Our friendship not only benefits us, it also benefits those around us. When people come to us with needs or concerns, we may be able to offer some help, or we may not be able to meet their needs at all.

Even if we do not have what people really need, God does. When we are friends with God, we can say to people, “I don’t have what you need, but I know Someone who does. I’ll ask my friend! I will intercede before God for you.”

We know that God has the power to intervene in people’s circumstances, to help their children stop using drugs, to bring financial breakthroughs, to work medical miracles or to reconcile marriages.

The more intimately we know God, the more confident we are in His willingness and ability to help people. When they come to us, we can go to Him and know He will come through for them.

We can actually ask God to do us a favor and help someone we love even when we know that they don’t deserve it. We can pray with compassion out of a heart of love—and God hears and answers.

God loves you, and He loves the sound of your voice coming to Him in prayer and fellowship. Go to Him often not only for your needs, but also for the needs of others.

Prayer Starter: O, Lord, thank You for always hearing my cries for help. Today, I ask for Your supernatural help and intervention for the needs in my life. I also lift up the needs of my friends and family and pray for peace, provision, healing, wisdom and direction. Thank You for Your amazing love and for answering our cries for help. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Dear Reader,

I shall conclude this series on a prudent family life by sharing with you on: How to make the Most of Family Time.

The law of creation forbids things happening by themselves; they must be made to happen. God’s Word says. God created the heaven and the earth (Genesis 1:1). Thus saith the Lord, The heaven is my throne, and the earth is my footstool… (Isaiah 66:1).

The heaven, which is God’s throne, and the earth, His footstool, were created by Him in the beginning. He had to first create (make to be) the heaven and the earth before He could dwell therein. The same way, you can make your home a heaven here on earth. However, the home and marriage you will enjoy must, of a necessity, be created by you. Your marriage is what you make it to be. Stop waiting for your home to adjust itself, rather adjust it with the Word of God.

I will like you to know that family success is possible, but it does not happen by chance. You must programme for it, if you desire it. Nothing works until you work it! That is why the Scripture says: …Every house is builded by a man … (Hebrews 3:4). You cannot build a house by merely wishing it. The same way, you cannot have an exciting home except you work it out.

Home and family life are exciting experiences; they are not necessary evils. God delights in them. So, they are meant to be the most exciting parts of your life as a child of God. But, you must understand that excitement or happiness doesn’t just happen because you are a Christian. No! You have to programme yourself for it! That is, you make it happen!

Spending quality time together as a family is one major thing lacking in today’s families. Laughter is far from them. Smiling is a problem for them! They never see the need to express joy and nothing is worth celebrating. But I tell you, this year will be different for you! You shall be distinguished! Every dullness and sorrow in your family will be turned into joy in Jesus’ Name.

You can create quality time with your family, so that you can share things that make for joy together. My husband, in spite of his busy schedule, finds time to play with His children. He makes humorous statements to the delight of his children. Those who know him are quite aware that he is a jolly person to be with. He is always having a joke to defuse tension, anytime he sees people looking sad.

Your home shouldn’t be a prison yard. A colourful home is not made by murmuring and complaining. Life at home can really be exciting just by adding a little laughter, praise, and thanksgiving, both to God and members of your family. Share things together. As much as possible, you must find time to have one major meal together, and you know eating together could be fun and a time of joy to remember.

To have a colourful home you need to invite Jesus into your life. If you are not yet born again and you desire to do so right now, please pray this prayer with faith in your heart: Dear Lord Jesus Christ, I come to You today. I am a sinner. Forgive me my sins and cleanse me with Your Blood. I accept You as my Lord and personal Saviour. Make me a child of God today. Thank You for delivering me from sin and satan to serve the living God and thank You for accepting me into Your Kingdom.

Congratulations! If you prayed this simple prayer of faith with me, you are now born again and a child of God. He loves you and will never leave you. Read your Bible daily, obey God’s Word and seek Christian fellowship (John 14:21).

