Billy Graham Devotional 24 October 2018 – Prejudice is Weakness

Topic: Prejudice Is Weakness [Billy Graham Devotional 24 October 2018 – Prejudice is Weakness]

Judge not, that ye be not judged.— Matthew 7:1

The word prejudice means “prejudging” or “making an estimate of others without knowing the facts.” Prejudice is a mark of weakness, not of strength. Prejudice is measured by computing the distance between our own biased opinions and the real truth. If we would all be perfectly honest before God, there would be no prejudice.

Prayer for the day: You love each one of us with a love that breaks through all prejudicial barriers, Father. Forgive me for the times I judge others. Purify my heart, that I may be used to draw people together into the bond of Christ’s unifying love.

Netflix Series ‘Big Mouth’ Promotes Abortion to Teens

Netflix Series ‘Big Mouth’ Promotes Abortion to Teens

The raunchy animated Netflix series Big Mouth always has pushed the envelope, but in its newest season it crosses into new territory by promoting abortion in an episode appropriately titled, “Planned Parenthood.”

“The entire episode was devoted to convincing twelve and thirteen-year-old students on the merits of Planned Parenthood,” Karen Townsend of Newsbusters wrote.

The Netflix original series, rated TV-MA, follows a group of tweens and teens going through puberty and is filled with coarse language and sex jokes.

The Planned Parenthood episode includes a classroom scene where a boy calls Planned Parenthood an “abortion factory” but a girl tells him, “Jay, you don’t know what you’re talking about. You’ve never even been to a Planned Parenthood,” according to LifeSiteNews. Jay says his father is a lawyer who dropped off his receptionists at the clinic.

In another scene, according to Newsbusters, a mother daydreams “about her younger days” and how she had a one-night stand, learned she was pregnant, and then went to Planned Parenthood for an abortion.

In yet another scene, Jay is told by a girl that “abortions make up only a tiny percentage of what” Planned Parenthood does.

Planned Parenthood is the nation’s largest abortion provider.

Common Sense Media rates Big Mouth as appropriate for ages 16 and up, although plenty of…

Your Success Will Only Come From the Lord

(Screenshot: Facebook/The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary)Noe Garcia, senior pastor of North Phoenix Baptist Church of Phoenix, Arizona, speaking at the Oct. 18, 2018 chapel service at The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary.

The former pastor for the recently deceased Senator John McCain told students at The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky that their success will only come from God.

Noe Garcia, senior pastor of North Phoenix Baptist Church in Phoenix, Arizona, which was Sen. McCain’s home church, preached at an Oct. 18 chapel service.

During his remarks, Garcia argued that when the seminarians graduate and go into ministry, they should not look for success in worldly matters.

“Your success will not come from the degrees hanging on your wall,” said Garcia. “Your success will not come from who you know. Your success will not come from your bank account.”

“Your success will not come from your mentors. Your success will not come…

The Hills Church Welcomes Patrick Garcia as Lead Pastor Two Months after Controversial Firing

The Hills Church Welcomes Patrick Garcia as Lead Pastor Two Months after Controversial Firing

The Hills Church revealed on Sunday that Patrick Garcia would be their new lead pastor, despite his controversial firing from the Crossroads Christian Church in Indiana two months ago.

The Hills Church, which according to The Christian Post, was created by former Crossroads leaders and members, announced Garcia’s arrival as he walked out onto the church stage to a standing ovation.

“Thank you so much. It is such an honor to be here,” Garcia said as he walked to center stage.

“It is an honor to be a part of this family. And it doesn’t go without saying that we stand on the shoulders of so many of you including Rick and Dave and Darryl who took steps of faith early on to start this thing and so we’ve got to give credit where credit is due. And so thank you for stepping out in faith guys,” Garcia, 31, said.

In August, Garcia was fired from the Crossroads Christian Church after elders accused him of being inexperienced and power-hungry and wanting “complete control.”

According to The Christian Post, Garcia told them in an interview on Monday, that he had philosophical differences with the elders about leadership and purpose, noting, “When you get down to the heart of it that’s what it was.”

Garcia continued, “Am I an inexperienced leader? To a degree. Yeah. I mean I’m 31 years old. I was working with guys on the Crossroads…

Pastor Ryan Guard Says He Was Fired From Willow Creek’s High School Ministry Due to Low Attendance

(Screenshot: Facebook)Former director of Willow Creek Community Church’s high school ministry, Pastor Ryan Guard.

