Seven Police Officers Gunned Down, One Killed, Franklin Graham Calls for Prayer

Seven Police Officers Gunned Down, One Killed, Franklin Graham Calls for Prayer

Seven South Carolina police officers were shot in the line of duty on Wednesday when a Vietnam veteran opened fire while they were attempting to serve him a warrant.

The suspect, 74-year-old Frederick Hopkins, is now in custody. Hopkin’s wounded six officers and killed one, 52-year-old Sergeant Terrence Carraway.

When officers arrived at Hopkin’s home on Wednesday, he reportedly barricaded himself inside his home before he opened fire on the officers.

The standoff lasted for two hours, and CBN reports that it was so dangerous that officers had to use bullet-proof vehicles to rescue the wounded.

Florence County Sheriff Kenney Boone said at a press conference, “Officers went there unknowing the firepower the suspect had.”

“Fire was being shot all over. The way this suspect was positioned, his view of fire was several hundred yards. So he had an advantage,” Boone told reporters. “The officers couldn’t get to the ones who were down.”

Authorities have found that Hopkins, a disabled veteran and disbarred lawyer, has several charges on his record, including one for disorderly conduct.

In the wake of this tragedy, evangelist Franklin Graham has taken to Facebook to invite people to pray with him for the victims and families.

Graham wrote, “Would you join me in praying for the six law enforcement officers who were wounded and for the…

As divisiveness replaces diplomacy, is there a way forward?

The FBI investigation found “no hint” of sexual misconduct by Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh, according to Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley. The committee’s ranking member, Sen. Dianne Feinstein, criticized the probe as incomplete, claiming that “the most notable part of this report is what’s not in it.”

And so, the divisiveness that passes for diplomacy in Washington continues.

A terrible cartoon and combative tweet

Every generation probably thinks its challenges are unprecedented.

Americans are not facing the threat of global Nazism or nuclear annihilation at the hands of the Soviet Union. ISIS is on the retreat and jihadism seems less a threat, at least for now. The Great Recession was ten years ago and the foreseeable economic future is encouraging, according to the Federal Reserve chairman.

But there is something about this moment that is deeply unsettling, at least to me.

When political cartoonists use a Supreme Court nominee’s ten-year-old daughter to malign him (I won’t link to the disgusting cartoon in question), that seems a new low.

Ian Millhiser, justice editor at ThinkProgress, recently tweeted: “Tell me again why we shouldn’t confront Republicans where they eat, where they sleep, and where they work until they stop being complicit in the destruction of our democracy.” His tweet generated 15,861 likes.

Avatars in a divided culture

Perhaps it’s the deeply conflicted dilemma of the moment: Do we side with someone who claims to have survived terrible sexual abuse or with someone whose character has been attacked without apparent corroboration? A Washington Post columnist notes that Judge Kavanaugh and Dr. Ford “have become avatars, vectors through which Americans across the country see themselves and each other.”

But I think something more fundamental is at work here. As I observed yesterday, the two “sides” of our political divide are both convinced theirs is the only right vision…

Salvation Army helping rescued man who ‘lived in shed for 40 years’

Staff say the 58 year old, who was found at a residential site north of Carlisle during an early morning raid on Wednesday, underwent a “horrendous ordeal”.

Kathy Betteridge, the director of anti-trafficking and modern slavery from the Christian movement, said: “This is a truly horrific and shocking case.

“We will work to provide hope for this man.”

The individual will be offered support such as safe accommodation and counselling – in addition to financial, medical and legal support.

The potential modern slavery victim received a medical examination following the shed search by officers at the Gangmasters and Labour Abuse Authority (GLAA).

The GLAA said: “The operation has been supported by specialist officers from the National Crime Agency, the Cumbria Housing Department who are investigating possible health and safety breaches, and officers from Cumbria Police.”

GLAA/PA Wire

An investigation is underway. A 79 year old man has been arrested on suspicion of modern slavery offences.

The GLAA added: “Modern slavery exists in a whole range of forms across the UK.

“If you suspect someone is being exploited or abused, please do not hesitate to get in contact with us.

“Your call could be the difference between exploitation continuing and worsening or a victim being rescued and given the support that they desperately need.”

You can report on…

Black Mirror ‘immortal digital soul’ could become reality, leading atheist tells Premier

Daniel C Dennett, a professor of philosophy at Tufts University, USA and leading naturalist voice in the philosophy of mind, has suggested that in the future humans could gain an immortal soul and be able to upload information from our minds to a digital format, similar to the storylines of popular Netflix series, Black Mirror which envisaged human minds being uploaded to computer systems where they can live forever in ‘digital heaven’.

The debate, released today, focuses on whether atheistic naturalism or Christian theism better explains the unique mysteries and questions that human consciousness will pose.