The Israelites labored for 430 years but in one night, they got their harvest. The Bible is so simple that if you are not careful, Satan might deceive you.

2 Corinthians 11:3 (KJV) But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtilty, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ.

Do not be deceived by the devil because of the simplicity that is in Christ. When it has to do with vengeance, do not be religious about it because anytime you try to question prayers done against evil doers, you may end up being the first victim. If you believe in the philosophy that, those who do evil should be forgiven, you cannot survive in this wicked world.

There are things you pray for and there are things you pray against. You pray against an armed robber; you do not pray for the armed robber. What glory will it bring to God if you are killed by armed robbers as a Christian? Before they kill you, let the person die. Our God is a 2-sided God; he kills and makes alive.

1 Samuel 2:6 (KJV) The LORD killeth, and maketh alive: he bringeth down to the grave, and bringeth up.

Vengeance means retaliation on behalf of someone. It is an intense and extreme punishment against a wrong. It is only what you desire against your enemies that God will do for you. It is your desires that God answers.

Psalms 92:11 (KJV) Mine eye also shall see my desire on mine enemies, and mine ears shall hear my desire of the wicked that rise up against me.

Christians do not need to carry gun but their mouth. It is your tongue that carries the power. It is a powerful force for the execution of vengeance. The anger of God is kindled against the wicked everyday so he is waiting for us to desire something for Him to do to those that trouble us.

Psalms 7:11 (KJV) God judgeth the righteous, and God is angry with the wicked every day.

God is waiting for you to condemn so that he can act on your behalf.

Isaiah 54:17 (KJV) No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper; and every tongue that shall rise against thee in judgment thou shalt condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD, and their righteousness is of me, saith the LORD.

God has a blessing part and a cursing part. Do not allow evil to prevail. Engage the cursing part of God to avert evil from your life. There is no mercy in the camp of Satan, therefore do not show mercy on him but judgment and vengeance.

MEMORY VERSE: “Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord:” – Hebrews 12:14

The MESSAGE:

Holiness is a requirement to inherit the kingdom of God. As believers, we must be holy because He that called us is holy. It is a pain in the heart of God that many Christians do not care about holiness anymore. Worse still are the hypocrites who act as if they are holy but are not. To be holy means to be righteous in Christ Jesus. It also means abstaining from sins and living your life absolutely for God and God alone.

The Holy One of Israel is God. He is so powerful and so majestic that He alone deserves to be held in awe. In essence, to be holy means being set apart for God. In the Old Testament, persons such as priests were set apart to serve as mediators at the altar where sinful humanity met a holy God. When God’s people are consecrated to Him, they are called “Holy”. Today, so many Christians are good at acting religious but very few are living a life of holiness. Many Christians are full of activities, very active in the church to an extent that they are nominated for recognition as the best worker, but some of these workers are just playing scripts, they are not recognised in the kingdom of God. They put up with excellent outward appearances that mask hearts that are filled with wickedness, and attitudes that are hypocritical in the church. But if we succeed in hiding our real self and deceive everyone else, we cannot deceive God. Beloved, religious activities without holiness amount to just mere physical exercise, a fruitless effort that will not yield any reward from God. No matter how religious a person is, if the heart embraces bitterness, anger, pride, deceit, envy, unforgiving spirit, lies and lust, such person cannot see or enter the kingdom of God.

This question now comes to you, “Where do you stand in this matter of holiness?” Is your outside very clean while your inside is dirty? Is your inside so filthy and full of unholy acts? It is time to be ready for God. Do you think everyday about Jesus’ coming? It will be a disaster to pass through the sufferings and oppressions of this world and end up in hell. Arise now and begin to ask God for mercy, tomorrow may be too late. Determine to live a holy life. God bless you

Topic: The Holy Spirit Makes You Powerful [TREM Devotional 29 October 2018]

“And Jesus returned in the power of the Spirit into Galilee, and there went out a fame of Him through all the region round about”. Luke 4:14

When Jesus Christ came out from the wilderness after His temptation by the devil, having been there for forty days and forty nights, He returned in the power of the Spirit. In His usual manner, He went into the temple. They gave Him the scriptures to read and He carefully opened the passage that talks about Him in the book of Isaiah 61: “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised. To preach the acceptable year of the Lord”(Luke 4:18-19) And the Bible says He closed the book.

