‘Foreigners may be directly targeted’, UK gov warns against travel to Pakistan following Asia Bibi release

Pakistan’s top court has acquitted the Christian woman who was sentenced to death in 2010 on blasphemy charges, a landmark ruling that could ignite mass protests or violence by hard-line Islamists.

Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar announced the verdict to a packed courtroom and ordered Asia Bibi released. She had been held at an undisclosed location for security reasons and is expected to leave the country.

While authorities have stepped up security at churches across the country, protests have already begun.

Shortly after the ruling, hundreds of Islamists blocked a key road linking the city of Rawalpindi with the capital, Islamabad.

Islamists in Pakistan’s largest city of Karachi and in the north-western city of Peshawar were also gathering for the protests. Similar rallies were held elsewhere. Police urged demonstrators to disperse peacefully.

Paramilitary troops were deployed in Islamabad to prevent protesters from reaching the Supreme Court, where security for the judges was beefed up.

PA

In advice on the Foreign Office website, it states: “Protests can occur with little warning and can turn violent quickly. You should avoid demonstrations, large crowds of people and public events.

“Terrorists are very likely to try to carry out attacks in Pakistan. There’s a high threat of…

After a decade in prison, Asia Bibi is free

The Supreme Court in Islamabad ordered the release of Asia Bibi from an undisclosed jail on Wednesday. Her whereabouts has been kept secret for security reasons.

Tahir Khalil Singh, one of Asia Bibi’s lawyers, told Premier: “I am so satisfied. Thanks to Jesus Christ that she is acquitted.

“But… the years she spent in the jail behind the bars in the isolation cell without her children, without his her everything – who will be responsible for these years?”

Mrs Bibi was arrested in 2009 following a row with Muslim women who accused her of making a water cup unclean for them because she had used it.

It was claimed Mrs Bibi made three blasphemous comments about the Prophet Muhammad in the quarrel which followed. Bibi was later convicted of blasphemy and sentenced to death.

Speaking to Premier from Islamabad, Mehwish Bhatti from the British Pakistani Christian Association said: “There are so many blasphemy victims – Christian victims – who are still in prison and are on death sentence like Asia Bibi.

“We need to keep them in [our] prayers as well.”

Hard-line Islamists, who had been demanding her execution, had threatened nationwide protests if Asia Bibi was acquitted.

It is a case which has drawn international attention to Pakistan’s blasphemy laws and divided the nation.

Two senior politicians – a governor and a minister of minorities – who spoke out in support of Bibi…

Joyce Meyer Devotional 31 October 2018 — Has Your Get-Up-and-Go Got Up and Gone?

Topic: Has Your Get-Up-and-Go Got Up and Gone? [Joyce Meyer Devotional 31 October 2018]

Do not be slothful in zeal, be fervent in spirit, serve the Lord. — Romans 12:11

I have times when I get tired of doing what I am doing. We all do. No matter what your position is in life, there will be days when you will not feel like doing it. You might even go through a longer season in which you feel listless and uninterested in almost everything.

There may be underlying reasons that you will need to prayerfully search out, but often we just need to stir ourselves up and get going again. We need to do it purposely instead of waiting for a feeling to show up and motivate us to action again.

Gratitude helps me do that. When I recount all of my blessings, I am amazed at the goodness of God in my life. It makes me thankful, and that always stirs me up and makes life look brighter. Having great expectations also energizes and motivates me.

We don’t have to wait and see if something good happens in our lives; we can aggressively expect something good to happen. David indicated that if he failed to believe he would see the Lord’s goodness, it would affect him in a detrimental way. He said, [What, what would have become of me] had I not believed that I would see the Lord’s goodness… (Psalm 27:13 AMPC).

The third thing that energizes me is getting my mind off how I feel and on something I can do to be a blessing to someone else. When I do, it works every time. Before long, I find myself enthusiastic about life and excited to resume my service to the Lord.

Prayer Starter: Father, I want to live life to the fullest. I want to live with passion, zeal, and appreciation for every opportunity that You give me. Help me approach this day with enthusiasm and do everything as unto You. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Teens Open Heavens 31 October 2018 – Brokenness

Topic: Brokenness [Teens Open Heavens 31 October 2018]

Memorise: “I am feeble and sore broken; I have roared by reason of the disquietness of my heart. Psalm 38:8

Read: 1 Corinthians 9:27 (KJV)

Bible In One Year: Jeremiah 29-30, Titus 1

MESSAGE:

In spiritual terms, to be broken is to subdue the flesh in order to be more profitable to the Kingdom of God. Why do you need to be broken? You need to be broken in order to put the flesh where it belongs; subdued. Until you get to the point of brokenness, your body will operate in the body – soul – spirit order of priority, which means that the body will be in control of the spirit instead of the other way round.