It has been released as part of The Big Conversation series and hosted by Premier Christian Radio presenter, Justin Brierley.

The debate pitched Dennett, who has authored books such as ‘Breaking the Spell: Religion As A Natural Phenomenon’ against Keith Ward, British philosopher and former Regius Professor of Divinity at Oxford University who is also an ordained priest in the Church of England.

Dennett argues: “One of the things we know about robots that makes them profoundly unlike moral agents, is that they are potentially immortal because you can download all the software, back them up and reboot them.

“If the information in my brain were perfectly encoded, and this brain [I have currently] died, it could be uploaded in digital format and I…

Church to host Russian-themed concert in city struck by nerve agent attack

The event – named after the James Bond tale about a secret Russian crime organisation – is promoted by posters emblazoned with the country’s flag and a big love heart.

Featuring classical music from Russian composers, the performance takes place in St Martin’s Church, Salisbury, on 13th October – just months after the city was struck by the nerve agent attack.

The concert will be held less than two miles from the home of ex-spy Sergei Skripal and not far from the bench where he and his daughter Yulia collapsed in March.

A poster advertising the event was found on Thursday displayed in a car park just metres from Salisbury Cathedral – the spire of which suspects Alexander Petrov and Ruslan Boshirov famously praised while denying any involvement in the attack. During a television interview they instead claimed they were tourists.

Gill Bolton, one of the organisers and performers, said she was “not best pleased” with the poster design, admitting it was a bit “off putting” but that no-one had complained.

PA

She said the programme of concerts for the forthcoming season was planned about a year in advance and was not in response to recent events, adding: “It’s not really anything to do with the Skripals and that sort of thing.”

The design was created by someone who did not live in the area but who took inspiration from the James…

Police apologise to Bath street preacher threatened with arrest

The Avon and Somerset force has conceded Dale McAlpine did nothing wrong and he should not have been told to move on.

Sergeant Jonathan Raisey said: “Instead of dispersing your group, I would have expected that my officers would have remained at the location to protect the right of your client’s group to free speech.”

Mr McAlpine and a group of other evangelists were telling people in central Bath about Jesus Christ on 25th June 2018 when they encountered angry members of the public.

Arriving on the scene in two police cars with blue lights flashing, officers issued a dispersal notice which forced the group to leave the area. One claimed the preachers were committing a “hate crime”.

With the support of the Christian Institute campaign group, Mr McAlpine mounted a complaint which has now prompted the apology.

Director of the Institute, Colin Hart said: “We don’t want dispersal notices to be similarly misused. Vigilance is needed.

“Avon and Somerset Police’s response to the complaint underlines the freedom of Christians to preach about Jesus on our streets.”

The force says all police staff have been contacted “to ensure that they understand the importance of freedom of expression”.

Colin Hart from the Christian Institute added: “Christians have the freedom to preach on the streets.

“That right was hard won down the…

Joyce Meyer Devotional 5 October 2018 — Excuses, Excuses

Topic: Excuses, Excuses [Joyce Meyer Devotional 5 October 2018]

And so, from the day we heard, we have not ceased to pray for you, asking that you may be filled with the knowledge of his will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding, so as to walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to him: bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God. Colossians 1:9-10

Moses made excuses when God called him to service. He said he wasn’t eloquent enough and could not speak (see Exodus 4:10).

Felix made excuses when Paul was speaking to him about righteousness and self-control. He essentially said, “Right now is an inconvenient time. Can you come back later?” (see Acts 24:25).

When God invites people into relationship with Him, many people come up with excuses when the truth is, they simply don’t want to make the sacrifices required to follow Him. Even among those who are believers in Jesus, we still hear ample excuses for not serving Him fully.

It is time to deal with excuses and start speaking truth. There is one truth none of us will be able to avoid: The day will come when every person will stand before God and give an account of his or her life (see Romans 14:12). On that day, there will be no excuses!

Prayer Starter: Father, I want to give you my whole heart and let You in every area of my life. Help me today to seek You in a greater way than ever before. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

MFM Daily Devotional 5 October 2018 – Divine Internal Cleansing

MFM Mountain Top Life Daily Devotional 5 October 2018 By Dr. D.K Olukoya – Divine Internal Cleansing

TOPIC: Changing The Unfit Garments (Mountain Of Fire and Miracle Ministries, MFM Daily Devotional 5 October 2018)

FIRE SCRIPTURE: Matthew 13:24-30

MEMORY VERSE: “But upon mount Zion shall be deliverance, and there shall be holiness; and the house of Jacob shall possess their possessions.Obadiah 1:17

The MESSAGE:

A sick person or an internally afflicted person can never be properly positioned unless something is done. A sick person is a poor person. In fact, an internally afflicted person is a sorrowful person and may find it difficult to fulfill destiny. The person might be oppressed, possessed and even obsessed. That is, he or she might be harbouring demons with different manifestations. Other manifestations include: moodiness, bewitchment, abnormal behaviour, madness, foolishness, etc. If one is so afflicted, one may need, in medical terms, surgery. Surgery is the art of treating diseases, injuries or deformities by operative (operation) procedures in which a doctor cuts into someone’s body in order to repair or remove damaged or diseased parts or the removal of strange things in the body. This is meant to sanitise such people that are internally sick.

