Pittsburgh Marathon Faces Mounting Calls to Remove Chick-Fil-A as a Sponsor

Pittsburgh’s school board and city council are pushing organizers of the Pittsburgh Marathon to drop Chick-Fil-A as the title sponsor of the Kids Marathon.

At a meeting in late October, the school board will consider a resolution that would prohibit the district’s employees and schools from any official participation at the children’s event. On October 17th, all nine city members signed a letter calling on race manager, P3R to “remove Chick-Fil-A as the title sponsor of the 2019 Pittsburgh Kids Marathon.

The letter cited Chick-Fil-A’s stance on gay marriage and LGBT issues as the reason for their concern. They said, “The leadership of Chick-Fil-A has openly and passionately promulgated hateful beliefs against the LGBTQIA+ community. Additionally, the company has financed organizations staunchly opposed to same-sex marriage and non-discrimination laws and other groups that equate ‘homosexual behavior and lifestyle’ with lawlessness and in opposition to the ‘foundation of the family and basic structure of human society.’”

A petition posted on The Action Network calls on Race CEO Patrice Matamoros to sever the deal with Chick Fil A because it is “an openly homophobic and transphobic business. It has been for years, and despite their PR campaign to change their image, there’s no reason to believe they have moved away from their extreme…

Kenneth & Gloria Copeland Devotional 23 October 2018 – Choose Life

Kenneth & Gloria Copeland Devotional 23 October 2018 – Choose Life

Topic: Choose Life

For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. – Romans 8:6

If you were given the choice between life and death, which would you choose? The answer seems obvious. But, in reality, it’s not.

You see, choosing death doesn’t necessarily mean jumping from the nearest cliff. It’s much more subtle than that.

The Bible says death is being carnally minded, being entangled in this present worldly realm. The Bible also tells us what life is. “My son, attend to my words,” says Proverbs 4:20-22, “…for they are life!”

To be worldly minded is death. To be Word-minded is life.

In Luke 10, there’s a story that illustrates this principle extremely well. It’s the story of Mary and Martha. You probably remember it. Mary was sitting at Jesus’ feet listening to Him teach while Martha was bustling around in the kitchen cooking dinner for everyone.

Finally Martha couldn’t stand it anymore. She came to Jesus and said, “Lord, don’t You care that my sister has left me to do all the work myself? Tell her to help me!” Jesus answered, “Martha, Martha, thou art careful and troubled about many things: but one thing is needful: and Mary hath chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her” (Luke 10:41-42).

Mary had set everything else aside, so she could hear the Word. But Martha had let the seemingly important business of living take priority over the Word. She’d chosen death, not life.

You see how easy it is to slip into that?

“But Brother Copeland,” you say, “if I didn’t spend all my time taking care of the business of living, my life would fall apart!”

Oh, really? Martha probably thought that too. She probably thought if she didn’t cook dinner for all those folks, they’d go hungry. But they wouldn’t have. Jesus had miraculously fed multitudes before and He could have done it again in Martha’s home. She could have plopped herself down at Jesus’ feet, and they could have had a banquet at God’s expense!

Don’t make the mistake that Martha did. Don’t get so entangled in the business of living that you choose death by default. Decide to put the Word first place. Choose Life!

Alabama Supreme Court Justice Implores U.S. Supreme Court to Repeal Roe v. Wade

Alabama Supreme Court Justice Implores U.S. Supreme Court to Repeal Roe v. Wade

The Alabama Supreme Court approved the capital punishment of a man who killed his pregnant wife in 2009, stating that under Alabama’s law, “the value of the life of an unborn child is no less than the value of the lives of other persons.”

According to Christian News, one of the Alabama justices is urging the U.S. Supreme Court to overrule Roe v. Wade in light of this ruling since the landmark court case ruled that the ‘right’ to abortion supersedes an unborn child’s right to life.

“I concur fully with the Court’s rationale that unborn children are persons entitled to the full and equal protection of the law,” Justice Tom Parker wrote in the decision released on Friday. “I write specially to expound upon the principles presented in the main opinion and to note the continued legal anomaly and logical fallacy that is Roe v. Wade.”

