‘I asked Christ to be my saviour and I never did cocaine again’ Miles McPherson describes conversion

The 58 year old, who is now a pastor at The Rock Church in San Diego, became a Christian nearly 40 years ago, after having a reality check about how cocaine had influenced his life.

McPherson told Fox news: “I decided I’m not going to do this anymore. I’m going to commit myself to Christ and that day, at 5 o’clock in the morning, I asked Christ to be my saviour and I never did cocaine again,”

As a teenager, he was introduced to Christ through other football players at the San Diego Chargers who told him the gospel and were in Bible studies with him.

He described how he came to faith: “There were guys in the team who had a relationship with Christ and they were witnessing to me, talking about Jesus and I knew about the Lord and one day at 5 in the morning I was laying on my couch and I had been doing cocaine all night and I just said ‘Jesus, I’m gonna give my life to you'”

He described how he thought he was going through a heart attack and decided to turn his life around.

“I think what happened was God opened my eyes to what my purpose was; to speak and share the gospel” he said.

He likened church to a huddle in American football, saying it’s where ‘you call the play’, but said the actual game is where you execute that plan, which is what motivates him as a speaker at a church.

“No one goes to the game to see the huddle, they go to…

Iran Warns US and Israel after Deadly Attack on Military Parade

Iran Warns US and Israel after Deadly Attack on Military Parade

An Iranian military leader has warned the U.S. and Israel that the two countries could face a “crushing and devastating” response after the two allegedly took part in Saturday’s assault.

According to Fox News, militants disguised as soldiers opened fire during an Iranian annual parade over the weekend. Reports said it was the deadliest terrorist attack in the country in about ten years; 25 were killed in the attack.

Iranian officials believe the attack came from Israeli militants who were supported by the U.S.

“You have seen our revenge before,” said Hossein Salami, deputy head of the Revolutionary Guard. “You will see that our response will be crushing and devastating and you will regret what you’ve done.”

Some suspects in the shooting were killed and others have been arrested.

“The terrorists themselves have perished, our agents will identify their remnants and supporters to the last man. A major part of them have already been arrested,” Intelligence Minister Mahmud Alavi said at a memorial for the dead on Monday.

Meanwhile, the U.S. itself condemned the terrorist attack.

“We stand with the Iranian people against the scourge of radical Islamic terrorism and express our sympathy to them at this terrible time,” said Heather Nauert, the U.S. State Department spokeswoman.

Arab separatists claimed responsibility for the attack. In a video…

Pastor Curry Allegedly Ignored Warnings About Sexual Harassment, Used Foul Language Before Firing

(Photo: Facebook)Dean Curry, lead pastor of Life Center Assembly of God in Tacoma, Wa., has been fired over allegations of “adultery.”

Former leader of Life Center Assembly of God Church in Tacoma, Washington, Dean Curry, ignored a strong warning from the church’s executive board about sexual harassment two years before he was fired for sexual misconduct this summer, church officials recently revealed.

In recordings from a private church meeting last Thursday cited by The News Tribune, Nate Angelo, chairman of Life Center’s executive board, said Curry, 50, was let go from the church because of multiple violations of the church’s sexual harassment policies.

Results of a 2018 investigation found that Curry used foul language with regularity, made inappropriate sexual comments, continued to commit “boundary crossings” and generally violated church policies forbidding sexual harassment, the church explained.

“The board is in unanimous agreement that Pastor Dean Curry’s removal as senior pastor was the correct decision,” Angelo told congregants at the meeting. “He is disqualified from gospel ministry because of repeat violations of Life Center’s sexual harassment policies. He will not be returning as Life Center’s senior pastor.”

Curry, who has repeatedly denied the sexual…

Indonesian Teenager, 19, Survives 49 Days Alone in the Pacific Ocean Living Off Sea Water After His Tiny Fishing Trap Was Blown Thousands of Kilometres Away – Before Being Rescued by a Cargo Ship

A teenager has survived 49 days adrift in the Pacific Ocean after his floating fishing hut was whisked away in strong winds.

Aldi Novel Adilang, 19, was working as a lamp keeper on a floating fish trap anchored 78 miles off the coast of North Sulawesi.

In mid-July, strong winds ripped his anchor from the ocean bed and sent his hut drifting more than 1,676 miles over the course of seven weeks.

Eventually, on August 31, Aldi – who had worked on the hut for three years – was able to send an emergency signal to the MV Arpeggio, a tanker in the water off Guam, and was rescued.

He has now told how he did not think he would survive at times and how he consulted the bible when he was afraid.

The small, hut-like fish trap floats on the surface of the sea and is only supported by buoys and attached to the seabed by a long rope.

Aldi has worked on it for three years. His job is to light the lamps which attract fish in the water.

Every month, someone comes to the hut to bring him food and supplies.,

On July 14, high winds tore the worn rope and rendered his buoys useless.

He was sent drifting, with only limited supplies of water, gas and fuel.

According to the Indonesian consul general in Osaka, Japan, Mirza Nurhidaya, the teenager was able to stretch out his weekly supplies for the full seven weeks.

‘After he ran out of the cooking gas, he burned the wooden fences to make a fire for cooking.

‘He drank by sipping water from his clothes that had been wetted by sea water,’ the consul general told the Jakarta Post.

Stranded at sea, the teenager made many attempt to flag down passing…

Second Accuser against Brett Kavanaugh Surfaces, Calls for FBI Investigation

Second Accuser against Brett Kavanaugh Surfaces, Calls for FBI Investigation

Senate Democrats are investigating a new allegation of sexual misconduct against Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh.

The New Yorker reported that Deborah Ramirez, who attended Yale University with Kavanaugh in the 1980s, is claiming that during the 1983-84 academic year Kavanaugh assaulted her during a dorm party.

