Despite Gosnell Ranking Top Ten in Box-Office, Theaters Drop the Film

Movie theaters are reportedly dropping “Gosnell,” the film that details the trial of abortion doctor Kermit Gosnell.

“Gosnell: The Trial of America’s Biggest Serial Killer” opened in theaters Oct. 14, but nearly 200 theaters have since pulled the film and given no explanation.

“I can tell you from my experience in 15 years of releasing movies independently, we’re in uncharted territories,” the film’s marketing director, John Sullivan, told Daily Wire.

“It is an impacted fall, no doubt about it, but the fact that we’ve been dropped from theaters where the movie is the number 6 or number 9 movie is just something you don’t see. It’s hard not to believe it isn’t about the content of the movie.”

The film tells the story of Gosnell, a Philadelphia abortion doctor who was convicted on three counts of first-degree murder in 2013.

The movie made it into the top 10 at the box office last week and earned about $1.2 million.

But Sullivan said many theaters are even telling moviegoers that the film was sold out when it was not.

“One report out of Nashville had people being told the movie sold out simply because they didn’t have the staff to cover the theater, and they chose our [movie] to do that to. Why? Too many things have stacked up and it just doesn’t smell right.”

According to The Christian Post, some moviegoers said they were…

Man behind The Message, Eugene Peterson dies aged 85

Author Winn Collier first wrote the news on facebook

He wrote on twitter: “My dear friend and pastor Eugene Peterson has died this morning. The lantern is out, but the joy he carried with him to his final breaths endures. Eugene is now with the Triune God he has loved his entire life. Memory eternal.”

Eugene Peterson had recently gone into a hospice after what his son Eric said was a “dramatic turn in his health caused by an infection”.

He was being treated for pneumonia and experienced heart failure and dementia, with his care becoming primarily palliative.

He is most well-known for writing his paraphrase of the Bible, aimed for it to be simpler to read, although it received criticism from many for missing key truths or simplifying themes too much.

Praise has come in on twitter, saying he made the Bible accessible.

Biblical Scholar Eugene Peterson Dies at 85

Biblical Scholar Eugene Peterson Dies at 85

American author, biblical scholar and pastor Eugene Peterson died Monday, October 22, at 85 years old.

About one week ago it was announced that Peterson was admitted into hospice care due to his declining health. The Message writer’s son, Eric, made an announcement via email to the family’s friends and loved ones to inform them of the move.

In the email, Eric explained that Peterson was admitted into the hospital for his declining health which “took a sudden and dramatic turn” in the wrong direction caused by an infection. Peterson was suffering from heart failure and dementia and according to his son, both were “advanced and progressing.”

Peterson was a well-respected member of the Presbyterian Church, biblical scholar and author of over 30 books. Relevant Magazine even called Peterson “one of the most recognized Bible scholars in America.”

The pastor was most famously known for the writing of his contemporary translation of the Bible, The Message.

Peterson is also known for founding Maryland’s Christ Our King Presbyterian Church where he was the pastor for nearly 30 years before he retired in 1991.

Peterson was born in Washington state but grew up in Montana where he attended a Pentecostal church. The pastor attended university at Seattle Pacific University where he received a B.A. in philosophy. He went on to get an S.T.B. from NY Theological Seminary before…

Charity calls on churches to be on the lookout for domestic abuse

It comes as a group of MPs have said survivors of domestic abuse deserve better protection.

The Home Affairs Select Committee’s report suggests councils should fund more refuge spaces. They estimate 200 women and children are turned away from emergency refuges in England every day, due to a lack of bed spaces.

Andrew Caplen is from Restored Relationships – a Christian alliance helping churches combat domestic violence.

Speaking about the need for churches to be on the lookout, Caplen told Premier: “Churches should be aware that this happens – it might be happening on your doorstep, it may even be happening within your churches.

“And secondly the churches need to actually know where to refer when they see these instances. You need to know, and you need to be aware and you need to be able to know how to deal with it when you see it.”

The Parliamentary report also states serial stalkers and domestic abusers should be placed on a new register and monitored.

Reforms to prevent benefit payments being controlled by abusers to give victims the economic independence to escape is another suggestion.

Under the proposals, individuals on the register would be managed through multi-agency public protection arrangements (Mappa).