Jesus knew this, and He started surgery, which medics had to copy from. But spiritually, surgery does not involve opening of the body physically. Jesus carried out surgeries such as removal of demons, correction of internal problems without opening anyone’s body. This is called divine internal cleansing. Internal dirtiness comes in while men sleep (Matthew 13:25). It comes through inheritance and it can be acquired. A man got HIV through injection of blood into his body in a dream. He never slept with any other woman and his wife tested negative. This was mysterious. There are consequences of internal dirtiness, such as low sperm count, barreness, fibroids, miscarriages, stroke, High Blood Pressure, deaf and dumb spirit, sin, lust, drunkenness, hatred, poverty, discomfort, bad luck and death. King Hezekiah was internally dirty and was to die, but after prayers, he was cleansed.

A woman with goitre attended one of our programmes at the international headquarters and left the service healed and cleansed. Beloved, you need internal cleansing for you to be repositioned. You may not feel physical pains, but there are things that might be inside of you that are causing poverty, career failure, business failure, misbehaviours, etc that you need to deal with today. Jesus is waiting for your prayers to carry out internal surgery on you to be properly repositioned and begin to do what you could not do before. I pray you receive your divine cleansing now, in the name of Jesus.

MOTIVATIONAL QUOTE:
BAD SPIRITS HAVE NO POWER TO BRING YOU TO DESTRUCTION OR TO POSSESS YOU UNLESS THEY FIND AN AREA IN YOUR LIFE THAT IS NOT YIELDED TO GOD.

PROPHETIC WORD:
The blood of Jesus shall flow into your spirit, soul and body and your health shall be restored.

PRAYER POINTS:

MORNING
1. Father, I thank You because of Your name, Jehovah Rapha, in the name of Jesus.
2. Agenda of infirmity in my life, die, in the name of Jesus.
3. Yoke breaker, Jesus Christ, arise break my yoke now, in the name of Jesus.

EVENING
4. Every internal affliction and oppression in my body, die, in the name of Jesus.
5. Organs of my body, hear the word of the Lord, reject the voice of the grave, in the name of Jesus.
6. Damage done to my body by infirmities, be repaired by the blood of Jesus, in the name of Jesus.
7. Operating theatre of God, admit me and let surgeon angels from heaven begin to operate on me, in the name of Jesus.

Teens Open Heavens 5 October 2018 – Have Your Way, Lord

Topic: Have Your Way, Lord [Teens Open Heavens 5 October 2018]

Memorise: But our God is in the heavens: He hath done whatsoever He hath pleased. Psalm 115:3

Read: Isaiah 55:8-9 (KJV)

Bible In One Year: Isaiah 31-33, Philippians 1

MESSAGE:

A usual hindrance to miracles is having a preconceived idea of how it will come. In 2 Kings 5:11-12, Naaman had already concluded how he would get his miracle. He had forgotten that the miracle will come from God and not him. According to Psalm 115:3, God does as He pleases.

I have observed that in making their requests known to God, people also dictate the ways in which they want their request to come. In most cases, it is as a result of pride. God does not answer your requests to fatten your pride or ego, but to take the glory, let God have His way, leave Him to bring you your requests whatever way He wants.

Prayer Point: Father, please have your way in my life. I believe that your way and timing for answers to my requests are in my best interest

Hymn 7:

1. I am Thine 0 Lord, I have heard Thy voice,
And it told Thy love to me;
But I long to rise in the arms of faith
And be closer drawn to Thee.

Draw me nearer, nearer blessed Lord
To the cross where Thou hast died;
Draw me nearer, nearer, nearer blessed Lord,
To Thy precious, bleeding side.

2. Consecrate me now to Thy service, Lord,
By the pow’r of grace divine;
Let my soul look up with a steadfast hope,
And my will be lost in Thine.

3. Oh, the pure delight of a single hour
That before Thy throne I spend,
When I kneel in prayer, and with Thee, my God
I commune as friend with friend!

4. There are depths of love that I cannot know
Till I cross the narrow sea;
There are heights of joy that I may not reach
Till I rest in peace with Thee.

Daily Devotional for Teen’s guide was written by Pastor E.A. Adeboye, the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, one of the largest evangelical church in the world and also the President of Christ the Redeemer’s Ministries.
