DCLM Daily Manna 20 October 2018 – God’s Unfailing Promises

Topic: God’s Unfailing Promises [DCLM Daily Manna 20 October 2018 Daily Devotional by Pastor William Folorunso Kumuyi]

Text: Isaiah 65:17-25 (KJV)

Key Verse: “And it shall come to pass, that before they call, I will answer; and while they are yet speaking, I will hear (Isaiah 65:24).

MESSAGE:

Today’s text opens on a very optimistic note of God’s promise to create new heaven and a new earth. Aside the eschatological perspective, it is equally important to point out its relevance to our current circumstances. There is no reason you should give up in life to discouragement or failure if you can trust His creative power and promises. His word gives the assurance that something new can come out of your inglorious past. You should therefore trust that whatever your past or present has been, your future can be glorious.

His promises, as outlined in the passage encompass the removal of the fear of death and bestowal of longevity. He has also promised to prosper and bless the work of your hands, to rebuke the devourer for you and grant you peace and tranquillity. He also assures us of instant answer to prayers, provision and security. In essence, through God, we can have life in abundance with no lack, no loss and no limitations. It is clear that these great promises are for those referred to as, “my people”, “mine elect”, and “the seed of the blessed”.

The bitter truth from this passage also is the assertion that, “the sinner being hundred years old shall be accursed”. The question therefore is, where do you belong? The “blessed seed” or “the accursed”. It’s not too late to open a new chapter by allowing God to make your life and character new through cleansing in the blood of Christ. If you are a sinner, you must sincerely repent and ask for forgiveness before He does this in your life. Where you belong determines what you enjoy.

Thought For The Day: The accursed sinner will not be part of Christ’s glorious kingdom.

Our Daily Bread 20 October 2018 Devotional – Always Accepted

Topic: Always Accepted [Our Daily Bread 20 October 2018 Devotional]

Read: Luke 19:1–10, Bible in a Year: Isaiah 59–61; 2 Thessalonians 3

The Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost. Luke 19:10

After several years of struggling to keep up in her studies, Angie was finally taken out of her elite primary school and transferred to a “normal” one. In Singapore’s intensely competitive education landscape, where being in a “good” school can improve one’s future prospects, many would see this as a failure.

Angie’s parents were disappointed, and Angie herself felt as if she had been demoted. But soon after joining her new school, the nine year old realized what it meant to be in a class of average students. “Mummy, I belong here,” she said. “I’m finally accepted!”

It reminded me of how excited Zacchaeus must have felt when Jesus invited Himself to the tax collector’s home (Luke 19:5). Christ was interested in dining with those who knew they were flawed and didn’t deserve God’s grace (v. 10). Having found us—and loved us—as we were, Jesus gives us the promise of perfection through His death and resurrection. We are made perfect through His grace alone.

I’ve often found my spiritual journey to be one of constant struggle, knowing that my life falls far short of God’s ideal. How comforting it is to know that we are always accepted, for the Holy Spirit is in the business of molding us to be like Jesus.

Prayer: Father, thank You for loving me as I am, and for making me perfect through Your Son’s sacrifice. Teach me to submit to Your daily renewal.

We’re not perfect, but we’re loved.

INSIGHT
In Luke 19, Jesus gives His mission statement: “The Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost” (v. 10). Those words convey even more importance when we consider their timing: Jesus is purposefully, methodically making His way to Jerusalem to be crucified. On the way, He draws people to Him, including this despised, wealthy tax collector. The crowd had already judged Zacchaeus—and Jesus. “He has gone to be the guest of a sinner,” they said of Him (v. 7). Jesus saw it differently. Zacchaeus’s declaration, “Here and now I give half of my possessions to the poor,” revealed the change in his heart (v. 8); and Jesus responded, “This man, too, is a son of Abraham” (v. 9).

Are we prone to snap judgments about other people’s sins? Or do we see ourselves as recipients of God’s grace, freely extended to anyone who recognizes their need of it?

Nine-Year-Old Boy Falsely Accused of Sexual Assault Says, ‘I Felt Humiliated’

Nine-Year-Old Boy Falsely Accused of Sexual Assault Says, ‘I Felt Humiliated’

A nine-year-old boy who was accused of sexual assault in a Brooklyn convenience store is struggling to move forward after being proven innocent.