“I urge the United States Supreme Court to overrule this increasingly isolated exception to the rights of unborn children,” he stated.

The justice noted that the decision made in the 1973 case does not align with the criminal laws in many states that recognize unborn children as people. Alabama, for example, passed the Brody Act in 2006 after a pregnant woman was found shot and killed. The act declares that “an unborn child in utero at any stage of development, regardless of viability” is a person…

Archaeologists Uncover More Information about Rare ‘Jerusalem’ Stone Inscription Dating to Jesus’ Time

Archaeologists Uncover More Information about Rare ‘Jerusalem’ Stone Inscription Dating to Jesus’ Time

Archeologists have uncovered more information about the 2,000-year-old stone inscription that they say has the oldest record of the full name of Jerusalem.

The inscription on the remnant of a stone column reads “Hananiah son of Dodalos of Jerusalem” and dates to the First Century A.D. – the time of Jesus – and uses the full Hebrew spelling for the city, “Yerushalayi.” It is the oldest-known inscription using the city’s name. The shorthand spelling of “Yerushalem” often was used during the time. Most spellings in the Bible use the shorthand version, according to a press release from the Israel Museum.

Dudy Mevorach, senior curator of archaeology at the Israel Museum, said archaeologists don’t know anything about Hananiah but believe he likely “was an artist-potter, the son of an artist-potter, who adopted a name from the Greek mythological realm, following Daedalus, the infamous artist.”

Inscriptions mentioning “Jerusalem” from the First and Second Temple period “are quite rare,” according to Yuval Baruch, Jerusalem regional archaeologist of the Israel Antiquities Authority, and Ronny Reich of Haifa University.

“But even more unique is the complete spelling of the name as we know it today, which usually appears in the shorthand version,” they said in a statement. “This is the only…

A Majority of Americans Believe that Abortion is a Sin, a New Survey Finds

A Majority of Americans Believe that Abortion is a Sin, a New Survey Finds

A new study finds that a majority of Americans believe that abortion is a sin.

According to Ligonier Ministries “State of Theology” survey, 52 percent of Americans agree that abortion is a sin compared to the 38 percent who believe it is not.

In a press release issued by Ligonier Ministries, they note that there has been a slight increase in opposition to abortion since 2016, increasing from 49 percent opposition in 2016 to 52 percent in 2018.

Today’s climate seems to suggest the opposite result and as such, Ligonier Ministries teaching fellow and president of The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary Dr. Albert Mohler notes, “These survey results may surprise some people, but pro-life beliefs have definitely been gaining ground in recent years.”

He continues, “Pastors and local churches have played a big part in this by teaching about the sanctity of human life. Ultrasound images plainly show the humanity of the child in the womb, and they are provoking the consciences of Americans. Christians are playing a lead role in providing counsel and practical care for those in need.”

Mohler added, “For almost five decades now, abortion has been a central issue in the life of America. With a majority agreeing that abortion is a sin, we have a clear indication that many Americans want the state to restore protection to the unborn…

Author of ‘The Message’ Bible Eugene Peterson Dies at 85

(Photo: Creative Commons)Pastor and author, Eugene Peterson, 85.

Eugene Peterson, the man who penned The Message Bible, has died at the age of 85.

“It feels fitting that his death came on a Monday, the day of the week he always honored as a Sabbath during his years as a pastor,” Peterson’s family said in a statement to NavPress, which published The Message.

“After a lifetime of faithful service to the church — running the race with gusto — it is reassuring to know that Eugene has now entered into the fullness of the Kingdom of God and has been embraced by eternal Sabbath.”

Peterson was the author of 35 books.

His latest, Every Step an Arrival: A 90-Day Devotional for Exploring God’s Word, was released earlier this month.

Peterson’s most famous work, however, is without a doubt The Message: The Bible in Contemporary Language, in which he paraphrased the Scriptures into modern parlance with the goal of giving those distant from the Bible a more accessible take.

He retired from pastoring in 1991 and became a professor of spiritual theology at Regent College in Vancouver, British Columbia. He retired from there in 2006.