Another reason for brokenness is that it helps you to lose grounds for God to occupy. That is, it creates more room for God. The more broken you are, the greater the space the Spirit can fill up with you. Brokenness also helps us to be true ambassadors of Christ – making us to represent Him as we should. Are you broken? To what extent are you allowing the flesh? From today, ask God to break you, and fill you with His fullness.

Key Point: If God breaks you, He will mould you to fit into His mould, but if you are not broken, you will maintain your old mould.

Hymn 7:

1. I am Thine 0 Lord, I have heard Thy voice,
And it told Thy love to me;
But I long to rise in the arms of faith
And be closer drawn to Thee.

Draw me nearer, nearer blessed Lord
To the cross where Thou hast died;
Draw me nearer, nearer, nearer blessed Lord,
To Thy precious, bleeding side.

2. Consecrate me now to Thy service, Lord,
By the pow’r of grace divine;
Let my soul look up with a steadfast hope,
And my will be lost in Thine.

3. Oh, the pure delight of a single hour
That before Thy throne I spend,
When I kneel in prayer, and with Thee, my God
I commune as friend with friend!

4. There are depths of love that I cannot know
Till I cross the narrow sea;
There are heights of joy that I may not reach
Till I rest in peace with Thee.

TREM Devotional 31 October 2018 – No Good Thing Will He Withhold From You

Topic: No Good Thing Will He Withhold From You [TREM Devotional 31 October 2018]

“Do everything you possibly can for those who need help. If your neighbour needs something you have, don’t say, “Come back tomorrow.” Give it to him immediately.” – Proverbs 3:27-28 ERV

One of the lies Satan succeeded in telling Eve was that God was withholding something “good” from her. He deceived her into thinking that God was preventing her from the best, and she clearly fell for it. It’s interesting that the enemy is still up to the same old tricks and a lot of believers are falling for it. He lies to you and makes you believe that God is withholding a miracle from you, your breakthrough. Meanwhile, the scriptures tell us that He has blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places. Our text above was an admonition to us mere mortals to withhold good from our brothers and sisters. Now if God holds us to this high standard, what makes you think that He will withhold good from you? Who has deceived you?

The Bible tells us that God has given to you all things that pertain to life and godliness. And so why should we turn around and think that God is withholding good from us. It is not His nature. God’s nature is love, which is expressed by giving. For God so loved the world, that He gave us His only begotten Son, …. the proof of His love for us, was that He gave us His Son. So why should you think for a second that God is withholding things from us, for any reason? No, God does not withhold from us, He is favourably disposed to doing us good. Settle it in your heart once and for all that He does not withhold good from you. If you’ve been believing God for a miracle, be rest assured that it will become a reality.

Dare to believe God, dare to take Him at His Word.

Handling Family Challenges (Part 4) By Pastor Faith Oyedepo

Handling Family Challenges (Part 4) By Pastor Faith Oyedepo

Topic: Handling Family Challenges (Part 4)

Dear Reader,

You are welcome to the concluding part of this series for the month. It is my prayer that by subscribing to the remedies prescribed to these common challenges in families, you will experience the sweetness ordained for your family!

However, in concluding this series, I will be teaching on the Challenge of Keeping Wrong Company. The Bible says: He that walketh with wise men shall be wise: but a companion of fools shall be destroyed (Proverbs 13:20). A man doesn’t have to be foolish himself to be destroyed; all he needs to do is walk with the foolish and soon, the folly of his friend would rub off on him. Walking with a foolish man is as bad as being foolish. It is clear from the above scripture that the company you keep either makes or mars you; it doesn’t leave you the same. A wise man once said, “You will remain what you are today in five years’ time, except for the books you read and the company you keep”.