Jeremiah Harvey was at the center of a viral video dubbed “Cornerstore Caroline” when a woman, later identified as Teresa Klein, called 9-1-1 claiming that Harvey grabbed her butt.

In a video of the incident uploaded to social media by Jason Littlejohn, Klein can be heard yelling into her phone, “I want the cops here right now. I was sexually assaulted by a child!”

After the video surfaced, it garnered national attention, many claiming that Klein only called 9-1-1 because Harvey was black.

In an interview with ABC’s WABC in New York, Klein said, “I called 911 because this woman was very aggressive.” Klein also denied the allegations that she called the police because of Harvey’s race.

A few days later, after security footage showed that Harvey had done nothing wrong and that his backpack merely grazed the woman’s back, Klein issued an apology to Harvey. She said, “Young man, I don’t know your name, but I’m sorry.”

Still, Harvey said in an interview on Good Morning America that he is struggling to move forward.

Harvey and his mother sat down with Lindsey Davis from ABC News where he said, “It’s still hard because lately on my mind, like, I can’t think nothing but…

VGF Church Founder John Schouten Resigns Over ‘Illegal’ Sexual Sin Before Conversion

(Photo: Facebook/VGF Church)Pastor John Schouten.

Pastor John Schouten, founder of VGF Church, the largest church in Licking County, Ohio, has parted ways with his church after he was confronted with what was described as a “wrong, evil, and illegal” sexual sin he committed more than 30 years ago before he became a Christian.

The Newark Advocate reported that the church leaders were notified of the allegations against their pastor in an email during the summer and struggled with how to handle the situation. Schouten, who previously admitted to abusing drugs and cheating on his wife, Marilyn, during the early years of their marriage, has routinely talked about the wayward life he lived before becoming a Christian.

Church leaders told the congregation in a recent email that Schouten offered to resign once church leaders were told of his actions but they did not accept it. They chose instead to place him on paid administrative leave while leaders made a decision.

Mark Weaver, the church’s designated spokesman who also attends VGF, confirmed with The Christian Post on Friday that Schouten’s sin involved only one accuser. He said the church consulted with an attorney who advised them that because the incident happened more than 30 years ago, the statute…

Bronze Medal Cyclist Labeled ‘Transphobic’ for Not Wanting Biological Men in Women’s Race

Bronze Medal Cyclist Labeled ‘Transphobic’ for Not Wanting Biological Men in Women’s Race

The cyclist who finished third in a women’s world championship race won by a biological man says she is working to change the rules.

“For those of you who think I have ‘folded’ I have not,” Bronze medalist Jennifer Wagner-Assali wrote in a Tweet Thursday. “There’s a group of us working on getting the rules changed but we are going to fight it offline, not in the name-calling angry world of social media. I’m choosing to move on in a positive way.”

Wagner-Assali finished third Sunday in the 35-44 female age bracket at the UCI Masters track cycling championships in Los Angeles. Rachel McKinnon, a transgender woman who was born a man, won the race.

Wagner-Assali tweeted on Sunday that the race was “NOT fair” and that “just because it’s a CURRENT UCI rule doesn’t make it fair or right. And rules can be changed.”

On Thursday, she expressed regret with what she had said, but not on her position on the issue.

“After having some time to reflect, I realize my twitter comments earlier this week unintentionally fanned the flames on a controversial situation, and that I regret,” she wrote. “I made the comments out of a feeling of frustration, but they weren’t productive or positive.

“They were just inflammatory, and that’s not who I want to be or am,” Wagner-Assali added. “While I may not agree…

Gospel Preachers Should Expect to Be ‘Lonely,’ ‘Deserted,’ Says Evangelical Leader

(Screenshot: Facebook/The Gospel Coalition)Ligon Duncan, chancellor and CEO of Reformed Theological Seminary and president of the Alliance of Confessing Evangelicals, giving the final speech at The Gospel Coalition’s West Coast Conference in Fullerton, California on Thursday, Oct. 18, 2018.

A prominent evangelical leader has warned that preachers of the Gospel should expect to be “lonely” and even “deserted” by ministry partners.

Ligon Duncan, chancellor and CEO of Reformed Theological Seminary and president of the Alliance of Confessing Evangelicals, cited Apostle Paul who implored Timothy and others to visit him as he spoke of being deserted

Duncan argued that Paul wanted to Timothy have an “utterly realistic” understanding of ministry, including the likelihood that many will desert him.

