40,000 gather for UK’s largest gathering of Christians

The annual event run by the Redeemed Christian Church of God is the largest single gathering of believers in the UK.

Archbishop of York Dr John Sentamu was just one of those invited to preach during the 8 hour service.

Hosted by Pastor EA Adeboye, those gathered heard from a number of speakers, musical acts and drama.

In 2015, Prime Minister at the time David Cameron visited the Festival of Life to give an address.

CofE calls for simpler gender transition process as Christian doctors’ group labels gov plans ‘dangerous’

However, the Church has declined to officially respond to a government consultation on the issue as it does not hold a “settled view”.

According to the Times, Rev Dr Malcolm Brown, the Church’s director of mission and public affairs, said: “Trans people with gender recognition are already able to marry in our churches. Being transgender does not prevent someone offering themselves for ordained ministry and we have transgender clergy as well as laity.

“We can say with some confidence that excessive bureaucracy in the process of gaining a gender recognition certificate is neither welcoming nor affirming of transgender people…but we do not have a settled view in the Church of England about precisely which aspects of the legal process are necessary.”

Politicians are asking whether the process should be simplified and made possible without approval from a doctor.

The Christian Medical Fellowship has responded to the consultation which ended on Friday.

Chief executive, Dr Peter Saunders, said: “Such a dangerous change would encourage the view that gender identity has nothing to do with a person’s biological sex, it is a merely a social construct. This new ideological dogma has no evidence-base in science and self-declaration would appear to reinforce it as if proven fact.

“The Government is to be commended for seeking to reduce the burden of the process, and it might…

Church defends invitation to Imam to deliver Eucharist sermon

After receiving criticism ahead of Sunday’s event, church leaders said inter faith champion Monawar Hussain will speak after the service at St Mary’s has finished.

The original advert suggested he would deliver the sermon during the service.

The invitation had received criticism from some online.

Writing on the Anglican blog Archbishop Cramner, Adrian Hilton said: “He will no doubt be preaching about love, peace, reconciliation and tolerance, all of which would be laudable topics for an inter-faith lecture or post-worship meditation.

“But by inviting an imam to preach not just a sermon, but a Eucharistic sermon, it is hard to understand how this glorifies the crucified Son of God; how it honours those martyrs who died renouncing theological error and deception; and how it respects a sacred act of divine worship which is supposed to be conducted according to the rites and formularies of the Church of England.”

In response a spokesperson for the Diocese of Oxford said: “Monawar Hussain MBE DL will deliver the University Sermon following the Eucharist at St Mary’s this Sunday. He is most welcome.

“Founder of the Oxford Foundation and the Muslim Tutor at Eton College, Monawar is well known to many in Oxford and he joins a long list of those invited to preach the University Sermon by the Vice Chancellor.

“Monawar is not the…

4 Things That Shouldn’t Drive Church Growth (And One Thing That Should) — Carey Nieuwhof

Something’s driving your church. There are a variety of things that drive a church…the challenge for many church leaders is no one is really quite clear on what that is. What drives your church is critical because it impacts everything you do. Ultimately, it directly impacts both your health and your growth as a congregation. As I talk to leaders of churches of all sizes, I find different factors at work.

Americans’ Theology Contains Mix of Heresy, Hearsay, and Historic Christian Beliefs — Facts & Trends

Six in 10 Americans say religious belief is a matter of personal opinion. For 7 in 10 Americans, such religious beliefs include one true God existing in three persons—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. A similar number say God is perfect. But an increasing majority of Americans deny Jesus has always existed and many say the Holy Spirit is a force rather than a personal being. Those are among the findings of a new study of American views about Christian theology from Nashville-based LifeWay Research.

Police force pleads guilty to health and safety breaches after former church caretaker’s death

Thomas Orchard, 32, died in hospital seven days after being arrested and taken to Heavitree Road police station in Exeter, Devon, in October 2012.

During his detention Mr Orchard, who had paranoid schizophrenia, was restrained and an Emergency Response Belt (ERB) was placed across his face.

