Arrested for Praying, Released Detainee Now Prays about Next Steps


In May of 2017, Kim Hak Song was on a train on his way back to Dandong, China, the border city where he’d entered North Korea some weeks before, when members of the North Korean security service approached him.


The government agents accused him of hostile acts toward North Korea, and said they had evidence against him. It would be easiest if he simple confessed.


“I was thinking, I don’t know what I did wrong,” Kim said through a translator last week (June 2) at his home church, the Oriental Mission Church in East Hollywood, after a service there. In his first extended public comments since being released from a North Korean prison May 9 Kim preached and gave testimony about his detention.


When he asked his captors what hostile acts he reportedly committed against North Korea, he was told his crime was prayer.


Prayer, he thought, was normal. The North Korean government, he said, did not.


Like Tony Kim, another of the American detainees released last month, Kim Hak Song had been working at Pyongyang University of Science and Technology, a school founded by evangelical Christians and attended by elite North Koreans.


Born in China to Korean parents, Kim Hak Song came to the United States in the mid-1990s, got his citizenship and attended seminary. It was while studying, he said, that he had developed an interest in North Koreans’ plight. After his ordination…

100-year-old woman mugged on the way to church dies

Zofija Kaczan suffered multiple injuries in the attack on 28th May 28 died in the early hours of Wednesday morning, Derbyshire Police said.

She also suffered bruising to her face when she was approached from behind, knocked over and had her green handbag snatched at 8.45am close to the junction of St Chads Road and Empress Road in Normanton, Derby.

 

She was also left with a fractured cheekbone but managed to stumble into St Maksymilian Kolbe Polish Church, still clutching one of the bag’s straps.

The bag, which is made of fake leather and has gold clasps, was found at the junction of Moore Street and Normanton Road.

A 39-year-old man who was arrested in connection with the incident has since been released under investigation, the force confirmed.

Detective Chief Inspector Darren De’ath, who is leading the investigation, said: “This crime is absolutely horrific.

“Mrs Kaczan was a well-loved member of the community and that she was targeted in this way is disgusting.

“There are people in Derby who know the person responsible for this crime and I would urge them to come forward with any information that can help bring those responsible to justice.”

Nun tells inquiry she beat and force-fed children at orphanages

The 77-year-old, who cannot be identified, apologised to those she “mistreated” at Nazareth House homes in Aberdeen and Lasswade, Midlothian, while giving evidence to the Scottish Child Abuse Inquiry.

She worked at the Catholic-run orphanages from 1963 until 1980 and said she could lose her temper “on some occasions”, but denied a litany of other allegations made against her.

 

Colin MacAulay, senior counsel, said: “(One accusation says) you did punch her on the head and body, and strike her with a hair brush. Do you accept that you did that?”

The nun said: “Yes.”

Mr MacAulay added: “Do you accept then that you did seize hold of her by her hair and drag her around the corridor?

She said: “Yes.”

The same replies came when Mr MacAulay asked if she had ever force-fed a child or pushed a girl to the ground from a swing.

Her admissions were in relation to two children in separate homes.

It was heard a child was forced to eat dolly mixtures as a punishment after sweets had gone missing.

The nun said: “I always had dolly mixtures for the little ones. I went to get them and they were missing.

“I just had a few, there wasn’t enough. I said ‘you might as well take the rest’ and put them into her mouth.”

When asked why others had come forward with accusations, which she denied, the nun broke down in tears and said “I don’t know”.

Pastor killed by crocodile while baptizing

Kate Spade, famous for her handbag line and other fashion designs, was found dead in her New York City apartment yesterday from an apparent suicide. She suffered from depression, according to her sister. She is survived by her husband, Andy, who is the brother of comedian David Spade, and their daughter, Frances.

In other news, a man who killed himself when confronted by police on Monday has now been linked to six victims. Among them was renowned psychiatrist Dr. Steven Pitt, who became famous for his role in investigating the death of JonBenet Ramsey in 1996.

Meanwhile, a pastor who made no headlines by his life has made global news by his death.

