(Photo: Focused Light)Tom Fred Tenney died on Friday June 1, 2018. He was 84.

Tom Fred Tenney, a longtime leader in the United Pentecostal Church International who is credited with increasing the denomination’s missionary work and doling out pithy one-liners on how to live right on social media, died peacefully on Friday. He was 84.

“Tom Fred Tenney, friend to all and longtime UPCI minister, statesman, leader, executive, and General Board member, passed from this life on June 1, 2018. Please keep the Tenney family and especially Sister Thetus Tenney in prayer as we mourn the loss of this great man of God,” the organization announced

In a statement to the Associated Press on Saturday, UPCI’s general superintendent, David K. Bernard, called Tenney an innovator in the mission field.

“He was an innovator. He introduced many new plans and ideas, one being the concept of partners in missions, whereby individual churches would sponsor missionaries around the world. That created a tremendous increase in giving and a tremendous increase in world missions,” Bernard said.

Presbyterian Church (USA) has continued its years-long decline in numbers, losing nearly 5 percent of its membership in 2017, according to recently released official statistics.

Statistics released by the PCUSA Office of the General Assembly found that the mainline denomination had approximately 1.415 million members in 2017 compared to 1.482 million members in 2016, or a loss of over 67,000 members.

Americans’ View of Retirement Is ‘Warped,’ We Need Godly Financial Planners

(Screenshot: DesiringGod)Theologian John Piper explains what it means to give Caesar what belongs to Caesar and to God what belongs to God.

The key to managing money as a Christian is realizing that none of it is really yours — that God owns it all, says theologian John Piper.

Christian financial planners ought to think differently from the “warped” American view of retirement, he explained in a Monday episode of Ask Pastor John on Desiring God, where he answered a question from a man who was considering becoming a financial adviser.

The man, who said he was put off by ungodly perspectives about retirement in society enough to give him second thoughts about entering the profession, inquired if a Christian can, with a clear conscience, help people plan for a typical American retirement.

Piper answered that he believes strongly in good financial planning, referencing the words of a financial planner who summed up his 30-year career in that field with one sentence: “God owns it all.”

“In other words, it’s not yours. Your money is not yours — period,” Piper said.

“Which puts you in a very, very precarious position. It’s God’s, and you got it in your bank and your pocket. Watch out. You might become a thief or a mismanager. God has given you the ability to obtain it, to…

Open Heavens 6 June 2018 – Something More Than Gold

Topic: Something More Than Gold [Open Heavens 6th June 2018, Wednesday Daily Devotional]

Memorise: Then Peter said, Silver and gold have I none; but such as I have give I thee: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth rise up and walk.Acts 3:6

Read: Acts 1:3-8 (KJV)

3 To whom also he shewed himself alive after his passion by many infallible proofs, being seen of them forty days, and speaking of the things pertaining to the kingdom of God:

4 And, being assembled together with them, commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, which, saith he, ye have heard of me.

5 For John truly baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence.

6 When they therefore were come together, they asked of him, saying, Lord, wilt thou at this time restore again the kingdom to Israel?

7 And he said unto them, It is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father hath put in his own power.

8 But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.

Bible in One Year: 1 Kings 20, Acts 6:1-7:3-22

MESSAGE:

In Matthew 13:45, our Lord Jesus Christ likened the kingdom of heaven to precious pearl which a merchant sought. On finding just one of great value, he went and sold all that he had to buy it. In other words, there are some things worth more than gold, which every wise man or woman must go after. In addition to the kingdom of God, the anointing of the Holy Spirit is another of such things. I have on several occasions encouraged our ministers to seek the anointing more than any material thing. Today’s memory verse confirms the prime value of the anointing over any material thing in the life of a believer, particularly ministers of God. Although the early Church leaders did not have much in terms of material possessions, they were rich in the anointing of the Holy Ghost. One ordinary day, Peter and John were going into the temple for prayers when they saw a man who had been lame from his mother’s womb begging them for alms. The lame man was used to receiving alms, but Peter and John had nothing to give except the anointing. This anointing caused the lame man to rise up and walk. What Peter and John had was more than gold.