Pastor Ryan Guard, former director of Willow Creek Community Church’s high school ministry, Student Impact, has said that the real reason he left the ministry last year is because he was fired due to low attendance, not because he wasn’t “gifted enough as a leader” as stated in an earlier narrative.

Guard, who is now lead pastor at Prodigal Church, made the revelation in a series of tweets Monday in which he suggested his former boss at the South Barrington, Illinois, church, Scott Rubin, was “obsessed with numerical growth.”

“A year ago we announced I was leaving Willow Creek to explore new opportunities. The whole truth is that they fired me because attendance was down. Youth pastors: I’m done playing games, and you should be too. If your boss is obsessed with numerical growth — call it out and QUIT,” Guard advised.

“They offered me a severance, but forced me to sign a non-disclosure. Well, come and get it. We shared a half-truth to protect their image, but that ship sailed and sank, and I’m done lying for you. I love the Student Impact students, staff and volunteers, and they deserve better,” he continued.

“I can understand why some people stay silent,…

Ray Comfort Documents Celebrity Suicides in ‘The Final Curtain’ Book on Depression

Expand | Collapse
(Photo: Facebook/Ray Comfort)Christian evangelist and author, Ray Comfort.

New Zealand-born evangelist and best-selling author Ray Comfort, who’s best known for his street evangelism, has released a new two-part book to help Christians gain a biblical to help those in despair.

Comfort is hoping to aid readers in addressing chronic depression and suicidal thoughts in his new book, The Final Curtain: Fame, Fortune, and Futile Lives. The book aims to explain why wealthy and famous people live with debilitating depression that sometimes leads to suicide.

“Suicide rarely makes national news, unless it is a celebrity who takes his or her life. Then it becomes international news — because it’s hard to reconcile the thought that someone who is rich and famous would take their own life,” Comfort told The Christian Post in a recent interview.

“Experts are also mystified as to why so many are becoming depressed. They have no idea of the cause, neither do they know the cure. I’m not an expert, [but] I know the reason why the World Health Organization says that 350 million people are depressed. There’s a common sense explanation for this, and it’s not because they have a mental disease. I expand what the Scriptures say, in this book — using celebrities as a…

Former LGBTQ Individuals March on LA to Share How Jesus’ Love Changed Their Lives

Former LGBTQ Individuals March on LA to Share How Jesus’ Love Changed Their Lives

A group of people, who used to identify as LGBTQ+, are preparing to take to the Los Angeles streets to declare the transformative power of Jesus’ love.

On November 4, the group will host a Freedom March that, according to CBN News, will feature worship, praise, and testimonials from former homosexual, bisexual, and transgender individuals.

The group hosted their first march in May of this year in Washington D.C.

At the D.C. march, the group welcomed two survivors of the Pulse nightclub shooting, who shared testimonies of how they left their LGBT lifestyles behind after the attack.

“Going through old pictures of the night of Pulse, I remember my struggles of perversion, heavy drinking to drown out everything and having promiscuous sex that led to HIV,” Luis Ruiz told CBN News

“It wasn’t a gay to straight thing. It was a lost to a saved thing. Someone encountered me and told me how much God would change me if I stopped doing it on my own strength. If I fall in love with Christ, he would do everything else,” he continued.

The founder and CEO of the Freedom March, Jeffrey McCall, who was a former prostitute who lived as a transwoman named Scarlet, told CBN News that he wants to create a space where former LGBTQ+ people can be heard.  The outlet said, McCall “wants the world to know that you can change your lifestyle, no matter who you…

Greg Laurie on Reaching America’s Next Generation

(Screenshot: Facebook/Pure Flix)Pastor Greg Laurie in an interview published on Facebook on October 14, 2018.

Greg Laurie has become one of the most well-known preachers in America. He’s the founder of Harvest Crusade and Harvest America and the pastor of Harvest Christian Fellowship in Riverside, California, but the well-known faith leader wasn’t always a believer. In fact, his early years were characterized by a lack of faith, drugs and generally moving in the “wrong direction.”

Laurie, author of the new book, Jesus Revolution: How God Transformed an Unlikely Generation and How He Can Do It Again Today, recently appeared on PureFlix.com’s “Pure Talk” to reveal his spiritual journey — and his quest to reach youths with the Gospel.