Peterson’s last years were spent studying and writing at his home in Montana, where he and his wife, Jan, lived in a home Peterson’s father built.

“Among his…

Open Heaven 23 October 2018 – Don’t be an Accomplice!

Open Heaven 23 October 2018 Tuesday Daily Devotional by Pastor E A Adeboye – Don’t be an Accomplice!

Topic: Don’t be an Accomplice! (Open Heaven 23 October 2018)

Memorise: “For he that biddeth him God speed is partaker of his evil deeds.”- 2 John 1:11

Read: Ephesians 5:1-8 (KJV)

1 Be ye therefore followers of God, as dear children;

2 And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweetsmelling savour.

3 But fornication, and all uncleanness, or covetousness, let it not be once named among you, as becometh saints;

4 Neither filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor jesting, which are not convenient: but rather giving of thanks.

5 For this ye know, that no whoremonger, nor unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, hath any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God.

6 Let no man deceive you with vain words: for because of these things cometh the wrath of God upon the children of disobedience.

7 Be not ye therefore partakers with them.

8 For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light:

Bible in One Year: Jeremiah 16-17, Luke 9:51-10:16

Open Heaven 23 October 2018 Tuesday MESSAGE:

It is unfortunate that sin abounds in the Church of today because we do not collectively abhor evil deeds anymore. Instead of hating what is evil, we actually celebrate sinners, and by so doing, we ignorantly become accomplice of their evil deeds. We no longer follow the instruction of the Holy Spirit in 1 Timothy 5:20, which says:

“Them that sin rebuke before all, that others also may fear.”

Our modern approach is contrary to this scripture because we want to do church in a “civilized” manner. Adam and Eve also desired to be civilized, and they ended up becoming corrupted. Proverbs 24:23-25 says:

23 These things also belong to the wise. It is not good to have respect of persons in judgment. 24 He that saith unto the wicked, Thou art righteous; him shall the people curse, nations shall abhor him: 25 But to them that rebuke him shall be delight, and a good blessing shall come upon them.”

This scripture reveals the danger of being the accomplice of an evil doer and also the blessing attached to detesting and rebuking evil. Romans 12:9b also says:

“Abhor that which is evil; cleave to that which is good.”

This is what is missing in the Church today. My prayer is that the almighty God will revive the Church, and evil deeds shall become alien to the Body of Christ in Jesus’ Name.

The task of rebuking evil is divine, and whoever will perform this task must live above reproach (Romans 2:20-23). He or she must also be ready for persecution and blackmail. However, we should not be deterred by these because evildoers also did the same to the prophets of old. In Matthew 5:10-12, our Lord Jesus Christ said:

10 Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness’ sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. 11 Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake. 12 Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you.”

Jeremiah is a classic example of someone who was maligned for rebuking evil in high places. He was indeed a sad prophet. He lamented the evil of his time so much that a whole book out of the 66 books of the Bible was dedicated to his lamentation. Similarly, even though John the Baptist was the greatest of all men that lived before Christ, his head ended up on a plate because he spoke out against evildoers (Matthew 11:11, Mark 6:25-28). Nevertheless beloved, these sufferings are more tolerable than the judgment reserved for being the accomplice of evildoers. May the Lord help you in this regard in Jesus’ Name.

Open Heaven 23 October 2018 Tuesday Prayer Point:

Father, let righteousness become the resonating song in the Body of Christ all over the world.

Open Heaven 23 October 2018 Tuesday Hymn 16: Stand Up, Stand Up For Jesus

1. Stand up, stand up for Jesus! ye soldiers of the cross;
Lift high His royal banner, it must not suffer loss:
From vict’ry unto vict’ry, His army shall He lead,
Till every foe is vanquished, and Christ is Lord indeed.

2. Stand up, stand up for Jesus! The trumpet call obey:
Forth to the mighty conflict, in this His glorious day;
Ye that are men now serve Him against unnumbered foes;
Let courage rise with danger, and strength to strength oppose.

3. Stand up, stand up for Jesus! Stand in His strength alone,
The arm of flesh will fail you, ye dare not trust your own;
Put on the gospel armor, and watching unto prayer,
Where calls the voice of duty, be never wanting there.

