Andrew Wommack Devotional 9 October 2018 – Resist The Temptation Of Sin

Topic: Resist The Temptation Of Sin [Andrew Wommack Devotional 9 October 2018]

Luke 22:3 “Then entered Satan into Judas surnamed Iscariot, being of the number of the twelve.”

Some people have speculated that Judas betrayed Jesus in an effort to force Jesus into a confrontation with the Roman government. Then He would have to use His supernatural power in self-defense and overthrow the Romans, thereby giving independence back to the nation of Israel.

This idea is based mainly on the response of Judas when he saw that Jesus was condemned. Judas “repented himself” (Mt. 27:3), implying that the condemnation of Jesus was never his intent. However, scripture does not endow Judas with noble (even if misdirected) virtues. He was simply a thief.

This verse makes it very clear that Satan entered into Judas and was responsible for putting the betrayal of Jesus into Judas’ heart. We can be assured that Satan’s only purpose in motivating Judas to betray Jesus was to steal, kill, and destroy (Jn. 10:10).

Moreover, the fact that Satan possessed Judas does not acquit Judas of the responsibility for his actions. The devil goes about seeking whom he may devour (1 Pet. 5:8). He cannot devour just anyone. We have to give place to him. By being a thief, Judas gave Satan access to him. He may have never intended to betray Jesus and therefore “repented himself” when he saw that Jesus was condemned. Once he began to willfully submit to the sin of thievery, it was hard to stop.

Sin cannot be controlled. We cannot just sin “a little.” Sin, like a cancer, always grows until it brings forth death. Submitting ourselves to God and resisting the devil is our only guarantee against being devoured by the devil (Jas. 4:7). When we choose to sin, we are not submitting to God or resisting the devil.

Billy Graham Devotional 9 October 2018 — The Real Source of Power

Topic: The Real Source of Power [Billy Graham Devotional 9 October 2018]

But seek ye first the kingdom of God . . . — Matthew 6:33

A man or a woman who has been focusing all attention on financial gains, or business, or social prestige, or who has centered all his affection on some one person, experiences a devastating sense of loss when denied the thing that has given life its meaning. In these tragic moments, the individual recognizes how terribly and completely alone he is.

In that moment the Holy Spirit may cause the worldly bandages to fall from his eyes so that he sees clearly for the first time. He recognizes that God is the only source of real power, and the only enduring fountainhead of love and companionship.

Prayer for the day: From out of the depths, Lord, my eyes have seen that only You are unchanging, eternal love. Help me to put You first in everything I do.

Bulgarian TV Reporter Raped and Murdered; 3rd Journalist to Be Killed in the EU in the Last Year – Urban Christian News

Bulgarian television reporter Viktoria Marinova has become the third journalist to be murdered in the European Union in the last year and the fourth since the start of 2017.

The 30-year-old’s body was found dumped near the Danube River in the town of Ruse, northern Bulgaria, on Saturday. Police said she had been beaten, raped and strangled.

It is not known if Marinova’s murder is linked to her journalism work. Investigators are still trying to trace potential witnesses and establish a motive for her killing. However, Bulgarian media reported that Marinova recently interviewed Romanian journalists who were investigating politicians and businessmen for alleged corruption of EU funds.

“It is about rape and murder,” Interior Minister Mladen Marinov said, apparently concluding there was no evidence to suggest the killing was linked to Marinova’s work.

Marinova worked for a small local TV station called TVN where she presented two investigative programs. The Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe, an intergovernmental organization, called for a “thorough investigation” of her rape and murder, noting “a trend of increased attacks against female journalists.”

Ben Affleck Turns to God While Recovering from Alcohol Abuse

Ben Affleck Turns to God While Recovering from Alcohol Abuse

News broke in August that Award-winning actor Ben Affleck had checked himself into rehab for alcohol addiction. Affleck has a long history of substance abuse and has gone to rehab in the past, an experience he has not hesitated to share.