“Faithfulness in ministry does not necessarily mean that you will always enjoy the companionship and the support of friends and colleagues in ministry,” said Duncan at The Gospel Coalition’s West Coast Conference on Thursday.

“Here’s Paul in the last days of his life and his ministry and he has been abandoned by ministry colleagues … Paul is dealing with loneliness.”

“Don’t think just because you’re faithful to God, you won’t face loneliness and desertion,” he added. “A Gospel…

Open Heaven 20 October 2018 – A Great Secret of Overcomers

Open Heaven 20 October 2018 Saturday Daily Devotional by Pastor E A Adeboye – A Great Secret of Overcomers

Topic: A Great Secret of Overcomers (Open Heaven 20 October 2018)

Memorise: “And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.”2 Timothy 3:15

Read: Matthew 4:1-11 (KJV)

1 Then was Jesus led up of the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil.

2 And when he had fasted forty days and forty nights, he was afterward an hungred.

3 And when the tempter came to him, he said, If thou be the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread.

4 But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.

5 Then the devil taketh him up into the holy city, and setteth him on a pinnacle of the temple,

6 And saith unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down: for it is written, He shall give his angels charge concerning thee: and in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone.

7 Jesus said unto him, It is written again, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.

8 Again, the devil taketh him up into an exceeding high mountain, and sheweth him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them;

9 And saith unto him, All these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me.

10 Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.

11 Then the devil leaveth him, and, behold, angels came and ministered unto him.

Bible in One Year: Jeremiah 9-10, Luke 8:40-9:6

Open Heaven 20 October 2018 Saturday MESSAGE:

The term “Overcomer” is used in Christian parlance to describe a champion, victor or conqueror. It describes a person who has run the Christian race and finished it triumphantly. In His letter to the seven churches in Asia, the Lord revealed seven different rewards He would give to those who fit this description (Revelation 2-3). Beyond these seven rewards, in Revelation 21:7, the Father Himself promised one final reward for overcomers, saying:

“He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son.”

How amazing! If I were you, I will strive very hard to partake of these rewards. To qualify as an overcomer, I recommend that you first take a look at the life of those who ran the Christian race before you and overcame. This will help you understand the secrets of how they succeeded, and you can then apply those principles in your own heavenly race. Let’s take a look at the greatest of these overcomers, in the person of our Lord Jesus Christ (Revelation 3:21). Of all the battles He won, He triumphed over the devil in two spectacular ways that are worthy of mention. First, in our Bible text, He was engaged by the devil in a crucial contest and He knocked the devil out through the power of God’s word. Secondly, although the devil masterminded His arrest, trial and execution, the Lord still triumphantly worked out the miracle of His resurrection from the dead. Colossians 2:15 says,

“And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it.”

Through His death, the Lord defeated the devil in hell and paraded him and his cohorts in an open show of shame, confirming His supremacy over the kingdom of darkness. I pray that you will comprehend and begin to walk in the victory of Jesus from today in Jesus’ Name.

While He was in this world, what was the main weapon used by the Lord in overcoming? It is God’s word. Several times, he quoted the Scriptures as a weapon against the devil. God gave us His word as a tool for developing strong faith and confidence in Him. We are nurtured in faith and brought to spiritual maturity through His word. Remembering God’s great deeds in the past builds up our hope in Him (Roman 15:4). Besides giving us hope, God’s word is also a potent weapon of warfare against the kingdom of darkness (2 Corinthians 10:4). It is empowered to pull down the strongholds of sin, sicknesses, generational curses and death. It also has the power to break the yolk of failure, barrenness and poverty I therefore decree that the power in the word of God will completely destroy every yoke in your life today in Jesus’ Name.

Open Heaven 20 October 2018 Saturday Prayer Point:

Father, please grant me grace to finish the race as an overcomer in Jesus’ Name.

Open Heaven 20 October 2018 Saturday Hymn 18: Conqueror and Overcomers Now Are We

1. Conquerors and overcomers now are we,
Thro’ the precious blood of Christ we’ve victory
If the Lord be for us we can never fail,
Nothing ‘gainst His mighty power can e’er prevail.

