Seeds of Destiny 8 October 2018 Devotional — Accessing Divine Direction

Topic: Accessing Divine Direction [Seeds of Destiny 8 October 2018 Devotional]

Scripture: I will stand upon my watch, and set me upon the tower, and will watch to see what he will say unto me…Habakkuk 2:1

Thought For The Day: Travelling without direction is ending without distinction.

Direction, according to Oxford Advanced Learner’s Dictionary, connotes instructions on how to reach a destination or about how to do something. It is the course which must be taken in order to reach a destination or to get something done. It is also the management or guidance of someone or something in achieving a progress.

Direction is knowing what to do in order to leave where you are. Direction is key to acceleration in life.

Divine direction is the direction that comes from God through the leading of the Spirit. It has been confirmed that Divine direction is one of the greatest assets in life. The worst thing that can happen to anyone is to travel fast in the wrong direction. Travelling without direction is ending without distinction. It is Divine direction that averts disasters in life. Divine direction eliminates destruction. Direction by God forbids distraction and guarantees destination in life.

Now, one way to access Divine direction is by prayer (Jeremiah 33:3). Prayer is a means of communicating with God. It is at the place of prayer that destinies are revealed and potentials are unveiled. Nothing shows a man the right way to follow like prayer.

At the place of prayer, the vision for your future becomes clear, the direction for your daily living is accessed and the revelation/wisdom you require for profitable living is unveiled.

Today, I prophesy unto you, the last time you missed your direction shall be the last forever, in Jesus’ Name.

Beloved, my counsel is, make up your mind to pray fervently; seek God’s direction in everything you do at the place of prayer (Philippians 4:6).

Remember This: Travelling without direction is ending without distinction.

Assignments:
1. Make up your mind not to take any step outside Divine direction or guidance.
2. Ask God for His help and direction at the place of prayer.

Prayer: O Lord, I ask for a clear revelation of Your blueprint for my life and destiny. Help me Lord not to miss my path in life, in Jesus’ Name.

Our Daily Bread 8 October 2018 Devotional – Our Singing Father

Topic: Our Singing Father [Our Daily Bread 8 October 2018 Devotional]

Read: Zephaniah 3:14–20, Bible in a Year: Isaiah 30–31; Philippians 4

The Lord your God is with you, the Mighty Warrior who saves. He will take great delight in you; in his love he will . . . rejoice over you with singing. Zephaniah 3:17

No one told me before my wife and I had children how important singing would be. My children are now six, eight, and ten. But all three had problems sleeping early on. Each night, my wife and I took turns rocking our little ones, praying they’d nod off quickly. I spent hundreds of hours rocking them, desperately crooning lullabies to (hopefully!) speed up the process. But as I sang over our children night after night, something amazing happened: It deepened my bond of love and delight for them in ways I had never dreamed.

Did you know Scripture describes our heavenly Father singing over His children too? Just as I sought to soothe my children with song, so Zephaniah concludes with a portrait of our heavenly Father singing over His people: “He will take great delight in you; in his love he will . . . rejoice over you with singing” (3:17).

Much of Zephaniah’s prophetic book warns of a coming time of judgment for those who’d rejected God. Yet that’s not where it ends. Zephaniah concludes not with judgment but with a description of God not only rescuing His people from all their suffering (vv. 19–20) but also tenderly loving and rejoicing over them with song (v. 17).

Our God is not only a “Mighty Warrior who saves” and restores (v. 17) but a loving Father who tenderly sings songs of love over us.

Prayer: Father, help us to embrace Your tender love and “hear” the songs You sing.

Our heavenly Father delights in His children like a parent singing to a newborn baby.

Andrew Wommack Devotional 8 October 2018 – Escape Condemnation

Topic: Escape Condemnation [Andrew Wommack Devotional 8 October 2018]

Matthew 26:2 “Ye know that after two days is the feast of the passover, and the Son of man is betrayed to be crucified.”

In Israel, crucifixion was a common sight. This practice was first mentioned in scripture as one used by the Egyptians (Gen. 40:19). Anyone hung upon a tree was accursed by God according to the Mosaic law (Dt. 21:22-23).

Failure to obey the law brought on the curse. Praise God that Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law by bearing the curse for us. Now, through Christ, we will never receive any curse from God even though we still disobey the law in some way. Justice was satisfied when Jesus died for the law that we broke, thus paying the prescribed penalty and bearing the curse.

There is no condemnation awaiting us from the law; for we died in Him.

A Christian who still walks in condemnation is being condemned by the devil or himself. It’s not God who condemns us (Rom. 8:34). It is the law that brought God’s adverse sentence against us.

When the government condemns a building it is declared unfit for use and must be destroyed. Likewise, when Satan condemns us, he makes us feel unfit for use and ready to be destroyed. Since the Christian is no longer under the law, he should no longer be condemned or feel unfit for use. We have been accepted by the Father through Jesus.

God convicts of sin but He doesn’t condemn (Rom. 8:34). Conviction is solely for our profit with no malice, while condemnation includes punishment. Satan is the one who condemns the Christian, but the Holy Spirit has given us the power to escape that condemnation.

