After a video of a pastor praying with a high school football team went viral in September, the pastor was told he could no longer pray with the team. 

Georgia pastor Russel Davis was asked to stop praying with the Dawson County public school’s football team after a viral video garnered a complaint from the Wisconsin-based Freedom From Religion Foundation. 

In the video, Davis prayed for the players to “unite people together” and to recognize God’s purpose for their lives.

“The Word says when they came out they compelled Him to carry the cross, and then Jesus went to the hill and He won victory on the cross,” Davis says in the video. “Your goal tonight is not to die on the cross. It is not to die on the field of battle. We’re calling you out tonight to carry their cross,” he said pointing at a group of child football players who joined the high schoolers in the locker room. 

The Christian Post reports that after the video surfaced, the FFRF issued a letter to the school district demanding that they terminate Pastor Russell from his position of character coach and end the allowance of prayer led by him or any other volunteer or employee. FFRF called this schools allowance of prayer a “serious and flagrant violation of the Frist Amendment.”

Former NFL quarterback Tim Tebow is co-producing his first film and it is a tale of faith and overcoming adversity. 

“Run the Race,” is Tebow’s producing debut film which he is co-producing with his brother Robby. The film tells the story of two brothers who have lost their mom and whose father walked out on them after her death. Despite this, the brothers are determined to make the best out of a bad situation. They plan on obtaining football scholarships so that they can use the money to change their circumstances. Suddenly, everything changes when one of the brothers sustains an injury bringing his football dream to a screeching halt.

The film follows the two boys’ journey of faith, family, and football as they work to overcome this series of misfortunes. 

In an interview with CBN News, Tebow noted that this story has many elements that are not unlike his own trials. 

“There are a lot of similarities in my life between two brothers supporting one another, having each other’s back, believing in one another,” Tebow shared. “My family and my brother have always given me so much support. That’s made such a big impact on me being able to go after my dreams.”

NEW DELHI (Morning Star News) – Attacks and other actions against Christians in Sri Lanka have escalated this year, with Hindu extremism beginning to take root along with long-time Buddhist aggression, according to rights advocates.

“Last month there have been more incidents that have been documented than previous months,” an attorney with the National Christian Evangelical Alliance of Sri Lanka (NCEASL) who requested anonymity told Morning Star News.

NCEASL reported 67 incidents against Christians in Sri Lanka from January through September. Last month saw the highest number of cases reported this year, 12, while 10 incidents were recorded in each of two months, July and March, followed by April and January with eight incidents each.

June and July saw seven incidents each, followed by May with four and February with two.

The highest number of incidents fell under the category of “violence” and “threats” against Christians, with 16 cases each, according to NCEASL figures. This was followed by nine incidents in each of the categories of “discrimination,” “demands for closure” (of worship places) and “intimidation,” while “police inaction,” “false allegations” and “registration” (of cases against Christians) registered two incidents each. One case each of “legal challenge” and “demonstration” were recorded.

After the arrest of thirteen Christians in the western part of Darfur, a state-appointed committee has demanded that a church in Omdurman turn over its properties.

According to Christian News, Sudanese security arrested thirteen Christians on Saturday from a house they had gathered at. Three people have been released so far, but it’s unclear what the charges are for the others.

Church leader Tajaldin Idriss Yousif was arrested along with church members: Alfadil Ismail Alnil, Ahmed Mohammed Hassan, Neseraldin Osman, Shemen Ahmed Shemen and Abubaker Biri.

Law allows the National Intelligence and Security Services to hold people in detention for up to four and a half months before they can be released or charged.

“We are worried because their whereabouts are still unknown,” said one source. “The Christians gathered as one body of Christ from different denominations.”

Meanwhile, another church in Sudan is being forced to hand over its land.

“The Omdurman police summoned the church’s leader on Monday [8 October] and ordered him to hand over leadership of the congregation to a rival committee,” a local source told World Watch Monitor.

“They want the congregation to vacate their compound.”

Other churches are also battling with the government over ownership of its properties. Many have faced fines and even closure.

Pastor Craig Gross of XXXchurch has offered advice to people who say they keep trying harder but failing to quit pornography.

Gross, who leads a Christian ministry that helps men and women deal with pornography addiction, challenged some misconceptions when it comes to the struggle, and suggested that people who think they have really tried to quit, but are not doing the right things, are setting themselves up for failure.

“Who in your life that you know can you write that email to, or make that phone call to, that can actually do something about it?” he asked, in reference to asking for help.

“Have you shared personally about this with your spouse, with your friend?”

The pastor gave examples from his everyday life of people who say they have tried accomplishing things, but in reality are not taking the right measures.

When it comes specifically to getting help for porn addiction, Gross noted that “people sign up, they say they have watched a video or joined a group,” but “the ones who actually have changed are the ones who haven’t missed a meeting, the ones that even when the struggle is behind them, they are still showing up to support other people inside their community.”
