European Central Bank Says a Dozen Eurozone Banks May Need More Capital – Urban Christian News

A dozen euro zone banks holding about 40 percent of the sector’s assets need to strengthen their capital positions, European Central Bank Vice President Luis de Guindos said on Monday, reflecting on the results of a stress test exercise.

The ECB earlier said that it would consider a 5.5 percent common equity tier 1 capital (CET1) level as acceptable in the test but comments from de Guindos suggest that the ECB may be looking a higher level.

“Banks with core capital ratios in the adverse scenario below 9 percent display a weaker, though still satisfactory, capital position,” de Guindos told a conference in Brussels.

“These 12 entities, representing almost 40 percent of total assets of the sector, should increase robustness and enhance capital positions to face challenges ahead and will thus be closely monitored,” he added.

Supreme Court to Consider: Should 93-Year-Old Memorial Cross Be Bulldozed?

Supreme Court to Consider: Should 93-Year-Old Memorial Cross Be Bulldozed?

The U.S. Supreme Court on Friday agreed to hear a church-state case that could have a dramatic impact on religious-themed monuments and war memorial crosses across the country.

The case involves a 93-year-old cross-shaped World War I memorial in Bladensburg, Md., that was erected in 1925 but has been targeted in the courts by the American Humanist Association, which claims it violates the U.S. Constitution’s prohibition on government established religion.

A U.S. district judge upheld the memorial as constitutional, but the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals earlier this year ruled the nearly 100-year-old cross must be removed.

It will be the first major church-state case heard by the Supreme Court with new Justice Brett Kavanaugh on the bench and could bring clarity to the legal landscape.

The case is “The American Legion et al. v. American Humanist Association et al.” The legal group First Liberty Institute is representing The American Legion, which helped erect the cross.

“There are some who want to erase the memory of the service and sacrifice of these 49 fallen servicemen of Prince George’s County,” said Kelly Shackelford, president and CEO of First Liberty. “If this monument is bulldozed to the ground, it’s only a matter of time before the wrecking ball turns on Arlington National Cemetery and the thousands of memorials like this one…

Court Orders Retired King of Belgium to Take Paternity Test – Urban Christian News

The Brussels appeals court has ordered the retired king of Belgium to take a DNA paternity test, overturning an earlier ruling in a suit brought by 50-year-old artist Delphine Boel.

Under the judgment, reported by Boel’s lawyers on Monday, King Albert II must take the test within three months or risk being presumed to be her father — although his lawyers could seek to challenge the court’s legal argument.

The 84-year-old monarch, who in 2013 abdicated in favor of his son Philippe after 20 years on the throne, has contested Boel’s claim for more than a decade. Court-ordered DNA tests have proved that she is not the daughter of Jacques Boel, scion of one of Belgium’s richest industrial dynasties.

The court could not be reached, and there was no immediate comment from the royal house. Boel’s lawyers said in their statement that they were pleased with the “strong affirmation of the principle of acting in the interests of the child” as she seeks legal confirmation of her true identity.

That identity became a topic of public debate after the publication in 1999 of a biography of Queen Paola, Albert’s Italian wife, which alleged that he had had a long extra-marital relationship from which a daughter was born in the 1960s.

Albert, who has no formal public role, has acknowledged that he and Paola had marital difficulties. Their three children are all older than Boel. Next in line to the throne is 17-year-old Princess Elisabeth, daughter of Philippe and Queen Mathilde.

Islamic Militants in Egypt Ambush Christian Pilgrims Killing 7, Wounding 19

Islamic Militants in Egypt Ambush Christian Pilgrims Killing 7, Wounding 19

On Friday, two buses transporting Christian pilgrims in Egypt were ambushed leaving seven dead and up to 16 wounded.

According to the Associated Press, security officials reported that attackers fired off several rounds at the buses which were carrying pilgrims from the Bani Suef and Sohag provinces. The bus from Sohag was carrying 28 pilgrims, 9 of whom were wounded. The bus from Bani Suef had 14 passengers on board, half of them were killed and the other seven were seriously wounded.

AP reports that a spokesman for the Coptic Orthodox Church, Boulos Halim, believes the death toll will rise, local officials even raised the death toll to 10. This figure has not been confirmed at this time.

Reportedly, no group has claimed immediate responsibility for the attack, though according to AP it “bore the hallmarks of Islamic militants” who have repeatedly voiced their contempt with Egyptian Christians because of their support for President Abdel-Fattah el-Sissi. El-Sissi led a military coup in 2013 to oust the Islamist president at the time.

On Friday, the Egyptian President took to Twitter to condemn the attack and offer condolences saying, “I am deeply saddened by the martyrs who fell today with treacherous hands seeking to undermine the fabric of a cohesive homeland… I wish the wounded a speedy recovery and affirm our determination to continue our efforts to…

Kavanaugh Cleared of Wrongdoing in Senate Judiciary Committee Investigation

Kavanaugh Cleared of Wrongdoing in Senate Judiciary Committee Investigation

The Senate Judiciary Committee cleared Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh of all wrongdoing on Saturday, noting that they found “no verifiable evidence” to support sexual misconduct allegations levied against him during his confirmation hearing in September.

Kavanaugh was confirmed into the Supreme Court in September despite facing sexual misconduct allegations by three women.

