DCLM Daily Manna 3 September 2018 – And They Shall Be Mine…

Topic: And They Shall Be Mine… [DCLM Daily Manna 3 September 2018 Daily Devotional]

Text: Numbers 18:8-19 (KJV)

Key Verse: “Every thing devoted in Israel shall be thine” (Numbers 18:14).

MESSAGE:

God calls His children to be His representatives on earth by reflecting His light and glory. Every child of God therefore represents Him on earth as His minister and ambassador, living a holy life in His likeness.

Aaron and his entire household were called to minister unto the Lord in the sanctuary. Because of this calling “by reason of the anointing” (Numbers 18:8), they were given the responsibility of taking care of the things of the Lord, which included things offered unto the Lord and the proper conduct of the people in His presence. Aaron and his sons and daughters were to eat and live of the things offered unto the Lord, a sign of not only being members of God’s family, but also an indication of occupying distinguished positions of reverence.

Every believer is a special treasure unto the Lord. Such a Christian is a vessel unto honour. This honour is not by virtue of belonging to a particular local church or family where one’s father is a pastor. However esteemed among men, we are to live holily, serve and represent the Lord with our lives, recover souls from the world and its sinful pleasures.

There are rewards for holy and faithful saints: “And they shall be mine, saith the LORD of hosts, in that day when I make up my jewels; and I will spare them, as a man spareth his own son that serveth him” (Malachi 3:17). There are glorious rewards, in time and eternity, for the faithful who own up to Him.

Thought For The Day: Every wise investor invests in heavenly treasures.

Seeds of Destiny 3 September 2018 – Why the Christian Life is Impossible without Faith

Topic: Why the Christian Life is Impossible without Faith [Seeds of Destiny 3 September 2018 Daily Devotional]

Scripture: But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him. Hebrews 11:6

Thought For The Day: Without faith, disastrous falls are imminent or inescapable.

Previously, we saw that faith is a non-negotiable necessity for the Christian’s life and adventure on the face of the earth. This means, the Christian life is impossible without faith. When faith is out of place, Christianity is out of place, but when faith is intact, Christianity is intact.

Now, let me give you reasons why the Christian life or Christianity is impossible without faith:

a) We are saved by faith

We are saved by grace through faith (Ephesians 2:8). Thus, without faith, salvation cannot be realized.

b) We are made whole by faith

We are healed, cleansed and made whole by faith (Matthew 9:22). So without faith, we remain unclean and prone to diverse satanic afflictions.

c) We live by faith

This means, without faith, death is inevitable for the just (Galatians 3:11).

d) We stand by faith

Faith is our stand in life and destiny; faith gives us a stand in life (Romans 11:20, 2 Corinthians 1:24). Without faith, disastrous falls are imminent or inescapable.

Now, if we are saved by faith, made whole by faith, live by faith, stand by faith, walk by faith, what can we do without faith? Nothing! Absolutely nothing!

My counsel is, make up your mind to cultivate a solid life of faith in God in order to have and maintain a solid Christian life.

Remember this: Without faith, disastrous falls are imminent or inescapable.

Assignments:

1. Make up your mind to deal with every form of doubt and unbelief in your life.

2. Determine to cultivate a solid life of faith.

Prayer: O Lord! I ask for the impartation of the spirit of faith (2 Corinthians 4:13). Help me Lord, to put absolute trust in You and in Your Word, Lord, in Jesus’ Name.

Ed Young to Preach Pro-Wrestling Sermon Series Featuring WWE’s The Undertaker, Ric Flair

(Photo: Courtesy Ed Young)Ed Young, senior pastor of Fellowship Church of Grapevine, Texas (Left) and Mark Calaway, a World Wrestling Entertainment superstar commonly known by his stage name The Undertaker (Right).

Texas megachurch pastor Ed Young is going to have a professional wrestling themed sermon series in which he will interview notable wrestlers like The Undertaker, Ric Flair, Sting, and “The Million Dollar Man” Ted Dibiase.

The senior pastor of Fellowship Church, a multisite congregation based in Grapevine, Texas, recently announced that the four-week series will begin on Sunday, Sept. 9.

In a Thursday interview with The Christian Post, Young explained that he had considered centering a sermon series on wrestling for years given how often it appears in the Bible.

