emergency surgery was needed.

“At the hospital, the staff got my CT scan which revealed that my intestine had…

MFM Daily Devotional 12 November 2018 – The Mystery Of Evil Altars

MFM Mountain Top Life Daily Devotional 12 November 2018 By Dr. D.K Olukoya – The Mystery Of Evil Altars

TOPIC: The Mystery Of Evil Altars (Mountain Of Fire and Miracle Ministries, MFM Daily Devotional 12 November 2018)

FIRE SCRIPTURE: Ephesians 6:10-12

MEMORY VERSE: “Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you.” – Luke 10:19

The MESSAGE:

In the Fire Scripture, there are four categories in the realm of darkness (i) Principalities, (ii) Powers, (iii) Rulers of the darkness of this world and (iv) Spiritual wickedness in high places. In hierarchy, the “Powers” are next to the “Principalities”. They are transcendental and terrestrial spirits. That is, they can be found in the second heaven and on earth. They are called smaller gods, and they can be carved, molded, or built and worshipped by people. They are idols that people worship all over the world. They are the ancestral spirits and idols. These powerful demons are ten (10) in number. They are equal in rank but have different responsibilities. They are the brain behind every evil altar. They enforce whatever instruction the priest at their evil altar pronounces. These priests are part of the human rulers of darkness of this world that work for these powers.

Beloved, these powers are the ones in charge of every evil covenant made through blood, food, sexual immorality, dance, charms, sacrifices, amulets and so on. They have local names in every language, for example, Ogun, Sango, Amadioha and so on. Biblically, their names include: Asteroth, Gog, Magog, Baal, Asmodee, Mammon, etc. Every Idol worshipped at any evil altar is supervised by an evil priest who is also among them. For example, Ogun has biblical resemblance to the idol of Magog. Obviously, these evil powers seek man’s worship in order to insult God. These powers got connected to us through our forefathers who worshiped them at the altar they created for worshipping them. Priests are usually appointed, empowered and assigned to influence people to worship them directly or indirectly.

In most cases, only the priest can see them and communicate with them. They are active; they are in authority, and they have symbols and materials for sacrifices. For example, dogs are sacrificed and used to worship Ogun. If there is anybody in a lineage who refuses to worship them, these powers make desperate attempts to steal their valuables and also frustrate their activities.

Once, a young girl of 16 years old had a dream. In the dream, she ran to an old altar sweating and ransacking the altar, looking for something so precious to her. Unfortunately, she did not find it before she woke up. Her parents were ignorant about dealing with this type of dream, so, the young girl suffered some avoidable delays in her academics until the necessary prayers/deliverance were carried out. These powers also attempt to cause affliction, putting families in bondage up to at least fourth generation. They cause poverty, sicknesses, accidents, mental frustration, barrenness, financial setbacks, attacks and untimely deaths. Beloved, are you experiencing any challenges in your business, career, marriage etc.? You need to pray and pull down their altars, destroy the priest, and pray for a complete restoration.

MOTIVATIONAL QUOTE:
EVERY BLACK MAN HAS A FOUNDATIONAL IDOL. THE DECISION TO BE DELIVERED FROM THIS BONDAGE DEPENDS SOLELY ON THE ATTEMPTS MADE TO DESTROY THEIR ACTIVITIES.

PROPHETIC WORD:
Every ancestral altar prepared for you by your ancestors, calling for your worship, shall crumble.

PRAYER POINTS:

MORNING
1. Father, we thank You for giving us the weapon to fight all battles, in the name of Jesus.
2. You stubborn ancestral idols of my father’s house that is following me, I refuse to worship you, die, in Jesus’ name.
3. Any ancestral power, enjoying what I am supposed to enjoy, your time is up, release them and die, in Jesus’ name.

EVENING
4. Every arrow of disgrace, targeted at me by any ancestral demon because I am born again, backfire, in Jesus’ name.
5. Ancestral queen or king in my father’s house that is claiming to be my wife/husband, I divorce and reject you, in the name of Jesus.
6. You the chief priest in charge of the altar of my father’s house, your time is up, die, in Jesus’ name.
7. Any ancestral power behind my family altar, that has been using my virtues, potential, destiny, star, and glory to shine and reign in the spiritual world, die, in Jesus’ name.

