And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul. Genesis 2:7.

What is life? Many people believe that life cannot be comprehensively defined. Some define and see life to start from birth to the day one breath his or her last here on the face of the earth. This view cannot be totally correct because the bible teaches that, there is life after death. You might have your own way of defining or seeing life.

But putting life in its rightful place, I would love to say that, life is God and God is life. Simple. This is because there was no life in man (when he was first formed from the dust) until God breath into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul. This therefore tells us that life actually started with God and will end with Him after this world is passed away.

The lesson we must learn from here is that, no matter who we are and what we do, “….. every one of us shall give account of himself to God. Rom 14:12.” To appreciate God the giver of the life we now live is to live for Him and His Kingdom alone and not to live to please and satisfy the lust of our flesh. And to do this is to first of all surrender the life He gave you to Jesus Christ to wash your sins (that Adam and Eve brought to humanity) away with His precious blood.

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance: against such there is no law. – Galatians 5:22-23

So many believers think of the fruit of the spirit as little more than a passive list of pleasant qualities that can help improve their personalities. But it’s far greater than that! It’s pure spiritual power.

Love is so powerful, the scripture says, that it never fails. Patience is so powerful it cannot be stopped. No matter what the circumstances, it will not quit. Temperance is so powerful it can master all the unruly desires of your flesh.

The fruit of the spirit is not weak; it’s strong. So strong all the demons of hell can’t stop it. So strong that if you’ll let it flow out of you, it will correct the problems in your life. It will keep you steadfast when all the people around you are falling down. It’ll keep you on your feet when governments fail and when the storms of life come.

We are living in dangerous days. There’s only one way you can make it through in victory. You must begin to release the powerful fruit of the spirit God has placed inside you. Believe me, if you’re born again, it is there. Learn to yield to it and as 2 Peter 1:10 promised, you shall never fall!

When a flood came, the torrent struck that house but could not shake it, because it was well built. Luke 6:48

After living in their house for several years, my friends realized that their living room was sinking—cracks appeared on the walls and a window would no longer open. They learned that this room had been added without a foundation. Rectifying the shoddy workmanship would mean months of work as builders laid a new foundation.

They had the work done, and when I visited them afterwards, I couldn’t see much difference (although the cracks were gone and now the window opened). But I understood that a solid foundation matters.

This is true in our lives as well.

Jesus shared a parable about wise and foolish builders to illustrate the folly of not listening to Him (Luke 6:46–49). Those who hear and obey His words are like the person who builds a house on a firm foundation, unlike those who hear but ignore His words. Jesus assured His listeners that when the storms come, their house would stand. Their faith would not be shaken.

We can find peace knowing that as we listen to and obey Jesus, He forms a strong foundation for our lives. We can strengthen our love for Him through reading the Bible, praying, and learning from other Christians. Then when we face the torrents of rain lashing against us—whether betrayal, pain, or disappointment—we can trust that our foundation is solid. Our Savior will provide the support we need.

Prayer: Lord God, I want to build my house on a rock. Help me to know that my solid foundation rests in You, with Your Word giving me wisdom and strength.

Hearing and obeying Jesus gives our lives a strong foundation.

Topic: Dealing with the Spirit of Pride and Arrogance [Seeds of Destiny 30 August 2018 Daily Devotional]

Scripture: Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall. Proverbs 16:18

Thought For The Day: Pride makes a man’s life to revolve around himself and to revolve around yourself is to be caged in a shelf.

Previously, we saw that pride makes a person to become a god to himself. Pride also makes a man’s life to revolve around himself and to revolve around yourself is to be caged in a shelf.
Therefore, a proud fellow cannot become anything remarkable in God’s Hands.