Chorus
Conquerors are we, thr’o the blood of Jesus
God will give us victory, thro’ the blood of Jesus
Through the Lamb for sinners slain,
Yet who lives and reigns again,
More than conquerors are we,
More than conquerors are we.

2. In the name of Israel’s God we’ll onward press,
Overcoming sin and all unrighteousness;
Not to us but unto Him the praise shall be,
For salvation and for blood bought victory.

3. Unto Him that overcometh shall be given,
Here to eat of hidden manna sent from Heaven,
Over yonder He the victors palm shall bear,
And a robe of white, and golden crown shall wear.

Stephen Curry Signs on as Executive Producer of New Faith-Based Film

Stephen Curry Signs on as Executive Producer of New Faith-Based Film

NBA superstar Stephen Curry has signed on as an executive producer for a new faith-based film called Breakthrough.

The film is based on a book called The Impossible by Joyce Smith which tells the inspiringly true story of how Smith’s son, John, fell through the ice, drowned, and was declared legally dead, only to be revived an hour later through the power of prayer.

According to CBS SportsBreakthrough will be Curry’s first project since he launched Unanimous Media, his film and TV company under Sony Pictures Entertainment, earlier this year.

Curry co-founded Unanimous Media with Jeron Smith and Erick Peyton.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Curry jumped at the chance to work on Breakthrough because of its strong messages of faith and family.

“John’s story is nothing short of incredible,” Curry told THR. “It’s a story about the power of prayer and perseverance and one I immediately connected to. After reading the script, I knew I wanted to be a part of bringing it to life onscreen.”

According to THR, executive producer DeVon Franklin pitched the movie to the Golden State Warrior during a general movie meeting and 24 hours later Curry was sold.

“When we first set out in the entertainment business, we had a simple objective: we wanted to tell stories that would move people,” Peyton told THR in a statement. “It’s been paramount that we work on…

Facebook Blocks Ads for Movie about Abortion Doctor Kermit Gosnell

Facebook Blocks Ads for Movie about Abortion Doctor Kermit Gosnell

The filmmakers behind a movie about abortion doctor Kermit Gosnell say Facebook blocked ads promoting the film.

“The Silicon establishment do not want this story told,” Phelim McAleer, a producer of Gosnell: The Trial of America’s Biggest Serial Killertold The Federalist.

Supporters of the movie, McAleer said, tried paying to “boost” several posts about the movie but were rejected. They even tried boosting a post from a mainstream outlet.

“They [Facebook] simply state it’s not been approved and to check their standards, but it does not give you a specific reason why this post could not be promoted at all to a wider audience,” McAleer said. “It’s clear it is the pro-life audience that they don’t want to encourage or provide content to. They really hate anyone who doesn’t subscribe to the liberal world view.”

Without Facebook’s help, many people who might want to see the movie don’t even know about it.

“Facebook is essentially silencing these children and women whom Gosnell murdered,” McAleer told The Federalist. “This is content journalists should be covering but Facebook is putting their thumb on the scale because they do not like the content. … As independent filmmakers, we have a limited budget and Facebook was a mainstay of our outreach efforts.”

Gosnell is the Philadelphia abortion doctor who was sentenced to…

Gay-cake bakery to close Belfast store

The Christian-run Ashers Bakery is to close its Belfast city centre store due to low footfall as a result of a fire that reduced the nearby Primark to a shell.

The fire which happened in August was followed by a 100m cordon closed 14 shops within its perimeter as a safety precaution and in response the amount of shoppers in the city has slumped.

The bakery on Royal Avenue which is 200ft from the clothing chain’s flagship store was in headlines last week after being vindicated of discrimination on the grounds of sexual orientation for refusing to print a message on a cake endorsing same-sex marriage.

Christians across the world had been praying for a victory for the case despite two initial losses at the County Court and the Court of Appeal.

Speaking to the Belfast Telegraph on the decision not to renew the lease, general manager Daniel McArthur said: “It simply comes down to the figures

“Belfast city centre isn’t busy enough – our other shops are much busier.

“I am pleased to say there will be no job losses.”

Last year, the bakery reported that their profits had grown to £1.5million.

What should happen to the Primark store has divided opinion with businesses saying that in order to salvage the upcoming Christmas trade, the listed building should be pulled down.

Primark has donated £500,000 to Belfast City Council to help affected traders.
