Open Heavens 2 October 2018 Tuesday MESSAGE:

Hopelessness or despair is a state marked by great difficulty, doubt, desperation, heaviness and embarrassment, causing one to be confounded, to give up hope or to be at a loss on what to do. Shame is also implied, as hopelessness leads to hanging one’s head low in a daze or confusion. What do you do when life leaves you with no money, no source of livelihood, no food and no place to lay your head? What do you do when there is no way of providing for your family, especially if you have little children? what do you do when you are faced with medical, financial or psychological problems that seem to defy all solutions? What do you do when calamity or devastation comes against you unexpectedly and you have exhausted all channels of resolution without respite? Many in such situations have chosen the dark path that eventually leads to death, either by way of murder or suicide. I pray for anyone who may be passing through difficult times at this moment: the Lord will help you, He will make a way for you out of your troubles, and you will live to share your testimony with the world in Jesus’ Name.

So much evil comes forth from situations of hopelessness. In 1 Samuel 31:4, after King Saul had been badly wounded, he lost every hope of divine intervention or recovery, and he committed suicide by falling on his sword. Similarly, in 2 Samuel 17:23, the moment Ahithophel saw that his counsel was not followed, he was filled with shame and embarrassment, so much so that he took his own life. After Judas Iscariot had betrayed Jesus, his heart was stricken by guilt, and he hanged himself (Matthew 27:3-5). I pray that the type of hopelessness that drove these men to commit suicide will never be your portion in Jesus’ Name.

Are you confronted by a hopeless situation, or are you stricken with deep sorrow and pain? I want you to encourage yourself in the Lord your God, just like David did after he lost everything he had ever laboured for (1 Samuel 30:6). The Almighty is our hope, our salvation and our peace. In your deepest sorrow and greatest moments of despair, please avoid the temptation of seeking respite in alcohol, hard drugs or any other mind-bending substances. Always turn to God for help, because you can always count on Him to console you and make a way out of that hopeless situation. I pray that no matter what you are passing through, you will not take any step that will lead to destruction in Jesus’ Name.

Topic: Never Give Up On Your Dream

Heb. 12:2 – Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.

A dream in this context can be defined as a picture of your future, as assembled from the scriptures. It is not a desire but a discovery; it is not an ambition, but a vision born out of revelation. It is not a goal that you set but a future you discover from scriptures. It is a picture of what you have been made as contained in scriptures.

Jer.29:11 – For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.

In God’s plan lies your future. Therefore, embrace the plan and walk in the reality of its fulfillment.

Rom.4:20 -He staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief; but was strong in faith, giving glory to God;

God told Abraham that he will be a father of many nations and Abraham believed without wavering. It was a discovery of what he was made that kept him going. You cannot celebrate a future you don’t see. When Abraham discovered his purpose and remained strong in faith, giving glory to God. He was never depressed because the picture was so clear to him. God brought him into a dream of his future, and Abraham believed God. So, the Bible is God’s Dream Book for His children. It is made up of amazing dream seeds. Any of those seeds you capture, cultivate, and nurture, will guarantee a great future for you.

To catch a scriptural dream, you must first of all be in the Spirit because you cannot hear from God except you are in the Spirit. You must come out of the flesh and be in the spirit, if you want to hear from God.

Next step is to engage in prayers and then engage in a spirited search of God’s word and other anointed books that address the issues of concern

Jeremiah 33:3 – Call upon me, and I will answer you, and I will show you great and mighty things which thou knowest not.

Job 14:14 – All the days of my appointed time will I wait, till my change come

Never give up on your dream! It took Abraham many years but he got there. You are sure to get there! There is a never-give-up grace that accompanies a scriptural dream. When you have caught it, it shows in your tenacity. Life without a dream is doomed! You are never tired of believing it. You never stop believing what you have seen.

As you see it, start acting it! You cannot see yourself as a king and still be acting like a slave. You cannot catch a scriptural dream without it showing practically in your life. See it! Believe it! Act it!

MESSAGE:

A mountain could be a miracle hidden in a problem wrapper. Many times when God wants to give you a big testimony, He allows a large-sized problem. But when you focus too much on the wrapper, you will miss the real content underneath.
That problem you think is so great that you believe will sink you has come to deliver your greatest victory. There is surely something miraculous underneath any problem you are facing. But you have to stop looking at the wrapper and God and what His Word says. It may be your parents, siblings or friends facing the problem; encourage them to focus on God and they will see the problem unwrap itself to give way to their miracles. All things work together for the good of them that love God and are called by His name, but note that you must first love God and be called by His name; that is, be called a child of God.

Action Point: Ask God to open your eyes to see the hidden content of every problem. Ask Him for the grace to focus on Him rather than on the problem.

Thought For The Day: The truth you know determines the freedom you attain; it is revelation that sponsors liberation.

Today is a very significant day in the history of our Nation, Nigeria; it is a day that marks the anniversary of our freedom or independence from our colonial masters. In a day like this, it is very important to look at the subject of freedom that emanates from God’s Word as it relates to our personal lives in particular and the nation in general.

