FIRE SCRIPTURE: Judges 16:15-20

MEMORY VERSE: “And the LORD God called unto Adam, and said unto him, Where art thou? – Genesis 3:9

The MESSAGE:

As believers, our location matters a lot. Believers should not be seen in an ungodly gathering rather they should be in fellowship with their brethren. This is the point Apostle Paul emphasised in the book of Hebrews 10:25 when he said we should not forsake the gathering of the brethren. Therefore, as believers, where we are speaks a lot about us and what we are. We should always ask God to direct our path to be at the right place at the right time.

There is a popular prayer we usually pray at Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries (MFM), “O Lord, let me be in the right place at the right time.” Life is a journey not a 100 metres dash (race). God asked Adam “Where are you?” That question implies that Adam was not in the right place. It means that man can be at a wrong place. It also means God got to where Adam was meant to be, but he was not found there. At every point in time, we are all on a journey of destiny and the question often is, are we in the right path? While many of us are on the right path, some are not. For example, Samson was not; Lot went to Sodom and lost everything; Jonah was sent to Nineveh but diverted and found himself in the belly of a fish etc. It is therefore, very possible to miss it. The question is, are you in the right place? Or we can also ask the question just as God asked Adam, “Where are you?” The main reason many believers fail in their endeavours is simply because they are not in the right place ordained for them. Are you in the right place? When you find yourself in the wrong place, the following may happen: Closed heaven, unanswered prayers, inability to hear God clearly, loss of valuables, counterfeit life, departure of glory and frustration.

Beloved, you may need to ask God, your Maker, today to show you the secret you need to know in relation to your location in every area of your life. If you spend quality time with God in prayer today, the God of Elijah shall open your eyes to see your destiny location.

Topic: Nudged Out of the Nest [Joyce Meyer Devotional 23 October 2018]

Likewise, you who are younger, be subject to the elders. Clothe yourselves, all of you, with humility toward one another, for “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.” — 1 Peter 5:5

Baby eagles spend the first three months of their lives in the comfortable nest their parents have prepared. But the eaglets get a big surprise when they are about 12 weeks old. Their mother suddenly begins to throw all of their toys out of the nest.

Next, she begins to pull out all of the comfortable material in the nest—the feathers and the animal fur—and leaves the babies sitting on thorns and sticks. This is what the Bible means when it mentions that the mother eagle “stirs up her nest.” The reason she stirs the nest is that she wants her babies to get out and fly.

Before long, the mother eagle begins to nudge them out of the nest. The little eaglets, who have no idea how to fly, fall through the sky, probably very frightened. Soon, though, they hear a “whoooooooosh” as the mother eagle swoops up under them to catch them.

At that point, the mother eagle takes the babies right back up to the nest and then nudges them out again. She keeps repeating the process, over and over again, until they finally understand that they have no choice but to fly.

The mother eagle does this because she loves them and wants them to have the best lives they can possibly have. Most eaglets won’t get out of the nest without this push. Similarly, most of us will also choose comfort over challenge unless we have no choice at all.

Do you feel God is working in your life the same way the mother eagle does with her young? Has He been pulling some of the padding out of your nest so you find yourself sitting on prickly branches?

Is He saying to you, “Come on, it is time to fly”? If so, remember the mother eagle’s intentions and know that you can trust God’s good intentions for you.

Prayer Starter: Father, help me to always embrace Your best for my life. Show me the areas where I need to “get out of the nest” so I can move on to greater things and “fly.” In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Another reason God allowed the Old Covenant rather than adopt the New Covenant from the beginning is because He was trying to teach us lessons in humility and integrity. If God can admit that the Old Covenant has ‘mistakes’, why are we finding it difficult to admit our mistakes? If God can make another attempt or effort towards achieving His goal, why do we find it difficult to make subsequent attempts after the previous ones flopped? Learn to accept your mistakes so that you can learn from them and move on.

Key Point: When last did you say ‘sorry’? When last did you admit that someone else’s idea is better than yours?

Dear Reader,

It is with great joy and excitement that I welcome you once again to this wonderful segment. I know that by now you would have been able to successfully handle those challenges discussed thus far using the recommended remedies. If you have not, I suggest that before you read further, first apply the forces of forgiveness and meekness and see your family take on a new look.
This week, I have decided to bring you another family challenge that sounds so simple, yet has ruined many families. This is Ingratitude.

WHAT IS INGRATITUDE?

It is unthankfulness. It is failing to acknowledge or appreciate acts of kindness either by God or man. The enemy uses this to distract you from seeing what God has done and focus on what has not been done. A man is waiting on God for a breakthrough, but he is doing so murmuring and complaining. He feels he has done all he ought to have done to experience this breakthrough. He feels that his mates or those supposedly younger than him have achieved much, while he still remains at the same spot. Rather than see what God has done, he is wondering what his offence against God is. This is ingratitude to God.