The major cause of problems in some families today is wrong association. Family members keep wrong companies, receiving counsel from people that stir up trouble perpetually in their homes. I believe strongly in an adage that says, “Show me your friend, and I will show you who you are”. It has a scriptural antecedent. The Bible says: Can two walk together, except they be agreed? (Amos 3:3). Your friend is a reflection of you. A wrong association will affect you negatively. It will make you do things that you may ordinarily never do on your own. You must detach yourself from any child of Belial. Anyone that constantly provokes your spirit and gives you wrong counsel against your wife, husband or family’s well being, will destroy your family. The Bible says: Be not deceived: evil communications corrupt good manners (1 Corinthians 15:33). Evil association corrupts good manners! The story of Amnon and his evil friend Jonadab is a good example (2 Samuel 13:1-34). My husband believes that every wrong friend you keep is your enemy. Amnon paid for it with his life. After his death, Jonadab, the same “friend” who gave him wrong counsel was the one who announced his death.
How Then, Can You Disassociate from Wrong Company?

Agreement should be the basis for any association (Amos 3:3). Only agreeable people can relate profitably with one another. Also, separate yourself from wrong friends. Who is your wife’s friend? Who is your husband’s friend? Who are your children’s friends? You have no business associating with anyone that brings tension to your family. Stop that association before it stops you! Receive grace to dissociate yourself from evil company, in Jesus’ name!

Also Read: A Prudent Family Life (Part 1) By Pastor Faith Oyedepo

Remember Abraham had to separate from Lot before he could enter into the great things God had prepared for him. The Bible says: Is not the whole land before thee? separate thyself, I pray thee, from me: if thou wilt take the left hand, then I will go to the right; or if thou depart to the right hand, then I will go to the left (Genesis 13:9).

There is a need to be selective in your association. Select your friends in wisdom, as friendship is not by force but by choice. Even Jesus warns us to beware of our association (Matthew 10:17). No matter how long you have been married and how rough the journey has been, you can still lay hold on God’s treasure in your family and give God a chance to use it to show forth His glory this end-time. Every achievement in life is worked for. Nothing works by itself, just as no problem solves itself. For instance, a student who wants to pass his examinations but spends all night praying, instead of doing his assignments and studying, will definitely fail. Prayer does not actually take the place of studying; it only complements it. Similarly, your obedience to what is required of you is how you initiate your desired success in marriage.

To be too smart to follow God’s Word is to opt for a life of misery. Your home can be harmonious, peaceful, joyful, etc., if you do whatever God tells you to do from His Word. God has not changed, and He will not compromise His standard. If you don’t want crises and challenges in your family, do what He tells you to do. When God’s Word is not given its place of priority in the family, there are bound to be challenges. When a man disregards God’s Word, a time will come when he cries out for God’s intervention, God will simply fold His arms, unperturbed (Proverbs 1:28-30).

A family founded on the Word of God enjoys challenge-free home. Satan is rendered powerless, when a couple stands firmly on the Word of God and operates by its principles. Marriage is very exciting if Biblical injunctions are adhered to, because the knowledge of the truth is what puts a man on top.

Marriage was designed for pleasure. From the beginning, the Bible says: And the Lord God planted a garden eastward in Eden; and there he put the man whom he had formed (Genesis 2:8). A garden stands for pleasure, abundance and fulfilment. Marriage is a type of garden, planted by God Himself for your pleasure, abundance and fulfilment. However, this garden is not ordinary; the Word of God makes us understand that it is full of treasures, which are valued objects. These valued objects have one way or the other been lost to improper handling of challenges in the family. But these treasures of peace, joy, fulfilment and satisfaction can be restored back to your family, if only you can assume the responsibility of locating and handling the root cause of what destroyed them.

To adhere to all that have been discussed in this series, particularly as it relates to your family, you need grace. This grace is only available to you if you embrace God by accepting Jesus as your Lord and personal Saviour. Say this prayer to be saved: Dear Lord Jesus Christ, I come to You today. I am a sinner. Forgive me my sins and cleanse me with Your Blood. I accept You as my Lord and Saviour. Make me a child of God today. Thank You for delivering me from sin and satan to serve the living God and thank You for accepting me into Your Kingdom.

Congratulations! If you prayed this simple prayer of faith with me, you are now born again and a child of God. He loves you and will never leave you. Read your Bible daily, obey God’s Word and seek Christian fellowship (John 14:21).

With this, you are guaranteed all-round rest and peace in Jesus’ Name! Call or write to share your testimonies with me through [email protected], 07026385437 OR 08141320204.