According to The Christian Post, the actor’s estranged wife, Jennifer Garner, staged an intervention for the father of her children about five weeks ago, with a bible in her hands. Garner, who split from Affleck amicably in 2015, then personally drove Affleck to a private rehab facility in Florida for an extended stay.

Affleck has been in the rehab center since the intervention several weeks ago, and outlets like TMZ are reporting that he has decided to turn to God for strength during this time.

TMZ spotted Affleck with Garner, last weekend, walking into a church Sunday morning in Pacific Palisades with their son, Samuel, and their daughters, Violet and Seraphina. Reports are saying that Affleck looked like he was in substantially better health.

Nonetheless, Garner has reportedly sought to speed up the couple’s divorce which has been on-going for the past three years.

In March of 2017, Affleck shared a post to Facebook saying that he “completed treatment for alcohol addiction.” He went on to note that this is a struggle he has “dealt with in the past and will continue to confront.”

But through this trial, Affleck wrote…

British Fisherman Dies From Sea Snake Bite – Urban Christian News

A fisherman who suffered a fatal sea snake bite told crew mates he felt fine hours before his death.

Harry Evans, a 23-year-old British man, was pulling up a net on a fishing trawler hours away from Australia’s northern coast when a sea snake bit him on his thumb.

Moments after the bite, he said he felt normal, took a shower and put antiseptic on the bite, his mother Sharon Evans told The Sun.

“Then his eyes rolled and he drifted in and out of consciousness for a while and fell asleep,” she told the newspaper.

She learned Thursday he had died from the bite working his dream job.

It was a “tragically unlucky accident,” venom expert and professor at University of Queensland told the BBC.

‘Risk level of climate change now critical’ says Church of England Bishop in response to climate report

Rt Rev Nicholas Holtam was responding to the report by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) which warns that the global temperature rise must be limited to 1.5 degrees Celsius.

Otherwise the scientists warn of ever worse flooding and drought affecting hundreds of millions of people around the world.

The IPCC says a 1.5 degrees Celsius rise could be passed in twelve years if we do nothing more.

Bishop Nicholas told Premier: “The scientists are saying this is even more urgent than we realised and what they are saying to all of us but especially to our politicians is, we’ve got to get on with a really fundamental series of changes in order to keep the climate in such a way [that] it’s just for all people.”

He said an ambitious UK Government would seek to be a world leader by committing to a target of net zero emissions by 2050.Bishop Nicholas told Premier we can make a difference as individuals.

He added: “The ways in which we can make the biggest difference are in the way we travel, the way we eat, less meat, more plant, vegetables, beans and so on, and that makes quite a big difference.”

The Rev Dr Darrell Hannah is a trustee for the Christian environmental campaign, Operation Noah. He told Premier that how we respond is a matter of Christian discipleship.

He said: “We need to lead the way with living holy lives. A holy life, we now know, means that we…

Was Jesus a Carpenter?

(Screenshot: WAFB)The controversial statue of Jesus that officials at Red Bank Baptist Church in South Carolina say makes the church look Catholic.

In popular accounts of the life of Jesus, he is often portrayed as a carpenter. But is it true?

Throughout most English translations of the Gospels, the Son of God is referred to as a “carpenter” as in Mark 6:3, which reads: “Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary and brother of James and Joses and Judas and Simon? And are not his sisters here with us?”

Yet the Greek work here is “tekton” — often translated in English as “carpenter”— is better translated “builder,” which could just as easily refer to a stone mason, according to religious scholar James Tabor.

Tabor noted in a December blog entry that it is important to note the context in which Jesus lived and how that informed his teachings.

“If one looks at the various stories Jesus tells as parables and analogies, related to his message of the Kingdom of God, the image of a stone mason or builder is dominant — even down to the details of how to plan, finance, and properly lay a solid foundation for a substantial building or tower,” Tabor wrote.

“Whether he was a skilled day laborer, a contract worker, or perhaps, even a managing contractor, we have no way of knowing.”