You may not have achieved what you desire yet, but think about this: some who are the same age with you are insane, others are crippled and some others don’t know where the next meal will come from. Instead of dwelling further on your plight, switch to thanksgiving and praises unto God, for the great things He has done for you so far. Turn the reason for ingratitude into the object of thanksgiving. As you do so, you will encounter the God who is glorious in holiness and fearful in praises.

But, What Should You Be Thankful For?

Thank God for the privilege of being alive and well. Thank God for making you a marriageable material. The mad people on the streets are not thinking of marriage. Some of them are not even clothed, neither do they have shelter. But you have all these. These are more than enough reasons to thank God. As you thank God for those things you have, He will perfect all that concerns you (Psalm 138:8).

Jesus lived a life of gratitude and that resulted in the miracle of the feeding of 5,000 men. The Bible says: Then he took the five loaves and the two fishes, and looking up to heaven, he blessed them, and brake, and gave to the disciples to set before the multitude (Luke 9:16). When Jesus gave thanks, the seemingly insufficient lunch pack of a little boy became sufficient for 5,000 men. Thanksgiving brought about the increase they needed at that time. Also, Jesus at the tomb of Lazarus who had been dead for four days and was already smelling gave thanks. The Bible says: Then they took away the stone from the place where the dead was laid. And Jesus lifted up his eyes, and said, Father, I thank thee that thou hast heard me (John 11:41). When He gave thanks, the dead, rotten and smelling Lazarus came back to life. As you give thanks to God every dead, rotten and smelling part of your family will be restored in Jesus mighty name!

Another type of ingratitude is that towards your partner. Many husbands and wives do not appreciate the little kind acts of their partners. They never say, “Thank you.” Though made up of just two words, saying “Thank You” can bring a lot of joy and peace to the home. Some husbands have stopped providing for the home because their wives never appreciate their efforts. No matter how much they spend, it is never enough.

On the other hand, some husbands find it difficult to appreciate their wives’ inputs at home. No matter how much effort she puts into the smooth running of the home. The man comes in from work, shouting and yelling finding fault with all she has done. The woman soon becomes weary and feels she can never please him. Learn to say “Thank you“ for every little act of kindness and see how exciting your marriage will become.

It is also necessary to appreciate the various inputs of those who live with you and lend a helping hand around the house. Even if you come home to discover that your house-help has done something wrong, don’t start yelling at her and calling her names. You can start by acknowledging the things she has done right and then call her attention to the things not well done. When she does something well, learn to say, “Thank you”. Never forget that good words are worth much more and cost little. You should also learn to say “Thank you” to your children, when they do thank-worthy things. Remember, gratitude is what determines altitude.

To live a life of gratitude like Jesus, you need to accept Him as your Lord and personal Saviour by being born again. If you want to be born again, then make this confession of your faith: Dear Lord Jesus Christ, I come to You today. I am a sinner. Forgive me my sins and cleanse me with Your Blood. I accept You as my Lord and Saviour. Make me a child of God today. Thank You for delivering me from sin and satan to serve the living God and thank You for accepting me into Your Kingdom.

Congratulations! If you prayed this simple prayer of faith with me, you are now born again and a child of God. He loves you and will never leave you. Read your Bible daily, obey God’s Word and seek Christian fellowship (John 14:21).

Topic: Be Conscious of God’s Love [TREM Devotional 23 October 2018]

“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life”. John 3:16

Many believers do not understand that the love of God is power. When we talk of the love of God, we are not talking about maternal and paternal love which parents have for their children. It is not romantic love that people who love themselves express. Neither is it natural affection. We are talking about God’s kind of love. I have discovered that it is a heavy weapon. Many of us think we understand the love of God, but we don’t. You must spend time to meditate on God’s love.

John the beloved could not express it in writing; he says in John 3:16 “for God so loved the world…” In other words, this love can’t be fully expressed in words. It is beyond human understanding, how God would love the unlovable and the disqualified. That means, though I am not qualified, He still loves me. God’s love is favourably disposed to give. He cannot love without giving. Because He is love himself. He has no choice than to give to me.

According to the book of 1 John 4:9-10, God demonstrated His love by sending His only begotten Son to be the propitiation for our sins. He so loved us that He gave himself. If He could give himself, is it healing that He cannot give to you?

In the book of Romans 8:32, it is written: “He who spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all; how shall he not with him also freely give us all things.” What are you looking for? What is your desire? God’s love will release it to you.

What type of human being did He love? Unlovable sinners! When we were without strength, He died for us. How much more now that we have been reconciled. So how dare you count yourself out that you will not have a child? Because He loves you, you will not be denied anything good.

Thought For The Day: Iniquity kills Destiny

The Scripture makes it clear that one key character of life and destiny worthy of emulation is Joseph. Joseph existed in such a realm of massive destiny and impact that he became a voice in a strange land. Everyone in Egypt was at his command; it was what he said that happened and his exploits cannot be wiped out both in time and eternity.