“One of the most used metaphors in scripture regarding the Christian life is that of a wrestler,” said Young, citing as examples Ephesians 6:12 and Jacob wrestling with an angel, as described in Genesis 32:22-32.

“It’s a staple in our culture so I thought wouldn’t it be cool to interview some of the most popular wrestlers in the world, to have them at Fellowship, and then to speak out of the scripture regarding wrestling?” Young said.

Navigating Abuse, Divorce, and Building Marriages in a Culture of Marital Breakdown; Pastors Weigh In

(Photo: Unsplash/Jeremy Wong Weddings)

For most sincere Christians, hesitancy abounds as to whether it is ever permissible to recommend divorce.

Yet many Christians found it appalling that one of the Southern Baptist Convention’s leading figures, Paige Patterson, said that he never counseled couples to get a divorce even in abusive situations (though he advised temporary separation in severe cases).

In the wake of the controversy surrounding Patterson’s comments as well as the #metoo movement — exposing the epidemic of sexual misconduct and domestic abuse — that began escalating last fall, The Christian Post spoke with an Illinois pastor, a marriage counselor, and a Methodist layman who facilitates DivorceCare in his church to find out how they advise couples who are having marital problems.

They addressed Scripture, relational dynamics, and the challenges and general messiness of ministering in a culture ravaged by abuse, divorce, and family disintegration.

Illinois Pastor on Scripture misunderstandings and connecting with the heart of God

Neil Schori, 42, who pastors a Edge Church in Aurora, Illinois, believes Christians hesitate when it comes to when divorce is allowed partly because of the high rate of divorce in the U.S.

“We rightfully have a concern as Christians, who are called to forgiveness and reconciliation, and it makes a lot of sense that we would be contending for marriage. I think where it gets a little skewed is that there is a fundamental misunderstanding scripturally, about what God calls our marriages to be,” he told CP.

In addition to misunderstanding, a…

Hope and Caution in North Korea as Kim Jong Un Shifts Gears – Urban Christian News

Tanned and wearing a swimsuit, So Myong Il walks to the barbecue pit and throws on some clams.

He obviously loves the beach he’s on as well as the rugged, emerald Chilbo mountains that rise abruptly behind it. He loves them enough to forget, for a moment at least, that he is a senior official sent to deliver an ideology-soaked pitch singing their praises and instead lets the natural beauty surrounding him speak for itself.

Comrade So sees great things for North Korean attractions like this.

Hotels, big and small. Tourists from all over the country, maybe the world. “As long as we have the leadership of our respected Marshal,” he says, referring to leader Kim Jong Un, “our future will be bright indeed.”

So wouldn’t think of questioning the leader, but there is a hint of apprehension in his voice. And he isn’t alone.

North Korea is pushing ahead with a new strategy of economic development and the intensified diplomacy with China, South Korea and the United States that such a move requires. But hopes for a better future are mixed with concern over potential downsides of political or social volatility, and something that’s harder to articulate: a fear of the unknown — even if it appears far more promising than the arduous path the country has been on for decades.

___

Even before announcing in January that he had sufficiently perfected his nuclear arsenal and could start to focus on other things, Kim has held economic development to be his primary long-term concern.

He has allowed markets and entrepreneurialism to flourish and, since succeeding his father as leader…

Open Heavens 3 September 2018 – Sacrificial Service

Open Heavens 3 September 2018 Monday Daily Devotional by Pastor E A Adeboye – Sacrificial Service

Topic: Sacrificial Service

Memorise: “Then Paul answered, What mean ye to weep and to break mine heart? for I am ready not to be bound only, but also to die at Jerusalem for the name of the Lord Jesus.”- Acts 21:13

Read: 2 Samuel 23:14-17 (KJV)

14 And David was then in an hold, and the garrison of the Philistines was then in Bethlehem.

15 And David longed, and said, Oh that one would give me drink of the water of the well of Bethlehem, which is by the gate!

16 And the three mighty men brake through the host of the Philistines, and drew water out of the well of Bethlehem, that was by the gate, and took it, and brought it to David: nevertheless he would not drink thereof, but poured it out unto the LORD.

