Football fans clash with churchgoers over stadium plaza

Hundreds of members of the Upper Room church wearing yellow construction helmets arrived in buses and began painting walls, covering images of famed players from the Alianza Lima club.

Football fans soon arrived and the two sides clashed. Police in the Peruvian capital used tear gas to break up the confrontation.

Police Chief Gaston Rodriguez said two fans were detained and one of the church members was injured.

The club said in a news release that it has owned the plaza for 40 years, but church lawyer Sandro Balbin said the church has been the registered owner of the property since 2016.

It is now used for concerts, parking and a gathering place for fans. The Upper Room wants to hold worship services there.

Jewish Group Says Biblical End Times Prophecy Fulfilled with Birth of ‘Perfect’ Red Cow

Jewish Group Says Biblical End Times Prophecy Fulfilled with Birth of ‘Perfect’ Red Cow

The birth of a perfect, red heifer could be the first sign of a fulfillment of End Times prophecy, according to the Temple Institute.

According to CBN News, the red female calf was born in Israel on Aug. 28.

“The heifer is currently a viable candidate and will be examined (to see) whether it possesses the necessary qualifications for the red heifer,” a statement said from the Temple Institute.

In Jewish theology, the red calf is a major part of the rebuilding of the Holy Temple in Jerusalem. The red calf born will need to be sacrificed to purify the temple.

It is this event that will pave the way for Christ’s return, Jews say.

A board of rabbis has already certified the baby calf, claiming she adheres to the biblical requirements for the animal. Under those requirements, the calf must be brain naturally and can only have two non-red hairs. The calf may not be impregnated later or used for labor.

The heifer must be between 3 to 4 years old to be used for purification of the temple.

“If there has been no red heifer for the past 2,000 years, perhaps it was because the time was not right,” said Rabbi Chaim Richman, the international director of the Temple Institute.

“But now what could it mean for the times we live in to have the means of purification so close at hand? With the words of [Jewish philosopher] Maimonides in mind,…

Justin Welby: Religious communities seeing revival

He said young people are both joining established and new religious communities.

“We are witnessing a revival of interest in community life in its different forms: celibate and non-celibate, communal and dispersed, traditional and experimental.” Most Rev Justin Welby wrote in the Church Times.

The archbishop said this revival comes after a report published a decade ago gave a very bleak outlook on the growth of religious communities. Declining membership and rising average ages were a few factors that predicted a “meltdown”.

“That is why, as we take stock at this moment, we can rejoice that God has had very different ideas,” Archbishop Justin added.

“To look at the new life breathing into established and new communities across the Church of England is to see the Spirit of God at work in an incredibly exciting way.”

He said that Mucknell Abbey and West Malling are both great examples of established communities making way for new people.

The Benedictine Sisters at West Malling partnered with Rochester diocese and St Augustine’s College to recreate their space in order to welcome new novices. They also have the Pilsdon Community on the same site,

Archbishop Justin also praised new communities like Tree of Life in Leicester, and the Young Franciscans in London for “answering a clear desire among younger people to integrate…

Dallas Youth Pastor Mistakenly Killed by Off-Duty Police Officer

Dallas Youth Pastor Mistakenly Killed by Off-Duty Police Officer

On Thursday the youth Pastor of Dallas West Church of Christ was shot and killed by a police officer in his own home.

Botham Jean was shot Thursday by an off-duty Dallas police officer who reportedly mistook Jean’s apartment for her own.

According to CBN, investigators are saying that Officer Amber Guyger was returning home from a shift when she entered Jean’s apartment and opened fire thinking Jean was an intruder.

Jean’s family’s lawyer is calling for Guyger’s arrest and has spoken out against the fact that days after the shooting Guyer remained free. Reportedly, the family’s lawyer is proclaiming that the officer is receiving favorable treatment. Guyger was arrested on Sunday and is out on bond.

Police are still investigating the shooting.

On Sunday at Dallas West Church of Christ, the family and church congregation held a service to honor the life of Jean.

According to The Dallas Morning News, Jean moved to Dallas after graduating from Harding University in Arkansas.

While attending university, Jean was reportedly known for his “beautiful voice,” and often led worship at the university chapel.

Jean would go on to serve as a youth pastor and worship leader in Dallas.

CBN reports that during the service on Sunday, family and friends paid tribute to Jean by singing “My God is Real,” one of Jean’s favorite hymns.

Megachurch Pastor Jim Garlow Resigning From Skyline to Minister to Politicians, Gov’t Officials

(Photo via Skyline Church)Parents of eight children, Jim Garlow and his wife Rosemary speak at a Skyline Church service.

Southern California megachurch pastor Jim Garlow will step down from his role as senior pastor at Skyline Church in La Mesa in order to focus on ministering to lawmakers, ambassadors and federal government employees.

Garlow told The Christian Post last week that he will officially step down from the San Diego-area 2,100-member congregation in the middle of November as he looks to expand a governmental ministry he helped found called Well Versed Nations.

The ministry, which has existed in some capacity through holding weekly Bible studies for members of Congress for the past four years, has been expanded in recent months to include Bible studies for employees of the United Nations in New York City and employees of a federal agency in Washington, D.C.

The group is also associated with a periodic joint Jewish-Christian Old Testament study for Israeli lawmakers in Jerusalem that was launched this year.