This is the system used by police, probation and prison services to manage the risks posed by violent and sexual offenders living in the community.

Trump May Reverse Obama’s Decision and Define Gender by Biology, Not Choice

Trump May Reverse Obama’s Decision and Define Gender by Biology, Not Choice

The Trump administration may narrow the federal definition of gender to involve only a person’s biology, thus reversing an action taken by the Obama administration, according to a leaked memo reported in The New York Times.

The memo circulated within the Department of Health and Human Services says federal departments need a standard “biological” definition of gender that “is clear, grounded in science, objective and administrable.” Under the proposed change – which would affect Title IX — gender would be defined as what a person is at birth, and not what he/she decides later in life.

Title IX is a 1972 law that prevents discrimination “under any education program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance.”

“Sex means a person’s status as male or female based on immutable biological traits identifiable by or before birth,” the memo states. “The sex listed on a person’s birth certificate, as originally issued, shall constitute definitive proof of a person’s sex unless rebutted by reliable genetic evidence”

If adopted, the proposed rule would have a major impact on the transgender debate.

The Times noted that a series “of decisions by the Obama administration loosened the legal concept of gender in federal programs” – including in education and healthcare – to recognize gender “largely as an individual’s…

2. Deuteronomy 30:19-20: I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live: That thou mayest love the Lord thy God, and that thou mayest obey his voice, and that thou mayest cleave unto him: for he is thy life, and the length of thy days: that thou mayest dwell in the land which the Lord sware unto thy fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give them.

3. Exodus 15:26: If thou wilt diligently hearken to the voice of the Lord thy God, and wilt do that which is right in his sight, and wilt give ear to his commandments, and keep all his statutes, I will put none of these diseases upon thee, which I have brought upon the Egyptians: for I am the Lord that healeth thee.

Because he hath set his love upon me, therefore will I deliver him: I will set him on high, because he hath known my name. He shall call upon me, and I will answer him: I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and honour him. With long life will I satisfy him, and show him my salvation.

7. Psalm 103:1-5: Bless the Lord, O my soul: and all that is within me, bless his holy name. 8. Psalm 107:17, 19-21: Fools because of their transgression, and because of their iniquities, are afflicted. Then they cry unto the Lord in their trouble, and he saveth them out of their distresses. He sent his word, and healed them, and delivered them from their destructions. Oh that men would praise the Lord for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men!

9. Psalm 118:17: I shall not die, but live, and declare the works of the Lord.

10. Proverbs 4:20-24: My son, attend to my words; incline thine ear unto my sayings. Let them not depart from thine eyes; keep them in the midst of thine heart. For they are life unto those that find them, and health to all their flesh. Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life. Put away from thee a froward mouth, and perverse lips put far from thee.

12. Isaiah 53:4-5: Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted. But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.

13. Jeremiah 1:12: Then said the Lord unto me, Thou hast well seen: for I will hasten my word to perform it.

18. Matthew 8:2-3: And, behold, there came a leper and worshipped him, saying, Lord, if thou wilt, thou canst make me clean. And Jesus put forth his hand, and touched him, saying, I will; be thou clean. And immediately his leprosy was cleansed.

19. Matthew 8:16-17: When the even was come, they brought unto him many that were possessed with devils: and he cast out the spirits with his word, and healed all that were sick: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Esaias the prophet, saying, Himself took our infirmities, and bare our sicknesses.

20. Matthew 15:30-31: And great multitudes came unto him, having with them those that were lame, blind, dumb, maimed, and many others, and cast them down at Jesus’ feet; and he healed them: insomuch that the multitude wondered, when they saw the dumb to speak, the maimed to be whole, the lame to walk, and the blind to see: and they glorified the God of Israel.

21. Matthew 18:18-19: Verily I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever ye shall loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven. Again I say unto you, That if two of you shall agree on earth as touching any thing that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven.

22. Matthew 21:21-22: Jesus answered and said unto them, Verily I say unto you, If ye have faith, and doubt not, ye shall not only do this which is done to the fig tree, but also if ye shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; it shall be done. 25. Mark 11:22-24: And Jesus answering saith unto them, Have faith in God. For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith. Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them.