Now, how do you deal with pride?
i) Resist Pride vehemently
Pride is a spirit called a haughty spirit (Proverbs 16:18). Resist the lifestyle of pride. Command and curse the haughty spirit by saying, ‘You foul spirit of pride, you have no place in my life; you have no place in my lineage, get out haughty spirit!’ (Luke 10:19).

ii) Present yourself continuously before God
Present yourself to God permanently at the altar of consecration. Tell God, ‘I am nothing; there is nothing I am that You are not the reason. I recognise You, Lord, as the reason for my success in life.’ Present yourself to God continuously in submission and worship (Romans 12:1-2, 1 Corinthians 4:7).

iii) Always remember where you are coming from
Remembering where you are coming from is building a memorial altar of appreciation before God. The memorial altar is where you remember where you used to be and where you are currently. Always remember that you are nothing if not for God. You did not do anything differently or better than the people who are not yet at your level (1 Corinthians 15:9-10).

Beloved, decide to deal with the lifestyle of pride in order to fulfil destiny.

Remember this: Pride makes a man’s life to revolve around himself and to revolve around yourself is to be caged in a shelf.

Assignments:
1) Resist Pride vehemently
2) Present yourself continuously before God
3) Always remember where you are coming from

Prayer: O Lord, I receive Your grace to resist the lifestyle of pride and arrogance. I receive Your Help to present myself continuously on the altars of consecration and memorial, Lord, in Jesus’ Name.

Topic: Heart, Not Garment [DCLM Daily Manna 30 August 2018 Daily Devotional]

Text: Joel 2:12-17 (KJV)

Key Verse: “And rend your heart, and not your garments, and turn unto the LORD your God: for he is gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and of great kindness, and repenteth him of the evil” (Joel 2:13).

MESSAGE:

Professional mourning is one dying practice of the Mediterranean and near Eastern culture. Professional mourners are paid to weep at funerals – even for people who they never met or knew. It is taken as an art or occupation. This form of “art” may be normal in some cultures or art theatres, not in the economy of God.

When the Lord, through Prophet Joel, told Israel to rend their heart and not their garments, it was an allusion to the idea of professional or perfunctory mourning. Israel had a terrible moral and spiritual decline that attracted God’s judgment. Prophet Joel sounded the alarm and vividly outlined the impending dreadful calamity that dangled over their head. But he also showed them the only way to stem the evil tide. Wholehearted repentance with genuine fasting and prayer would do, not an outward religious show and activities.

God’s demand of righteousness and His impending judgment should challenge us to adopt Joel’s recommendation to rend our hearts, not our garments. We must turn to the Lord with a broken spirit. The outward expression of fasting and prayer without an inward brokenness will not do.

Today, there is so much of fasting and prayer (for material blessings) and rending of garments (pretences and showmanship). Yet, there is so much impunity. For God to save us from our predicament and coming judgment, a broken and contrite heart is necessary. Our prayers must be focused on God’s glory and honour. If our religious commitment cannot produce these, we are in danger.

Thought For The Day: Hardened heart can only produce barren result.

Topic: Respond To God’s Direction [Andrew Wommack 30 August 2018 Daily Devotional]

Luke 19:26 “For I say unto you, That unto every one which hath shall be given; and from him that hath not, even that he hath shall be taken away from him.”

What was it that this wicked servant didn’t have that caused his master to take back the money he had given him? It wasn’t the tangible money that he had been given. He had kept that laid up in a napkin and he still possessed it. What he was missing and what the other servant had that caused the lord to give this pound to him was faithfulness. Those who are faithful with what God has given them will be given more, and those who are wasteful will have what God has given them taken away and given to another.

Christians will one day stand before the Lord for the purpose of receiving rewards, and all our actions will be revealed, whether they were our own doings or directed by the Spirit of God. Those who were not governed by the Holy Spirit in their actions will see all their good works burned up in that day when we stand before the Lord and He tries our works. Those who acted only under the guidance of the Holy Spirit will find that their works will endure the test and they will receive a reward.

Many people choose to do good things thinking that God will be pleased. But our positive response to God’s direction (faith) is what pleases God (Heb. 11:6). We were created with a purpose and every individual has a God-given plan for his life. We need to let God work in and through us and faithfully fulfill what He has called us to do.

When H. G. Christ instilled the spirit of Christian love in His followers, so that they lived without malice and died without rancor. The love that Christ talked about can only be given to us by God. It is one of the fruits of the Spirit. When you come to Jesus Christ, He transforms you. Your past is forgiven. You receive a power to love men, beyond your natural ability to love.
