Priests encourage faithful to vote against changing definition of marriage

The conservative Coalition for Family initiated a referendum that called on Romanians to cast a ballot on whether they supported a constitutional amendment that would make it harder to legalise same-sex marriage.

They were backed by the influential Romanian Orthodox Church.

The south eastern European country’s two-day vote requires a 30 per cent turnout to be valid.

The country’s Central Electoral Bureau said 5.72 per cent of voters had cast a ballot on Saturday.

The proposed amendment would change the definition of family in Romania’s Constitution to make marriage a union between a man and a woman instead of between “spouses”.

AP Photo/Andreea Alexandru

Same-sex marriage is already illegal in Romania and the country does not recognise civil unions. While the referendum will not change that, it could potentially clarify the language in the constitution.

Article 48 states that the family “is founded on the freely consented marriage of the spouses”. A Yes vote would change that to “marriage between a man and a woman”.

Christian charity warns next stage of Universal Credit will increase foodbank use

The Christian food bank charity’s warning comes as the Department for Work and Pensions finalises its plans for the next stage of Universal Credit to take to Parliament later this month.

The charity claims the next stage will further increase food bank use.

Emma Revie, chief executive of The Trussell Trust, explained: “We created our benefits system in this country to free people from poverty, not lock them into it.

“As we look at the current plans for the next stage of Universal Credit, we’re really worried that our network of food banks could see a big increase in people needing help.

“Leaving three million people to wait at least five weeks for a first payment – especially when we have already decided they need support through our old benefits or tax credits system – is just not good enough.”

The Trussell Trust recommends the Government moves people onto Universal Credit – rather than leaving people to make their own claim – to ensure there is no gap between old and new benefits payments.

The report also outlines a number of other proposals including expanding Universal support.

“Now is the time for our Government to take responsibility for moving people currently on the old system over, and to ensure no one faces a gap in payments when that moves happens,” Revie added.

Pray for The Well Baptist Church

Location: Fort Wayne, Indiana

Pastor: Carl Esque

Weekly Worship: 5:00 PM, Eastern, on Saturdays

Fast Facts: The Well is a three-year-old Church plant. God led Pastor Esque to start this work because he ran across so many people who were out of church because they were hurt by church, stopped going, and no one was reaching out to them. Since The Well began, 19 people have come to faith in Christ. There is a good core group of 20-25 who come faithfully and the church is currently sharing a building with a Pilgrim Holiness congregation.

Their most effective outreach project has always been a trunk or treat event. Because the church meets on Saturday evenings, they can have the event on Saturday and typically a good number of people stay for corporate worship afterwords. Please pray for this year’s event happening later this month. Also, pray for the finances. Being a church plant means lean finances and every little bit helps.

“Pray for . . .” is the Sunday blog series at ThomRainer.com. We encourage you to pray for these churches noted every Sunday. Please feel free to comment that you are praying as well.

If you would like to have your church featured in the “Pray for…” series, fill out this information form..

Einstein’s ‘God Letter’ expected to sell for $1m at auction

The letter, penned in Germen in 1954 by the acclaimed physicist to philosopher Eric Gutkind, is commonly referred to as the “God letter”.

The Jewish Nobel Prize-winning scientist wrote: “The word God is for me is nothing more than the expression and product of human weaknesses, the Bible a collection of honorable, but still primitive legends which are nevertheless pretty childish.

“No interpretation, no matter how subtle, can (for me) change this.”

Einstein wrote to Gutkind after reading his book Choose Life: The Biblical Call to Revolt.

“For me the Jewish religion like all other religions is an incarnation of the most childish superstition,” Einstein continued in his letter.

“And the Jewish people to whom I gladly belong, and whose thinking I have a deep affinity for, have no different quality for me than all other people.

“As far as my experience goes, they are also no better than other human groups, although they are protected from the worst cancers by a lack of power. Otherwise I cannot see anything ‘chosen’ about them.”

The auction house estimates it could be sold for at least $1 million.

Asia Bibi’s husband says she’ll ‘never convert to Islam’ on eve of appeal

Ms Bibi has already spent nine years in jail after being accused of breaching the country’s strict blasphemy laws by insulting the Prophet Muhammad, following a row with Muslim women.

She was sentenced to death by hanging in 2010.