As soon as Jesus found Himself by the Holy Ghost in the book, He closed the book. And since then He became the book. Anywhere He goes, He manifests the book. That is what the Holy Spirit does for you. He helps you to discover who you are. When you find yourself in the bible, you are no more looking for the book you will become a walking bible.

John 1:14: “And the Word was made flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth”. When you let, the Holy Spirit help you to discover yourself, you become a danger to the devil. Beloved, you are the authorized agent of the kingdom of God. You have divine credentials. You are the chosen one. God says I didn’t choose the other person. I chose you. You have been chosen because you are special to Him. 1 Peter 2:9 says: “But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light”

Key Verse: “And the men took of their victuals, and asked not counsel at the mouth of the LORD“ (Joshua 9:14).

MESSAGE:

People react to things differently. As many people come to Jesus Christ to accept His lordship and offer of salvation when they experience or hear of the supernatural work of God, some others come with open confrontation, bitter hatred and avowed persecution. The same thing happened when the nations in Canaan heard about the exploits and victories of the Israelites.

The people of Gibeon and three other towns in the central highlands, came up with a different approach to defend themselves. They came to sue for peace but through trickery and deception. Some people say if Jacob had not lied to his father, Isaac, he would have missed his father’s blessing. They err. God had promised to bless him and to multiply his seed. He and his mother erroneously thought they could help God to carry out the promise.

Similarly, many believers might wonder why Joshua, that great man of God and other elders of Israel were so easily deceived by this heathen nation of Gibeon. Before collecting victuals from the Gibeonites, they “asked not counsel at the mouth of the LORD”. This was a great mistake.

Flattery and gifts corrupt and blindfold even people of God when the counsel of the Lord is not sought. A second look at Joshua’s pardon for the Gibeonites shows vividly the grace and mercy of God for sinners who come in total repentance. The Gibeonites’ agreement to serve the Israelites signifies their strong decision and determination to forsake their idolatry and sinful practices and accept the lordship of the God of Israel. The only way sinners can escape the judgment of God is through repentance, not by lies or deception.

Thought For The Day: There is no short cut to salvation.

Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is. And every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, even as he is pure. – 1 John 3:2-3

Hopelessness. As this age draws to a close, that’s a feeling that’s going to be more and more common among the people of this world. But, you know, it’s something we as believers never have to feel! Because no matter how much pressure comes on the earth, no matter how dark the natural circumstances around us are, we know that we have hope in the soon return of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Sometimes we forget that. We get our attention focused so intently on the natural things of this life that we lose that hope and get caught up in the hopelessness around us. But we don’t have to let that happen.

A friend of mine once met a born-again Arab woman in the Middle East who was living proof of that. The woman was caught in a life most of us would consider almost unbearable. She was living in a war zone that had been torn up by violence. She faced the danger of bombs and bullets every day.

Now that Arab woman had no hope in the natural. Her country was being destroyed around her. She had to go to Israel to work and get money for her family because there were no jobs where she was, no way to make money. Things around her seemed to be going from bad to worse, but she told my friend she had hope because she knew that Jesus was coming back for her. And that hope kept her going.

So, if you’re feeling hopeless, get your eyes off this world and get them on the soon return of Jesus. Not only will that raise your spirits, the Bible says it will purify you. It will cause you to live uprightly, to separate you from the sin and failure of the world around you. It will lift you into the joy and victory of God.