In the Bible text, we read about the promise Jesus Christ made to his disciples concerning the Holy Spirit, who is the Giver of the anointing. Jesus told His disciples that they must wait for the coming of the Holy Spirit before they could begin to exercise the authority in the Great Commission. For you to receive the anointing, you must learn to wait upon the Lord. It is worth waiting for because after the Holy Ghost anointing has come upon you, you will begin to effortlessly do exploits for God just as Peter was doing after he was baptized in the Holy Ghost.

Beloved, it is wisdom to prefer the Holy Ghost anointing to material things because at the end of the day, the anointing will attract those things that men run after to you. A classic example of a wise servant of God was Elisha, who demanded the double portion of his master’s anointing. It is rather unfortunate that the man who should have inherited the anointing of Elisha chose to inherit material things from an ex-leper. Alas, he inherited leprosy long with the material things he coveted (2 Kings 5:26-27). May that not be your story in Jesus’ Name. To receive the anointing, you must believe in the Name of Jesus Christ and live according to His standards. Develop a relationship with the Giver of the anointing by making Him your friend, and He will readily release His power to you.

Prayer Point: Father, the anointing of the Holy Spirit is more than enough for me; please release it to me today.

Hymn 15: Nearer My God To Thee

Nearer, my God, to Thee, nearer to Thee!
E’en though it be a cross that raiseth me,
Still all my song shall be, nearer, my God, to Thee. Nearer to Thee!

Though like the wanderer, the sun gone down,
Darkness comes over me, my rest a stone;
Yet in my dreams I’d be nearer, my God, to Thee. Nearer to Thee!

There let me see the sight, an open Heaven;
All that Thou sendest me, in mercy given;
Angels to beckon me nearer, my God, to Thee. Nearer to Thee!

Then, with my waking thoughts bright with Thy praise,
Out of my stony griefs Bethel I’ll raise;
So by my woes to be nearer, my God, to Thee. Nearer to Thee!

Christian campaigner slams MPs over NI abortion intervention

The Commons held an emergency debate on Tuesday on termination laws, with Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn insisting Parliament had a responsibility to respect human rights standards.

The Government has faced intense cross-party calls to liberalise Northern Ireland’s abortion laws following the landslide pro-choice referendum victory in the Irish Republic less than two weeks ago.

Peter Williams, Christian and chief executive of Right to Life, told Premier politicians calling for Northern Ireland to overturn its abortion ban are out of line.

“It does concern me mainly because of the anti-democratic nature of the proposal,” he told Premier’s News Hour.

“That English MPs, Welsh MPs and Scottish MPs would be voting to impose permissive abortion legislation on Northern Ireland, which is a place that has decided for a very long time to have much more restrictive laws and much better right to life protections for unborn children, is disgraceful.”

In the emergency meeting, DUP leader Arlene Foster said that abortion is a devolved matter and should only be dealt with by the Northern Ireland Assembly, which is currently suspended.

Mr Corbyn said: “I would say very politely to Arlene Foster, you were elected to the Northern Ireland Assembly, maybe you should play your part in ensuring that Assembly functions and we get a devolved administration working in Northern Ireland.

“In the…

Deputy Says God Helped Him Save 3-Y-O Girl From Burning Building

(Screenshot: YouTube)Deputy Cody Downs, 26, of the Jasper County Sheriffs Office in Texas.

Cody Downs, a Jasper County Sheriff’s Deputy in Texas who ran into a burning house to save a 3-year-old girl who was trapped inside, is thanking God for helping him and the toddler escape the fire alive.

“God put me where I was supposed to be,” Downs told News 4 San Antonio.

The 26-year-old deputy was situated not far from a house on FM 3414, 1 mile north of Highway 63 West, when he received a call about the house fire where the 3-year-old girl was trapped inside at about 11 p.m., Saturday night, according to 12 News.