The scholar continued that during the years when Jesus was growing up walking the earth, Herod Antipas was rebuilding the city of Sepphoris (Tspori in Hebrew), as his capital. Nazareth, which was located less than four miles…

Boy Sexually Assaulted Kindergarten Girl in School Bathroom Due to Transgender Policy, Complaint Says

Boy Sexually Assaulted Kindergarten Girl in School Bathroom Due to Transgender Policy, Complaint Says

A Georgia mom says her kindergarten daughter was sexually assaulted by a boy in the bathroom due to the school’s transgender bathroom policy, according to a federal civil rights complaint.

Decatur, Ga., public schools have a policy allowing children to use the restroom that corresponds to the child’s gender identity. Last November, the 5-year-old kindergarten girl was in the bathroom at Oakhurst Elementary School when a “gender fluid” boy assaulted her, the complaint says. The boy “pushed her against a wall, and forcibly touched her genitals despite her protests, causing her both pain and fear,” the complaint says.

The complaint was filed by attorney Vernadette Broyles and Alliance Defending Freedom under the Title IX law. It says the school system created a hostile environment by “eliminating their expectation of privacy from the opposite sex.”

The federal Office for Civil Rights (OCR) said last month it would conduct an investigation.

“A school’s top priority is to protect the safety and bodily privacy of its students, period,” Broyles said. “Decatur School’s policies have created a stressful, unfair, and, as in this case, even unsafe environment—particularly for girls. We are grateful that OCR is investigating this tragedy, and we hope the agency helps this school district and others adopt…

Pro-Choice Man Roundhouse Kicks Female Pro-Life Activist in Toronto on Video; Compares Himself to MLK and Gandhi – Urban Christian News

A video of a pro-choice male hairdresser roundhouse kicking a pro-life activist in Toronto during a demonstration has gone viral online.

The incident occurred on Sept. 30 at Campaign Life Coalition’s demonstration in the Canadian city, Global News reported. Pro-life leader Marie-Claire Bissonnette explained that she and about 76 other pro-life protesters were taking part at an event called Life Chain.

“This guy comes up and I guess he sees what’s going on, and so he took out three markers and he drew on two of our signs, and so I shouted, ‘Protect your signs,’” said Bissonnette. “I guess that gave him the idea to start scribbling on people’s backs, so he scribbled on five people’s backs.”

Bissonnette said that she started recording the man on the phone, and the two started arguing about a hypothetical situation regarding whether a raped teen should have an abortion. The man is then seen delivering a roundhouse-kick to Bissonnette in the shoulder, which knocked her phone to the ground.

“I did not see it coming. I didn’t anticipate any violence,” Bissonnette said. “As soon as he kicked me, the only thing I could think of was to get the police, make sure someone calls the police.”

Bissonnette said that she intends on filing a complaint, but alleged that police seem reluctant to help.

“I told them what happened and showed them the video and they said, ‘What do you want us to do about it?’” the activist said. “Just the way they phrased things kind of leaned toward encouraging me not to press charges.”

The Human Defense Initiative identified the…

Open Heaven 9 October 2018 – Beware of Defeatist Prayers

Open Heaven 9 October 2018 Tuesday Daily Devotional by Pastor E A Adeboye – Beware of Defeatist Prayers

Topic: Beware of Defeatist Prayers (Open Heaven 9 October 2018)

Memorise: “Then said his wife unto him, Dost thou still retain thine integrity? curse God, and die.Job 2:9

Read: Judges 16:24-31(KJV)

24 And when the people saw him, they praised their god: for they said, Our god hath delivered into our hands our enemy, and the destroyer of our country, which slew many of us.

25 And it came to pass, when their hearts were merry, that they said, Call for Samson, that he may make us sport. And they called for Samson out of the prison house; and he made them sport: and they set him between the pillars.

26 And Samson said unto the lad that held him by the hand, Suffer me that I may feel the pillars whereupon the house standeth, that I may lean upon them.

27 Now the house was full of men and women; and all the lords of the Philistines were there; and there were upon the roof about three thousand men and women, that beheld while Samson made sport.