Think about this. When this old world comes to an end, you and I will just be getting started. We’ll be stepping into the most glorious life we’ve ever known. The people of the world may look back wistfully and wish for better days gone by. But for you and me, the best is yet to come. So we can shout hallelujah in the midst of trouble and say with the Apostle John, “Even so, come, Lord Jesus.” Come quickly!

John 16:33 “These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.“

Text: John 16:33

Jesus said we would have tribulation. He did not say that He was the one bringing the tribulation or what the tribulation would be, but He said it would come. Then He made the amazing statement that in the midst of tribulation we were to be of good cheer.

Tribulations exist because there is a battle between the kingdom of God and the kingdom of the devil. When we operate in faith, God is able to grant us such victory that we are actually better off because of the battle. It’s just like when a army goes to war. If they win, they gain spoils. But if they embrace their enemy because of the spoils they were expecting to receive, they will be killed instead of blessed. First, you have to fight and win the war and then, and only then, will the spoils be available. The enemy doesn’t come to be a blessing, but a blessing can be obtained from the enemy if we are victorious.

Likewise, tribulations and adversities are not blessings from God. They are attacks from the enemy intended to steal the Word of God out of our lives. No man should say that the temptation came from God, for God is not the one who tempts any man (Jas. 1:13).

If problems were what perfected us, then most Christians would have been perfected long ago and those who experienced the greatest problems would be the greatest Christians. However, that’s not the way it is. God’s Word is given to us to make us perfect, and thoroughly furnished unto every good work (2 Tim. 3:17). God’s Word does not need to be supplemented with problems to accomplish its work.

When we examine the problems that confront us in our world today, we find that every one of them resolves into a problem of “inner space,” a problem of the dark side of the human spirit. From thousands of letters we receive, it is evident that a large proportion of the population is facing deep personal problems. They vary from person to person, but they do exist, and they are all problems of “inner space.”

Yes, we are the people who have been conquering outer space, but are in danger of losing the battle of the spirit. But there is a solution-for millions it has already been reached-and that solution is in Jesus Christ. He said, “My peace”-my liberty, my freedom-“I give unto you” (John 14:27).

Today if we will turn the searchlight of truth on the dark side of our human spirits and let Jesus Christ become the Master Control of our lives, a new day will dawn for us. Submit the “inner space” of your life to Him.

Prayer for the day: How often I hurt deep down inside me, Lord, but the knowledge of Your love and compassion brings me hope and peace.

Would they have enough if all the fish in the sea were caught for them? Numbers 11:22

The years of weariness caused by chronic pain and frustrations with my limited mobility had finally caught up with me. In my discontent, I became demanding and ungrateful. I began complaining about my husband’s caregiving skills. I griped about the way he cleaned the house. Even though he’s the best cook I know, I fussed about the lack of variety in our meals. When he finally shared that my grumbling hurt his feelings, I was resentful. He had no idea what I was going through. Eventually, God helped me see my wrongs, and I asked my husband and the Lord for forgiveness.

Longing for different circumstances can lead to complaining, and even a form of relationship damaging self-centeredness. The Israelites were familiar with this dilemma. It seems they were never satisfied and always griping about God’s provision (Exodus 17:1–3). Even though the Lord cared for His people in the wilderness by sending them “bread from heaven” (16:4), they began craving other food (Numbers 11:4). Instead of rejoicing over the daily miracles of God’s faithful and loving care, the Israelites wanted something more, something better, something different, or even something they used to have (vv. 4–6). They took out their frustrations on Moses (vv. 10–14).

Trusting God’s goodness and faithfulness can help us get a good grip on gratitude. Today we can thank Him for the countless ways He cares for us.

INSIGHT:
When we read about the anger of the Lord (Numbers 11:1, 10), it’s important to remember that His anger is not like our own. We’re inclined to lash out in fear, irritability, or a desire to get even. God’s anger is a consuming fire of love that burns in the conscience and results in consequences for those who turn their back on Him. What could give us more reason for gratitude than to know that “the Lord is gracious and compassionate, slow to anger and rich in love”? (Psalm 145:8).