4. Stand up, stand up for Jesus! the strife will not be long;
This day the noise of battle, the next the victor’s song;
To him that overcometh a crown of life shall be;
He with the King of glory shall reign eternally.

Candace Cameron Talks New Book, Reminds Her Kids to Stay Grounded in Their Christian Faith

Candace Cameron Talks New Book, Reminds Her Kids to Stay Grounded in Their Christian Faith

As actress Candace Cameron Bure released her first-ever children’s book, she shared a message with her kids to remember their Christian faith.

Bure became a household name from a young age when she starred as DJ Tanner in the 1980s sitcom Full House. Her role was reprised in 2016 on the hit show’s spinoff Fuller House

But Bure is interested in more than just acting. 2018 marks a career milestone for the multi-talented mother of three with the publication of her first-ever children’s book, Candace Center Stage.

The story follows Candace, a little girl with a larger-than-life personality, as she attends her first dance class. Candace enters the class thinking that she’s the finest dancer around and that she couldn’t possibly need instruction. Soon, however, she realizes that her dancing abilities might not be as exceptional as she thought. With her mother’s encouragement, the bright-eyed ballerina is determined to follow through and overcome the roadblocks she encounters with grace and confidence.

In an interview with US Weekly, Bure explained that “There’s always a little lesson learned in the book, and it really encourages kids to have confidence, keep trying, don’t be afraid to fail, and at the end of the day it’s okay to be yourself.”

The release of this children’s book was a long-awaited dream for the actress. She…

Patrick Garcia Named Lead Pastor at The Hills Church After Controversial Crossroads Firing

(Photo: Facebook)Former Lead Pastor of Crossroads Christian Church in Evansville, Indiana, Patrick Garcia.

Just two months after his controversial firing from his lead pastor role at the multi-campus Crossroads Christian Church in Indiana, Patrick Garcia re-emerged amid a standing ovation Sunday as the lead pastor of The Hills Church, created by former Crossroads leaders and members.

“Thank you so much. It is such an honor to be here. It is an honor to be a part of this family. And it doesn’t go without saying that we stand on the shoulders of so many of you including Rick and Dave and Darryl who took steps of faith early on to start this thing and so we’ve got to give credit where credit is due. And so thank you for stepping out in faith guys,” Garcia, 31, said to applause at the church Sunday.

In August, after dissension erupted at Crossroads Christian Church among members and leaders over Garcia’s firing, elders accused him of being an inexperienced power-hungry leader who wanted “complete control.”

In an interview with The Christian Post Monday, Garcia admitted to having philosophical differences about leadership and purpose with the elders at Crossroads Christian Church.

“When you get down to the heart of it that’s what it was. When you see Paul and Barnabas…

Dozens of Christians Killed in Muslim Attack on Market in Kaduna State, Nigeria

Dozens of Christians Killed in Muslim Attack on Market in Kaduna State, Nigeria

JOSNigeria (Morning Star News) – Muslims attacked a market in Kaduna state, in north-central Nigeria, on Thursday (Oct. 18), killing dozens of Christians and burning a church building, sources said.

Area residents said a Muslim at the market in Kasuwan Magani, 36 kilometers (22 miles) south of the city of Kaduna, began yelling “Thief!” in the late afternoon in a move calculated to cause pandemonium ahead of an attack on Christians and their homes and businesses.

“A Muslim raised a false alarm about a thief in the market, which caused stampede, and then other Muslims started chanting ‘Allahu Akbar [the jihadist slogan, God is Greater],’ attacking Christians, burning houses and shops belonging to Christians in the town,” area resident Kefas Mallam told Morning Star News.

The Rev. James Moore of the town’s Evangelical Church Winning All (ECWA), told Morning Star News that the assailants burned down one church building belonging to the Cherubim and Seraphim movement.

“There was an alert of a thief in the market,” he said. “When people heard ‘Thief! Thief!’ they were confused and started running. Unknown to the people, it was a strategy by the Muslim youth to attack the people. They went into killings, looting and burning.”

Moore, who is the area district secretary of the ECWA, said it was difficult to give a definitive casualty…