Kavanaugh’s main accuser, professor of psychology at Palo Alto University Dr. Christine Blasey Ford, accused the judge and his friend Mark Judge of sexually assaulting her and attempting to rape her at a high school party in the 1980s.

These allegations led to a supplemental FBI investigation into the judge, which yielded no evidence of wrong doing on the judge’s part.

The Senate Judiciary Committee also launched an investigation into the judge after he was confirmed to the supreme court which, according to a series of tweets posted on Saturday along with the committee’s official report, also yielded no evidence of wrongdoing.

The Senate Judiciary Committee wrote on Twitter, “Committee investigators spoke with 45 individuals and took 25 written statements relating to the various allegations made in the course of the #SCOTUS confirmation process.”

Iran Accuses Israel of Failed Cyber Attack – Urban Christian News

Iran’s telecommunications minister accused Israel on Monday of a new cyber attack on its telecommunications infrastructure, and vowed to respond with legal action.

This followed comments from another official last week that Iran had uncovered a new generation of Stuxnet, a virus which was used against the country’s nuclear program more than a decade ago.

“The Zionist regime (Israel), with its record of using cyber weapons such as Stuxnet computer virus, launched a cyber attack on Iran on Monday to harm Iran’s communication infrastructures,” Telecommunications Minister Mohammad Javad Azari-Jahromi said.

“Thanks to our vigilant technical teams, it failed,” he said on Twitter. Iran would take legal action against Israel at international bodies, he added, without giving details.

His deputy Hamid Fattahi said more details would be revealed in the coming days, the semi-official Tasnim news agency reported.

Stuxnet, which is widely believed to have been developed by the United States and Israel, was discovered in 2010 after it was used to attack a uranium enrichment facility at Iran’s Natanz underground nuclear site.

It was the first publicly known example of a virus being used to attack industrial machinery.

Last week, Gholamreza Jalali, head of Iran’s civil defense agency, said Iran had neutralized a version of Stuxnet.

“Recently we discovered a new generation of Stuxnet which consisted of several parts … and was trying to enter our systems,” Jalali was quoted as saying by the semi-official ISNA news agency. He gave no further details.

In 2013, researchers at…

Seeds of Destiny 6 November 2018 Devotional – The Compulsory Transactions of Life

Topic: The Compulsory Transactions Of Life [Seeds of Destiny 6 November 2018 Devotional]

Scripture: For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting. Galatians 6:8

Thought For Day: The way you live determines the way you will end in time and in eternity.

It is important to note that the world is said to be like a marketplace where transactions are made. To take in oxygen for instance, a person must give out carbon dioxide. In the same manner, every single action of a person attracts a corresponding outcome as exchange; it may be a loss or gain, in time or in eternity. So, life is all about transactions with both time and eternal consequences.

In Genesis 38:1-11, Judah slept with a woman of Canaan, a tribe of people that both God and his parents never wanted anyone to mingle with. The outcome was a series of calamities because of his failure to adhere to set principles.

Beloved, the way you live determines the way you end in time and in eternity. If there is no law or principle guiding your life, the accident of destiny is not preventable.

If a person forges signature and makes a false certificate to get a job, it is certain that he would have problem in the job because foundation determines destination. The harvest of deception is disaster.

My counsel is, at every point in your life, ensure that what you give is equal to what you get in every transaction; ensure that you are not losing more than you are gaining like Esau who made a disastrous transaction.

Remember this: the way you live determines the way you end in time and in eternity.

Assignments:
1. Always think about the eternal consequence of every action before carrying it out.
2. Study the Scripture continually and follow Scriptural principles for life.
3. Refuse to be influenced by wrong societal influence.

‘Y’all, Don’t Do That Again,’ Texas High School Principal Tells Praying Students

‘Y’all, Don’t Do That Again,’ Texas High School Principal Tells Praying Students

A number of lawyers from First Liberty Institute, one of the nation’s leading defenders of religious liberty, recently challenged the decision made by a Texas high school principal to isolate students who wished to gather and pray with one another when they had a break from classes.

“In other words, the students were told that they could not pray in view of the other students,” First Liberty clarified.

Keisha Russell, who serves as associate counsel for First Liberty, had this to say in regard to the situation: “Students should not have to hide or be exiled to pray for each other. School officials need to remember that students don’t lose their First Amendment rights at the school house gate. We’re hoping this issue can be resolved quickly and easily.”

A letter was sent to Honey Grove Independent School District Superintendent Todd Morrison early last week, describing the series of events that took place.

The legal team disclosed that it was representing Carrie Allen on behalf of her eighth-grade daughter, Hannah stating, “In early September 2018, Hannah and a group of other students decided to pray for one of their former classmates who had recently been in an accident. During lunch when students are permitted to talk and move around the cafeteria, the students walked to an empty table, held hands, and quietly prayed with one…

Pompeo Says US Has Granted Temporary Iran Oil Waivers to 8 Countries Including China – Urban Christian News

The United States has granted exemptions to eight countries allowing them to temporarily continue buying Iranian oil, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said on Monday, as Washington reimposed sanctions on Iran’s banking, energy and shipping industries.

Some of the eight countries – China, India, Greece, Italy, Taiwan, Japan, Turkey and South Korea – include OPEC member Iran’s top customers.

Pompeo said more than 20 countries have already cut their oil imports from Iran, reducing purchases by more than 1 million barrels per day.
