Memorise: I will call upon the LORD, who is worthy to be praised: so shall I be saved from mine enemies. Psalm 18:3

Read: Matthew 15:21-28 (KJV)

21 Then Jesus went thence, and departed into the coasts of Tyre and Sidon.

22 And, behold, a woman of Canaan came out of the same coasts, and cried unto him, saying, Have mercy on me, O Lord, thou Son of David; my daughter is grievously vexed with a devil.

23 But he answered her not a word. And his disciples came and besought him, saying, Send her away; for she crieth after us.

24 But he answered and said, I am not sent but unto the lost sheep of the house of Israel.

25 Then came she and worshipped him, saying, Lord, help me.

26 But he answered and said, It is not meet to take the children’s bread, and to cast it to dogs.

27 And she said, Truth, Lord: yet the dogs eat of the crumbs which fall from their masters’ table.

28 Then Jesus answered and said unto her, O woman, great is thy faith: be it unto thee even as thou wilt. And her daughter was made whole from that very hour.

Bible In One Year: 2 Chronicles 32-33, John 18:24-40

MESSAGE:

Many believers in the civilized world approach prayer time as gentlemen and ladies. If you are really in need, it will be evident in the urgency of your voice. In 2 Kings 6:5, when the borrowed axe head dropped into the river Jordan while the sons of the prophets were felling tree, the one from whose hand the axe head fell screamed: “Alas, Master! For it was borrowed.” This young man did not pretend at all.

Some cannot cry out for the fear of offending other people. Some will rather not pray intensely because they care what people will think of them. How do you call on God today? Is your call a ‘Hello’ or an ‘SOS’ call? If blind Bartimaeus had closed his mouthor had cared about what people said, he would have remained blind forever. Be desperate in your call today!

Action Point: Send an SOS (a distress call) to the Throne of Grace on that pressing issue today.

Hymn 16:

1. Christian, seek not yet repose,
Hear thy gracious Savior say;
Thou art in the midst of foes:
Watch and pray.

2. Principalities and power,
Mustering their unseen array,
Wait for the unguarded hours:
Watch and pray.

3. Gird the heavenly armor on,
Wear it ever night and day;
Ambushed lies the evil one:
Watch and pray.

4. Hear the victors who o’ercame,
Still they mark each warriors’s way;
All with one sweet voice exclaim,
Watch and pray.

5. Hear, above all, hear thy Lord,
Him thou lovest to obey;
Hide within thy heart His word:
Watch and pray.

6. Watch, as if on that alone
Hung the issue of the day;
Pray, that help may be sent down:
Watch and pray.

Group Warns Death Penalty is ‘Now Mandatory’ for All Who Blaspheme Against Islam in Mauritania – Urban Christian News

A missionary group that exposes Christian persecution has warned that new changes to Mauritania’s apostasy law means that the death penalty will now be an unavoidable punishment for all people who are found to have blasphemed against Islam, even if they repent.

Todd Nettleton of The Voice of the Martyrs told Mission Network News on Thursday that there is increasing worry among Christians in the African nation regarding the changes to the law made by the Mauritanian National Assembly on April 27, which removes the three-day window of opportunity for people to repent from blasphemy before they are punished.

“This new law sort of becomes more stringent — that three days to repent disappears. Everyone is going to be punished. Even if you do repent, you are still going to be punished. And in the case of blasphemous remarks or sacrilegious acts, according to the law, the death penalty is now mandatory,” Nettleton said.

“The other thing that was very fascinating to me is, in explaining this change in the law, the Minister of Defense said that ‘what we had before was actually in contradiction with official Sharia code, the official Sharia law. We want to be as close to the real Sharia law as possible, so we needed to eliminate that discrepancy between the two.’”

While there have not been reports yet of Christians being given a death sentence over blasphemy in the predominantly Muslim nation, groups have warned that the fear of a mandatory death penalty could provide further obstacles for those thinking about following Jesus.

“The government seeks to win favor of other…

Holocaust Survivor Gena Turgel, Consoler of Anne Frank, Dies at 95 – Urban Christian News

Gena Turgel, a Holocaust survivor who comforted Anne Frank at the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp before the young diarist’s death and the camp’s liberation a month later, has died. She was 95.