He was then left in a locked cell, where he lay apparently motionless for 12 minutes before custody staff re-entered and started CPR.

In March 2017, a custody sergeant and two staff members from Devon and Cornwall Police were acquitted of Mr Orchard’s manslaughter by gross negligence.

A year later, the Crown Prosecution Service announced it had charged the office of the chief constable of the force under the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974.

Shaun Sawyer, the chief constable, appeared at Bristol Crown Court on behalf of the force on Friday and entered a guilty plea to the single charge against it.

This alleges that the force failed to ensure non-employees, including Mr Orchard, were not exposed to risks in connection with the ERB.

The court heard the issue of whether the breaches caused Mr Orchard’s death has not been resolved between prosecution and defence teams.

Judge Julian Lambert will decide on the issue during a hearing, expected to last for three days, in April next year.

One of Europe’s most famous churches finally has a building permit

Church leaders have agreed to pay millions of pounds to authorities after it emerged the work was actually illegal as it is still marked on the property register as an empty plot.

Despite work beginning in the 19 century, Spanish architect Antoni Gaudi’s iconic landmark has been unfinished all that time.

While not due for completion until 2026, the church receives 4.5 million visitors every year.

Writing on Twitter, Barcelona Mayor Ada Colau said the agreement was great for all parties.

“The Sagrada Familia is an icon and the most visited monument in our city.

“After two years of dialog we have made an agreement that will guarantee the payment of the license, secure access to the monument and facilitate local life with improvements to public transport and redevelopment of the nearby streets.”

Teens Open Heavens 20 October 2018 – What Is Your Identity?

Topic: What Is Your Identity? [Teens Open Heavens 20 October 2018]

Memorise: “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things have passed away; behold, all things are become new.”2 Corinthians 5:17

Read: 1 John 3:1-3 (KJV)

Bible In One Year: Jeremiah 3-4, 2 Thessalonians 3

MESSAGE:

Whether we like it or not, everybody has an identity. Sometimes, we choose our identity consciously, at other times, we choose our identity unconsciously. What really determines our identity is who or what we attach ourselves to. Some people attach themselves to music, so we know them as musicians. Some attach themselves to football, so we identify them as footballers. Some on the other hand attach themselves to partying, so we identify them as party junkies. What you attach yourself to determines what is offered to you. For example, you wouldn’t offer a musician a place in a football team because he is not expected to sing the ball into the goalpost.

There are two ultimate beings that everyone is identified with. It is either you are identified with Christ, or you are identified with the Devil. If you claim to be a Christian, but you don’t consciously identify with Christ, you will automatically be identified with the devil. So don’t be surprised when people are inviting you to party with them in the club, or the opposite sex is inviting you to enter into an illicit relationship with them.

Key Point: It is easier to remain a Christian when you make public your identity as a Christian.

Hymn 11:

1. Stand up! Stand up for Jesus,
Ye soldiers of the Cross!
Lift high His royal banner,
It must not suffer loss.
From victory unto victory
His army shall He lead,
Till every foe is vanquished,
And Christ is Lord indeed.

2. Stand up, stand up for Jesus,
The solemn watchword hear;
If while yelling sleep he suffers,
Away with shame and fear.
Where’re yeah meet with evil,
Within you or without,
Charge for the God of battles,
And put the foe to rout.

3. Stand up! Stand up for Jesus!
Stand in His strength alone;
The arm of flesh will fail you,
Ye dare not trust your own.
Put on the gospel armour,
And watching unto prayer;
Where duty calls, or danger,
Be never wanting there.

4. Stand up! Stand up for Jesus!
The strife will not be long;
This day the noise of battle,
The next the victor’s song.
To him that overcometh
A crown of life shall be;
He with the King of glory
Shall reign eternally.

Joyce Meyer Devotional 20 October 2018 — Stop Saying “Hate” and Start Saying “Joy”

Topic: Stop Saying “Hate” and Start Saying “Joy” [Joyce Meyer Devotional 20 October 2018]

But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. — Galatians 5:16

Quite often people use the phrase, “I hate.” They hate driving to work, cleaning their houses, going to the grocery store, cutting the grass, paying their bills, and on and on.