The New Yorker reportedly learned about the alleged incident and reached out to Ramirez for an interview. The magazine said that when they initially spoke with Ramirez she was hesitant to confirm that Kavanaugh was involved in the incident noting that there are gaps in her memory of the party due to inebriation. Ramirez then spent six days assessing her memories and consulting with an attorney until she “felt confident enough of her recollections to say that she remembers Kavanaugh had exposed himself at a drunken dormitory party,” The New Yorker reports.

According to Ramirez’s recollection, Kavanaugh thrust his genitalia in her face causing her to touch it as she pushed it away. Ramirez, along with Christine Blasey Ford, Kavanaugh’s first accuser, is calling for the F.B.I. to investigate Kavanaugh’s role in the incident. She said, “I would think an F.B.I. investigation would be warranted.”

The allegation is currently under investigation by the offices of a pair of Democratic senators. Several Republican Senators are also…

(Screenshot: TheGospelCoalition.org)Bible teacher and author Beth Moore speaks during a panel discussion at the MLK 50 Conference in Memphis, Tennessee on April 4, 2018.

Evangelist Beth Moore has joined the chorus of women explaining on social media why they didn’t initially report the sex abuse they suffered.

While the social media hashtag #WhyIDidntReport took off in the wake of accusations of attempted rape against Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh, and a tweet by President Donald Trump, arguing that the accuser, Professor Christine Blasey Ford, would have reported her abuse if it really happened.

“I have no doubt that, if the attack on Dr. Ford was as bad as she says, charges would have been immediately filed with local Law Enforcement Authorities by either her or her loving parents. I ask that she bring those filings forward so that we can learn date, time, and place!” he tweeted Friday.

Moore insisted that she is not making a comment about the Kavanaugh allegations, but is supporting victims.

“He lived in my house. #whyididntreport,” Moore tweeted on Friday.

The following day she added: “Make it a safer world to report it and you’ll make it a safer world.”

She was backed by some other evangelicals leaders, such as Russell Moore, President of the Ethics &…

Chick-fil-A Opens Doors on Sunday to Aid in Hurricane Relief Efforts

Chick-fil-A Opens Doors on Sunday to Aid in Hurricane Relief Efforts

A Chick-fil-A in North Carolina opened its doors on Sunday despite its closed-on Sunday policy, to serve first responders and Hurricane Florence evacuees.

The Wilmington, North Carolina Chick-fil-A, owned by Donovan and Nikki Carless, offered free meals to first responders and locals on Sunday after Hurricane Florence left thousands of people displaced.

According to The Christian Post, the hurricane has already claimed the lives of 43 people and somewhere around 5,000 people have been rescued from dangerous conditions. The Governor of North Carolina, Roy Cooper, announced last week that “treacherous” floodwaters are still a threat to the state.

With this in mind, the restaurant owners asked themselves, what they could do to help. The Carless’s decided to gather their team and ask who would be willing to help with the relief effort by serving food on Sunday, a day when the company is ordinarily closed due to its Christian roots.

According to ABC News 11, the team jumped at the opportunity to help. In coordination with the Red Cross, the team was able to give 500 sandwiches and 1200 nuggets to evacuees at three different shelters.

In total, four locations in the Wilmington area started offering free meals to all first responders, emergency personnel and electrical linemen. The stores are opening at 10:00 a.m. on Sunday and closing at 4:30 p.m.

Colombian pastor killed by illegal armed group

Pastor Elfren Martínez Pérez, age 55, was shot and killed on 16th September outside his home in Antioquia.

He led Nueva Filadelfia Church in the hamlet of La Ilusión near the city of Caucasia. The church belongs to the Association of Evangelical Churches of the Caribbean (AIEC) – one of the largest denominations in northern Colombia.

According to partners of the religious freedoms charity Christian Solidarity Worldwide (CSW), the pastor had challenged the presence of the illegal armed group believed to be a neo-paramilitary group which is active in the region.

A member of the community told CSW partners: “[Pastor Martínez Pérez] would confront [the neo-paramilitary group], they would always approach him to tell him that they had arrived to protect the community, that only they could do it, he would reply saying that the community did not need this form of protection”.

Earlier in the day on 16th September, the pastor had refused demands by the men from the illegal armed group to transport them on his boat.

The men left but returned at 7pm accompanied by two others on motorbikes.

After calling Pastor Martínez Pérez out of his home, they reportedly said: “As you are a pastor, we will only shoot you once”. One of the men then shot and killed the pastor in front of his home.

Pastor Martínez Pérez is survived by his wife and five adult children. They fled the…

271 Indian Christians accused of using drugs to force conversions

According to Voice of the Martyrs, an organisation that serves persecuted Christians, it’s claimed the Christians were convincing people to attend a church in Baldeh village.

The court heard that the Christians allegedly distributed “prohibited medicines and drugs” and then evangelised while users were under the influence of narcotics.

Todd Nettleton from Voice of the Martyrs told Mission Network News: “The court, instead of saying that’s ridiculous, they actually allowed the charges to go forward.

“So now we have a First Information Report against 271 people for this charge of talking bad about Hinduism and it all goes back to those anti-conversion laws that are written to keep Christian groups and other groups from talking to Hindus about changing their faith.”

CC

Anti-conversion laws have been used many times to target Christians and other religious minorities in India. They are also used to prevent Hindus converting to other faiths.

Nettleton added: “That’s what these anti-conversion laws are, they are completely unreasonable, they completely undermine the promise of religious freedom that the Indian Constitution contains, and yet here we are again with a case where 271 people have been charged based on these completely unjust laws.”