Turgel died Thursday, Britain’s chief rabbi, Ephraim Mirvis, said on Twitter. The news triggered tributes from some of the people the Polish native touched in the decades she shared her World War II experiences, including witnessing the horrors of the Nazi camps at Auschwitz, Buchenwald and Bergen-Belsen.

After World War II, Turgel married one of Bergen-Belsen’s British liberators, Norman Turgel, earning the nickname “The Bride of Belsen.” Her wedding dress, made from parachute silk, is part of the collection of the Imperial War Museum in London.

Turgel attended Britain’s annual Holocaust remembrance two months ago in a wheelchair with a blanket draped over her knees.

“My story is the story of one survivor, but it is also the story of 6 million who perished,” she said at the event in London’s Hyde Park. “Maybe that’s why I was spared — so my testimony would serve as a memorial like that candle that I light, for the men, women and children who have no voice.”

Born in Krakow, Poland as Gena Goldfinger on Feb. 1, 1923, Turgel had to move with her family in 1941 to a Jewish ghetto with only a sack of potatoes, some flour and a few belongings. One brother was shot by the Nazi SS police and another disappeared after trying to escape, according to the Holocaust Educational Trust in London.

A sister of hers was shot while trying to smuggle food into a labor camp. In…

Eritrean US Detainee Kills Himself at Egyptian Airport – Urban Christian News

An Eritrean national who was denied asylum in the United States and was being sent back to his homeland has died in an apparent suicide in a holding area at Cairo International Airport, airport officials said on Saturday.

Zeresenay Ermias Testfatsion was a detainee of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and was being held by Egyptian authorities at the airport, awaiting his return to Asmara, Eritrea, ICE said.

Testfatsion, 34, was found dead on Wednesday in a shower area and his remains were taken to a hospital, ICE said.

Airport officials, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to brief the media, said he was found hanging.

His remains will be transported to Eritrea, ICE said in a statement, adding that the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Office of Inspector General and the ICE Office of Professional Responsibility were notified.

Homeland Security and the Eritrean embassies in the U.S. and Egypt did not immediately respond to requests for comment on Saturday.

Testfatsion, whose last name is spelled Tesfatsion in court records, had been in ICE custody since February 2017 following his arrest at the Hidalgo, Texas, Port of Entry after he tried to unlawfully enter the United States, ICE said.

Court records show Testfatsion went to the U.S. seeking asylum “for fear of returning to his country.”

Testfatsion was ordered deported in October 2017, and after he wasn’t deported within 90 days he petitioned to be released, arguing he should not be forced to stay in detention indefinitely because the Eritrean Consulate hadn’t taken…

Open Heavens 10 June 2018 – Leadership: God’s Perspective

Topic — Leadership: God’s Perspective [Open Heavens 10th June 2018, Sunday Daily Devotional]

Memorise: And whosoever will be chief among you, let him be your servant: – Matthew 20:27

Read: 2 Samuel 23:1-5 (KJV)

1 Now these be the last words of David. David the son of Jesse said, and the man who was raised up on high, the anointed of the God of Jacob, and the sweet psalmist of Israel, said,

2 The Spirit of the LORD spake by me, and his word was in my tongue.

3 The God of Israel said, the Rock of Israel spake to me, He that ruleth over men must be just, ruling in the fear of God.

4 And he shall be as the light of the morning, when the sun riseth, even a morning without clouds; as the tender grass springing out of the earth by clear shining after rain.

5 Although my house be not so with God; yet he hath made with me an everlasting covenant, ordered in all things, and sure: for this is all my salvation, and all my desire, although he make it not to grow.

Bible in One Year: 2 Kings 3-4, Acts 8:26-40

MESSAGE:

The nature and purpose of leadership has been misunderstood by mankind from time immemorial, and this is the reason why people crave for leadership positions so much. Leadership, when viewed from the right perspective, can be very enslaving, because the fame and popularity that come along with it may take away your sleep and freedom. However, when God puts you in a leadership position, He will also give you the grace to conduct yourself appropriately to meet His expectations. God’s expectation of what leadership should be is explained by the Lord Jesus Christ in today’s memory verse. It is amazing that even the disciples did not understand God’s principles on leadership. This is evident in the fact that it was their agitation over who among them would occupy the highest position that led Jesus to explain what leadership really means.