If her appeal fails, she will become the first woman to be executed for blasphemy in Pakistan.

Wilson Chowdhry, chairman of the The British Pakistani Christian Association (BPCA), said in a statement: “The family of Asia have said that if Asia is exonerated they will flee to one of the many countries who have offered them asylum.”

Ms Bibi’s husband, Ashiq Masih and their eldest daughter Eisham spoke recently at an event organized by Aid to the Church in Need at the Catholic Chaplaincy of Lancaster University.

He said his wife would “never convert to Islam”.

“She is psychologically, physically and spiritually strong,” he added.

“Having a very strong faith, she is ready and willing to die for Christ.”

There have been growing concerns about Ms Bibi’s health.

Last month Norren Barkat, leader of Masih Overseas – a Pakistani-Christian humanitarian group in Switzerland, described what a journalist had told her about Ms Bibi’s wellbeing.

“I am in touch with a Pakistani journalist who has met Asia and has described symptoms relating to her mental health such as memory loss and confusion, which I as an…

Pope allows study of Vatican archives into McCarrick scandal

The Vatican issued a statement saying it was aware that such an investigation may produce evidence “that choices were taken that would not be consonant with a contemporary approach to such issues”.

However, it said the Vatican would “follow the path of truth wherever it may lead”.

The statement did not address allegations that Francis himself knew of sexual misconduct allegations against now ex-Cardinal Theodore McCarrick in 2013 and rehabilitated him anyway.

Francis has said he would not say a word about those allegations.

Robert Franklin/South Bend Tribune via AP, Pool, File

The Vatican knew as early as 2000 that seminarians reported McCarrick pressured them to sleep with him.

MFM Daily Devotional 7 October 2018 – Turning Curses Into Blessings

MFM Mountain Top Life Daily Devotional 7 October 2018 By Dr. D.K Olukoya – Turning Curses Into Blessings

TOPIC: Turning Curses Into Blessings (Mountain Of Fire and Miracle Ministries, MFM Daily Devotional 7 October 2018)

FIRE SCRIPTURE: Numbers 24:10-14

MEMORY VERSE: “Surely there is no enchantment against Jacob, neither is there any divination against Israel: according to this time it shall be said of Jacob and of Israel, What hath God wrought!”Numbers 23:23

The MESSAGE:

In the book of Numbers, king of Moab (Balak) sent for Balaam, a prophet of God, for a satanic assignment against the Jews. God was angry that Balaam honoured the invitation. An angel of God with a sword stood on Balaam’s way to stop him and his donkey at three different times, but he insisted to embark on the journey. Balaam was later allowed to go by the angel but only to say that which was from the Lord. The intention of Balak and Balaam was to curse the Jews, but God intervened and asked Balaam the prophet to change the words of curses into words of blessings. Beloved, Balaam was to curse but the Lord changed it to blessing. Today, the power to turn all curses against you to blessings shall locate you, in the name of Jesus. There is the power that changes curses to blessings, and it works in a miraculous way. It can make evil and negative intention to backfire and turn to your blessings; it can make negative statements to backfire and turn to your blessings. It can disgrace those who are assigned to curse you after the order of Balak. It can disannul every evil gang up against you; it can even convert all curses, insults, abuses, negative words against you to fertilisers that will build you up for testimonies. It can convert all evil handwritings in satanic coven, witchcraft cauldron to your blessings, and it can convert evil imaginations against you to blessings.

You are a spiritual Israelite. God has blessed you and no curse shall work against you anymore. A curse is an evil decree made to put someone in bondage. It is a spiritual entity backed up with demons. For curses, be it generational, foundational, self-imposed, hidden, open, parental, satanic, family or prophetic NOT to work, it must be broken and converted to blessings. Are you being challenged by chronic poverty, late marriage, consistent attack, mental illness, sickness that defile medication, chain of problems, accidents etc? Are there some curses that you have not been able to break and convert to blessings? You need to rise up today and do justice to them. Once you are sure you are a spiritual Israelite (i.e you are born again), then ask for power that breaks and converts curses to blessing. Cast out all demons behind the curses, break the curses and convert them to blessing.

MOTIVATIONAL QUOTE:
YOUR WORDS WILL DECIDE WHETHER YOU WILL LIVE IN VICTORY OR IN DEFEAT.

