“The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” actress, Rachel Brosnahan, became involved with Covenant House – a non-profit organization that provides resources and shelter for homeless youth  – about six years ago and according to The Christian Post, this would not be Brosnahan’s last time getting involved. 

Brosnahan, who is now a member of Covenant House’s board of directors, along with several of her co-workers from the Broadway play called “The Big Knife,” took an interest in Covenant House several years ago and decided to create an event called “Broadway Sleep Out,” now called “Sleep Out: Stage and Screen.” 

Sleep outs are events that Covenant House hosts to raise awareness and money for child homelessness. During these events participants sleep outside for a night in an effort to show homeless youth that there are people who are committed to their future. Covenant House is an organization headquartered in New York city that provides shelter to homeless runaway and trafficked children. According to their website, “Covenant House has helped transform and save the lives of more than a million homeless, runaway and trafficked young people.” For over four decades the Christian organization has offered housing and support services to approximately 80,000 young people each year.

Early Tuesday evening, a magnitude 7.3 earthquake hit Venezuela near Caracas. 

According to NBC News, there have not been any “immediate reports of casualties or significant damage.”

The Trinidad Express, a Carribean newspaper, reports that power lines were knocked over, windows were broken and items fell from shelves, but there was little major damage due to the depth at which the earthquake occurred. The US Geological Survey (USGS) is saying that this earthquake was at an “intermediate depth,” meaning its focal depth was “between 70 and 300 km.” 

The earthquake is said to have been cause by an oblique reverse fault in the Caribbean Sea.

The USGS is saying that at the location of the earthquake “the South America plate moves westward with respect to the Caribbean plate at a rate of approximately 20 mm/yr.” 

According to the USGS intensity map, the earthquake could be felt as far west as Medellín and Bogota, Columbia and as far south as Boa Vista, Brazil. 

NBC News reports, the earthquake was register by the USGS at 5:31 p.m. EST. The quake was detected at about 12½ miles north-northwest of Yaguaraparo on the northeast tip of Venezuela near the Port of Spain. 

The USGS reports that this earthquake was the largest quake on record within 150 miles of land in the 20th and 21st centuries.

Category 4 Hurricane Lane is headed directly toward Hawaii. The storm, which started out as a Category 5, dropped down to a Cat 4 on Wednesday. Lane is predicted to hit the Big Island, making it the first landfalling hurricane in Hawaii in nearly thirty years.

According to USA Today, Lane is projected to turn north-northwest and hit the most populated areas of the state.

As of now, tracking showed that Lane was about 300 miles south of the Big Island’s Kona shore and is moving west-northwest at a rate of 9 mph. 

According to USA Today, National Weather Service meteorologist Melissa Dye reported, Lane’s rain has begun to show up on radars off the Big Island. Additionally, Dye reported that offshore buoys have started to detect high waves.

USA Today reported that Senior Meteorologist for Accuweather, Mike Doll, told them torrential rain, high winds and dangerous surf should be expected from Hurricane Lane, and it is predicted to arrive as early as Wednesday.

Doll said, “regardless of what happens in the eye of the hurricane, there’s going to be the potential for a lot of rain – 10-15 inches, perhaps even higher than that.”

Doll continued, “The problem with that, you get that much rain and you’re going to be seeing damage to property. It’s certainly going to be a threat to lives, as well, especially in areas that are prone to flooding.”

The Christian Post reported that The Master’s University and Seminary in Santa Clarita (TMUS), California has been placed on probation by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges’ Senior College and University Commission (WSCUC) – one of the region’s top educational accrediting agencies.

Last month, TMUS was sent a notice after the commission had several concerns with the school’s personnel and operational practices.

WSCUC looked into the reaccreditation of TMUS and released their findings in an accreditation report in March. The report cited several concerns about the institution. The commission stated, “we express concern that with the volume of personnel transitions that have taken place in the last 12-24 months, that the institution appears to have little continuity or institutional knowledge regarding accreditation standards and requirements.”

The commission garnered many concerns about the institution after a visit to the campus and several interviews with faculty, staff, board members, and students. The Christian Post reports, among their concerns were the lack of qualifications for staff members in leadership positions, “questionable independence of the TMUS board of trustees, operational integrity and a “climate of fear, intimidation, bullying” among faculty and staff.”

A Chip Gaines car seat photo has sparked loads of debate on social media. But the outrage has nothing to do with the car seat/stovetop combo. Instead, it’s the nearby pan of cornbread getting all the attention!Car seat safety is definitely no laughing matter. NEW YORK — Paula Scarlett-Brown, the widow of Pilgrim Assemblies International founder Archbishop Roy E. Brown, says she has been “traumatized” by the manner in which she was asked to leave the $2.5 million church-owned house her late husband once promised would be hers.

The widow broke her silence Tuesday for the first time since she was served a 10-day notice on Aug. 15 to vacate the $2.5 million home she shared with her late husband for more than two decades in Flatbush, Brooklyn. The house is owned by Pilgrim Baptist Church.

Speaking in an interview on “Larry Reid Live,” the soft-spoken Scarlett-Brown said while she doesn’t intend to fight the church for the house, she wasn’t happy with the way she was asked to leave via an eviction notice that was placed on the front door of her residence.

“I was shocked, I was disappointed, I was traumatized. I couldn’t believe it. I was like, what is this?” she told Reid about her initial reaction after finding the eviction notice stuck to the front door of the house.