From God’s perspective, leadership means to serve. It is no longer news that leadership in the Church today is out of tune with our Lord’s expectation of leaders being servants. Some leaders use their leadership position to oppress those under them. Proverbs 29:2 says:

“When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice: but when the wicked beareth rule, the people mourn.”

It is dangerous for a leader to oppress his or her subordinates because as they groan and cry unto God under such leaders, heaven will respond and the consequences that follow might be devastating. This has led to the destruction of several people who held leadership positions.

Frankly speaking, from God’s perspective, leadership is synonymous to servitude. It is servitude because a leader is expected to be under God’s absolute control, living a life of total submission that is enslaved to doing God’s will (Hebrews 10:7). A leader must lay aside personal freedom to take on the yoke of Jesus Christ (Matthew 11:29). As a leader, taking on the Lord’s yoke means you have relinquished control over the manner of your speech, the places you go to and the things you do. Our Lord Jesus Christ Himself had to do all these as our leader (John 5:19, John 8:28, John 12:49). In John 5:30, He said:

“I can of mine own self do nothing: as I hear, I judge: and my judgment is just; because I seek not mine own will, but the will of the Father which hath sent me.”

If you find yourself in a leadership position, you have to be careful of what you do with the privilege of leading God’s heritage, so that you will not be damned in the end (1 Peter 5:1-4).

Prayer Point: Father, thank You for the privilege of being a leader over Your people; please help me to lead Your people according to Your expectations.

Hymn 12: Take My Life, And Let It Be

1.Take my life and let it be
Consecrated, Lord, to Thee.
Take my moments and my days,
Let them flow in endless praise,
Let them flow in endless praise.

2.Take my hands and let them move
At the impulse of Thy love.
Take my feet and let them be
Swift and beautiful for Thee,
Swift and beautiful for Thee.

3.Take my voice and let me sing,
Always, only for my King.
Take my lips and let them be
Filled with messages from Thee,
Filled with messages from Thee.

4. Take my silver and my gold,
Not a mite would I withhold.
Take my intellect and use
Every pow’r as Thou shalt choose,
Every pow’r as Thou shalt choose.

5. Take my will and make it Thine,
It shall be no longer mine.
Take my heart, it is Thine own,
It shall be Thy royal throne,
It shall be Thy royal throne.

6. Take my love, my Lord, I pour
At Thy feet its treasure store.
Take myself and I will be
Ever, only, all for Thee,
Ever, only, all for Thee.

Shocking Moment Two Men With Knives Attack 16-Year-Old Boy and Schoolgirl in the Street – Urban Christian News

Schoolgirls brawled in the street with two knife-wielding teens as their friend lay bleeding from a stab wound to his torso.

Yards away friends and witnesses tried desperately to staunch the bleeding as the 16-year-old boy lay spread-eagled on the pavement in his school uniform.

The teenager is fighting for life in hospital while two men aged 18 and 19 were arrested for attempted murder.

Horrifying video shot from an upstairs flat shows the aftermath of the stabbing in Streatham Hill, south London, about 4.30pm on Friday.

A schoolgirl fought with one of the men, who held a knife in his hand, as a boy ran over to help from another part of the fight on Amesbury Avenue.

Another man in a blue shirt, also carrying a knife, managed to separate the combatants and then grappled with the girl until he friend pulled her away.

He then pushed the other man inside a nearby flat and then followed him inside as two school girls rushed over to confront him.

Seconds later he emerged and sat on the side of a garden wall maniacally tapping the huge knife against the wall.

Meanwhile, two people tried to perform first aid on the badly wounded boy as others called 999, including the woman shooting the footage from above.

Christians against Poverty founder gets CBE

John Kirkby created the Christian debt charity in 1996 which has served tens of thousands of individuals each year by helping those struggling with debt, unemployment and life controlling habits, equipping them to live well despite a low income.

Speaking to Premier, Kirkby said how he and his wife found out he would receive a CBE: “Believe it or not, I just got a letter and Lizzie was laughing at me. It says On Her Majesty’s Service on the letter and I thought, ‘have I filed my tax funds in properly – what possibly could it be?’