Now, what was the secret of Joseph? It is standing in righteousness. Joseph took a stand for God; he stood against the evil practices of his brothers. He was against the wind of worldliness that blew everyone in his time and consequently, he existed in an enviable realm.

Beloved, to be different from the world and make a mark for God, you must take a stand for God, you must stand out from the crowd; you must run against the evil wind of unrighteousness and iniquity. If Joseph had consented to the pressure and pleasure of immorality from Potiphar’s wife, his destiny would have been buried. In the same way, when you fall into the temptation of committing immorality and other sinful practices and habits, you bury your destiny. Iniquity kills destiny. On the other hand, integrity is key to fulfilling destiny.

Beloved, my counsel is, stand out from the crowd by standing on the ground of righteousness; refuse to do what everyone is doing if it is against God’s Word.

Remember This: Iniquity kills Destiny

1. Endeavour to stand out for God in everything you do.
2. Always make up your mind to say ‘No’ to sin and all forms of iniquity.
3. Draw closer to God in personal intimacy and relationship.

Prayer: O Lord, I ask for the grace to stand out for You in my generation; Help me Lord to live a life of integrity and positive character, LORD, in Jesus’ Name.

Topic: Beware Of Idolatry [DCLM Daily Manna 23 October 2018 Daily Devotional by Pastor William Folorunso Kumuyi]

Text: Deuteronomy 29:16-22 (KJV)

Key Verse: “Lest there should be among you man, or woman, or family, or tribe, whose heart turneth away this day from the LORD our God, to go and serve the gods of these nations; lest there should be among you a root that beareth gall and wormwood“ (Deuteronomy 29:18).

MESSAGE:

God has never hidden the fact that He is a jealous God. Hence, He will not condone anyone serving Him with other gods. “Thou shalt have no other gods before me. Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth: Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God,…” (Exodus 20:3-5).

In contemporary times, idolatry has gone beyond worshipping of objects. Whatever you love, appreciate or give attention to more than God constitutes an idol. The social media, politics, sports, games, fashion, family, career, business, etc. have become the modern-day idols in the lives of many because they do not only compete with God, but also have relegate Him to a position of second fiddle in their lives.

The passage for today reveals the fact that one can be drawn into idolatry through interaction and communication with idolaters as well as seeing or secretly coveting idolatrous activities. The Bible clarifies that “…evil communications corrupt good manners.” The text also outlines some of the consequences of idolatry to include: turning the heart away from God, poisoning the life of the idolatrous as “a root that bears gall and wormwood”, leading to delusion with the idolater blessing “himself in his heart”, and hardening of the heart. It further stated that God will not spare the idolater from His curse and anger. To keep away from idols, we must avoid fellowship with idolaters and guard our hearts diligently.

Thought For The Day: God’s judgment awaits all idolaters.

Topic: Choosing the Trail [Our Daily Bread 23 October 2018 Devotional]

Read: Matthew 7:13–14, Bible in a Year: Jeremiah 1–2; 1 Timothy 3

Small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it. Matthew 7:14

I have a beautiful autumn photograph of a young man on horseback in the Colorado mountains as he contemplates which trail ahead to follow. It reminds me of Robert Frost’s poem “The Road Not Taken.” In it, Frost ponders two pathways that lie before him. Both are equally inviting, but he doubts he will return to this place again, and he must choose one. Frost wrote, “Two roads diverged in a wood, and I—I took the one less traveled by, and that has made all the difference.”

In Jesus’s Sermon on the Mount (Matthew 5–7), the Lord told His listeners, “Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it” (7:13–14).

On our journey through life, we face many choices about which road to travel. Many pathways seem promising and attractive but only one is the pathway of life. Jesus calls us to travel the road of discipleship and obedience to God’s Word—to follow Him instead of the crowd.

As we ponder the road ahead, may God give us wisdom and courage to follow His way—the road of life. It will make all the difference for us and those we love!

Prayer: Lord, as we go through this day, give us eyes to see the narrow road that leads to life and the courage to follow it.

Choose to walk the road of life with Jesus.

INSIGHT
Life is all about choices—and their consequences. As author Robert Louis Stevenson put it, “Sooner or later everyone sits down to a banquet of consequences.” We see this throughout the Scriptures as our first parents hid from God in the ancient garden (Genesis 3:8), Moses was forbidden to enter the promised land (Deuteronomy 32:52), David was confronted by the prophet Nathan (2 Samuel 12), and after denying his Lord, Peter wept bitterly (Luke 22:62). By the same token, Moses counseled the Israelites to choose the things of life (Deuteronomy 30:19), and Solomon warned those who do not choose to fear the Lord (Proverbs 1:28–29). Why is this so important? In Psalm 25:12, David sang, “Who, then, are those who fear the Lord? He will instruct them in the ways they should choose.” When the wisdom of God guides us in our choices, we have less reason to fear the consequences those choices might bring.