Last Sunday, Pastor Docho Eshete was baptizing at Lake Abaya in southern Ethiopia. He had baptized the first person when, according to a local resident, “a crocodile jumped out of the lake and grabbed the pastor.”

Despite efforts from the congregation, fishermen, and residents, Pastor Eshete died from injuries to his back, legs, and hands. The crocodile escaped as the group used fishing nets to keep it from taking the pastor’s lifeless body.

Celebrity is obviously less powerful than mortality, as the deaths of Kate Spade and Dr. Pitt illustrate. But we might think that faithful obedience to the call of Christ should insulate us in some ways from this fallen world.

It is hard to imagine anything more sacred than baptizing people into the body of Christ. It is also hard to imagine anything more horrific than being killed by a crocodile.

“I have overcome the world”

Over 900,000 Christians were martyred for their faith over the last decade. If 151,600 people die every day, and 31 percent of the world is Christian, this equates to 46,996 Christian deaths each day.

Archbishop Justin Welby criticised over praise for EU

Speaking during a visit to church leaders in Serbia – a country currently applying for EU membership – Rt Rev Justin Welby also claimed the bloc had improved life for poorer families.

Alluding to the overthrow of Emperor Romulus in the 5th century, he said: “The EU has been the greatest dream realised for human beings since the fall of the Western Roman Empire.

 

“It has brought peace, prosperity, compassion for the poor and weak, purpose for the aspirational and hope for all its people.

He prompted a backlash from Eurosceptic figures, including former leader of UKIP Nigel Farage who branded the remarks “delusional”.

David Jones MP, formerly of the Department for Exiting the European Union was quoted by The Times as saying the comments show how the Church of England (CofE) is “out of touch” with popular thinking.

He was despised and rejected and forsaken by men, a Man of sorrows and pains, and acquainted with grief and sickness…. — Isaiah 53:3 (AMPC)

We will never enjoy life unless we make a quality decision to do so. Satan is an expert at stealing and our joy is one of his favorite targets. Nehemiah 8:10 tells us that the joy of the Lord is our strength. In John 10:10 we are told that “the thief ” comes to kill, steal, and destroy, but that Jesus came that we might have and enjoy life. Satan is the thief, and one of the things he seeks to steal is our joy. If he can steal our joy from us, we will be weak; and when we are weak, the enemy takes advantage of us.

Weak believers are no threat to him and his work of destruction. In order to live as God intends for us to live, the first thing we must do is truly believe that it is God’s will for us to experience continual joy. Then we must decide to enter into that joy.

Experiencing enjoyment in our souls is vitally important to our physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual health. Proverbs 17:22 (AMPC) says, A happy heart is good medicine and a cheerful mind works healing, but a broken spirit dries up the bones. It is God’s will for us to enjoy life! Now it is time to decide to enter into the full and abundant life that God wills for us.

Joy and enjoyment are available just as misery is available. Righteousness and peace are available and so are condemnation and turmoil. There are blessings and curses available, and that is why Deuteronomy 30:19 tells us to choose life and blessings.

Prayer Starter: Father, help me to enjoy this day to the fullest—help me to “choose life” and make the most of what You have given me. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Topic: The Power Of God’s Love

Eph. 3:17-19 -That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love, 18 May be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height; 19 And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fullness of God.

When you are rooted and grounded in the love of God, you become a grand commander over the affairs of life; the result and effect you will have will surpass all the knowledge of man because you will be filled with the fullness of God.

When the love of God burns in your life, it puts you above all the situations and circumstances of life. When God occupies the centre of your life, you have central command over the issues of life.

1Cor. 2:9-10 -But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him. 10 But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God.

The impact of the love of God cannot be scientifically analyzed.

In Matt. 22:36-40, a young ruler asked Jesus about the greatest commandment of the law and Jesus responded that it is love for God and humanity.

Matt. 22:37-40 -Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. 38 This is the first and great commandment. 39 And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. 40 On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.

The love of God in your heart is the fulfilling of the law.

Rom.13:8,10 – Owe no man anything, but to love one another: for he that loveth another hath fulfilled the law. Love worketh no ill to his neighbour: therefore love is the fulfilling of the law.