“And then we opened it and it’s just a very matter of fact letter and we just couldn’t believe it.”

A number of other people who work to serve the Church, communities and vulnerable people have also been recognised on the Honours List, which recognises the achievements of a wide range of extraordinary people across the United Kingdom.

Edward Hudson is the founder of Bibles for Children and will receive a British Empire Medal (BEM).

He told Premier what this means to him.

“It comes at a great honour but not just for me but for all those who’ve helped with the work of Bibles for Children over the…last 21 years,” he said.

“The trustees and associates that have been appointed, and many people up and down the country that we’ve never met of course, so it’s an honour for all of them I believe – not just for myself.”

Awards include:

So. Baptist Resolution Calls on Convention to Reject Gay Therapy Bans, Belief God Makes People Gay

(Photo: Reuters/Daniel Munoz)LGBT rights activists hold a rainbow flag in central Sydney in this file photo from August 11, 2012.

A resolution submitted to the Southern Baptist Convention for its annual meeting in Dallas, Texas, has called on the nation’s largest Protestant denomination to reject “homosexual identity politics” and state bans on conversion therapy.

Titled “On Ministry and Counseling to Lead People from Homosexuality to Heterosexuality,” the resolution, among other things, asks the SBC to “offer loving assistance to people suffering from same-sex attraction, so that they may turn from homosexuality to heterosexuality” and to reject “as heresy any claims that God makes people homosexual.”

“… the movement against so-called ‘conversion therapy’ poses an immediate threat to Christian obedience to the Gospel of Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ because it is possible that due to lack of support from Christian ministries, some people with same-sex attractions may err in defining themselves as ‘homosexual’ by nature, and may thereby invite a fatal sin into their hearts,” states the resolution submitted by Robert O. Lopez, a professor at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Ft. Worth, Texas.

Same-sex couples cannot have children baptised in Presbyterian Church in Ireland

It adopted the new policy at an annual meeting in Belfast on Friday.

The measure will not prevent anyone from attending worship, coming into church, receiving communion, or having access to pastoral care, a spokesman said.

He added: “On many issues the Church provides guidance to our ministers and elders in Kirk sessions and we wanted to consider what a credible profession of faith means for same-sex couples who want to become communicant members of the Church.

“The same principle also applies to everyone, regardless of background or circumstance and those who want to baptise their children.”

Earlier in the week, the church voted to loosen its ties with the Church of Scotland because of its more liberal attitude towards same-sex relationships.

The head of the Church of Scotland (moderator) will no longer be invited to the annual meeting of the Presbyterian General Assembly in Belfast.

Last month the Church of Scotland took a step towards allowing ministers to conduct same-sex marriages.

Its General Assembly asked a committee to draft church law on the issue.

The Church of Scotland is considered the mother church of the Presbyterian Church of Ireland.

Presbyterians in Ireland have also agreed their moderator, the Rev Dr Charles McMullen, should meet Pope Francis when he visits Dublin in August.

The Presbyterian Church in Ireland is the largest…

One Thing Two-Thirds of Parents Will Bring Their Kids to Church For — Eric Geiger

What church activity or program or event grabs the attention of parents who go to church and those who don’t? If you had to make a list of what a kids ministry and church could offer the community that resonates with parents from all types of backgrounds, what would make the top of the list? There are not many activities hosted by a church that parents of all backgrounds share a mutual respect and trust for, but VBS is one of them. LifeWay Research recently released their findings of an extensive study done on Vacation Bible School. And there are some fascinating data points:

4 Sacred Cows Haunting Churches—And How to Corral Them — Facts & Trends

Now in my 40s, I realize I have (Lord willing) many years of ministry ahead. But that also means I’ve become acquainted with commonplace “sacred cows”—idols that have become so ingrained in the culture of a congregation, many can’t remember why they exist or make the case to continue them. I can identify and describe a few of these sacred cows. But I can also offer some ways to wisely relocate these “cows”— by either moving them to their proper place or moving them out altogether.

5 Essentials for Effective Ministry in Any (Especially Difficult) LocationsChris Hefner