PROPHETIC WORD:
All negative words spoken against you are returning to the senders.

PRAYER POINTS:
MORNING
1. Father, I thank You because You have the power to do all things, in the name of Jesus.
2. My Joseph, become too hot for the enemy to handle, in the name of Jesus.
3. Every prison yard holding my Joseph captive, break by fire, in the name of Jesus.

EVENING
4. My Joseph, come out of the prison, in the name of Jesus.
5. Most High God, convert me to Your sharp battle-axe, in the name of Jesus.
6. Power to dominate and rule over in all my environment, come upon my life, in the name of Jesus.
7. Father Lord, give me the revelation that will change my story, in the name of Jesus.

Making Quality Decisions (Part 4) By Pastor Faith Oyedepo

Making Quality Decisions (Part 4) by Pastor Faith Oyedepo

Topic: Making Quality Decisions (Part 4)

Dear Reader,

From past teachings, we saw the importance of choice making. We went on to study the character of people in the Bible who made the right choices in their lives. Last week, we also saw how to make the right choices. This week, I will take further look at: The Platform for Your Choice.

From my studies I discovered that the basis upon which people make their choice of life partners is tri-dimensional: physical, soulish (emotional, intellectual) and spiritual. Once they sense a bonding or unity in any or all these three areas with someone, they believe that they have located their spouse.

Unity of the flesh

Some people get into marriage when they have a unity of the flesh or unity in the physical with someone. For example, you see a young man or woman and say, “Oh, he is handsome,” or “Oh she is beautiful. Look at her figure, look at her complexion.” All that has attracted you is simply the physical appearance. While nothing is wrong with this type of attraction, it is a wrong premise to contract a relationship that will last a lifetime.

What many people tend to forget is that people change over time. The man who is broad shouldered, flat tummy and muscular today, can become potbellied, flabby and bald tomorrow. So, if your relationship is only based on the physical appearance of a person, your love will fade as his or her looks change.

Unity of the soul

The second platform upon which many people select a mate is the soulish, which includes the emotions, intellect and will. Perhaps you find a woman who reasons like you do. Both of you share the same interests in music, dance, drama etc. So you think, “Ah, maybe she can make a good wife.”

On the other hand, you meet someone and you look at the person and you ‘fall’ head-over-heels in ‘love’. You develop strong feelings for the person, and decide to get married. However, basing a relationship on unity of the soul is risky because likes and dislikes change. The things you like doing today, with time, you may find childish or you simply lose interest in them.

Then again, emotions are fickle. That’s why you hear of people who fell in love but have now fallen out of love! Therefore, although it is essential to agree in your likes and dislikes, have similar interests, be emotionally attached to one another, these cannot be the main reason why you contract a marriage.

Unity of the Spirit

The most important unity that must exist between a man a woman, and which will determine how much the marriage flourishes is that of the Spirit. This can only happen between two born-again Christians, because outside Christ, all men are spiritually dead. When an individual is said to be born-again, it is his spirit which died in Adam that has now been re-born.

When there is unity of the Spirit, there is an agreement in fundamental spiritual matters. God’s Word says: Therefore leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ, let us go unto perfection; not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works, and of faith toward God. Of the doctrine of baptisms, and of laying on of hands, and of resurrection of the dead, and of eternal judgement. And this will we do, if God permit (Hebrews 6:1-3). Find out if you agree on certain doctrinal issues.

  • In essence, do you agree on repentance from dead works?
  • Do you agree on the importance of faith towards God?
  • Do you agree on the doctrine of Baptism of the Holy Ghost and immersion by water)?
  • Do you both believe in the laying on of hands (either for impartation or healing)?
  • Do you both believe in the resurrection of the dead (or is he a Sadducee?)
  • Do you both believe in eternal judgment?
  • Are you heading in the same direction? Do you have a similar calling or vision?
  • Are there other doctrines, which his or her church subscribes to? Do you know them and are you comfortable with them?