Billy Graham Devotional 8 October 2018 — How to Love

Topic: How to Love [Billy Graham Devotional 8 October 2018]

These things I command you, that ye love one another. — John 15:17

How are we to love? We are to love as God loves us . . . we are to show acceptance and appreciation . . . [to] accept each other as God accepts us. Too many parents refuse to accept and appreciate their children for what they are. That is why a million American children ran away from home last year. A team of Yale researchers has concluded that the majority of these runaways were attempting to escape an unhappy family situation. They yearned to be appreciated.

The causes of delinquency, we are told, are broken homes, poverty, lack of recreational facilities, poor physical health, racism, working mothers, and so on . . . The experts never seem to mention the lack of love, or the lack of faith in God. Yet these are the two most important elements for an adolescent’s successful maturity.

How long has it been since you praised your children instead of criticizing them? David prayed for Solomon and daily praised him, and we are to praise our children daily. Praise your wife. I have found that praise goes a lot further than criticism. Everybody needs to be appreciated.

Prayer for the day: It is so easy to criticize those close to me; but Lord, give me Your unreserved love so that they may know how deeply I appreciate them.

Albert Mohler Talks the Most Pressing Issue Facing the Church; Marks 25 Years as SBTS President

(Photo: Facebook/Albert Mohler)President of the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky, Albert Mohler.

Southern Baptist Theological Seminary President Albert Mohler Jr. has marked his 25th anniversary in his position by warning about the most pressing issue facing the church.

“Among the many challenges the church will face in the present and coming generations, few will equal the challenge of maintaining a steadfast commitment to biblical Christianity in the midst of an increasingly hostile environment. Cultural hostility takes more than one form and can pose as seduction rather than as coercion. This challenge also includes our responsibility to transmit the Christian faith intact and in full integrity from generation to generation,” Mohler says in the October issue of Table Talk magazine.

He argued that a similar challenge once was faced in ancient Israel, and throughout every age of the church. The author said that especially when looking at Western Europe, the generational transfer of the faith can be seen as a difficult task.

“Recent research indicates that the rate of young Europeans with no religious identity has risen so quickly that biblical Christianity threatens to disappear in any institutional form from throughout much of Europe….

Should Christians Lift Hands in Worship? Pastors Weigh In

(Photo: Rocket Republic via Flicker)John Piper, founder of DesiringGod.org and chancellor of Bethlehem College & Seminary, speaks at the MLK50 Conference hosted by the Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission of the Southern Baptist Convention and The Gospel Coalition in Memphis, Tennessee, on April 5, 2018.

Should Christians raise their hands during worship services? The motivations behind the act are key to answering the question, two pastors have argued.

Lifting hands in worship makes some people uncomfortable and it should not be required of them in churches, but it does bring a particular spiritual freedom, John Piper says.

The Reformed theologian and former lead pastor of Bethlehem Baptist Church in St. Paul, Minnesota explained in an AskPastorJohn podcast episode earlier this week that during the 1970’s he sat in a chapel service beside a faculty member who during a prayer simply laid his hands, palms up, on his lap. Piper felt disgust seeing him do that at the time.

“I don’t remember what was going on in my soul at that time, but what I feel now is nothing but shame and remorse at such an arrogant and judgmental attitude.”

Approximately five years later while pastoring he had encouraged Bethlehem Baptist to do an all-night prayer meeting once or twice a year to…

Open Heaven 8 October 2018 – Offences

Open Heaven 8 October 2018 Monday Daily Devotional by Pastor E A Adeboye – Offences

Topic: Offences (Open Heaven 8 October 2018)

Memorise: “Woe unto the world because of offences! for it must needs be that offences come; but woe to that man by whom the offence cometh!Matthew 18:7

Read: Matthew 18:1-7 (KJV)

1 At the same time came the disciples unto Jesus, saying, Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?

2 And Jesus called a little child unto him, and set him in the midst of them,

3 And said, Verily I say unto you, Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven.

4 Whosoever therefore shall humble himself as this little child, the same is greatest in the kingdom of heaven.

5 And whoso shall receive one such little child in my name receiveth me.

6 But whoso shall offend one of these little ones which believe in me, it were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and that he were drowned in the depth of the sea.

7 Woe unto the world because of offences! for it must needs be that offences come; but woe to that man by whom the offence cometh!

Bible in One Year: Isaiah 43-44, Luke 3:7-22

Open Heaven 8 October 2018 Monday MESSAGE:

Our Lord Jesus Christ spoke in very strong terms against offences in today’s Bible reading. I therefore believe it is a wise thing for us to understand what they are and try to avoid them. Offence is a biblical term which refers to an obstruction lying on a pathway over which one may stumble. It is anything that hinders or tends to trip one up in the course of living a righteous life. A hindrance in this regard often stands for temptations to sin. One source of offences that was mentioned by the Lord in His sermon s is the cravings of our body (Matthew 18:8-9). Another source which He also mentioned are the people we interact with on a day to day basis (Matthew 18:7, Romans 16:17). The Lord made it clear that a life without any obstacle, hindrance, stumbling block or temptation is impossible, but that anyone who places obstacle in other people’s path or who leads others to sin is already cursed by God (Luke 17:1). Jesus declared that great sorrow awaits them, so that it would have been better if they were not born. All those who are behind your problems in life shall run into the wrath of the Almighty God in Jesus’ Name.