Two other children who were inside the home escaped but were unable to reach the 3-year-old, Sheriff Mitchel Newman and Child Protective Services told News 4. A 5-year-old who was staying with his grandmother next door to the house that caught fire first told her about the fire. The grandmother then alerted authorities.

“By the grace of God I happened to be in the area when the call dropped,” Downs explained to News 12. “It was one of the scariest things I’ve been on because I didn’t know if the child was breathing or not.”

Downs said when he arrived on the scene of the fire the only thing he could think about was making sure he didn’t stop trying to save the girl.

“You can’t give up,” he said he told himself. “You have to keep fighting until you get this baby out. She is your No. 1 priority. Get her out and then we will deal with whatever you got going on later.”

Jesse Duplantis Says He Didn’t Ask Followers to Pay for $54M Jet, but ‘Believe’ It Into Existence

(Screenshot: jdm.org)Louisiana televangelist Jesse Duplantis

Televangelist Jesse Duplantis is now saying that he never asked followers to donate toward a $54 million jet, but instead called on them to join him in believing that God would provide him with the new aircraft.

Duplantis, the founder of Jesse Duplantis Ministries in Louisiana, received much backlash after it was widely reported last week that he’s seeking donations toward a new Dassault Falcon 7X during his “This Week with Jesse” program.

Even though the prosperity preacher already owns three planes, he said that he’s been “burning them up for the Lord” and that the Falcon 7X would allow him to get to places nonstop.

In a new four-minute video posted the ministry’s website, Duplantis attempts to clarify his earlier remarks where he claimed that God told him to believe that He would provide a Falcon 7X and that he would not have to pay for…

Christian pensioner raises almost £50k for charity by busking

David Stokes has been spending six days of the week using his voice to raise money for good causes.

Charities he has raised money for include St Oswald’s, Salvation Army, Gateshead Foodbank and Premier Christian Radio.

He told Premier News Hour the idea came from his friends at church.

“It really started at church. Everyone at church was saying I was a good singer,” he said.

“So I went out with a guitar to go busking.  I told my mother I’m going busking, she says ‘no you’re not it’s begging’, she says ‘well it’s not so bad if do it for charity’, so I’ve just done it for charity ever since.

Stokes said he spends three to five hours a day singing his favourite Elvis Presley songs.  He rotates between train stations and Gateshead town centre and makes between £30 and £60 a day.

He said the most he’s made in a week was £600 during the Christmas period.

Stokes takes £100 out each month to help with his expenses, but donates the rest.

The 76-year-old, whose battled cancer and other major health issues, says he doesn’t have a goal of how much he wants to raise for charity but will continue fundraising for a little while longer.

“I just love singing and I’m on my own so it gets me out the house and gives me something to do,” he said.

Christian Leaders Praise Supreme Court’s Ruling in Favor of Colorado Baker

Christian Leaders Praise Supreme Court’s Ruling in Favor of Colorado Baker

Christian leaders are voicing their support after the Supreme Court ruled this week in favor of a Colorado baker who refused to bake a wedding cake for a same sex couple.

The ruling was 7-2 in favor of baker Jack Phillips. In 2012, Phillips refused to bake a cake for David Mullins and Charlie Craig. The couple wanted a cake to celebrate their wedding, which was set to take place in another state.

Phillips said he couldn’t bake the cake for the couple because of his religious beliefs.

In the ruling, Justice Anthony Kennedy wrote that the Colorado Civil Rights Commission, which followed up on a complaint filed by the couple, showed hostility toward Phillips.

Christian evangelist Franklin Graham said the decision was an “answer to prayers.”

“We thank God for answered prayer! Today the Supreme Court has ruled in favor of Jack Phillips, the Colorado baker who refused to create a wedding cake for a same-sex marriage ceremony. This is a huge win for religious freedom!”

Said Russell Moore, of the president of the Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission of the Southern Baptist Convention:“The Supreme Court is right: the state should not compel people to use their artistic gifts for speech that goes against their deepest-held convictions,” he tweeted.

Sutherland Institute’s Bill Duncan, director for The Center for Family and Society, said he