28 And Samson called unto the LORD, and said, O Lord GOD, remember me, I pray thee, and strengthen me, I pray thee, only this once, O God, that I may be at once avenged of the Philistines for my two eyes.

29 And Samson took hold of the two middle pillars upon which the house stood, and on which it was borne up, of the one with his right hand, and of the other with his left.

30 And Samson said, Let me die with the Philistines. And he bowed himself with all his might; and the house fell upon the lords, and upon all the people that were therein. So the dead which he slew at his death were more than they which he slew in his life.

31 Then his brethren and all the house of his father came down, and took him, and brought him up, and buried him between Zorah and Eshtaol in the buryingplace of Manoah his father. And he judged Israel twenty years.

Bible in One Year: Isaiah 45-47, Luke 3:23-4:13

Open Heaven 9 October 2018 Tuesday MESSAGE:

Prayer was established by God as a means of dialogue between Himself and His covenant people. Our Lord Jesus Christ engaged in prayer in His lifetime and also taught His disciples how to pray (Matthew 14:23, Matthew 6:9-13). As His disciples today, we pray with the assurance of His promise in Matthew 21:22, which says:

“And all things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive.”

The fact that our Lord engaged in all night prayer shows how significant prayer is (Luke 6:12). In Matthew 17:21, He revealed to us that some challenges in life may not be overcome without fervent prayers and fasting, God’s attitude and response to prayer differs based on the identity of the person praying. 1 Peter 3:12 says:

“For the eyes of the Lord are over the righteous, and his ears are open unto their prayers: but the face of the Lord is against them that do evil.”

Based on this verse of the scripture, only those who are in right standing with God should expect answers to their prayers. If you have not received the gift of righteousness which comes from being born again, I implore you to give your life to Jesus today. I pray that every request you make to God as from today shall be answered by fire in Jesus Name.

Despite the obvious power of prayer and the various examples of answered prayer in the Bible, certain circumstances threaten our very existence and shake the foundation of our faith, causing us to render defeatist prayer to God. A defeatist prayer is the kind of prayer made with an expectation of imminent failure, assumption of hopelessness and a resignation to fate. Defeatist prayers carry a belief that God cannot intervene in the situation at hand. May you never doubt the ability of God to save you in the time of trouble in Jesus’ Name. In Job 2:9, Job’s case got so bad that he was given a defeatist option of cursing God and choosing death. Similarly, after great exploits for God, followed by victories and celebrations, Elijah’s life was threatened by a wicked queen called Jezebel. He became so distressed that he prayed this defeatist prayer in 1 Kings 19:4:

“…It is enough; now, O LORD, take away my life; for I am not better than my fathers.”

In like manner, after the Lord departed from Samson, he lost everything, including his eyesight, and he began to grind corn for his enemies in captivity. This situation forced him to pray a defeatist prayer in Judges 16:30, saying “let me die with my enemies.” Irrespective of what you are passing through, I encourage you to never render a defeatist prayer to God. Although it might not be easy, remember that your faith is toughened when it passes through fire. Therefore, have faith in God and hold on to Him. Please don’t ever give up on God!

Open Heaven 9 October 2018 Tuesday Hymn 10: My Faith Looks Up To Thee.

1. My faith looks up to Thee,
Thou Lamb of Calvary,
Savior divine!
Now hear me while I pray,
Take all my guilt away,
Oh, let me from this day
Be wholly Thine!

2. May Thy rich grace impart
Strength to my fainting heart,
My zeal inspire!
As Thou hast died for me,
Oh, may my love to Thee
Pure, warm, and changeless be,
A living fire!

3. While life’s dark maze I tread,
And griefs around me spread,
Be Thou my guide;
Bid darkness turn to day,
Wipe sorrow’s tears away,
Nor let me ever stray
From Thee aside.

4. When ends life’s transient dream,
When death’s cold, sullen stream
Shall o’er me roll;
Blest Savior, then in love,
Fear and distrust remove;
Oh, bear me safe above,
A ransomed soul!