26. Mark 16:14-18: Afterward he appeared unto the eleven as they sat at meat, and upbraided them with their unbelief and hardness of heart, because they believed not them which had seen him after he was risen. And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned. And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; they shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.

27. Luke 6:19: And the whole multitude sought to touch him: for there went virtue out of him, and healed them all.

31. Acts 10:38: How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him.

32. Romans 4:16-21: Therefore it is of faith, that it might be by grace; to the end the promise might be sure to all the seed; not to that only which is of the law, but to that also which is of the faith of Abraham; who is the father of us all, (as it is written, I have made thee a father of many nations,) before him whom he believed, even God, who quickeneth the dead, and calleth those things which be not as though they were. Who against hope believed in hope, that he might become the father of many nations, according to that which was spoken, So shall thy seed be. And being not weak in faith, he considered not his own body now dead, when he was about an hundred years old, neither yet the deadness of Sarah’s womb: He staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief; but was strong in faith, giving glory to God; and being fully persuaded that, what he had promised, he was able also to perform.

33. Romans 8:2, 11: For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death. But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you.

34. 2 Corinthians 4:18: While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal.

35. 2 Corinthians 10:3-5: For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh: (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;) casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ.

36. Galatians 3:13-14, 29: Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree: that the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith. And if ye be Christ’s, then are ye Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.

37. Ephesians 6:10-17: Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; and your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

38. Philippians 2:13: [Not in your own strength] for it is God Who is all the while effectually at work in you [energizing and creating in you the power and desire], both to will and to work for His good pleasure and satisfaction and delight.

39. Philippians 4:6-9: Do not fret or have any anxiety about anything, but in every circumstance and in everything, by prayer and petition (definite requests), with thanksgiving, continue to make your wants known to God. And God’s peace [shall be yours, that tranquil state of a soul assured of its salvation through Christ, and so fearing nothing from God and being content with its earthly lot of whatever sort that is, that peace] which transcends all understanding shall garrison and mount guard over your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus. For the rest, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is worthy of reverence and is honorable and seemly, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely and lovable, whatever is kind and winsome and gracious, if there is any virtue and excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think on and weigh and take account of these things [fix your minds on them]. Practice what you have learned and received and heard and seen in me, and model your way of living on it, and the God of peace (of untroubled, undisturbed well-being) will be with you.

40. 2 Timothy 1:7: For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.

41. Hebrews 10:23: Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; (for he is faithful that promised).

42. Hebrews 10:35-36: Cast not away therefore your confidence, which hath great recompence of reward. For ye have need of patience, that, after ye have done the will of God, ye might receive the promise.

43. Hebrews 11:11: Through faith also Sarah herself received strength to conceive seed, and was delivered of a child when she was past age, because she judged him faithful who had promised.

44. Hebrews 13:8: Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and today, and for ever.

45. James 4:7: Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

46. James 5:14-16: Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord: And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him. Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.

47. 1 Peter 2:24: Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.

48. 1 John 3:21-22: Beloved, if our heart condemn us not, then have we confidence toward God. And whatsoever we ask, we receive of him, because we keep his commandments, and do those things that are pleasing in his sight.

49. 1 John 5:14-15: And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us: And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him.

50. 3 John 2: Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth.

Does the Bible Speak to Cremation?

(Courtesy of Phil Cooke)

In modern America many have no objection to cremating dead bodies, but that was not always the case.

Preference for cremation in the United States has risen dramatically in recent decades. According to a July 2017 National Funeral Directors Association report, a slim majority (50.2 percent) of Americans opted to be cremated whereas 43.5 percent chose to be buried.

Reformed theologian John Piper noted in a 2016 Desiring God essay that in 1960 only 3.5 percent of people were cremated and in 1999 it had grown to 24.8 percent. In some states the number has risen to 75 percent, a trend he attributes to increasing secularization and economics.

The former pastor of Bethlehem Baptist Church in St. Paul, Minnesota, advises against the practice of cremation, believing that Scripture does not condone burning but burying the body.

Unlike Greek religion, Piper explained, biblical faith “does not view the body as the prison of the soul.”

“So the afterlife has never been viewed as the ‘immortality of the soul’ finally liberated from its physical prison. Rather, Christianity has always viewed the body as essential to full humanity so that the life to come has primarily been seen as the resurrection of the body in glorious eternal life. [The Apostle] Paul did not consider the intermediate bodiless state, between death and resurrection, as ideal.”