17 And he said, Be it far from me, O LORD, that I should do this: is not this the blood of the men that went in jeopardy of their lives? therefore he would not drink it. These things did these three mighty men.

Bible in One Year: Psalm 107-110, Mark 1:211-45

Open Heavens 3 September 2018 Monday MESSAGE:

Do you know that if your service unto God has not become sacrificial, you still have some very important heights to attain? Some people offer service unto God with an aspect of their life that costs them nothing, while they reserve the most precious aspect to themselves. The sacrificial service of Apostle Paul stood him out among his contemporaries. The story that led to the comment he made in today’s memory verse is a case in point. It is not that Paul doubted the prophecy that announced he would be bound in Jerusalem; rather, the fear of bounds had no impact on him because his heart was set on doing the will of the Master. For this reason, the Brethren just could not persuade him against going to Jerusalem (Acts 21:10-14).

Today’s Bible reading also narrates a story of sacrificial service. David fantasized aloud about drinking water from the well that was at the gate of Bethlehem, but which was blocked off by a stronghold of the Philistines there at that time. Overhearing their master’s desire, three mighty men risked their lives and broke through the host of the philistines to get the water for David. Being a warrior himself, David knew the risk involved in going into the camp of the enemy for whatever reason. While he celebrated the bravery of the three mighty men, he refused to drink the water they brought because of the value he placed on these men who risked their lives to fulfill a personal longing of his. His heartfelt words are captured in 2 Samuel 23:17:

“And he said, Be it far from me, O LORD, that I should do this: is not this the blood of the men that went in jeopardy of their lives? therefore he would not drink it…”

If these men could go to such a great length for David, what level of sacrifice are you ready to make for your Master?

When service becomes a sacrifice, only few people will continue to hold the fort. Nevertheless, the reward for sacrificial service is very substantial indeed. The three men who jeopardized their lives were given top positions in his army. Here is the commendation and reward our Lord promises those who will step up the level of their service from ordinary to sacrificial:

“And he said unto him, Well, thou good servant: because thou hast been faithful in a very little, have thou authority over ten cities.” – Luke 19:17

I pray that God will grant you grace to be faithful to the very end, and you will not miss your reward in heaven in Jesus’ Name.

Prayer Point: Open Heavens 3 September 2018 Monday

Father, please grant me the grace to render sacrificial service to you in Jesus’ Name.

1. Take my life and let it be
Consecrated, Lord, to Thee.
Take my moments and my days,
Let them flow in endless praise,

2. Take my hands and let them move
At the impulse of Thy love.
Take my feet and let them be
Swift and beautiful for Thee,
Swift and beautiful for Thee.

3. Take my voice and let me sing,
Always, only for my King.
Take my lips and let them be
Filled with messages from Thee,
Filled with messages from Thee.

4. Take my silver and my gold,
Not a mite would I withhold.
Take my intellect and use
Every pow’r as Thou shalt choose,
Every pow’r as Thou shalt choose.

5. Take my will and make it Thine,
It shall be no longer mine.
Take my heart, it is Thine own,
It shall be Thy royal throne,
It shall be Thy royal throne.

6. Take my love, my Lord, I pour
At Thy feet its treasure store.
Take myself and I will be
Ever, only, all for Thee,
Ever, only, all for Thee.

Ebola Survivors Returning Home to Fear & Stigma in Congo – Urban Christian News

Leoni Kahumbu remembers the night her 15-year-old daughter, Pascaline, first showed signs of Ebola. She found her fainted on the bathroom floor, blood everywhere.

“She did not even have the strength to get up … I called an ambulance,” Kahumbu said. Experts came to their home the next day to disinfect the house. The 48-year-old and her three other children were isolated but have not come down with the often deadly virus.

Pascaline survived. She was among the first people given mAb114, one of five experimental treatments approved for use in Congo’s latest Ebola outbreak.

Now she and other survivors must now deal with the emotional toll of returning to nervous communities where they could be shunned. “Thank God I’m still alive,” said another survivor, Dr. Maurice Kakule Muchunga, one of several health workers who have been infected.

This is the first time an Ebola outbreak has occurred in Congo’s North Kivu and Ituri provinces, densely populated areas with an estimated 1 million people displaced by numerous armed groups fighting over rich natural resources. Ninety cases have been confirmed as Ebola, including 48 deaths.