DCLM Daily Manna 12 November 2018 – The Fire We Need

Topic: The Fire We Need [DCLM Daily Manna 12 November 2018 Daily Devotional by Pastor William Folorunso Kumuyi]

Text: Acts 13:1-12 (KJV)

Key Verse: “As they ministered to the Lord, and fasted, the Holy Ghost said, Separate me Barnabas and Saul for the work whereunto I have called them (Acts 13:2).

MESSAGE:

The remedy for a church that would budge is FIRE – the Holy Ghost fire. Have you ever watched a little boy try to get a big old turtle to move? The more he coaxes it, the slower it goes. He then gets a stick and tries to club it. What does the turtle do? It just pulls its head, feet and tail inside its shell for a spell. It just sits there. The little boy gets one corner of the old turtle and props it up with a stick. Then runs to get some matches. He lights the match and holds it under the old turtle. Immediately, things will start happening. If you think a turtle can’t go fast, light up a match stick under Brother Turtle and watch him fly.

In the text, the Holy Ghost gave Barnabas and Saul a special mandate (Acts 13:2). So, they being sent forth by the Holy Ghost, departed for the assignment. At Paphos, they met a sorcerer, false prophet and Jew, who attempted to withstand them and the salvation of the deputy. Then Saul, filled with the power of the Holy Ghost, cast blindness on him. The deputy believed and was astonished at the doctrine of the Lord.

The promised power of the Holy Ghost is given by God the Father to the believer who is thirsty. Christ told the disciples about the promise of the Father while He was with them. The point is, as a believer, there are certain revelations you will never receive and impartations you will never get until the Spirit of God comes into your life.

As a sanctified believer who wants to be extraordinary in the hands of the Almighty, you need the Spirit’s power and fire in your life. Desire, pray earnestly for it and watch it overwhelm you, like the disciples in Christ’s day. With this fire, you will truly begin to enjoy your relationship with God in the fullness of the Spirit.

Thought For The Day: Fire sets ablaze; get baptised in the Holy Ghost.

Seeds of Destiny 12 November 2018 Devotional: The Influential Power of the Blessing

Topic: The Influential Power of the Blessing [Seeds of Destiny 12 November 2018 Devotional]

Scripture: And God blessed Noah and his sons, and said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth. And the fear of you and the dread of you shall be upon every beast of the earthGenesis 9:1-2

Thought For The Day: The Blessing of God makes a person a force to reckon with.

The Blessing of God is a depository of power and influence. That is why a blessed man or woman is man or woman of power and influence. For instance, wherever a prominent person is needed for consultation or support before a major decision is taken, it is a blessed person that fills the space.

The Blessing imparts the supernatural force that positions people for generational influence and impact. When God said to Adam, ‘…replenish the earth’ (Genesis 1:28), it means, ‘…influence and impact your world.’ When a person is blessed, he cannot be an onlooker in life because the Blessing of God makes one a force to reckon with.

Beloved, when the Blessing is on you, it makes you a generational influencer like Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. If you are blessed, you cannot pass through this world and your generation claims ignorance of your existence, whatever be your profession or calling.

Now, I want you to take note of the following key thoughts on the Blessing:
1. The Blessing is necessary for existence as a generational space occupier.
2. The Blessing processes the blessed into a generational problem solver and solution provider.
3. The Blessing causes the blessed to exist as a difference maker (Genesis 30:27-30, Genesis 39:5).

Today, I declare that you shall influence and impact your generation for God, in Jesus’ Name. You are blessed!

Remember this: the Blessing of God makes a person a force to reckon with.

Assignments:
1. Make up mind to influence and impact your generation for God.
2. Develop the mentality of always providing solution and meeting needs; be an asset, not a liability to your generation.

FOR FURTHER UNDERSTANDING, GET THIS MESSAGE: THE POWER OF THE BLESSING

Prayer: Lord, thank You for Your Blessing upon my life. Father, by this Blessing, make me a generational influencer for Your glory, in Jesus’ Name.