“The greatest thing that can be said about the human body is that the eternal Son of God was incarnate in a human body and will have one forever,” he continued.

In addition to elevating the dignity of the body, Piper stressed that Jesus paid…

Christians and Exorcists Protest Witches Hexing of Justice Kavanaugh with Prayer

Christians and Exorcists Protest Witches Hexing of Justice Kavanaugh with Prayer

On Saturday, 60 people showed up at a Brooklyn Witchcraft bookstore to put a hex on President Donald Trump, Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh, and GOP Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell. This prompted a dozen Christians and exorcists to show up to protest the hex through prayer.

According to the New York Post, over 1,300 people initially planned to attend the hexing ritual but only some 60 people actually showed up. Still, Christians showed up to counteract the hex through prayer.

“We’re praying against their hexes,” one believer said.

The hexing ritual was organized and live streamed by a New York bookshop called Catland Books. According to the Christian Post, the organizers described the ceremony as “an act of resistance and resilience.”

Dakota Bracciale, co-owner of Catland Books, told BBC News that the hex is “aimed at exposing Brett Kavanaugh for what he truly is, to cause him harm and see him undone.”

On the witches’ alter one could see candles and photos of the President, Justice Kavanaugh and Senator Mitch McConnell.

The organizers told BBC that they expect to see results “as soon as possible,” but added that “there’s not a firm timeline on these things.”

The hex comes following Justice Kavanaugh’s confirmation to the supreme court despite being accused of attempted rape by a California professor, Christine Blasey Ford….

Church told replacing stolen roof could cost £400,000

All Saint’s Church in Houghton Conquest, a village in Bedfordshire, is currently raising funds via a Facebook page, as well as a church concert and an autumn bazaar this weekend to contribute to the cost.

The Grade-I listed building had approximately 20 tonnes of lead stolen from its roof over a ‘prolonged period of time’, the police said. An investigation was started earlier this month.

Inspector Nick Masters from Bedfordshire Police said: “Due to the sheer quantity of lead taken, it’s unlikely that it happened over a few days.

“It’s likely that the people responsible were driving trucks or vans so they could transport scaffolding or ladders in order to access the roof of the church, and may have posed as tradesmen.”

According to the church treasurer Joyce Bullock, an architect told the church last week that fixing everything could cost an estimated £400,000.

The church’s insurance policy, with the company Ecclesiastical, only covers £15,000 of that – with a maximum of £7,500 for the roof, as they didn’t have a roof alarm, and another £7,500 if they want to do internal repairs.

The church has already raised £1,000 via donations and the roof has been temporarily covered with plastic to prevent it getting damaged in bad weather.

Inspector Masters finished his statement: “This is an audacious incident and we’re exploring…

Beaten, Kidnapped, Arrested and Forced to Stop Evangelizing

Beaten, Kidnapped, Arrested and Forced to Stop Evangelizing

NEW DELHI, October 22, 2018 (Morning Star News) – When Pastor Mathai Varghese was beaten and abducted by Hindu extremists in Rajasthan state, India, police gave chase and arrested the kidnappers – as well as the pastor.

His car ruined and his body bloodied, he spent a night and the next day in jail with serious injuries unattended before being released on bail. That was just part of the price the 57-year-old pastor of Ebenezer Indian Pentecostal Church, in Suratgarh, paid for attending a house-warming party in a village where a mob of 100 Hindu extremists were waiting for him.

“I was not at fault, still I was beaten, arrested and charged,” Pastor Varghese told Morning Star News.

He and fellow Christian Kashmir Singh had gone to the village of Silvani to attend the house-warming of Rukma Devi Nayak, a widow who says she is more than 100 years old. Nayak has attended the pastor’s church for three years.

Pastor Varghese, his wife and three church members went to Nayak’s house in the pastor’s car on the morning of Sept. 4. While he and more than a dozen other Christians there had begun worshipping with songs followed by Scripture reading, they heard a knock at the door.

As soon as they opened the door, three men barged inside, ordered a woman who was praying to stop and demanded their pastor be handed over to them, he said. While the women in the…