“I was a 17-year-old kid. I was using drugs every single day. I was going in the wrong direction in my life,” he said, noting that he stumbled upon a Bible study one day on the lawn of his high school, and it changed everything. “I sat down close enough to eavesdrop on what was being said.”

That’s when Laurie heard someone proclaim a truth that stuck with him: “Jesus said, ‘You’re for me, or against me.'” The statement struck him and he wondered, “Am I against Jesus?” He was so…

Open Heaven 24 October 2018 – A Microwave Christian?

Open Heaven 24 October 2018 Wednesday Daily Devotional by Pastor E A Adeboye – A Microwave Christian?

Topic: A Microwave Christian? (Open Heaven 24 October 2018)

Memorise: “But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing.”- James 1:4

Read: John 11:18-26 (KJV)

18 Now Bethany was nigh unto Jerusalem, about fifteen furlongs off:

19 And many of the Jews came to Martha and Mary, to comfort them concerning their brother.

20 Then Martha, as soon as she heard that Jesus was coming, went and met him: but Mary sat still in the house.

21 Then said Martha unto Jesus, Lord, if thou hadst been here, my brother had not died.

22 But I know, that even now, whatsoever thou wilt ask of God, God will give it thee.

23 Jesus saith unto her, Thy brother shall rise again.

24 Martha saith unto him, I know that he shall rise again in the resurrection at the last day.

25 Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live:

26 And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. Believest thou this?

Bible in One Year: Jeremiah 18-20, Luke 10:17-37

Open Heaven 24 October 2018 Wednesday MESSAGE:

Impatience is the younger sister of doubt because when someone is impatient, the fellow may not be able to operate under the divine time-table. Impatience can cause a person to doubt the integrity of the Ever Faithful God. The devil uses impatience as a tool to sow doubt in the minds of believers, so much so that some even begin to doubt the infallible word of God. For this reason, James 1:4 says:

“But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing.”

The blessings attached to being patient are many. For example, in our memory verse, the Holy Spirit reveals that a patient fellow will lack nothing good. This may sound foolish to the carnal mind, but it is the truth of God’s word. The carnal mind is tuned to believe that by being impatient, more can be achieved and more can be amassed, but this is a lie of the devil.

In today’s Bible reading, impatience almost destroyed the faith of Mary and Martha. As a matter of fact, they indirectly indicted Jesus of their brother’s death because He came to them at a point they considered to be too late, after He had received their message notifying Him of Lazarus’ sickness. John 11:21 says:

“Then said Martha unto Jesus, Lord, if thou hadst been here, my brother had not died.”

What an indictment! By this comment, they doubted the extent to which Jesus actually loved their family. This probably accounts for why Jesus wept in John 11:35, after Mary repeated the same accusation (John 11:32). It is dangerous to be a “microwave Christian” who always expects things to happen when you feel they must happen. A microwave Christian is like an infant who reacts to and cries for everything that causes discomfort. The Holy Spirit describes the state of such Christians in 1 Corinthians 3:1-2. Some brethren feel offended and therefore decide to leave a church when the promotion they believe they are due for is not forthcoming from the church authorities. Some others feel victimized when they are transferred from their station of comfort, even resorting to blackmail in some cases. Some even give God an ultimatum on when a miracle must “drop”, or else they won’t serve Him anymore. All these examples may sound unbelievable, but they are true life experiences. Beloved, it is time to grow up from the stage of infancy. God expects you to become not a meat eater but a bone cracker. May the Lord cause you to grow in Jesus’ Name.

Open Heaven 24 October 2018 Wednesday Prayer Point:

Father, please help me to grow in patience and keep me standing for You till the very end in Jesus’ Name.

1. I need Thee every hour, most gracious Lord;
No tender voice like Thine can peace afford.

Chorus:
I need Thee, oh, I need Thee;
Every hour I need Thee;
Oh, bless me now, my Savior,
I come to Thee.

2. I need Thee every hour, stay Thou nearby;
Temptations lose their pow’r when Thou art nigh.

3. I need Thee every hour, in joy or pain;
Come quickly and abide, or life is vain.

4. I need Thee every hour; teach me Thy will;
And Thy rich promises in me fulfill.

5. I need Thee every hour, most Holy One;
Oh, make me Thine indeed, Thou blessed Son.