When the law is fulfilled, supernatural breakthroughs become the proof. When you fulfil the law, you commit God to your unlimited breakthrough and love is the fulfilling of the law. Therefore, when the law is fulfilled, Deut.28:1-14 comes to play in your life because fulfilling the law is your entrance to those blessings.

That is how powerful the mystery of the love of God in a man’s life can be. Until you discover the love of God, you have not discovered the secret of fulfillment. As you discover and the engage in the love of God, you will be ushered into a world of fulfillment of promises.

TOPIC: Who Is Your Friend? (Mountain of Fire and Miracle Ministries Wednesday, 6 June 2018)

FIRE SCRIPTURE: 1 Samuel 18:1-4

MEMORY VERSE: “A friend loveth at all times, and a brother is born for adversity.” – Proverbs 17:17

The MESSAGE:

Friendship can be said to be a relationship between two people that really care about each other. A very good friend is the first person you call when there is good news and also the first person to alert when there is danger. Ecclesiastes 4:9-11 paints a good picture of the benefits inherent in friendship. It says, “Two are better than one; because they have a good reward for their labour. For if they fall, the one will lift up his fellow: but woe to him that is alone when he falleth; for he hath not another to help him up. Again, if two lie together, then they have heat: but how can one be warm alone?”

David had two conspicuous friends, one at the beginning of his fame whose name was Jonathan, a warrior, the son and heir apparent to the first king of Israel. The Bible makes us to understand that, the soul of Jonathan was knitted to the soul of David. Hence, he tried as much as possible to protect David and was not envious. Unfortunately, Jonathan died. Your heaven sent friend will not die suddenly, in Jesus’ name.

David also had another friend who was a counsellor. He spoke like an oracle, his counsel seemingly stood valid like those from the mind of God and his name was Ahithophel. David believed Ahithophel to be faithful and upright. He later realised that he had an enemy for a friend. 2 Samuel 15:12 reads thus, “And Absalom sent for Ahithophel the Gilonite, David’s counsellor, from his city, even from Giloh, while he offered sacrifices. And the conspiracy was strong; for the people increased continually with Absalom.” Ahithophel, David’s supposed friend, soon allied himself with the King’s son to take away the throne from him. Any conspiracy of your enemy with a so-called friend of yours shall scatter, in the name of Jesus.

Who is your friend? Is he/she ready to put up with you while you’re around or is he ready to become the enemy when you are not there? If your friends are like leaves on a tree that have to be shed off because they’ve over stayed their use, shed them off. These types of friends are there to take whatever they need and as soon as it gets cold or the wind blows in your life, they are gone.

Some friends could also be likened to branches of a tree; they are a little bit better than the first set because as a branch, they are stronger than the leaves. But you still need to exercise care with them as they can ditch you in heavy tide, when their help is really paramount. Some friends are like the root of a tree. They are available at all times: during harsh periods and pleasant ones. During awful storms, they are present to uphold you. You can only find such a friend in Christ. No matter who your friends are on earth, they can still disappoint you. The very best of man can still be found wanting. The only friend that you can trust and depend on at all times is Jesus Christ. I counsel you to seek Jesus today. In Him you can find a faithful, dependable and reliable friend that your soul desires. However, there is no other friend like Jesus, develop your intimate relationship with Him and it shall be well with you.

MOTIVATIONAL QUOTE:
There is no friend greater than He who laid down His life for His friend.

PROPHETIC WORD:
Every unfriendly friend in your life shall be separated from you by fire.

PRAYER POINTS:

MORNING
1. O Lord my Father, separate me from unfriendly friends, in the name of Jesus.
2. Unfriendly friends shall not prosper in my life, in the name of Jesus.
3. Envious friends, be separated from me by fire, in the name of Jesus.

EVENING
4. Every soul tie with demonic friends, break, in the name of Jesus.
5. O Lord, I ask for wisdom and knowledge to choose heaven-bound friends, in the name of Jesus.
6. Mark of rejection in my life, be wiped off by the blood of Jesus, in the name of Jesus.
7. I excel ten times, like Daniel, above unfriendly friends, in the name of Jesus.