Some people have mastered the art of setting traps for others, and they themselves have become a living trap, supporting anything that ensnares or hinders people from pleasing God and deriving satisfaction from causing people to stumble. They ensnare unsuspecting and ignorant people, and mislead innocent and immature Christians into fatal errors that lead to hell. Greedy for money, power and fame, they consciously build an army of loyal followers in order to exert their influence on them. They falsely appear as saints and subtly present another “gospel” that is completely different from the gospel of Jesus Christ. Their message is built on human wisdom and understanding but carefully wrapped in a garb of spiritually. They have a warped understanding of the Bible, which they present as new revelations from God or “prophetic preaching”. Their message of easy-going Christianity has led many people into worldly lifestyles and complacency in holy living. Through their activities, many have missed the high mark of God’s calling. You will notice that some of these offenders are experienced pastors who are knowledgeable in the things of God but deliberately mislead others. Therefore, be warned about the existence of such characters within the Church of God. Watch carefully to prevent yourself from falling into their trap. I pray that the rod of the wicked one shall not fall upon your portion, and you will not be led away from the presence of God in Jesus’ Name.

Open Heaven 8 October 2018 Monday Prayer Point:

Father, please grant me grace to perceive offences and live above them in Jesus’ Name.

Open Heaven 8 October 2018 Monday Hymn 15: Nearer My God To Thee

1. Nearer, my God, to Thee, nearer to Thee!
E’en though it be a cross that raiseth me,
Still all my song shall be, nearer, my God, to Thee. Nearer to Thee!

2. Though like the wanderer, the sun gone down,
Darkness comes over me, my rest a stone;
Yet in my dreams I’d be nearer, my God, to Thee. Nearer to Thee!

3. There let me see the sight, an open Heaven;
All that Thou sendest me, in mercy given;
Angels to beckon me nearer, my God, to Thee. Nearer to Thee!

4. Then, with my waking thoughts bright with Thy praise,
Out of my stony griefs Bethel I’ll raise;
So by my woes to be nearer, my God, to Thee. Nearer to Thee!

History, Wine and the Natural Beauty of Waterfalls Await in Niagara Falls USA

(Photo by Dennis Lennox)The wondrous Niagara Falls.

Niagara Falls, which straddles the international border between Canada and the United States, was one of the first mass-market tourism destinations and remains popular with over 20 million yearly visitors between the two sides.

Most who come to see the waterfalls don’t stay in Niagara Falls, New York. Instead, they go to Niagara Falls, Ontario, which for decades has lured tourists with more attractions, more hotels and more restaurants.

As a result, the American side can feel a bit like a ghost town even during peak tourism season.

I recently returned from a 48-hour visit and will admit that I was pleasantly surprised, not least because the thinner crowds gave me better access to Niagara Falls.

Yes, the dilapidation that comes after a city loses over half of its population since 1960 is everywhere. City Hall, desperate to stop the decline, thought a gimmick offering student loan repayment would entice millenials to Niagara Falls. Empty storefronts are everywhere. Downtown could be a case study in 1970s and 1980s city planning gone wrong. The architecture of newer buildings is inconsistent, if not hideous. Good restaurants are few and far between, unless TGI Fridays and Rainforest Cafe are your thing.

None of that is to say the Canadian side is better. Yes, it has more hotels, but Niagara Falls, Ontario, is grossly overdeveloped to the point where high-rise towers ruin what would be a pristine vista. Around the hotels sits a dumpy tourist trap.

I made Niagara Falls U.S.A. my base to discover the area’s rich history, somewhat unknown wine and…

Christians Flock to Sunday Services in Quake-, Tsunami-Stricken Palu, Indonesia, as Officials Fear 5,000 People Remain Unaccounted For

Christians dressed in their tidiest clothes flocked to Sunday sermons in the earthquake and tsunami damaged Indonesian city of Palu, seeking answers as the death toll from the twin disasters breached 1,700 and officials said they feared more than 5,000 others could be missing.

Indonesia’s disaster agency said the number of dead had climbed to 1,763, mostly in Palu. Agency spokesman Sutopo Purwo Nugroho said many more people could be buried, especially in the Palu neighborhoods of Petobo and Balaroa, where more than 3,000 homes were damaged or sucked into deep mud when the Sept. 28 quake caused loose soil to liquefy.

“Based on reports from village chiefs in Balaroa and Petobo, some 5,000 people have not been found. Our workers on the ground are trying to confirm this,” he said at a news briefing in Jakarta, Indonesia’s capital.

Nugroho said that efforts to retrieve decomposed bodies in deep, soft mud were getting tougher and that some people may have fled or been rescued and evacuated. More than 8,000 either injured or vulnerable residents have been flown or shipped out of Palu, while others could have left by land, he said.

Officially, Nugroho said only 265 people are confirmed missing and 152 others still…