MFM Daily Devotional 31 October 2018 – Failure Is Not Your Last Bus Stop

MFM Mountain Top Life Daily Devotional 31 October 2018 By Dr. D.K Olukoya – Failure Is Not Your Last Bus Stop

TOPIC: Failure Is Not Your Last Bus Stop (Mountain Of Fire and Miracle Ministries, MFM Daily Devotional 31 October 2018)

FIRE SCRIPTURE: Isaiah 46:10-11

MEMORY VERSE: “For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.” – Jeremiah 29:11

The MESSAGE:

The Lord has a wonderful plan for you and He had purposed great things for you in the past. Regardless of what you were before you met the Lord and what you might have done, including the sins you have committed since you were born, the plan of God for you is good. His plan and purpose for you is good irrespective of your failure and unfaithfulness in the past. What is important is your present status with the Lord and not the failures of the past. Jesus tells us in the parable of the prodigal son, how the son that had wasted his own share of his father’s inheritance was accepted back by his father when he repented and returned home. This parable is to teach us that our past has no effect on our future so far you have repented of your sins and returned to God. Have you failed before? You can still rise and enter into His fullness because no failure in the past needs to be your final bus stop.

Saul was a religious Jew, a Pharisee, circumcised on the eight day, a Hebrew of Hebrews, a persecutor of the church and blameless under the law (1 Timothy 1:12-17). His hands were red with the blood of the saints. He wounded, maimed and blinded many Christians. He was obviously an agent of the devil and was regarded as one fit for the lake of fire. In spite of his terrible past, there was still hope for him. His past did not disqualify him from becoming God’s son. He received a revelation of Christ, and the Lord Jesus Christ gave him a ministry. All his failures did not define his end.

Are you thinking or feeling you have failed God? Yes, but that failure is not your final bus stop. You can turn to Him today in repentance and He will receive you and work out His great purpose for you. What are you aiming at getting or achieving in life? I mean the desire of your heart. No matter the number of times you have failed, you can still get it. Beloved, arise today, jump out of the shadows of your past failures and cling unto the Holy Spirit through prayers.

MOTIVATIONAL QUOTE:
YOU LEARN MORE FROM TROUBLE THAN FROM YOUR TEACHERS AND BOOKS.

PROPHETIC WORD:
You shall not fail again, rise up from failure and march on.

PRAYER POINTS:

MORNING
1. Failures of my father’s, mother’s and in-law’s houses assigned to end my life, die, in the name of Jesus.
2. Apparent failures in my life assigned to become my ultimate failure in life, die, in Jesus’ name.
3. My past failures raising their ugly heads to close up my destiny, break, in the name of Jesus.

EVENING
4. Powers, demons, spirits behind failures in my life, die, in the name of Jesus.
5. Every curse of failure issued by any man or woman on my life, break by fire, in Jesus’ name.
6. Every covenant I have with failure, your end has come, break by fire, in the name of Jesus.
7. All destroyers dispatched to my career, business, office, gather yourself together, go back and destroy your senders, in Jesus’ name.

Our Daily Bread 31 October 2018 Devotional – Hope in the Darkness

Topic: Hope in the Darkness [Our Daily Bread 31 October 2018 Devotional]

Read: Jeremiah 31:16–26, Bible in a Year: Jeremiah 22–23; Titus 1

I will refresh the weary and satisfy the faint. Jeremiah 31:25

According to legend, Qu Yuan was a wise and patriotic Chinese government official who lived during the time known as the Warring States period (475–246 bc). It has been said that he tried repeatedly to warn his king about an impending threat that would destroy the country, but the king rejected his advice. Eventually, Qu Yuan was exiled. When he learned about the fall of his beloved country to the foe he had warned about, he ended his life.

Qu Yuan’s life resembles some aspects of the life of the prophet Jeremiah. He too served kings who scorned his warnings, and his country was ravaged. However, while Qu Yuan gave in to his despair, Jeremiah found genuine hope. Why the difference?

Jeremiah knew the Lord who offers the only true hope. “There is hope for your descendants,” God had assured His prophet. “Your children will return to their own land” (Jeremiah 31:17). Although Jerusalem was destroyed in 586 bc, it was later rebuilt (see Nehemiah 6:15).

At some point, we all find ourselves in situations that can cause us to despair. It could be a bad medical report, a sudden job loss, a shattered family. But when life knocks us down, we can still look up—for God is on the throne! He holds our days in His hands, and He holds us close to His heart.

Prayer: Lord, fill me up with hope and give me a tangible reminder today that things will turn out right in Your way, in Your time.

The world hopes for the best, but the Lord offers the best hope. John Wesley

INSIGHT:
God tells Jeremiah to “restrain your voice from weeping” (31:16). Hope shines through. Ephraim [Israel] and Judah will repent and be restored. In a rare respite from his grief, Jeremiah can say, “My sleep had been pleasant to me” (v. 26).