“We know that the ways of God apply to every aspect of culture, including the governmental,” Garlow explained. “We don’t buy into the notion that biblical principles must be kept from the governmental sphere. We recognized that God and government should not…

Vatican promises ‘clarifications’ over Pope cover-up claims

In a statement, Francis’s nine cardinal advisers expressed their “full solidarity” with the Pope over the scandal which has thrown his papacy into crisis.

The cardinals, who are meeting at the Vatican this week, said they were aware that “the Holy See is working on formulating the potential and necessary clarifications”.

Francis has refused to respond to an 11-page document published on August 26 by a retired ambassador to the US, Archbishop Carlo Maria Vigano.

Mr Vigano named more than two dozen current and former Vatican and US officials and accused them of knowing about and covering up for ex-cardinal Theodore McCarrick, who is accused of sexually molesting and harassing minors as well as adults.

Mr Vigano accused Francis of rehabilitating McCarrick from canonical sanctions imposed on him by Pope Benedict XVI in 2009 or 2010.

The Vatican has known since at least 2000 that McCarrick slept with seminarians.

Francis removed McCarrick as cardinal in July following accusations that he groped a teenage altar boy in the 1970s, a canonical crime that could result in him being defrocked.

Francis’s refusal to immediately respond to Mr Vigano’s claims has frustrated many Catholics in the US, who were already outraged that McCarrick’s penchant for seminarians and young priests was apparently an open secret in some church circles.

That outrage has been compounded by the…

U.K. Muslim Group Rallies Support to Ban Franklin Graham from Britain

U.K. Muslim Group Rallies Support to Ban Franklin Graham from Britain

The largest Muslim organization in the U.K. is urging the government to ban evangelist and preacher Franklin Graham from making an appearance in Britain later this month.

The Muslim Council of Britain (MCB), an umbrella organization for hundreds of Muslim groups, has offered its support to calls from three parliament members and extensive public outcry to deny the preacher a visa for spreading, what they are calling, “hate speech.”

Opponents are accusing Graham of inciting hatred toward Muslims and the LGBTQ community and are urging the government not to allow him into the country.

In a statement to The Guardian, MCB said,“In the past the government has banned individuals whom they claim are ‘not conducive to the public good’. Mr Graham’s remarks are on record and clearly demonstrate a hatred for Muslims and other minorities.”

The MCB continues, “We would expect the government to apply its criteria here. If it does not, it will send a clear message that it is not consistent in challenging all forms of bigotry.”

Opponents are citing instances when Graham described Islam as “evil” and a “religion of war,” and when he supported Russian leader Vladimir Putin for opposing the “homosexual agenda.”

Members of the public have started an online petition which, according to Newsweek, has more than 8,000 signatures on it calling for the…

Officials are investigating the cause of the crash.

According to the Anglican Communoin News Service, the Primate of South Sudan, Archbishop Justin Badi Arama, said: “Mama Joyce and I are saddened to hear of the plane crash in Yirol this morning, which has claimed the lives of a number of people, including the ECSS Bishop of Yirol, Rt Revd Simon Adut Yuang.

“Bishop Simon was an energetic young man and is a loss to the Episcopal Church of South Sudan. Please join us in praying for the families and friends of all involved in the accident.

The three survivors of the crash are a six-year-old child, an adult man and an Italian doctor with an aid organisation who was in surgery and in serious condition, Mr Aguek said.

“There were people everywhere,” the minister said of the crash site.

Greg Laurie Leads ‘Jesus Revolution Style’ Baptism at California Beach; Over 550 Baptized

Over 550 people were baptized on a California beach over the weekend during a mass baptism led by evangelist and megachurch Pastor Greg Laurie.

Laurie and pastors from his Harvest Christian Fellowship in Riverside were joined by pastors from about nine other Southern California churches in baptizing new believers at Pirates Cove in Newport Beach on Saturday morning.

“Back over 40 years ago during the Jesus Movement, we used to do baptisms down at Pirates Cove beach. In fact that is where I was baptized and my wife, Cathe, was baptized there as well,” Laurie told The Christian Post on Monday. “It is a significant place, historically, for the Church because that was sort of the epicenter of the Jesus Revolution, as reported on by Time magazine and others. It was a phenomenon.”

The baptism was held from about 10 a.m. until noon. Among the pastors who participated in the baptism is Brian Brodersen of Calvary Chapel of Costa Mesa.

The mass baptism comes weeks after about 10,000 people made decisions for Christ at Laurie’s 29th annual, three-night Southern California Harvest Crusade held at Angel Stadium.

Bishop calls for revamp of women’s justice system

Rt Rev Rachel Treweek is expected to call for a review of short prison sentences and ask that the Government considers community based orders and rehabilitation for women with less serious offences.

She said in a statement: “We know that women in the justice system get caught in the so-called revolving door with short prison sentences. Women lose their homes; they often lose custody of their children, even to adoption. This often then exacerbates the downward spiral into more serious offences and an inability to secure employment.

“Properly resourced women’s centres can provide an opportunity for a different path, where women can receive a holistic trauma-informed approach of rehabilitation.”

Bishop Rachel said a review of the women’s justice system could lead to a more cost-effective solution.

“We know that it costs approximately £47,000 per year to keep a woman in prison, but women’s centres can work effectively with approximately £4,000 per woman each year,” she said.

The bishop also highlighted that female offenders are very often victims of abuse.

“According to the excellent organisation ‘Women in Prison’ 53 per cent of women in prison have experienced emotional, physical or sexual abuse during childhood; 46 per cent report suffering domestic abuse violence; and over 30% spent time in local authority care as a child,” she said.

“As a…