Health officials face the challenge not only of combating a deadly virus in what is effectively a war zone but also of pushing back against possible stigma and fears of the unknown.

“Although I was negative for Ebola, all of my friends are scared of me,” said Leoni, who tested negative for Ebola and came home to find all of the family’s belongings destroyed to stop the virus from spreading. “I spend all day inside watching TV, and if I leave…

Germany’s Foreign Minister Tells People They’re Lazy When It Comes to Battling Racism and Fighting for Democracy – Urban Christian News

Germany’s foreign minister told his fellow countrymen Sunday they’re too lazy when it comes to battling racism and fighting for democracy.

“We have to get off the couch and open the mouth,” Heiko Maas said in an interview with weekly Bild am Sonntag. “Our generation was given freedom, rule of law and democracy as a present. We didn’t have to fight for it; (now) we’re taking it too much for granted.”

Maas’ comments followed Saturday’s demonstrations by about 4,500 far-right protesters in Chemnitz, who were rallying against migration a week after a German was killed in the eastern city, allegedly by two migrants from Iraq and Syria. Around 4,000 leftist protesters also marched through the city in a counter-protest, and 1,800 police officers were deployed to keep the groups apart.

Eighteen people, including three police officers, were injured during the rallies, which at times were very tense, especially after police ended a march of the far right groups early.

After the rallies were over, small groups clashed with each other, police reported.

Soeren Bartol, a lawmaker with the Social Democrats, tweeted that after the end of the protests he and his group “were attacked by Nazis” who destroyed their party flags and physically attacked some of them.

Far-right activists and leftist groups had already clashed in Chemnitz on Monday, a day after the 35-year-old German man’s death. Scenes of vigilantes chasing foreigners in the city’s streets have shocked people in others parts of Germany since then.

The tension that has built up over the past week in Chemnitz,…

Philippines President Duterte to Visit Israel and Prime Minister Netanyahu – Urban Christian News

The first-ever visit of a leader of the Philippines is sure to be touted by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu as another success in his campaign to enhance Israel’s relations across the globe. But critics say this outreach has come at a cost, with Netanyahu cozying up to authoritarian leaders, some of whom are guilty of human rights abuses.

Netanyahu takes great pride that under his leadership Israel has found new friends in Europe, as well as in far-flung countries in Asia, Africa and Latin America that long sided with the Palestinians at the United Nations and other global bodies.

But while many of Netanyahu’s new allies have offered blanket support for Israel, or at least indifference to its conflict with the Palestinians, some have also voiced borderline anti-Semitic sentiments and adopted a revisionist approach to the most painful chapters of Jewish history.

The Philippines’ foul-mouthed president, Rodrigo Duterte, who has cursed out everyone from Barack Obama to God, will receive a warm welcome in the Holy Land.

He arrives in Israel on Sunday for a four-day visit, the first presidential visit since the countries established diplomatic relations in 1957. He is expected to lunch with Netanyahu, meet other top officials and visit the country’s Holocaust memorial. He is also expected to sign a major oil deal and view an arms display.

His forces are accused of killing thousands in anti-drug raids since he took office in 2016. Duterte drew outrage that year when he compared his anti-drug campaign to the Holocaust, and himself to Hitler, saying he would be “happy to…

‘Any time I’m criticised for my belief in Jesus Christ, I just breathe a prayer of praise’

In an interview with Christian Broadcasting Network (CBN), Pence said: “The Bible says, ‘count it all joy’ when you endure trials of many kinds.

“Any time I’m criticised for my belief in Jesus Christ, I just breathe a prayer of praise.”

Pence has been mocked for his strong Christian views and beliefs a number of times.

American talk show host and comedian Joy Behar publically apologised earlier in the year claiming Pence had a “mental illness” as he believed Jesus speaks to him.

A book released this week, The Shadow President: The Truth About Mike Pence by authors Michael D’Antonio and Peter Eisner labels the vice president as “the most successful Christian supremacist in American history”.

When told during the CBN interview that he’s been ‘under attack’, Pence replied: “‘I really don’t spend a lot of time thinking about it.

“This is a nation of faith. We’ll continue to stand for the things that we believe in.”