What causes your tears? Know that God sees and understands them.

Seeds of Destiny 31 October 2018 Devotional: Spiritual Garment and Eternity Consciousness

Topic: Spiritual Garment and Eternity Consciousness [Seeds of Destiny 31 October 2018 Devotional]

Scripture: And he shewed me Joshua the high priest standing before the angel of the Lord, and Satan standing at his right hand to resist him… Now Joshua was clothed with filthy garments, and stood before the angel. Zechariah 3:1-3

Thought For The Day: It is not the quality of the physical dress on your body but the purity of your spiritual garment that matters most in life.

Our anchor Scripture tells us about Joshua, the High Priest. He was a minister of God who was spiritually clothed in filthy garments before the angel of the Lord but appeared clothed in a dignifying attire of a high priest in the physical. So, there are people who are clothed in royal apparel in the physical like King Solomon but appear like vultures, wearing stinky, smelly garments stained with all manner of filth in the realm of the spirit.

Beloved, it is how we look in the spirit that matters most in life. The truth is: knowing and doing what matters most in life guarantees our escape from calamities both in time and in eternity.

So, in continuation of what matters most in life, today, we are looking at:
1. The Purity of Spiritual Garment: It is not the quality of the physical dress on your body but the purity of your spiritual garment that matters most in life.

2. Where You Are Going to Spend Eternity: It is not where you are going to spend your next holidays that matters most in life but where you are going to spend your eternity. Some people are so desperate to spend their holidays abroad; they are saving money for a trip to Europe, Dubai, etc., but they are not preparing for where they are going to spend their eternity. Where you are going to spend eternity is what matters most in life.

3. The Intensity of the Right Passion: It is not what you drive but what drives you that matters most in life. Your passion determines your portion in life and in eternity.

Beloved, if you do not want to end in regrets both in time and in eternity, reorder your life and let the things that matter most in life really matter to you.

Remember This: It is not the quality of the physical dress on your body but the purity of your spiritual garment that matters most in life.

Assignments:
1. Invest in your spiritual life; feed your spirit with the Word of God and do all you can to maintain the atmosphere of God’s Presence.
2. Live with the consciousness of eternity.

FOR FURTHER UNDERSTANDING, GET THIS MESSAGE: WHAT MATTERS MOST IN LIFE

Prayer: O Lord, I surrender all to You. Give me the grace to keep my spiritual garment holy, Lord, in Jesus’ Name.

DCLM Daily Manna 31 October 2018 – Evil Dividends Of Polygamy

Topic: Evil Dividends Of Polygamy [DCLM Daily Manna 31 October 2018 Daily Devotional by Pastor William Folorunso Kumuyi]

Text: Genesis 30:1-13 (KJV)

Key Verse: “And when Rachel saw that she bare Jacob no children, Rachel envied her sister; and said unto Jacob, Give me children, or else I die (Genesis 30:1).

MESSAGE:

Polygamy breeds envy, jealousy, resentfulness, covetousness, ill will, spleen and bitter hatred. Little wonder then that God, in His infinite wisdom, ordained one man, one wife for humanity. That the two young ladies, Leah and Rachael, were sisters did not prevent them from experiencing the unpalatable consequence of polygamy.

In today’s text, Rachel, green with envy, developed a suicidal tendency. However, Jacob reproved his wife for the graceless statement she made. Rachel failed to know that it is only God that can make barren women mothers of children.

From her desperation to have children, she gave Bilhah, her handmaid as wife to Jacob so that she could adopt the children. The error of envy in this decision of hers was that Leah’s children should normally be closer to her than the children of Bilhar, a slave lady. Rachel further demonstrated her envy by christening the two children by her handmaid names that connoted rivalry and strife. Leah in her rivalry later persuaded her husband to marry Zilpah, her own handmaid.

This shows a clear demonstration of the evil, mischief and psychological anguish in polygamy. Jacob might be justified because in his era, there was no Bible to read nor pastor to preach on the danger of polygamy. Do believers of today have any excuse to go into polygamy? No. There is no problem in a Christian marriage that God, in His unlimited power, cannot solve. With faith in God, problems such as barrenness, sickness, poverty, misunderstanding and so on can be fixed and are therefore no excuses for disobeying His word. Believers are to ensure that they hold on to the word of God and preach against polygamy.

Thought For The Day: Polygamy breeds envy, hatred, bitterness, hypertension and death.