Freedom can be defined as the state of being free, of not being imprisoned or enslaved. It is a state of being at liberty rather than being in confinement or under physical restraint and bondage.

The Bible makes it clear that it is God’s Will for His children to be free from every form of bondage. That is why He sent His Son, Jesus Christ to set us free from every bondage and yoke of sin, satan and the system of the world (John 10:10, John 8:32, 36).

Now, one of the forces that guarantee freedom is the Word of God (Psalms 107:20). The Word of God is a sponsor of freedom; the Word of God has the potency to set mankind free from every captivity of the enemy – be it the captivity of iniquity, insanity, poverty, infirmity, demonic affliction or witchcraft manipulation.

Therefore, to be connected to God’s Word is to be set free in life; freedom is a blessing of God’s Word. On the other hand, to be disconnected from God’s Word is to be cursed. The truth you know determines the freedom you attain; it is revelation that sponsors liberation (John 8:32).

Beloved, my counsel is, make up your mind to study God’s Word diligently on a continual basis. Freedom is not for lazy Christians but for those who are serious with God and diligent in the study of His Word. Anything that denies you access to God’s Word deprives you access to freedom. Maintain your access to the Word of God on a continual basis.

Remember This: The truth you know determines the freedom you attain; it is revelation that sponsors liberation.

1. Give yourself to a diligent study of God’s Word.
2. Reclaim your freedom from every form of captivity of the Enemy by praying and believing the revealed Word.

Great things happen when you continually confess the mercy of God. Faith rises up on the inside of you. The reality that God loves you begins to sing through your spirit.

What’s more, it brings honor to your Father when you believe His Word and magnify His love and mercy. You honor Him when you speak of His goodness and lovingkindness, when you talk about Him as your Father of love who does only good. It blesses Him when you praise Him as the great God of the universe who is eager to bless and who even gave His own Son because He so loved the world.

David was a man after God’s own heart. He knew how to praise his God. Until you have the Word dwelling in you richly so that you can speak psalms and praises out of your own spirit, use the praises of David to magnify God. Speak them or sing them out loud to the Father.

Put His words continually on your lips. You will soon begin to experience the thrill and the joy of realizing that God is indeed “rich in mercy” because of His great love with which He loved us. Your faith will rise to new heights and your Father will be blessed! And you will be blessed.

Topic: Is There Not A Cause? [TREM 1 October 2018 Daily Devotional]

Beloved, every time I read this scripture, I feel refreshed and recharged, more especially at this time of fasting. I know some people are finding it hard to fast. While I agree that this is not easy, I’m also convinced that there should be a greater purpose that far outweighs the pain and discomfort of hunger; if you are going to get all that God has purposed for you in this period. I’ve said this severally and it bears repetition, no one is an expert in fasting; everyone feels the pain of the process.

However, the overriding question is, “What is your cause? Our scripture for today says “for this cause we faint not …” What is your driving force? Do you have any convictions or persuasions? Is there anything worth denying yourself that plate of food?” Or on the other hand, are you simply going through the motions, and doing it, just because everyone is fasting?

When the brothers of David rebuked him in 1 Samuel 17:29 for being at the battleground whilst Goliath challenged the army of Israel to battle, he responded by saying, “…..What have I done now? Is there not a cause?” Hannah, the mother of Samuel the Prophet of God, came to a point in her life when the “worthy portions” that Elkannah her husband always gave her, did not matter anymore and she put them aside, because she desired an answer from God, that would stop Peninnah’s provocation. Child of God, there is a cause!

Like Apostle Paul, I’ve come to challenge you to ignore the pains and the feelings of hunger that ever so subtly, rumble away in your stomach. Now you ask, “Why Brother Mike?” Because like Paul says, “though your outward man perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by day”.

In Emily Bronte’s novel Wuthering Heights, a cantankerous man who often quotes the Bible to criticize others is memorably described as “the wearisomest self-righteous Pharisee that ever ransacked a Bible to rake [apply] the promises to himself and fling the curses to his neighbours.”

It’s a funny line; and it may even bring particular people to mind. But aren’t we all a bit like this—prone to condemn others’ failures while excusing our own?

In Scripture some people amazingly did the exact opposite; they were willing to give up God’s promises for them and even be cursed if it would save others. Consider Moses, who said he’d rather be blotted out of God’s book than see the Israelites unforgiven (Exodus 32:32). Or Paul, who said he’d choose to be “cut off from Christ” if it meant his people would find Him (Romans 9:3).

As self-righteous as we naturally are, Scripture highlights those who love others more than themselves.

Because ultimately such love points to Jesus. “Greater love has no one than this,” Jesus taught, than “to lay down one’s life for one’s friends” (John 15:13). Even before we knew Him, Jesus loved us “to the end” (13:1)—choosing death to give us life.

Now we are invited into the family of God, to love and be loved like this (15:9–12). And as we pour into others Christ’s unimaginable love, the world will catch a glimpse of Him.

Prayer: Lord, thank You for showing us what it means to love. Help us to love like You.

When we love Christ, we love others.