Because the most important of the dimensions is spiritual, I have found that even when the physical and soulish are not 100%, once the spiritual is intact, the others also find fulfillment. This is why it becomes very necessary for you to surrender your life to Christ. This is by confessing your sins and accepting Jesus as your Saviour and Lord. Peradventure, you are not born again and you want to accept Jesus as your Lord and personal Saviour, then say this prayer in faith: Dear Lord Jesus Christ, I come to You today. I am a sinner. Forgive me my sins and cleanse me with Your Blood. I accept You as my Lord and personal Saviour. Make me a child of God today. Thank You for delivering me from sin and satan to serve the living God and thank You for accepting me into Your Kingdom.

Congratulations! If you prayed this simple prayer of faith with me, you are now born again and a child of God. He loves you and will never leave you. Read your Bible daily, obey God’s Word and seek Christian fellowship (John 14:21).

Memorise: If any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy; for the temple of God is holy, which temple ye are. – 1 Corinthians 3:17

Read: Matthew 1:17-19 (KJV)

Bible In One Year: Isaiah 37-38, Philippians 3

MESSAGE:

The genealogy listed in our Bible reading included even those who were carried away in exile into Babylon and those born in the land of captivity did not exempt them from the list; you should never be tired or discouraged during your trying moments.

Also, never ever think of lowering your standards or giving out your body in exchange for something you want just because the times are hard. Keep yourself pure no matter what. Your body isn’t just yours at all, it belongs to the Most High who sees all at all times. He is watching how you use your body, so you should only use it to glorify Him. using your body to glorify Him improves your body and its value, whereas using your body otherwise makes it to deteriorate. Be wise.

Key Point: The choice you make today determines the events of tomorrow. Watch your choices.

Hymn 7:

1. I am Thine 0 Lord, I have heard Thy voice,
And it told Thy love to me;
But I long to rise in the arms of faith
And be closer drawn to Thee.

Draw me nearer, nearer blessed Lord
To the cross where Thou hast died;
Draw me nearer, nearer, nearer blessed Lord,
To Thy precious, bleeding side.

2. Consecrate me now to Thy service, Lord,
By the pow’r of grace divine;
Let my soul look up with a steadfast hope,
And my will be lost in Thine.

3. Oh, the pure delight of a single hour
That before Thy throne I spend,
When I kneel in prayer, and with Thee, my God
I commune as friend with friend!

4. There are depths of love that I cannot know
Till I cross the narrow sea;
There are heights of joy that I may not reach
Till I rest in peace with Thee.

DCLM Daily Manna 7 October 2018 – The Sanctity of Marriage

Topic: The Sanctity of Marriage [DCLM Daily Manna 7 October 2018 Daily Devotional by Pastor William Folorunso Kumuyi]

Text: Genesis 24:2-67 (KJV)

Key Verse “And Isaac brought her into his mother Sarah’s tent, and took Rebekah, and she became his wife; and he loved her: and Isaac was comforted after his mother’s death…” (Genesis 24:67).

MESSAGE:

The arrival of Rebekah as a wife to Isaac was a wonderful gift from God after three years of loneliness due to the death of his mother, Sarah.

Abraham’s chief servant, Eliezar had gone on a long journey to Mesopotamia to seek a wife for his master’s son, Isaac. Abraham had instructed him under oath to go to his family house to get a wife for his son. Eliezer obeyed and went. Helped by God after a brief prayer, he was able to come back with Rebekah as Isaac’s bride. Isaac was returning from the field where he had gone for meditation when he sighted the coming camels and hoped his wife would be in that approaching company. He was right. On enquiry, Rebekah had been told it was Isaac she had just sighted and had to cover herself with a veil as was the custom for new brides.

God instituted marriage as a holy union between a man and a woman. One man, one woman. The purposes are for procreation, partnership, fellowship and pleasure. For the godly Church, the marriage institution is a type of the union between Christ and His Bride, the Church. It is a sacred union. Similarly Christian marriage remains the bedrock of a healthy society.

Unfortunately, in some countries today, this sacred institution has been desecrated. They practice sinful acts like same-sex marriages. But God’s truth and warnings remain unchanging in the face of man’s waywardness. Knowing that life is not only about man’s brief stay on earth, it is only foolish for anyone to sell himself to the dictates of the devil to the detriment of his eternal well-being. “Wisdom crieth without; she uttereth her voice in the street” (Proverbs 1:20). We must hear the voice of wisdom and live a godly life as it pleases the Lord.

Thought For The Day: Marriage is honourable in all and the bed undefiled.