I think each time we say we “hate” something, it makes it harder for us to do it with joy the next time.

Start saying by faith that you enjoy those things that are naturally more difficult for you to enjoy. Start saying it in obedience to God, and soon you will find those things to be more enjoyable.

We can talk ourselves into things and out of things. You can talk yourself into despising something you need to do, or you can have a good attitude and speak good words about it and make it a lot more pleasant.

Prayer Starter: Father, help me to agree with Your Word and begin talking myself into a joyful life. Help me to speak life-giving, positive, and thankful words. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

TREM 20 October 2018 Daily Devotional – Closed Doors Will Open For You

Topic: Closed Doors Will Open For You [TREM 20 October 2018 Daily Devotional]

“And to the angel of the church in Philadelphia write; These things saith he that is holy, he that is true, he that hath the key of David, he that openeth, and no man shutteth; and shutteth, and no man openeth” – Revelation 3:7

One of the things you should come to terms with as a child of God is that God loves you and is able to make all things work together for your good. The fact that a door is closed does not mean the end of the world. Who told you the door is the best that God has in store for you? When faced with a closed door, understand that God is able to open the door, but not just that, He is able to open a bigger and better door for you.

The fact that you were retrenched could be God calling your attention to the entrepreneur in you. Thank God for the job, but how about becoming an employer of labour? Do you think it is impossible? Of course not; God is able and when He opens a door, no one can shut it. This reminds me of the Children of Israel when faced with a famine, so bad that the women were eating their children and the prophet declared: “…Tomorrow about this time shall a measure of fine flour be sold for a shekel …”. It looked absolutely impossible to expect, what the “Economic Adviser said to the king “… Behold, if the LORD would make windows in heaven, might this thing be?’ That is a rational mind speaking, but you know the story, take time to read it all in 2 Kings 6 & 8 and you will see what God did.

No one can shut a door against you; don’t give the devil unnecessary credit. Does a door appear shut? Take it to the Lord and watch Him open incredible doors, just for you. If He did it for the Children of Israel under the Old Covenant, how much more you, the believer?

Seeds of Destiny 20 October 2018 Devotional – Relinquishing the Ownership of Your Life to God

Topic: Relinquishing the Ownership of Your Life to God [Seeds of Destiny 20 October 2018 Devotional]

Scripture: This people have I formed for myself; they shall shew forth my praise. Isaiah 43:21

Thought For The Day: Claiming to give your life to God while your resources are not owned by Him is deception.

The place of understanding in the life of a person is very critical in fulfilling destiny; where understanding is lacking, abuse is inevitable.

Previously, we saw that the bankruptcy of the understanding of what it means to give one’s life to Christ is a reason for people remaining unchanged even after answering the altar call to give their lives to Christ. Hence, a correct understanding of what it means to give or surrender one’s life to Christ is very important.

Another reason why this understanding is important is because many people who claim to have given their lives to Christ place priority on vanity instead of spirituality; and on carnality above purity. People are more concerned about what to drive or wear to the detriment of maintaining quality Christian life. In the midst of obvious materialism, they still claim to have given their lives to Christ. Is this what it means to give one’s life to Christ? Not at all!

Now, I give you one implication of giving one’s life to Christ:
Allowing God to have the title deed of your life

This is where God has the full ownership of your life; what you do with your time, how you appear, your resources, your energy or the relationships of your life, etc. are all for the glory of God.

When God has the ownership of your life, He also owns your resources. Claiming to give your life to God while your resources are not owned by Him is deception. The truth is, it is not a matter of how much you can give to God but how much of God’s money are you keeping for yourself.

Beloved, make up your mind to come to a point where God can boldly say that He owns you.

Remember This: Claiming to give your life to God while your resources are not owned by Him is deception.

Assignments:
1. Determine to make God the Centre of your life.
2. Have the God-first mentality in everything you do.

Prayer: Lord, I surrender all I am and have to You. Kill every desire to gratify the flesh in me Lord, in Jesus’ Name.
